At PlayStation, we love hearing the great feedback we get from our passionate community of gamers. That’s why I’m excited to announce that our highly-anticipated system software update for PlayStation 4 (v1.70) will be released tomorrow, with a huge number of your demanded features, and expanding upon what we believe is the most socially connected console experience. One feature that I’m most excited about is SHAREfactory, our new rich video editing app. In addition, we’re launching updates for PlayStation Vita (v3.15) and PlayStation App (v1.70) that will deliver greater integration with your PS4 system.
Here’s a rundown of what you can expect with tomorrow’s software updates:
PlayStation 4 v1.70 Update
- SHAREfactory: After you update your PS4 to v1.70, an icon to download our free SHAREfactory app will appear on your PS4 system’s home screen once it’s available. Once installed, SHAREfactory allows you to easily customize your gameplay videos with special effects, video commentary with picture-in-picture capability through PlayStation Camera, and custom soundtracks using the included audio tracks or your original music imported from a USB drive. You can then share your videos on Facebook or export them to an external USB storage device. The app is packed with plenty of cool, but accessible, tools. It’s simple enough to use for beginning editors, while functioning as a rich video editor for those with more creative aspirations. Check out our new SHAREfactory video that provides a walkthrough of what you can expect:
- Automatic Pre-download: No more waiting until after a game is released to start downloading select pre-ordered games from PlayStation Store. This new feature allows you to get to your games faster by automatically downloading select pre-ordered games up to several days in advance of the release, so that it’s ready to play as soon as the game is released on launch day. There’s also a countdown timer prior to the release of the game so you’ll know how soon your game will be available for you to start playing.
- Option to Disable HDCP for Games: This highly requested feature will allow you to have the option to turn off HDCP for games so you can capture longer gameplay sessions directly from your HDMI output and export them elsewhere.
- USB Export Option for Captured Gameplay: It’s now even easier to show off your heroic gaming moments and the SHAREfactory videos you create with the world using this feature to export your videos and screenshots to a USB drive. Just click on the DUALSHOCK 4 SHARE button, save your gameplay on a USB drive, and then share your proudest achievements on other social networks and other video platforms.
- Live Broadcasting in HD and Archiving Support: We’ve increased the resolution for live broadcasts so you and your friends can watch games livestreamed in 720p HD. You can also archive your broadcasts on Twitch or Ustream and watch them again later.
- New SHARE Options: We’ve got a number of new SHARE settings that will give you better control of what you want to share with your friends. Here is what you can look forward to:
- Change the default gameplay recording time in the SHARE menu under Video Clip Settings.
- Save only the video clips and screenshots you want by selecting Upload Screenshots or Upload Video Clips for each capture. Also upload video clips and screenshots during your live gameplay broadcasts.
- Select specific Facebook audiences to share each video or screenshot with.
- New DUALSHOCK 4 Options: New light bar settings have been added for DUALSHOCK 4, allowing you to change it to Bright, Medium or Dim in the Settings menu. The touchpad has also been updated, allowing you to navigate the on-screen keyboard using the DUALSHOCK 4 touchpad.
- New Friends Options: It’s now easier to find Friends and send requests with the ability to search Friends-of-Friends, view Mutual Friends on another user’s profile, and accept Friend requests directly from the Friends list.
- New Trophies Sort Option: You can now sort Trophies by rarity in the Options menu.
- PlayStation Store Payment Support: Similar to PS3, we’re introducing Alternative Payment Methods (APMs) for PS4 for content purchased on PS Store, starting with PayPal support.
- More PlayStation Camera Commands: More voice commands are added to PlayStation Camera, allowing you to launch the apps installed on your PS4 with the sound of your voice.
- New PlayStation Plus Icon: For Plus members, you’ll now have the PS Plus icon appear next to your SEN ID on the login screen, home screen and other areas across the PS4 system’s sleek user interface.
- Music Unlimited SHARE Options: With a Music Unlimited subscription, you can easily share your favorite songs with your friends by pressing the SHARE button on your DUALSHOCK 4.
PlayStation Vita v3.15 Update
- PS4 Link Update for Remote Play: Linking your PS4 and PS Vita together will now be easier with the 3.15 update for PS Vita. It’ll enable Automatic Device Registration, which will automatically detect and pair both systems when they’re both online and the same user is signed in to both devices. This makes it even quicker for you to get started on Remote Play or access other second screen features.
PlayStation App v1.70 Update
- Push Notifications, Friend Requests and More: This new PlayStation app update will give you the option to receive Push Notifications for select PS4 updates you want to receive, such as gameplay Invitations, Game Alerts or Friend Requests. You can also receive Friend Requests via email or text messages with the app update. Also, it’s now easier to change your profile picture right from your mobile device by uploading an image from your photo library, or taking a photo using your in-device camera.

