PS Vita: Soul Sacrifice Delta, Freedom Wars, Oreshika Confirmed for N. America

Today we’re really happy to announce a trio of brand new PS Vita games from our JAPAN Studio: Soul Sacrifice Delta, an expanded edition of last year’s acclaimed dark fantasy adventure; dystopian action RPG Freedom Wars; and stunning JRPG Oreshika: Tainted Bloodlines.

Soul Sacrifice Delta will be first to arrive on May 13th, and we’ll confirm more details around Oreshika: Tainted Bloodlines and Freedom Wars in the coming months. For now, I’ll hand over to the games’ respective producers to tell you more about each title. And then later today look out for an interview with JAPAN Studio chief Allan Becker.

Soul Sacrifice Delta on PS Vita

Soul Sacrifice Delta

Soul Sacrifice Delta is the ultimate edition of Soul Sacrifice with tons of new content and improvements. Grim, the faction who believes in neutrality in all things, joins the blood thirsty Avalon and the merciful Sanctuary, and adds a third angle to bring the Delta in Soul Sacrifice. Grim’s beliefs, rooted in the prophecy they will seek to realise, will bring about irrevocable changes to the world as we know it.

The concept of faction is now at the heart of the game with players able to join the side of their choice, each with their own strengths and play styles. Players from each faction can now register their overall progress.

Soul Sacrifice Delta brings a lot of new content as well, with new Archfiends inspired by dark retellings of classic fairy tales, new sorcerers, arenas, spells and even more quests.

We have also made many improvements to the game design and systems: the graphics engine has been optimized, some arenas are now dynamic with weather effects and structural changes during battle, the spells system has been refined and allows for more collaborative and deeper gameplay.

We’ve also improved the AI of the Archfiends, who are now more vicious than ever. Finally, we’ve taken character customization to a new level, with the ability to mix custom parts and accessories.

Save data from Soul sacrifice including story progression, costumes, offerings, sigils, black rites, life/soul essence and lacrima (up to 10,000) will carry over to Soul Sacrifice Delta! So, if you transfer your save data from Soul Sacrifice, the story progression will carry over and you can continue on with your adventure in Soul Sacrifice Delta.

So that’s Soul Sacrifice Delta in a nutshell, but please stay tuned for more information soon. – Kumi Yuasa

Freedom Wars on PS Vita

Freedom Wars

We’re excited to finally announce that Freedom Wars is coming to North America! Some of you may have caught wind of the team working on this title, but JAPAN Studio, Shift and Dimps have joined forces to create an action-packed RPG on PlayStation Vita!

Freedom Wars is set in a dystopian world which harbors prisoners, each with a million-year sentence set from birth. You take on the role of a prisoner, forced to fight for your freedom by completing rescue missions that will reduce your seemingly insurmountable prison sentence.

Supported by a robust multiplayer suite, up to four players can play via Ad-Hoc and eight players via Online to fight civilian Abducters; the more civilians you set free, the shorter your sentence becomes. In addition to the challenging co-op gameplay, you’ll be pleased to know that the game has many customizable features ranging from weapon load-outs to the protagonist itself! Check out our new trailer and make sure to stay tuned for more news on Freedom Wars, launching later this year! – Dais Kawaguchi

Oreshika: Tainted Bloodlines on PS Vita

Oreshika: Tainted Bloodlines

Next up we have Oreshika: Tainted Bloodlines which is one that you JRPG fans need to have on your radar. “What does ‘Oreshika’ mean?”, I hear you cry. Actually the full title in Japanese is ‘Ore no Shikabane wo Koete Yuke’ which means something along the lines of ‘Go Forth Over My Dead Body’.

In case you haven’t guessed it by now it’s an RPG in which you take charge of an ancient Japanese clan that have been cursed with a maximum lifespan of just 2 years. Your task is to lead the clan on their quest to lift the curse and enlist the help of gods inspired by Japanese mythology to make sure each new generation of the clan is more powerful than the last.

