Update: PS4 system software update 1.70 is confirmed to land in North America on April 30th.
As we mentioned last month during GDC, we’ll be releasing a major system software update for PS4 that will add some exciting new features that many of you have been asking for. Today, I’m pleased to announce a few of those features from PS4 system software update (v1.70) will be available soon, including features that were incorporated as a result of your great feedback. This will be a significant update, and today we’re excited to bring you a sneak peek of just a few things you can look forward to.
Introducing: SHAREfactory
The 1.70 update will enable SHAREfactory, our new rich video editor app for PS4 that makes it easy for you to customize your gameplay videos:
With SHAREfactory, you can now easily combine your captured video clips for editing, personalize them with special effects using filters, transitions, and themes, as well as share them with your friends and social networks. SHAREfactory also allows you to personalize your videos by adding text, stickers, and a set of included audio tracks, as well as video commentary with picture-in-picture capability with PlayStation Camera. It also allows you to import your original music to add to the custom soundtrack for your video.
Share With the World
Once you’re done with your masterpiece, you can easily share your SHAREfactory videos to Facebook, or export them to an external USB storage device to upload them elsewhere, another new feature coming as part of the 1.70 system software update. Other PS4 SHARE enhancements include the ability to change the recording time of your gameplay to shorter increments, the ability to change who you share your clips with on the SHARE screen, and the removal of default saves for screenshots and video clips. In addition to these SHARE enhancements, the 1.70 update will allow you switch off HDCP, enabling you to capture video directly from your HDMI output so you can record and share longer clips of your gameplay sessions — a feature I know many of you have been waiting for. We are excited to see what the PlayStation Nation does with these new social features, and cannot wait to get them into your hands!
Play as Soon as the Game is Released
Providing you with immediate access to your games is a priority designed into PS4, and something we will always strive to make better. We’ve had a great response from PS4 fans about the Play as You Download feature, the snappy load times when launching and playing games, and the general speed and responsiveness of the UI. The 1.70 update adds features to build on this idea and make it faster to play the games you pre-order with an auto pre-download capability, which allows you to pre-download your select pre-ordered game up to several days prior to release. If you have the auto-download feature enabled, it will automatically pre-download your pre-ordered game so you can play as soon as the game is unlocked on release day.
As I mentioned earlier, some of these features were a direct result of the great feedback we’ve been getting from you, our dedicated gamer community. We enjoy listening to your comments, and encourage you to continue sharing your thoughts with us. And this is just the beginning. We’ve got a lot more coming in PS4 system software update v1.70 and beyond. The PS4 experience will constantly evolve, and new innovative ideas can come from anywhere to ensure the platform continues to deliver the best in gaming and entertainment every time you turn it on.

I Have been a fan of xbox for awhile but ever since iv had the ps4 and vita you guys have just given us what we want witch xbox never does keep kicking there you know what you doing things right! “keeping me happy” ;)

Will there ever be an update where you can use headsets such as my turtle beach p11 where you can hear out of both ears? Mainly because the experience with both ears working is much better than one :)

You call this an update? This is just non-essential trash. Nobody gives a rip about uploading there game play videos to YouTube. I know I don’t. I want all the features of the PS3 with graphics improvement. That is why I bought the PS4. So far Sony hasn’t met my expectations. I can only assume that other gamers feel the same way I do. How about DLNA support like we we’re promised. Sony shouldn’t be pushing their Sony unlimited apps. I don’t want to pay for those services because I don’t need them. Which customers is Sony really listening to? Maybe there just listening to whatever corporate tells them to do instead of listening to the demands of the actual customers that bought their product(s).
How about that update to allow the PS4 to play 3D Blu-Rays? Got a new 3D television and was excited to watch a few new 3D movies after moving my old TV/PS3 to the bedroom and the new TV/PS4 to the living Room only to find out the PS4 doesn’t yet support 3D blu Rays. Very inconvenient considering the PS4 obviously looks better on the newer Television but the PS3 is the only one that supports the 3D movies currently leaving my old television without the media support.. Even if you can just give us a general time frame on when to expect the update would be great…
i would like to see tv-less support with remoteplay, the ps4 almost whants to boot but errors out not finshing the connection because theres no hdmi plugged in. i would like to use it kinda like a ps vita ps4 vnc.
I want more support for the PsVita like so i can put music, pictures, and ect. like the on the Ps3 it seems like a step back, the Ps3 supports the PsVita more then the Ps4 does
DLNA and external or network storage are at the top of my list!!!!
Oh please, oh please let us have dynamic wallpapers on this update! It would be cool to be able to use video clips as the dynamic wallpaper too! I also really wish I could organize the cluttered PS4 home screen. I really miss the PS3 way of organizing things nice and neatly. Also of course I really, REALLY wish for backwards compatibility. I know it could be done on the PS4. It is powerful enough and more than capable. If not we will lose these great classics eventually once our old machines fail and that will be a tragedy! Also how about enabling the 3D capability? Please make our machines real “PlayStations”!!!

last month Sony said the update is coming soon, now one month later Sony says the same, that means you have to wait another month for the “update comes very soon” announcement.