When did we cross the bridge of gaming console (“about the games”) to social sharing console (“share everything!)? 80% of this update is about improvements to sharing… I do enjoy the live streams, for about 5 minutes… but I could care less about streaming or sharing any gameplay to my multitudes of Fake, Real, High School, Acquaintances, Co-workers, Family friends/followers on any social medium. If not for the current over sharing that exists in these platforms, this update will likely seal the deal for me as my wall gets bombarded with gameplay videos. In this case, I see many Facebook accounts closing.
While, I’m glad they are updating anything at all, instead of prioritizing the most popular requests, like a better dashboard, friend notifications, easy access to trophies as they occur, and many more; you know, easier life things (that improve the user experience), we get thrown an update about sharing content because, corporations….
No one is blind to the use of social media as a marketing tool to promote consumer behavior, and nothing more than video captures humans attention on the internet. But at what point do we realize that after a while, it’s just noise? The guy in front of the whiteboard who shuffled sharing to the top? Fire him. Here we go, another suit hoping to capture what’s hip and cool. Yet, Sony is now walking in the same line as Microsoft, telling us what they think we need. And failing, hard.
I just want a system that works, a system that is easy, where I can find my media and play it, from anywhere at anytime. Where I can communicate with my friends with ease, and see achievements as they occur and why they occurred. There’s nothing wrong with the PS4, it just needs to be easier to use and friendly to other devices. You guys are getting the gaming right, the indie partnership is huge, but don’t fall for the silly rabbit, tricks are for kids.
Best update yet; the PS4 keeps getting better with the new features and tweaks that you make.
I like that now we can report pictures and broadcasts because it seems that some people have misunderstood what the use of broadcasting on PS4 was made for – we want to see broadcasted GAMES not a guy and a girl laying in a bed or any sexual content!
I am confused as to why we still can’t see who has come online – I would think that is more important than me knowing who has joined a party (although I do like that new feature).
A few features to consider (some might echo what other users have asked for):
– Get a notification when a friend comes online/goes offline.
– Navigate the home interface (Games, messages, notifications, ps store etc.) using the touchpad.
– The ability to rent games would be really nice. I am not interested in buying or renting games from stores; I’d like to keep it all digital.
– Create folders to organize games (Whether automatic or manual).
I’m sure you can think of many other great features to add.
PLEASE! For the next update, allow us to import our own music and listen to it in-game! That is literally the number 1 feature i have been dying for! But i also love all of the new features in this update! Good job Sony! Keep it up! :DD
Would love to see a way to quickly glance at the trophy I just earned instead of having to go back to the menu and to my trophies and wait for it to sync
The ability to sort trophy list alphabetically like with the PS3 would be nice.

Would it be possible to allow the Vita to be used as a normal controller in a future update? Currently, there’s a workaround that involves remote play, but it’d be nice to be able to use multiple Vitas as controllers.
When They Bring the Ps3 Music and Video players back and let you play music in the game i’ll be satisfied

2. appear offline ( for players who don’t want to be bothered while playing )

4. our own music while were playing a game and to use our own flash drives to you know add to our videos we create

Video makers and game reviewers would benefit from a trim feature for commentary like the one available for gameplay clips in a future update to ShareFactory.
How about a Bluetooth update to allow Turtle Beach headsets that are higher end like the XP
500 and the XP510 as well as all other high end headsets that have Bluetooth connectivity to be able to connect with the PS4 and be able to chat with friends or in game. I have the 500’s but I need a chat cable in order to talk and the whole purpose of being wireless is totally defeated. Any possibilities on this being fixed soon?
The ability to change user name…please! Many of us would of rushed our user names in order to get on just after midnight on release night (you all know that feeling) so it would be great to take our time and get it right.
After your update my controller has no vibrations each time I turn on my ps4. The only way to fix it is go to device settings and disconnect and connect again bluetooth. Why is that?

so happy about the HDCP being gone
While using Share after the 1.7 update I noticed the bottom of the screen where the button prompts are to press Square and Triangle for video and screen shot get messed up the text overlaps each other when you press them together like the wording suggests you can do to take a screenshot and video clip press square and triangle.
Did the update and now my system keeps crashing friends list is messed up menu lagg is excessive just got so mad turned system off need to get fixed ASAP! That’s what we pay for its a joke ps3 was free and didn’t have as much problems also when trying to share video clip only option is Facebook options are jacked up hate it!

before this update i could select rretry on Downloads and continue stopped download items.
But now when I face an error. I should change delete the file and download it again. it means that i cant download any thing form playstation store anymore
Heres an urgent fix/update that must be done for fellow streamers(I included)
We need an update that lets us switch games during the livestream broadcast because having to end the entire stream and switch to have people confused on getting back and losing viewers in the process shouldn’t happen.
Let us be able to switch games during stream for more fulfillment in the livestream and less hassle.
Or at the very least account options for every member of twitch on the PS4 to be able to see the people they follow just like on twitch and be able to jump back in the stream in seconds.
Please take this into consideration as many have asked and future others will just add onto this issue.

