Dead Nation: Apocalypse Edition Coming to PS4 March 4th

The best-ever version of the smash hit Dead Nation is making its way to PS4 next week on March 4th. Dead Nation: Apocalypse Edition will be available on PlayStation Store for $14.99 and PlayStation Plus members will be able to download it as part of their Instant Game Collection.

Dead Nation: Apocalypse Edition is a top-down shoot ’em up, set in an apocalyptic, zombie-infested world. It comes from the talented developer Housemarque, famous for the Super Stardust series, and more recently the critically acclaimed Resogun.

Dead Nation features a full campaign mode, which can be played solo or co-op (either online or local).

Exclusively available on PS4, Dead Nation: Apocalypse Edition features numerous enhancements, making it the best version yet. You can now play in full 1080p HD, with improved textures, rendering, and effects — Dead Nation has never looked better. We also improved the controls, adding in a quick weapon select so your favorite zombie decimator is never out of reach.

The Road to Devastation expansion is now included in the main game, giving you two extra game modes — Arcade and Endless — allowing you to test yourself against ever increasing odds. And with support for the official PlayStation companion app, all you completionists out there now have a second screen to monitor your game stats as you play.

One of the new features in Apocalypse Edition, which you may have spotted in the trailer, is Challenge mode; every time you finish a single level, you can now send your score over to a friend to try and beat. When playing a challenge you can see the avatar of the player who set the challenge, allowing you to race against them or scope out their high-scoring route. What’s that I hear you say? “What if your friends are no match for your zombie decapitating skills?” Well, how about you take on the challenge of any leaderboard entry, for any single level, made by any player?

My favorite new feature is Broadcast+ mode. In this mode, you can stream your game to the masses interactively, and your viewers can influence the difficulty of your game. Periodically all your viewers, whether they be on PS4 or a web browser, have the option to vote between a positive and negative effect that occurs in your game. There are a total of 30 different voting effects that can occur, ranging from spawning zombie packs to giving the player ammo, or even disabling the player’s ability to sprint. But don’t worry; as a player you can get back at the masses, because voters will appear in your game as named zombies for you to exact your revenge on.

Stay on the lookout for more Dead Nation news soon, including hints and tips and an update on the PS Vita version.

  • Dead Nation, Man!!! I might check out that game on the internet, ps3, P.S. store and maybe more cause Iv’e been hearing rumors “YES” rumors from ya’ll gamers and it seems like ya’ll really like this game so i’ll check it out evenually alright.

  • YES!!!!!!!!!!!!! DEAD NATION!!!!!! AH YEAH!!!!!!!!!!

  • Wow I just got excited for nothing…thought it was a new game until I read “Apocalypse Edition”….damn, same game.At least is for free but still I can’t believe Sony’s jumping into the fray of ” “Enchanced” Edition “.Good news is that we’re getting a Vita version…thats great.Dead Nation seems to be a good fit for Vita.Game is really good on PS3.

  • how about ps vita??? to many sooonnnn… how about ps vita?? borderlands 2 coming sooooooonnnnnn in ps vita sooon 2016… maybe canceled again like warriors of lair..

  • Brilliant! Can’t wait… That Broadcast mode sounds like a riot!!!

  • While this is a good game that I enjoyed playing on the PS3; I’m starting to get concerned about this trend of content coming to PS+ for PS4 being 100% Indie games and (now) PS3 ports.

  • The good thing about this long PSVita wait is that the game should definitely run flawlessly.

  • YESSS!!! I love PS+… Resogun and Don’t Starve are two of my favorite games on the PS4. Can’t wait to dig into this!

  • I loved Dead Nation on PS3! The problem is, I went for the platinum and talk bout a grind… I’m not sure how much more playtime I can muster with the original. I was hoping for a sequel here. I’ll definitely load it up to check it out and maybe get a play-through in, but there will be no PS4 platinum grinding going on here for me…

  • Everyone that’s complaining about PS+ benefits that PS4 users have been receiving, first off it is a requirement to play any game online so there it is. Still $10 cheaper than its competitor and the service is far superior this generation. Then, you’ve got resogun which while arcadey was brilliant. And while Contrast and Don’t Starve were nothing to write home about, Outlast was incredible. We’re only in February, and between Resogun, Outlast, and all the online gaming, Plus has already paid for itself with me. AAAnd that’s not even including Bioshock 3, Metro 2, Borderlands 2, Payday 2, Remember Me, Uncharted 3, and the soon to drop Tomb Raider via my PS3. AGAIN I SAY IT’S ONLY FEBRUARY. Get over it.

  • YES a zombie game that is not outlast or dead rising , gonna invite my friend over.

  • one my me and my husband’s favorite PS3 couch co-op titles. we literally started it up again this week to play through Road of Devastation together, but now we’ll wait for the PS4 version. awesome!! :) will the PS4 version support 3D?

will the Vita version be able to play online co-op with the PS4 version? my husband travels sometimes and games that we can play online together while he’s traveling with the Vita would be ace. Specifically, games that we can play in online co-op while the PS3/4 and the Vita are signed into the same account. (When Vikings Attack supports this, for instance.)

will the Vita be usable as a cross-controller?

really looking forward to a Housemarque title on Vita. it seems like a lot of developers (even first-party ones) aren’t great at optimizing their code for the Vita. (sub-native resolutions, chunky textures, no AA, MP3-quality sound, etc)

  • I love Dead Nation but I gotta say… is this what you guys at huosermarque was hyping us for months? Dead Nation 1.5? Don`t get me wrong, I`d love to check this out but maaaan I thought we were getting a sequel. Please, PLEASE do it, DN is your best game so far and we fans are dying for a sequel. I beg you

  • Umm not on the PSN yet :(

  • Hell Ya!…This Game is So AWESOME!….;)