We’ve got some screenshots to show off the beautiful Japanese art style of the characters and environments, but it looks even more fantastic on the PS Vita screen! We’ve got lots more details to share on this one very soon so stay tuned. – Tomoyo Kimura

  • I got interested in Soul Sacrifice Delta from the podcast the other day, but was disappointed that it was only in Japan. Good news that it will be making it over here.

  • Well done SCEJ & SCEA!

  • LONG LIVE THE VITA!!!!!!!

THE YEAR OF THE VITA BABY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Never heard of the last one, but looks sweet. Yay to all these! Especially Freedom Wars!

  • i forever will love Rpg wait for this titule

  • @50

The same reason it takes 4-6 months for Western games to go over to Japan. It takes time to localize the games and the priority is finishing the game first and translating it second.

  • Thanks, Sony! Thanks for listening to your customers! I’ll be waiting for the Freedom Wars Demo to come out, to be sure it is to my liking! I’ll pre-order Soul Sacrifice Delta, as soon as it’s available! And, looking forward to know more about the last game! Keep the good games coming to the West for PS Vita!
By the way, any idea if the Tales of for PS Vita would come to the West? There are many fans who wish to play Tales of Heats R, and Tales of Innocence R, which are exclusive to Japan… Myself included.

  • What a year for the Vita!!! I’ve never been happier with my purchase. Sony – you rock.

  • Nice! I’m definitely excited for all 3 games.

  • Made my day!!! So happy to hear that all of these games are coming to the US PS VITA owners, especially Oreshika, I’ve been itching for this one! Thanks a lot! Looking forward to buying them all.

  • This is awesome. Can’t wait to try out Freedom Wars!

However, whats the story on Tales of Innocence and Tales of Hearts R? My girlfriend and I are huge Tales players and want to get our hands on these two Vita games.

  • Excited for all 3. Will buy all 3!

  • All we need are the localizations of Sen no Kiseki, J-Stars Victory and Operation Abyss to call 2014 the Year of Vita.

  • Preordering freedom wars and might even get my little brother a copy because it looks that good. **** 3ds and its 4000 mario games

  • PLEASE DO NOT DUB the game in english…. thanks sony

  • SO excited for these three games. Most of all, Freedom Wars! Can’t wait for these titles to fall into my hands later this year!

  • Will these be dubbed in English?

  • Not interested in Soul Sacrifice Delta….It not my type of Hunting Game. I do give it that it is the only one that can stand up to MH games. Toukiden, God Eater, Ragnarok lack a bit.

I look forward to Freedom Wars….I like the concept. It has that manga feeling of “7 Seeds” or the western movie where they fight Kaiju from the rift.

Oreshika….my favorite genre is JRPG…..will pick this up but only after some research on the JP market.

  • Been keeping an eye on Freedom Wars since it got announced last year, glad I waited before deciding on importing it or not, will definitely be a day 1 buy for me.

Oreshika: Tainted Bloodlines interests me somewhat, I`ll go do my homework on it and look up some more information on it but knowing me it’ll be a day 1 purchase as well.

  • Totally unexpected and AWESOME! Now get Namco to get GE 2 over here. Heck, might as well get the long delayed Lord of Apocalypse too! Vita really is the premier place for Hunting style games, which I’ve become rather addicted to these past years. They offer the thrills of MMORPG style collection and community play, with none of the epeen nonsense you find in those games. In fact, the communities are downright helpful for the most part.

I shall be getting all of these. Can’t wait.

    Keep the Vita news flowing!

  • Awesome all around, especially Freedom Wars. :)

  • Oh, and we’re past the point of offering digital-preorders on Vita games. This shouldn’t be as big of an issue as it is, especially with every Vita game having a digital release. Day one preorders. C’mon Sony.

  • Shut up and just take my money.

  • Super psyched for Oreshika! Been following it for months and will be a day one purchase. I will join the everyone else is asking that the original Japanese voices be left in or available as a DLC option like Soul Sacrifice.

  • Nice very nice, more games are always welcome…too much RPG though but whatever, good job guys and Japanstudio are a beast of devs…one of the best in the business…so I got a question:Any chance to bring that ” htoL#NiQ – Hotarunonikki “game to NA?….that game looks damn great.

