The Last of Us: New Mode and Multiplayer DLC Detailed

We’re pleased to announce the third and final drop in The Last of Us season pass. Here’s a look at what’s coming for the next DLC drop:

New trophies and a mix of single-player and multiplayer content await you in this DLC drop. Grounded Mode will be the hardest challenge you’ll ever face as you try to complete the single-player campaign of The Last of Us. The AI is relentless, smart, and brutal, and survival will be near impossible. “Completed Grounded Mode” might be one of the most difficult Trophies you’ll ever earn. If you’re not a season pass holder, Grounded Mode will cost $4.99 standalone.

The Last of Us DLC

The Reclaimed Territories Map Pack features four news maps: Wharf, Capitol, Coal Mine, and Water Tower. Each map has a mix of Trophies attached and is set in a location that will be familiar yet unfamiliar to players of the single-player campaign. Intelligent use of climbing, stealth, flanking, and all your clan survival techniques will be essential to master these maps. It’s available for $9.99 for non-season pass holders.

Wharf Set in the rusted-out docks where Joel encountered Robert, the Wharf map features close quarters gameplay, two snipers nests, and a giant boat. It’s full of good opportunities for climbing, flanking, and stealth.
Capitol Set in Boston, the Capitol Map features indoor and outdoor gameplay. It encourages the intelligent use of flanking.
Coal Mine Set in Colorado, Coal Mine is a winter map that’s spotted with abandoned buildings. It’s a spacious map that has long lines of sight and a bridge that’s a perfect perch for snipers. The dynamic snowstorm obscures the view so be on your toes.
Water Tower Set in Lincoln, PA, the Water Tower map features two primary chokepoints for some deadly face-to-face confrontations. It’s mainly an outdoor map with a few indoor areas and some very unique lighting. It might seem open, but it’s really a tight map that’s perfect for close quarters melee.

New guns and new survival skills are coming as part of the next DLC as well. All new guns and skills are available to try before you buy as part of new pre-set load outs. The Survivalist Weapon Bundle costs $5.99, and contains four new weapons: Specter, Double Barrel, Enforcer, and Launcher. These guns have very unique attributes that have been carefully balanced so as to offer new play styles that fit into the existing Factions gameplay.

Survivalist Weapon Bundle Need more firepower? This is your bundle. The Survivalist Weapon bundle includes the Specter, Double Barrel, Enforcer, and Launcher.
Specter A silenced assault rifle that’s great if your style is stealth stalker. PSN purchase unlocks this gun for use in your Custom Loadout. Equip in the Purchasable loadout slot, then use in-game parts to buy it during the match.
Double Barrel Classic, deadly, double-barrel shotgun. Only 1 loadout point. PSN purchase unlocks this gun for use in your Custom Loadout. Equip in the Purchasable loadout slot, then use in-game parts to buy it during the match.
Enforcer Highly accurate pistol but will cost you an extra loadout point.
Launcher A weapon that fires small explosives, in the vein of a home-made potato gun. PSN purchase unlocks this gun for use in your Custom Loadout. Equip in the Purchasable loadout slot, then use in-game parts to buy it during the match.

Two Survival Skills Bundles, Situational Survival Skills Bundle and Professional Survival Skills Bundle, are also included if you own the season pass. If you want to purchase these standalone, they’ll cost you $3.99 each. These skills are very effective ways to find your new favorite play style.

