PS Vita Turns Two – Celebrate With Sales

PS Vita Anniversary Sale
Hi everyone! I can’t believe it’s been a year, but here we are celebrating another PS Vita anniversary! So much has happened since its launch in North America two years ago – many amazing games were released, Remote Play functionality with PS4 was added, and we announced PlayStation Now is coming to PS Vita. The platform has greatly transformed in the past year, and the passionate support and personal stories I’ve heard from our development community have been truly inspiring. Plus exciting things are on the horizon, including the launch of our new slimmer model PS Vita this spring.

In the meantime, we wish a big “thank you” to our fans for being a part of our community. Starting tomorrow, enjoy the week-long PS Vita Anniversary Sale which will discount some amazing titles.

In addition, @HeyPlayStation is hosting a week-long sweepstakes, featuring Vita related games and accessories. Stay tuned on Twitter for more information!

As with any anniversary, we thought we’d take the time to call-out a few of our memorable moments from the last year. Although many great titles were released, these stood out in particular and kept the device in my purse/pocket/hands at all times.

Spelunky

Spelunky is one of the most addictive and lovable games I’ve ever encountered. From the adorable yet macabre art and animation, to the endless hours of replay grinding (ONE DAY I WILL BEAT KING YAMA), Spelunky will never leave my memory card.

Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc

The story immediately sucks you in with a solid plot-line, unexpected twists, and an eclectic set of characters to choosily befriend (Byakuya’s my #1). I’m quite pumped that our friends at NIS America have already announced Danganronpa 2 coming to the US this Fall… it’s still Monokuma time!

Hotline Miami

The game is perfect for quick bursts on the go, controls well with PS Vita’s analogue sticks and touch pads, and its pixel graphics look fantastic on PS Vita’s screen. Hotline Miami is also full of all sorts of fun Easter egg references to the indie community, which ties in so well with PS Vita’s game library as a whole.

Tearaway

Definitely a must buy if you own a PS Vita. With gorgeous art, a killer soundtrack, and Iota/Atoi (your personal messenger and best friend), Tearaway is a truly immersive experience that makes you enjoy the world in a new (and papery) way.

My favorite part of the PS Vita is all the personal adventures it takes me on and the lasting memories they create. I’ve listed a few above, and I’d love to hear yours. Comment away! <:D

  • Any word yet on when the PS Vita slim bundle will arrive? I’ve been holding out on buying a new one until that comes out.

  • Decent sales, but not as good as the other one.

Also, I hope Vita turning two means changing the three PS+ games on the Vita as well. We’ll see this Thursday.

  • @floatedfoliage I believe the closest they gave to a timeframe for the vita slim bundle was “Spring”. Interpret that how you want.

  • Looks like I’ll be getting Valhalla Knights 3. My 7-year-old sister takes my vita every time she comes over and plays Valhalla Knights on my vita. I’m even thinking of buying her her own vita so she can play awesome games that she loves, like Tearaway and LBPV.

  • If you haven’t bought Tearaway you’re a tearable person.

    Cough. (Sorry)

  • Seriously though, can someone please tell me when the 64GB Memory Stick is coming to US???? I want so many of these Vita titles, and have a huge selection of them stored, I just need more room so I can carry them all with me on the go. I really want as many Vita games on my person as possible

  • @void_Incarnate,

I bought it, thank fully cheaply, I hate the controls, I mean really hate the controls. Wonderful game. I can play 10 minutes at a time before I put it down.

I would liked to have seen the Atlier and Ys games on sale as well. As for the sale, my begrudging vote is “none for me”. I either have them (flow, flower, etc) or they are not at a price I want to pay (Valhalla Knights)

Still keep up the sales when possible Sony.

  • I echo the last blog paragraph whole heartedly. Though it came out late 2012 , I didn’t get Persona 4 golden until Jan/Feb of 2013 and that first half of the year it was like I was living on my Vita. Since then there have been so many other immersive games I’ve discovered on Vita, my ps4 is feeling neglected and I’m pretty sure my ps3 is starting to get jeluse

  • I want to buy Castlestorm complete edition for 9.99 and still cost 14.99 , why?

  • Why every first party title doesn’t go on sale is beyond me.

  • @59: The sale doesn’t start until the store updates tomorrow.

  • I’m actually pretty intrigued by the PS VITA. To be honest, I have no great desire or need for a mobile gaming system, and haven’t since a Game Boy Advance or early Nintendo DS several years ago.

However since I have a PS4 w/ PS+ now and love that, and $150 (with a $50 cert I have) honestly may make it still worth it, especially since I learned there are a bunch of GOOD free PS+ titles for free. I won’t even need to buy a game out the gate – and with remote play it actually may be pretty cool.

