The Drop: Week of June 24th 2013 New Releases

On PS3 comes Deadpool, the new action game starring “the merc with a mouth.” PS3 and PS Vita owners get to revel in the gruesome delights of Hotline Miami, featuring Cross Buy and Cross Save, while PS Vita owners get the definitive edition of a classic with Muramasa Rebirth.

Enjoy this week’s The Drop!

Deadpool

(PS3) — “Some of you may know me as the Merc with a Mouth (or the mercenary for hire), what can I say? I have skills! (You know who else has skills?) High Moon Studios has skills, and I hired them to make my game, because they’re awesome, and so am I. But they’re not as awesome as I am, if that’s what you’ve heard.”

Ride to Hell: Retribution (Blu-ray, PSN) — Ride to Hell: Retribution is a no holds barred brawler set in the tumultuous age of the 1960’s. A lone rider, Jake Conway, is locked in a battle to the death against a ruthless gang of bikers called The Devil’s Hand. Jake will employ any means necessary to enact his vengeance: weaponizing his environment, using hand-to-hand combat on foot, and battling it out in high-speed shootouts on Jake’s custom hog.

Hotline Miami

(PS3 & PS Vita) — At $9.99 on PlayStation 3 and PS Vita and featuring Cross Buy and Cross Save, the teams at Dennaton Games, Abstraction Games, and Devolver Digital have reproduced the fast-paced gameplay and super tight controls of the original game. The PlayStation versions of Hotline Miami will also have an exclusive new mask designed by Abstraction and Dennaton Games: Russell the raging bull.

Mura

Muramasa Rebirth

(PS Vita) — Enter the visually powerful and colorful world of Muramasa! Face deadly enemies as they follow your every step. Become Momohime or Kisuke as they journey through ancient Japan fighting samurai, ninja, monsters, and evil spirits. Redesigned for the PlayStation Vita system, Muramasa includes hi-res graphics, enhanced controls, a complete relocalization in English, and more!

Magic 2014 Duels of the Planeswalkers — (PSN) Sealed Play and a new take on the popular Slivers creature type will both make their debut in the Duels of the Planeswalkers franchise with Magic 2014. The addition of Sealed Play will allow players to open booster packs and build decks to play against the AI and other players. Each sealed pool is comprised of 84 cards, mimicking paper TCG booster packs. The PvE experience includes a six-deck ladder where players take on mono-colored Sealed decks each corresponding with a particular Planeswalker, and finally facing a ‘boss’ Sealed deck.

Pool Nation — (PSN) Pool has never looked this good, even in real life. Your cue reflects in the back of the white ball as you perform a sublime jump shot, banking on the side of the table before dropping your target into the pocket to perform the perfect pot. Pool Nation makes the classic game of pool eye-wateringly beautiful to behold. With a variety of table covers that range from the conservative, right through to the downright outrageous, Pool Nation will be as much a treat for your eyes as it is to play.

Spartacus Legends — (PSN) Spartacus Legends is a fighting game that follows the journey of gladiators, from gut wrenching training to raw, visceral combat in the arena, usually ending in death. Featuring thousands of ruthless weapon combinations and a robust skill system, Spartacus Legends allows you to customize your gladiators and mercilessly dismember your enemies, limb by limb. Challenge your friends, your foes or the world-wide leaderboards, online or offline, to forge your destiny and fight for your house honor. Two men enter the arena, will you come out alive?

Motorbike — (PSN) Motorbike is a 2.5D stunt bike trials game in which you use the controller to accelerate and balance while traversing ramps, hazards, and other obstacles. The game features 80 original tracks, thousands of online courses (yes, you read that right, thousands), and 40 exclusive tracks immediately available for download. Motorbike also includes an intuitive and easy-to-use Track Editor, which contains all the same tools we used to create the original levels.

  • Farming Simulator GOTY 2013…!

    <.00000000000000000000000000001 % Chance.

  • I agree with @43. Where are the rest of my PS1 classics? I want to play something other than Final Fantasy games on my Vita. Would also be nice if you guys updated the PSP game list for the Vita as well.

  • @43 Some of the games you listed are available. I have them from the store, in fact, and they play great.

  • CRASH BANDICOOT AND SPYRO FOR PS VITA!

  • For this weeks Drop, I feel like I busted open a piñata that only had two pieces of candy in it.