Situational Survival Skills Bundle Unlock four survival skills that will help you get the best of any situation. This bundle includes Agility, Awareness, Fortitude, and Scavenger.
Agility Climb, vault, and move while crouching faster than you could before. At level 3 you are nearly impossible to hear while moving.
Awareness See enemy nametags before they see yours and enemy nametags remain on screen for several seconds when taking fire.
Fortitude Downed? Level up this skill and it will help you survive longer as you’ll take longer to bleed out, crawl faster, and have more health when downed. At higher levels you’ll start with an extra health pack, and earn extra parts each time you heal.
Scavenger Automatically pick up ammo and supplies and see increases in drops from enemies with this valuable skill. At level 3 enemies sometimes drop a random crafting ingredient.
Professional Survival Skills Bundle Unlock four survival skills that will make you even more deadly. This bundle includes Gunslinger, Bomb Expert, Executioner, and Damage Marker.
Gunslinger Equip this skill to start each spawn with more pistol ammo as you level up the skill.
Bomb Expert Your bombs will explode more quickly and you’ll be immune to the stun of your own smoke bomb as you level up this skill.
Executioner If your play style is the higher the risk, the greater the reward, then this is the skill you want. Earn more parts for shiv kills and special executions, and get extra shiv uses every time you craft a shiv.
Damage Marker Good at hitting your targets? This is the skill for you as you’ll automatically mark any enemies you hit and earn double the parts for making.

Finally, everyone — non-season pass holders, included — will be getting a new gun, the Full-Auto Rifle, for free. This is a fully automatic, modified burst rifle that is very easy to use. It’s the perfect weapon for people who are new to Factions and experts alike.

While it’s been very cool to tell you about all this fresh content, nothing beats showing you. To that end, we’ll be livestreaming for the first time ever Thursday, April 24th over on the Naughty Dog Twitch channel. We’ll be showing off some of the new DLC content, so tune in at 12:00 PM Pacific on April 24th to see new DLC in action.

Additionally, we’ll be doing some livestreaming on Twitch for our participation in Operation Supply Drop’s 8-Bit Salute on May 17th. Head over to learn more about the event at Team Naughty Dog’s fundraising page today.

If you haven’t purchased a season pass for The Last of Us yet, you’re missing out. With our final DLC pack, as well as the Abandoned Territories, the Left Behind, and the multiplayer head item drops all included, you’ll be getting savings of more than 80% versus purchasing all the content individually. The season pass will be available for $19.99 for four more weeks. After the week of May 13th, when PlayStation Store updates in your region, the season pass will no longer be available. • A great last piece for this jewel.
Thanks a lot for sharing it guys, can’t wait to try this on PS4 too.
You made an awesome work with DLCs
    Thank you

  • Whao!!! this is cool.. can you share the trophy list with us?

  • I hate that I am really tempted to pay 59.99 for the Remastered Lat of Us for the PS4 when I already bought the digital version for the PS3. Why do you tempt me so Naughty Dog!

  • Will this be included in the ps4 remastered version?

  • Upgrade program for TLOU PS3-PS4 digital buyers. Please.

  • I’m confused, when is the release date exactly?

  • Curious about seeing those new perks/skills and weapons in action.

  • This has been one of the best Season Passes I’ve ever seen. Thanks for all the content. Can’t wait to dive back in for a go at Grounded Mode. Hopefully I won’t be throwing my controller against the wall.

  • Please include this in the PS4 Remaster.

  • I was really hoping for a co-op DLC pack. Sort of like the semi-story related co-op missions that were in Uncharted 2 & 3. You know, a few missions vaguely related to the story, where 2+ players could sneak and/or battle their way through a few sections of enemies.

This game really felt like it was perfect for something like that, and I’m really disappointed that won’t be happening. Maybe you’ll add it to the PS4 version? Please?

  • Thanks for the update Naughty Dog and for the free weapon as always we Love you, but not really sure on spending more money on the PS3 version on you guys to be left behind whith the PS4 version coming and you continue to avoid adressing this topic.

Please let us know and you have me on board with all the other Platinums I’ve earned from your games.

  • Yes! Can’t wait.

  • Will grounded mode be unlocked from the start or will we have to complete the game on the other difficulty modes first?

  • This looks great! Side question: will you be able to start on survivor difficulty on the PS4 version of Last of Us? Many of us would like to play again and have unlocked it already on the PS3 version.

This is a make a or break issue for many of us who already own the PS3 version. Need a new style of play in addition to the graphic upgrades to warrant purchase.

