Hey everyone! I’m Corey Rollins from Klei Entertainment, and I’m here to talk about our newest PS4 downloadable game: Don’t Starve. It’s available today on PlayStation Store for $14.99 and it’s free for PlayStation Plus.

If you’re new to the game, Don’t Starve is an uncompromising wilderness survival game full of science and magic. While there are many unique characters to discover and unlock along the way, you’ll start as the gentleman scientist, Wilson. After being lured with infinite knowledge by a demon named Maxwell, Wilson finds himself trapped in a mysterious and unforgiving world. Wilson must learn to exploit his environment and its inhabitants if he ever hopes to escape and find his way back home.

Don’t Starve is a game that gives no instruction, and forces players to adapt or die in the process. And oh my, die you will! After every death, a new world is procedurally generated, and you’ll find yourself scrambling to gather resources, explore the world, encounter bizarre creatures, and play your own way to unravel the mysteries around you.

One of the biggest features of the console edition is the inclusion of every single update since the game’s PC launch. After Don’t Starve’s original release, we committed to releasing regular content updates every 3 weeks for 6 months. In the PS4 version you’ll have them all right from day one, including the massive Caves update and the discoverable “Adventure Mode” which will let you embark on a journey through multiple randomly generated unique worlds in an effort to escape.

Alright folks! You’re ready to begin your quest as esteemed intrepid explorers and champions of science! We’ve poured a ton of love into this game and developed it alongside a vibrant community throughout the beta and post release content updates.

    Hey SOny today its for Sale Tis game only 14.99 for Ps4 i hope you change this error of price to PlayStation Plus member its free say the game. And you throughout a video to confirm that GAME COME OUT in January FREE GAMES Ps4 DONT’S STARVED FREE WITHT PSN PLUS MEMBER ONLY AND NOW GET PRICE. And the instruction in PSN says this is FREE ONLY PLUS MEMBER Ps4, change the policy.

      The game just hit the PSN, and the sale / discount for PSN+ members should be coming soon. The whole process take a little time, but it will be free today!

      PSN has to update all of the new games, remove the old ones, then puts the discounts on. For the past few updates they’ve been hitting around 2PM PST as their target. Could be sooner. It kind of “rolls out”.

    Its on the store now but its not saying anything about free for ps plus on the store only option is to buy for $14.99 when i got ps plus…

    did not like minecraft or terraria at all. tried this and really liked it as i hurd ppl comparing this to them. to bad its ps4 only. BOOOOOOO

      Yeah, we couldn’t arrange a PS3 version as well. We’re looking at the possibility of a true Vita version, but we’re not sure if it can happen yet. We’re looking in to it though. Either way, thanks so much for checking it out. Glad you liked it!

    I heard you have plans to do DLC for the game. Is that something that would have to be paid for or included as a free update? I understand if you can’t answer that right now.

      I’m not sure about pricing / timing just yet. But what I can confirm is that more development and content is happening for both PC and PS4. Once we know a bit more we’ll post some updates on @klei on twitter, our community forums, and Facebook. We’re usually pretty open with stuff like that, we just want to make sure it’s all 100% locked down first.

      I think it’s really neat, I’m excited to see how it works. I wish my city (Vancouver, BC) had more public WIFI spots so I could personally take advantage of streaming services like PlayStation Now. It’s getting better though.

      PS4 version has optimized PS4 controller support, Trophy support (some cheeky ones that poke fun at “Trophies”) and the biggest thing, new players can get every single update from April 23’rd 2013 PC release to the most current version right away.

      We do have more content planned for both PC and PS4, but I don’t know the timing, details and pricing just yet (some might be free, some might be paid DLC). I’d expect us to be able to answer that stuff in the next month or so. But for sure, more stuff!

    Ooooooooh the wait is painful. I’ve been anxiously awaiting this game since it was announced it was coming to PS4. Finally, a game to scratch that survival itch I’ve had for years!