Has anyone else just bought it “for the heck of it”? I feel like with all of the cross-connectivity going on, it will be a nice thing to have while I wait for a new iPad to come out down the road!

  • I love my Vita and bought it only about two months after it was released, but you guys need to get rid of the 100 icon limit for the system. Not to mention that I can’t even erase icons like email, Welcome Park, and others that are a waste of space that could be put to better use. It’s been two years already so please find a way to correct this, especially since you have all those interesting indie titles and others coming out in the near future.

  • Love these two sales coming tomorrow. Gonna be spending lots :D ahhh I’m still finishing Lightning Returns too! THE TIME I NEED MORE TIME!

  • @1 Stated it the best.

  • If I buy flOw for PS3, I will get flOw for PSVita/PS4 for free or with sale…? How does the cross-buy works?

  • Hmmmm….Happy birthday, still need more better ps vita games. Im buying a 3ds next month, vita need more game to compete with the 3ds (exclusives). Im still waiting ongameplay for borderlands 2, not gonna pre-order again after what happen with resistance. So much bad memories.

  • Wow now these are the kind of sales PSN needs to keep pace with steam. Theses sales are incredible!!!!!!!!

  • @40 alexroedor You are saying the Vita has no good games? People claim no AAA games or big games? Last i checked Uncharted GA, AC3 Liberation, LBP Vita, Killzone Merc, GRAVITY RUSH, Soul Sac, Toukidan, Burning Skies, MLB the Show, Injustice, TWD, Persona4 Golden, Sly Thieves in Time/Sly collection, NFS, FFX, Borderlands2, Virtues Last Reward, PSASBR, Dragons Crown, Guacamelee, Terrarria, MK, SxT, God of War1&2, Virtua Tennis, MvsC 3, SoundShapes, Flower, Flow, Wipeout2048, even Unit13 and Amazing Spiderman were decent. Granted many are ports but the first 8 games on the list were AAAish Vita exclusives. I’m sure i’m missing a bunch but all of those games are good and many are big “AAA” like titles. With nearly 30games mentioned that encompasses both hands both feet and my gf’s hands to count how many good games are on the Vita.

  • Agree, I think PSVita is now the best portable console.

  • Malicious Rebirth and Valhalla Knights 3 for me. :D

  • please eliminate or raise the 100 icon limit, thanks. with the embrace of smaller indie games on the ps vita, it makes sense to get rid of this artificial ceiling.

also, the ps vita sales have been excellent this year, thank you.

  • @1 & 67 – “Where are the good Vita dev studios the Ready at Dawns ect?” “like 3ds has” ummm….. can you make no parallels between Ready at Dawn and Sony Bend? Besides the talented Bend (Uncharted GA) Japan Studios (GravityRush) and SSM’s little friend – Drink Box (Guacamelee) to name a few. Not to mention the 3ds is not capable of porting the same games the Vita can i.e. Borderlands2, or even coming close to the graphical fidelity i.e. Uncharted/Killzone – to say the 3ds is under powered is an understatement. Mario rehashes and kiddie – gimmick games describes the DS – how many great (non 2D sidescrolling) action tps platformers or great FPS are on it? Who’s Rayman looks/sounds better – HD? remote play? Anyone over the age of 14 who is not a nintendy fanBOY has no excuse not to be playing a Vita – come on Animal crossing …… really? that is your Magnum Opus? Vita is a beast, if you own PS4 it’s a must – you can not get a console like experience (Uncharted GA – Killzone Merc yes are console quality) on any phone or ds – btw the DSXL has a SMALLER screen than the Vita. OLED i could go on. For a 2yr old console the Vita a great catalog and a steady and growing fanbase i.e. the Wii U.

  • aaaaaand not a single game i’m interested in. oh well, i have my borderlands 2 bundle pre-ordered and tons of ps1 to transfer.

  • Also what was so bad about Burning Skies? For a launch game the graphics were not bad – better than anything on ds, framerate was buttery, controls were spot on especially being the first of its kind its controls and shooting were console quality accurate, it had a real SP campaign not a bunch of missions like Unit13, fun multiplayer that i never had a problem with, and an easy platinum which is nice. If you’re a Resistance fan they brought back the weapon wheel, had cool guns like always auger ect they even had a crossbow shotgun combo with explosive arrows. The touch controls worked perfect to throw grenades, swing your axe, and even load your nasty crossbow. Multiple ammo types, upgrading weapons, 1950’s nyc including a battle on the crumbling GW Bridge, new Chimera/weapons, big boss fights and mini boss fights. The critics unfairly buried this game because they were expecting Resistance4. Don’t be a follower this game is very fun if you like fps or Resistance or Vita. 8/10 easy. Better than Unit13(which was okay) better graphics, framerate, controls, story, and setting. Tell me i’m wrong, this fact not opinion.