  • Please give people who purchased on ps3 a discount on ps4 upgrade._.I will feel much better about double dipping and your company.
    Thanks.

  • I hope the PS4 remaster includes all the DLC. That’s the only way I’ll pay 60 for this

  • How come i see 69.99$ for this game on the PS4??

  • “Finally, everyone — non-season pass holders, included — will be getting a new gun, the Full-Auto Rifle, for free. This is a fully automatic, modified burst rifle that is very easy to use. It’s the perfect weapon for people who are new to Factions and experts alike.”

ND, Just save yourself the backlash and embarrassment and remove this gun before you release it. This is my favorite MP of all time and this gun is just going to make it into a third person CoD. This MP is supposed to be about sticking together and carefully flanking and taking your enemies by surprise, so why give people a gun that rewards them for sprinting everywhere and firing carelessly? You might as well give this gun blindfire and call it the Kal-7.

Please tell me this gun has the worst aim and smallest clip of all guns or something.

  • damn WTF!? Canada gets a 10$ increase on games?

  • So the AI of this DLC is the same we have seen at E3 2012 presentation and then scrapped out of the game?

Another question: have you intention of do an “Upgrade Program” like this for TLoU Remastered (PS4)?
    https://blog.playstation.com/2013/09/19/how-to-upgrade-select-ps3-games-to-their-ps4-versions/

It would VERY appreciated… there is no chance i will buy AGAIN the game at full price, specially for who have purchased the Season Pass too…

    Thanks and bye :)

  • You’re in Canada, The dollar dropped and our new games are now $70 not $60

  • Will PS3 owners be able to pay 10 dollars to get a digital version of the PS4 version. I really don’t want to pay 60 dollars for something I’ve already invested so much time into.

  • Awesome! The grounded difficulty mode will be for left behind as well?

  • When I beat a new game+ on Grounded difficulty, will I be rewarded with all possible difficulty trophies? Thanks!

  • How would they even make an upgrade program? By emailing your receipt? Other games with upgrade programs had codes in the box.

  • Hey Eric!

Just have two questions for you.

    1) Any chance of doing a “Double Parts” weekend to celebrate the final DLC drop? People have been wanting one for awhile and last I was told, which was a few months ago, is that there wasn’t really any time to put one together. Any chance of that changing?

    2) Can you release information about how many trophies will be added, single player and multiplayer wise? I understand if not yet allowed to.

Anyway, this looks awesome. Been itching to get back into the MP and doing another playthrough in SP with the new difficulty is more than welcome. So having all this put together will bring me back in for sure.

Thanks for answering the two questions if you can, have a great day! =)

    • Double Parts weekend sounds like a good idea. We’ll see if we can get one going at some point soon.

As for the number of trophies, we’ll be talking about them soon. It’s not a ton but it’s just enough to be challenging that’s for sure!

  • Just reiterating #4’s question, but building on to it:

You already announced that Reclaimed Territories will be included with TLOU: Remastered on PS4, but will the Grounded Mode be included, as well? Is this simply a new difficulty mode, or is there more content to this? $5 for a new difficulty mode seems a bit of a stretch, so I’m hoping there’s more going on behind the scenes.

It’s *almost* negligible, but the little teaser of what Grounded Mode does is getting me antsy for the release.

  • Please tell me you guys will be advertising online for the PS4 this time around, so people will actually know of its existence!

  • Eeeeem one question though: Why are you pulling out the Season Pass? Thanks.

    • It’s been available for nearly one year. We want the season pass holders to feel let they got in at right time!

  • I own the PS3 Disk. WilI be able to upgrade to the digital PS4 Version for a discounted price ?

  • I’m worried about the full auto rifle. Whenever the words “help new players” come up it’s never a good sign.

  • @iRevolter
I believe it’s because the “season” is over. The ideia of a season pass is for you to pre-purchase all content that will be made available, even without knowing what it will be. You are essentially financing them, and as a return, you pay less for each piece of content. It makes sense to remove the season pass after everything is released, or else people will just hold up until the end and then purchase everything at a discount.