      No problem! I was happy the invited me to be write this blog post and be able to comment and reply with everyone. Don’t Starve was built heavily on fan feedback. The game would not be what it is today without all the players who talked openly with us in the Beta on our forums, Twitter and Facebook. I agree it’s rare for most companies to reply to stuff. At Klei, I try really hard to answer every single question we get personally. I’d want a response if I was the one asking :)

      For announced games, I know it’s cross platform, but Watch Dogs is on my list. Something PS4 specific, I’m excited to see if they continue Uncharted. Uncharted 1 2 and 3 are some of my favourite experiences on PS3. I’m pretty down for adventure / action games myself.

      No problem! I hope everyone enjoys it. We’re usually pretty open with our inner workings, but I have no idea what the agreement with Sony was, I didn’t personally see the PSN+ agreement. It was locked down before I was in on those chats.

      It does! There’s some cheeky ones that poke fun at “trophy hunting.” We originally left them out of the PC version as a design principal, in Don’t Starve we never want to tell you what to do. However, they’re required to be published on PS, so we think we found a happy balance with what’s there.

      Tomorrow is our EU release! We couldn’t line it up on the same day as NA, but it’s coming. JPN store will see it in the next 2 weeks as well. Not sure on the timing though. EU 100% tomorrow!

    thanks Corey for your replies and a very nice game !! im waiting since i saw my friend playing it in his PC..wishing to buy it and suddenly you anounce “PS4 version” i was OMG THIS CAN NOT BE HAPPENING.. and then… FREE FOR PS PLUS… omg…. you’re the best… so since then im waiting like 6 months or so haha…
    now a “non free ps plus question” haha
    Will the game be getting content updates or add ons after release?? or just this that includes all the pc content?

    Played the crap out of this game on PC. Can’t wait to be able to lay back relax with a controller in my hand and have something to throw through my tv screen when I die after hours of gathering and building. Hurry up PSN!!!

    I have been dying to play this game ever since I saw and read the reviews for the PC version. Can’t wait to immerse myself and play this. Unlike most, I LOVE the no-holding-hands gameplay and perma-death this game employs.

    I just have two questions that I really hope you would answer.

    1. Will we EVER see Mark of the Ninja on a Sony console PS3/PS4/Vita?

    2. So will there be an Eets sequel anytime in the future? LOVED that game, one of the few games my sons and I played religiously together.

    PLEASE ANSWER THIS.

      Alas, unlike Don’t Starve (and Eets) which we self-published on our own, that game was published with Microsoft, so the odds of it coming to any non MS platform is slim to non.

      2. So will there be an Eets sequel anytime in the future? LOVED that game, one of the few games my sons and I played religiously together.

    who dropped the ball last week and didnt put up a proper sale? having ps+ doesnt equate to other sales being lackluster or flat out garbage. when compared to the EU, the US store last week was a joke. wait there was but it was all recycled garbage? happy new year! fail!

    youre a global company! act like it!

    feel like takin a dayoff/weekoff, have someone capable fill your shoes. people in the states celebrate new years eve as well. but apparently only other regions got a proper sale. are you people just sitting on your laurels?

    just because you throw the ps+ members some lackluster vita title to the IGC doesnt mean youve given any regard to the “sale” of the week overall. did that garbage vita title just fall into your laps or something. every week used to have new sales and good ones at that. now its just recycled garbage. maybe one week a month has something of worth it on sale. you people must have a good sense of job security. all i see week after week is self-serving back-patting on these lazy store updates.

    i used to be able to count on the us psn to have a good sale every week. now the only thing i can count on from the psn update is 3 separate store blog updates, 2 weeks a month with recycled garbage claiming its a sale, and some weeks where its clear you people are sleeping on the job. get whoever works on the EU psn and have them show you what a proper sale week should look like.

    I downloaded the game 4 minutes ago and…Nothing, says i don’t have a licence to play ? What’s going on ? I’m paying for PS Plus and its the first time i get that error.

    go to your settings and somewhere in there it says restore licenses