The video app looks good but surely this is only a minor thing on peoples wish list.
When will USB support be added so I can listen to music/watch films etc?
MOST IMPORTANTLY… why does it say if you logged in 24 hours prior to any maintenance you can get online but I never can?

I would rather have: a youtube app, 3D, media server and the ability to block channels on the “live on PlayStation”.
What I would love is an option that I could choose whether to record or stream to hear party chat or in-game chat internal or external for the 1.70 update!
Saving to USB and upload anywhere is great.
Uploading it to youtube, vimeo and others as we play would be GREATER.
– We could at least do this through the built in navigator by picking a folder as we do in our computer.
The update i last heard was this month and back in march the guy said not days but weeks he said this 4 weeks ago and we are approaching week 5 I’m guessing the stupid update will either be late may or early june.

Hey i would be happy if you guys did this update during late hours rather than prime gaming hours. I was having fun but me and my party were seperated and then my ps4 actually crashed (not the first time). I really like the ps4 but why is it feel the ps3 has features that the the ps4 doesnt have, for example dynamic ui and YouTube app. I’m sure u guys r working on it but i’m just a little disappointed that the console is taking a while to launch to my expected standard. Instead of just moaning i’d like to pitch a couple of ideas: let us have some options with trophies, like our targets or our best trophy. A dynamic theme, i would be happy with the ps3 dynamic theme system but you could create something original. Is a custom keyboard possible? I want more punctuation. Why is my ps3 faster at loading players met but slower at loading PS store? the graphs on psnprofiles.Com are interesting and some ppl would want them on their profiles. Is a skype app possible? because XB have that.appear busy or offline to friends.

Would be nice to play my own home videos/mp3s from usb or dlna. Why can’t it just simly do everything like the ps3. With the new update will I be able to import my own videos or mp3s and watch them in the sharefactory.

Will this update allow us to save video/music from external storage onto the PS4 hard drive?
was very disappointed to learn that this feature was dropped in the PS4 after using the PS3 – its what made PS3 a complete entertainment hub as opposed to other consoles and would love for PS4 to be able to do the same again.
what about extra chat functions like being able to adjust game and voice volumes when you have all sounds through your headset for mics plugged into the controller

Please! For the love of God put Username Changer already! My name is living proof we need PSN ID changer.. I made it a long time ago and didn’t really think it through but now I have almost 1,000 trophies and lots of $ spent on it so i’m def NOT MAKING A NEW ONE!!

How about touchpad support for the web browser and UI?
Suggestions for further improvement. (PS4)
1. A tab that tells us a friend logs in and out of PSN/their game.
2. The ability to hide us from our friend(s)
3. Expand chat to include PS4 to and from PS3.
4. Have an app that if the PC player pays the monthly PS plus fees they can communicate with PS3 and PS4 players.
5. PS4 to PS4 video conferencing.
6. Themes options for PS4.
7. Expand chat to 24 people. (like TeamSpeak)
8. Mail icon that we can use out Dual Shock 4 to answer while playing a game (game would pause of course but it wouldn’t exit said game.)
9. Chat icon so we can join while playing a game. (8 and 9 could be chosen from a simple menu that appears when you hit the PS button?)
10. Allow voice chat to come through our controller’s speakers.
11. Allow us to choose the color of our controller.
12. Have the option to click on all saves one wants to save to the cloud in case of emergencies.
13. Allow the PS4 to refresh the saves to either daily, weekly and monthly.
This is freakin idiotic. How are mp3, dlna and bluetooth headsets not a priority?
Its hard to imagine that what people a crying out for is a way to share gameplay videos. How stupid.

I hope HDCP does not have similar problems that your competitor has/had. Not sure is it fixed but if some app toggles on HDCP and does not toggle it off – it might stay on until power off or exclusively some app will toggle it off. Even when you quit app and return to system UI/main menu.

Im probably the stupidest guy in the world just going to a shop buying an ps4 thinking it would automatically be better than the ps3 system :/ Just got back from duty went stright to the shop… been having the ps4 in the house for like 4 hours now just found out that this think cant do anything else than playing games. what happened to the awesome media server ps3 system :/ and here i read. guys are happy they can share videos. I must say this thing goes farly quickly back on e-bay if the DLNA Media Server Support doesn’t come back. ( ps also see that my ps3 games wont work lol, that i actually expected since it happened when we went from ps2 to 3)