  • New trophies hu?…what a disappointment,I play TLoU online like a crazy man but damn, any online trophies are too annoying, how much times will I have to do 100%?…also there was no need to add new weapons.Anyway this looks good….that Grounded Mode ho man I’ll be going right into it…looking forward to try out those new maps.

A question though…I remember you saying something about new missions…what about that?…there is a high need of that.

And what about a patch that was supposed to come months ago to fix that goddamn bug of crafting 3 items and receiving only 30 parts?

  • If I have the season pass and I bought the PS4 version of TLOU, will I have access to ALL this content (not just the new maps, I mean)? Or do I have to re-purchase the whole season pass for the PS4 version?!

  • Pay 2 Win. Wow! I have the season pass, so I’m not complaining about not having it, but I definitely wasn’t expecting this route to be taken.

  • Just wanted to say that Bomb Expert,Executioner and Damage Marker looks like the THING…ha finally I won’t get caught in my own Smoke Bombs.

Also the Specter weapon looks like a bad idea…you guys really want to put a silencer into that overpowered weapon?….that will be annoying….and the Enforcer is the Desert from Uncharted 2 ha pretty nice…hope its just as powerful.

  • Holly Macarroni and Cheese Goose Bumbs! This is GREAT! Feels like allot of New content to explore and spark new life to both, SP & MP! Yes! Yeeeeessssssss!

  • Will we get any word on cross buy or a discount for people who already own the digital version and season pass? I’d love to play it again on PS4 but can’t justify full retail price.

  • Holy buckets! With all this multiplayer DLC, they should also put in some extra loadouts. Four won’t be enough for all this DLC.

  • except for the Grounded Mode in SP, this is all MP content right?

  • does Last of US remastered wil have cross play online ps3vsps4? will the Season Pass Owners have something extra for the ps4 version? Will Naughty Dog Finally hear their fans and make a 4 players Co-op survival mode for the remastered version? thanks

  • I can’t wait! this is gonna be good and thanks Eric for the date of the stream I’m going to mark it on the calendar. I already preorder the PS4 version too.

  • You guys have too many questions for ND :)

  • @ 35 AngelMayLaugh – You shouldn’t be surprised…after TLoU Milked edition for PS4…you shall expect anything from ND.

  • I would like to personally say THANK YOU again for all the awesome work Naughty Dog does. I love every single one of your games and The Last of Us is at the top of my list of favorites. The single player was damn near perfect and the multiplayer is so good that I’m still playing it. You guys have done DLC in the best way possible making me anticipate every drop. The season pass has been one of the best deals I have seen (look at all this content!). I can not wait to download all of this and destroy that new difficulty because as it stands now I have 100% trophy score in the game and I plan to keep it.

You guys are the best damn studio in gaming and I can’t wait to do this all again on the PS4(I have it reserved!)

    Your lifelong fan,
    Steve

  • It’s gonna be AWESOME!

  • the only thing this game was missing was boss fights! boss fights are a thing that we are losing in this generation of gaming. that is why the Soul Series its in my top ranks on gaming in this generation

  • Why hasn’t ND added something like some “infected” maps for MP? Some maps with normal Infected, Clickers, and Bloaters? I love TLoU’s MP. It’s at or near the top of my favorite experiences, and definitely has some crazy intense moments. Now add to that having to take into account a few Clickers and a Bloater? Would make for some fun strategies. Maybe they could just patch it in as an optional setting for normal multiplayer….please?

  • 1. So with Agility, we won’t even need Covert Training if we don’t want our enemies to hear us right?

    2. How come the grounded difficulty wasn’t available at launch? I really hope the AI is smarter.

  • I can’t wait!

I really appreciate all the hard work the team has put in to making a great game even greater.

Am I a little sad that the Mall isn’t one of the new maps? Sure.. but what you have done I’m sure will more than make up for it.

Thank you for all your effort. As a Season Pass holder from the beginning, it was well worth the purchase.
