Update: Watch_Dogs has a new release date in 2014. Due to this scheduling change, it will not be included in the upgrade program at this time.
As announced during PlayStation’s Gamescom press conference, there will be a simple way to upgrade to the PS4 digital version of four select games, for a low discounted price, when you buy the PS3 version of those games. Here are the full specifics so you’re set for November 15th — click here for full step-by-step instructions.
Assassin’s Creed IV Black Flag, Call of Duty: Ghosts, Battlefield 4, and Injustice: Gods Among Us Ultimate Edition are the supported titles for this program. When you buy the Blu-ray Disc or digital version of these select PS3 games, for a limited time, you will receive an entitlement to download a PS4 digital copy of the same game from PlayStation Store when it becomes available, at the discounted price of $9.99.
Gamers who purchase a PS3 Blu-ray Disc of these four games will find a code packed into the PS3 version that they can redeem on PlayStation Store. To play the PS4 version of the game when it becomes available, you’ll need to insert the original PS3 disc in your PS4 to activate and play the PS4 version, so hang onto that PS3 disc!
Gamers who purchase the digital version of any of these four games will not need to redeem a code to receive their PS4 versions. When your PS4 arrives, just look for the PS4 version of the game on PlayStation Store – it will appear on PlayStation Store on your PS4 for the discounted price of $9.99. Just purchase it and start playing!
For those of you who purchase the PS3 disc version of the games, you do not need a PS4 system to redeem your code, so feel free to redeem it as soon as you pick up your PS3 copy — you can download your digital copy later when your PS4 arrives.
But don’t wait: This program lasts for a limited time. You’ll need to redeem your code and make the purchase before January 31st, 2014 (for Assassin’s Creed IV and Watch_Dogs), March 28th (for Battlefield 4), or March 31st (for Call of Duty: Ghosts) in order to participate.

Nice! Will these only be playable on PS4 by the username that unlocked them or any username setup on that particular system? Or maybe only by that Master account and all its Sub accounts? Etc…
This basically means the ps4 is backwards compatible, they just can’t afford to let you use your old games. They just charge you as much extra as they can
@49 the time limit is for when you need to redeem the code by.
redeem ps3 code for ps4 game the day u get the ps3 disc.
eventually get a ps4, download the digital version and as long as you still have the ps3 disc, you can play the ps4 version with the ps3 disc in the ps4.
so ……pay $70 or be patient for a couple of weeks and pay $60 ….hmmm ill wait
common Blizzard
oh si baby!!!!!

The PS4 supports bluray, so a PS3 bluray disc will fit the PS4.
However, the the PS3 and PS4 have different architecture and the devs would have to make their code compatible to each system, so that’s the difference and the price they’re charging. (remember how the devs kept saying PS4 is so much easier to develop for than the PS3 had been ?)
I read today that Gaikai will bring PS3 to the PS4 and other devices down the road, but not on launch day.
I have a question. Would we be able to play PSN games that were downloaded on the PS3 on the PS4?
So everyone has to repay for games they already own….again. This is exactly why I waited almost two years after the PS3 came out before I bought it. It’s ridiculous to force people to pay more money to play a game they already own. I was really hoping you guys would shy away from this nonsense with a new system. Giving rich people an easy way to play their old games while the rest of us who can barely afford to even buy the system are stuck hoping our PS3 doesn’t fall apart cuz when it does….we’re screwed. I’m sure everything I downloaded to my PS3 I will probably have to pay again to have downloaded to my PS4.
Why would I have to pay for a game three times to keep enjoying it? Why can’t you guys start thinking about the gamers that enjoy the older games as well as the new ones? Not everyone has money just falling out of their pockets…
I’m not sure this was the best idea. Why is the PS3 disc going to be needed for a game like BF4 where the player count and map size varies between PS3 and PS4.
So if i download a game from PSN and then download the next gen upgrade, Will the old version stop working????
Any news on how the PS4 will count towards our Activated System usage?
I’m sort of confused, from how I read it, if you buy the digital version for the ps3 you still have to pay the $9.99 to get the ps4 as well afterward, but if you get the physical blu-ray for the ps3 then it’s free for the ps4 since it will “rip it” basically?
Will this hinder the graphics at all if we have to have the PS3 disc in the PS4
Not at all