  • Great sale, but really the only thing I want to see a sale on is the overpriced memory cards. Seriously, a 64gig card for 120 on amazon, that’s over half of what I spent for the system. Not cool.

  • Those Sales coming to Europe also?

  • Nice!

But where are Final Fantasy Type-0?!

  • I don’t see them on the website. Has it started yet?

  • Sony, you should really listen to the @1 comment in this post.

The PSP struggled. But in the end, it was definitely a huge success, specially considering that it was Sony’s first attempt in the handheld market, and that it went up against the almighty Nintendo DS.

The massive support from japanese devs is what changed the tide for the PSP.

Square was a big supporter. They provided exclusive Final Fantasy titles. Parasite Eve. Kingdom Hearts.

Capcom also provided solid support. Monster Hunter. Ghouls n Ghosts. Megaman.

Konami was there as well. Metal Gear Solid Portable Ops and Peace Walker. Castlevania.

The Vita will not miraculously sell all by itself, either by being a second screen to the PS4, an indie machine or a PS3 port machine. If the Vita wants to have a successful third, forth and fifth year, it will need support from third parties, that might not be willing to risk themselves on the Vita.

So it is up to you. Help them. Bring them closer. Make teams available for them. Give good deals on licensing, hell, pay for the development yourselves. You need this machine to sell more and be a success. And it has the potential to do so.

  • (cont.)
Go get Final Fantasy Type-0 ported do the west. It is a PSP game that would make a helluva difference. Go get Crisis Core on the Vita. If the problem is renewing licences, pay for them. Why don’t you get Theathrythm on the Vita? Square releases it even for iOS.

Capcom! Get Monster Hunter on the Vita. Get them to revive megaman on the Vita. Megaman X9? Maverick Hunter X2? Megaman Universe?

Visual Novels are doing well now. Why not approach Kojima production for a HD remake of Snatchers? Policenauts? Its niche, but the kind of niche that would turn heads.

From your side, improve the Vita. Remove the stupid “one account per system”. It makes no sense for a region free portable. Allow PS2 classics. Increase the number of PSX classics. Put your internal studios to work on the Vita. Lower the memory card cost. It was a bad move to try to force a new format on the market using the PS Vita. So you might as well lower the price to make it a viable alternative to Memory Stick Pro , SD cards, Micro-SD and others in the market.

    Make it happen Sony.

  • @81&82
This! Vita has so much wasted potential. Hopefully that will change this year.

And I too want this “one account per system” gone.

  • This is great, but I’m saving my cash when march comes. Borderlands 2 and FF X- X2 on my vita and Dark souls 2 on ps3. March I’M READY!

  • iamtylerdurden1 you must admit that if Sony cared so much about the Vita like Nintendo cares about the 3DS, the Vita would certainly not with this lack of games. One thing that I believe that not only do I like many other people would be happy and motivate new Gamers to buy the Vita, would be to download the comptibility of PS2 games PSStore equal to the PS3, that would be enough. Regrettably the situation of the Vita, the attention they give to it, at most two years, and them as a accessory for the PS4. Sad to say, a very goo and great powers console can die from shortage of games. =/

  • It’s been two years and you still don’t have 100% backwards compatibility with PSP/PSOne games. I just don’t understand. Obviously it’s about money, but who’s responsible? Sony? The publisher? Someone else?

Could you update this list (like you said you would) please?: https://blog.playstation.com/2012/02/09/how-to-download-psp-titles-to-ps-vita/

  • @ 73 iamtylerdurden1 – Well said man…I couldn’t agree more.

  • pretty ridiculous that lumines is on sale and didn’t make it in here and terraria did when its not even discounted. if i hadn’t seen it on a forum i frequent i would have completely missed it.

  • Is this sale US only im from Australia

  • is Ragnorak worth getting? It’s worth noting I’m absorbed in Bravely Default and about to start Tales of Symphonia…

  • These sales are amazing wld have been better if they announced the vita slim release date or even actually released it same day,as a 1st time ps vita on coming owner am pretty disappointed that and its been lng enough jst release the vita slim already b4 i die thnx for the grt discounts bt nt purchasing any other ps vita games “already purchased need for speed most wanted and walking dead” unless its release date is confirmed!

  • Already preordered the vita slim please announce the release date and when are these discounts ending? Sm of us are 1st time vita owners thats if it even gets release its been lng enough #SONY jst release

  • KinkyWizard420, wait for the upgraded version that will be released very soon.

  • When does this sale end? I want to get Ragnarok Odyssey and Injustice for PS4, but I might only have room in my wallet for one if they both end at the same time.

  • @94 Store always updates Tuesdays.

  • Bring back the Final Fantasy sales! :O

  • Lots of awesome deals!!!