There’s been tons of threads about the firmware 1.70 bricking some consoles, and other problems.
Since updating myself, the vibration function won’t work on the dual shock on ANY game….
Come on Sony…..get your act together…
It would be pretty sweet if we had the ability to change the color of the LED bar on the controller.
I still DESPERATELY think sub accounts should be able to upgrade to Master Accounts. When a sub account’s owner hits the age of 18 they should automatically upgrade. Even if you have to confirm it with the previous Master Account. PLEASE PLEASE do this!
I love the option of sorting trophies by rarity. Now can you add in the option to sort the games by alphabetical order like you can on the PS3? Would love that again.
sony please please please add 3d blu ray support. and make a blu ray/dvd remote controller or add compatibility to the ps3 one.
sold my ps3 to get the ps4, not knowing it would not support 3d blu ray. makes no sense having to buy another blu ray player just for 3d when the ps4 can clearly do it

– While using the share feature, it doesn’t record other players voice chat. Can you please enable this?
– While using an external capture card with a headset, there needs to be a “multi sound output” because sound is either through the headset or HDMI, not “BOTH”
These 2 things are holding back YouTubers who are on the playstation platform, I guess that could be half the reason why there isn’t much self created content with the PS4

I would love to be able to use my dualshock controller with my main account on Vita using remote play.
It’s possible now, but you have to login to another account with the dualshock so you can’t use your main profile.
Addition to previous comment. If using dualshock controller while using remote play on main account isn’t possible, please allow easier switching of accounts on ps vita. Thank you.
This is great. I hope they fix remote play between ps4 and vita. It’s not very stable at all and my ps4 is hooked by either cable to 30mb cable net…
How about remote play chat? It’s great to have remote play, I love it. Nothing better than being able to play my ps4 games on my vita! Well almost nothing… There would be nothing better if I could play my ps4 games on my vita WITH friends and they could hear me and I could hear them. That would be the cats meow.
Hello, for futer update i would like to see options where i can turn off the ps4 controllers light instead of jusr dim, a youtube app would be nice,ps4 themes,better stabability,and also get HD trailers on your psn without it freezing to load all the time,and ir would be nice to see color keyboards that yo could custimize

I cancelled my preoder of watch dogs for amazon and switched to the digital copy of it. When I learned about the preload.

This update made some great features only to come with a handful of errors. Not a good a good update at all!!
PS4 Wish List:
1. Music Apps – Music Unlimited can be slow, Opening and closing app takes time that adds up.
– Spotify is a great app. I feel forced to use Music Unlimited. (More user friendly interface would help)
2. PS4 music player for imported tracks + Ability to play during gameplay
3. Lack of applications on store. RTE Player etc. IMDB App (Great along side Netflix) Adverts. Off the top of my head
4. Flash player for Youtube. Theres so many videos lacking on this app due to no flash player. Feels like a waste
+ Points for IGN
5. Customisation options. Lack of wallpapers/screen saver, No media/video player. Control being taken away from users. Ps3 variety made it feel unique + mine
6. Home screen is bland and cluttered. PS3 homescreen was ideal. I.e. (Filters and folders) Freq played games, Favorited games, New games
7. Poor PSN categories and listings. New games section needed. Demos section needed. Sale’s tab would be a nice. Multiple filter options
8. Appear offline option
Paying €400+ for the console with all these small missing elements, they all add up. So much was taken away from the PS4 that fit in so nicely with the PS3 and previous consoles.

Just wondering when the preload will start. MLB The show is out tonight at Midnight. Yet no preload has started yet.
Hi, I’m trying to record gameplay on my Elgato Game Capture HD, but I have run into a problem. Whenever I plug in my headphones, my default setting is to have all audio go through to them, but none goes through to the recording software. Only if I set the system so that my headphones receive only chat audio, then my Elgato picks up the rest of the audio.
My problem is that I also want to add live commentary, but since the audio goes into the tv and the elgato and not the headset, I would get an audio feedback on my microphone, which I want to avoid. When I set the audio to transmit through the headphones, I can’t get any audio to go through to my Elgato at all. How do I fix this issue? I have looked over at Elgato’s website and they did not have anything to say about this as far as I’m aware.
My headset is the Playstation Wireless Gold Headset, for context.