  • tales of hearts is next?vita library is getting better by the day!

  • Thanks for bringing these over, specially Freedom wars, been waiting for this title quite some time.

Only thing who would top this is an official EU/NA release of Sword Art Online, granted hte taiwaneese version releasing next month contains English but would much more rater have a proper release in my own regions.

  • Awesome 3 games that aren’t 1st person shooters (althought killzone my favorite vita shooter and Dead Nations looks promising) more JRPG please. And that still leaves out God Eater 2, Gravity Rush 2, J-Star Victory Vs, Phantasy Star Nova etc. I hope they all get a chance to make it over here. i would love to see something like Legend of Dragoon 2, “MegaMan Legend” or even a White Knight Chronicles exclusive for vita.

  • Sooooooooooooooooooooooooo glad we are getting Freedom Wars. Easily my most wanted Vita title.

  • I WANT FINAL FANTASY TYPE-0!! please tell Square Enix to remaster and localize it for PS Vita.

  • And SS Delta is digital only. Thus I remove my happiness and replace it with disgust and frustration. At this rate, Oreshika is definitely going to be digital only. Freedom Wars is the only one with hope for retail availability.

Learn how to actually work within the niche fanbase Sony. You’d think you’d research more after the stupidity over passing on Demon’s Souls. The importing on that game was crazy. Yet you were oblivious, and thus Atlus reaped the rewards on that and Bamco took it out from under you.

The Vita will continue to be with “no games” when there are no games on any retailer’s lists. Not just on store shelves, but in amazon/gamestop/whatever’s website. Not even a limited, retail exclusive release like Bamco is likely doing with Tales of Hearts and is doing with One Piece Unlimited World Red. How’s it feel to be the worst publisher on your own platform?

  • Please consider leaving intact the original Japanese voice acting for Freedom Wars (including the create-your-own-android functionality) and Oreshika.

  • THIS IS AWESOME, Really happy to hear all three are coming over, made my day guys, you really did!

    • Thank you for your comments and for voicing :)
We’re all excited to be able to work on these titles!

  • I can’t wait to play Freedom wars!!

  • Soul Sacrifice with more content? The original already had too much content, and all DLC was free. Of course I’ll buy Delta.

I will wait to learn more about the other two, but I like this trend of more JRPGs coming to the West.

  • Thank you for localizing RPGs for the Vita!!! Especially OreShika! So excited about that one.

  • retail release please

  • Really happy about Oreshika: Tainted Bloodlines

The Vita is the best handheld console for modern JRPGs. Sony need to push devs to make games for it. I was sad to only have Persona 3 and 4 on it, I was glad to see FF X/X-2 HD coming too. Now I can’t wait for this new IP.

  • Will these games have their native Japanese language voice overs or something along the lines of a Japanese language pack DLC like you did with last year’s Soul Sacrifice?

  • Can’t wait to grab these, I would LOVE to see SwordArt Online : Hollow Fragment come to the west as well. Also awaiting more information on the next installment for Gravity Rush!

  • so… ss delta in may. oh well… might as well kiss goodbye to another 200+ hours

  • OreShika!!!!!! yeahhhhhhhhhhh gotta prepare my wallet for this year!! i love when Sony loves the Vita

  • Yeah! I love my Vita, I can’t wait for those games! :D

  • Looking for Freedom Wars,is it even in English language? Dubbed or a subbed?

  • @9 Bro I feel you and with you,I want Resident Evil for my Vita :(

  • Great news. We can play them in full if they support Japanese voice as well.

  • Thanks for not waiting to bring over Freedom Wars!

  • Wow, what a great news for the Vita owners, can’t wait for Freedom Wars, and Soul Sacrifice Delta…but what really impressed me was that Oreshika it’s gonna be localized, i’m a super fan of the art style of that game, i only can say…hell yeah!! (sorry for my bad english, i’m from Mexico xD)

  • Soul Sacrafice had some great parts to it, but think one was enough.

Freedom Wars looks decent, but definately not a day one purchase.