  • There is an EXTREME LACK OF DEADPOOL LOVE in this comments section!

  • Hey how about a good drop of the week FIX the dam issues that the 4.45 update has caused to user with larger hard drive. Drop the 4.46 update this week!

  • Meh. No RPGs this week. And since White Knight Chronicles got flushed down the toilet last week, I’m just losing my faith in gaming on the whole. FFXIV would be nice… if I could afford the hit to the wallet every month (I have a hard enough time just keeping internet access).

Any recs for a non-sub high-fantasy JRPG MMO on the PS3? Oh, right… there aren’t any- anymore.

    /forever bitter

  • DEADPOOL!

  • @56 They will. Just not today.

  • Spartacus Legends free to play ? atleast thats what im getting from the trailer. hope so would be kool. hot line miami and pool nation been on my list. man i might have to get both now.

  • Ok, if I wasn’t saving up so hard for a second PS3, I would go for Deadpool!

  • @ 43 you should check the PS store sometimes. Crash, Spyro, Soul Reaver, and Silent Hill are already ported in the classic section.

  • i’m getting muramassa rebirth and hotline miami for ps vita this week, and please do ps2 classics on ps vita will be awesome and akysis please bring blazblue chonophantasma for ps vita thanks

  • @52 you probably mean the PS3/PSP store, PS Vita has less PSOne Classics on the store =/

  • Got a question, when will the pre-order for FF14 will be on the psn ?

  • Warship Gunner 2? Man, I really enjoyed playing that on the PS2 back in the day. Still have my actual copy. With Hotline Miami, Muramasa, Tiny Tina dlc and WG2…Its almost too much to get in one freakin’ week.

  • good times in store for vita owners this week!

  • Quite the interesting drop!

  • Muramasa Rebirth Blessing of Amitabha Edition preordered ASAP!

  • It would be nice to know what’s coming to the Instant Game Collection a week before the next month.

That would give us something to look forward to before that month actually starts.

    just a suggestion

  • Farming simulator ….awesome. I know farming simulator 2013 is coming out for the PS3 this year, any news on a demo for the ps3?

  • for all you about crash and spyro on ur vita just download it on a ps3 but don’t install it connect vita to ps3 then tranfer to vita work with MGS

  • @72

    1. YOU CAN INSTALL IT ON PS3 AND STILL TRANSFER IT TO VITA. Why? Because if you notice, it doesn’t delete the install file!!

    2. Not everybody who has a PS Vita also owns a PS3…

  • You forgot to include the prices. Just, take your time when updating this page. When we get in a hurry is when we tend to forget things.

  • Again, no Crash or Spyro for Vita.

  • @72 It works with MGS but not with Spyro and Crash. I tried. I have MGS on my Vita because of this but Spyro and Crash are still a no-go.

@75 I agree but at this point I wouldn’t expect it to ever happen. If they were going to do it, it probably would’ve been done by now. Probably our only chance of ever playing these games on our Vita now is with the Playstation Cloud service in 2014 or 2015. And even then it’s a big maybe. One can only hope :/

  • @74 They add the prices on Tuesday’s Store Update.

  • Btw everyone Cytus comes out for psmobile this week :)… How can Sony not mention that!!!! Grr

  • want more vita games!! xD i can’t wait for the walking dead on vita.. anyone knows when it’s coming?

  • RandomOnlineDude

Are we ever getting Crash and Spyro for the Vita? I’m still wondering why Europe does and we don’t.

  • In general, I agree with people on PSone Classics and PSP games on PS Vita store. We’re moving toward year two of the system’s life. All games on PSN (PSone Classics and PSP, and Minis) should all be on PS Vita’s storefront by now.

Stop slacking. I don’t check the PS3 for things I want to buy on my Vita. I check the Vita. Same thing with the webstore. Both things, by the way, are slow as… something slow.

    Get it together.

  • Anyhoo, Yay our first taste of Vanillaware on PS Vita. Hope Muramasa does well and we get even more on PS Vita in the future from them. I’d love more ports of their games on Vita. Can’t wait for my LE to get here. :D

I fear Deadpool will suck, since I haven’t really seen much footage of the game itself. I was looking forward to it and hoping it would, quality wise, at least match The Amazing Spiderman (which was super fun, and I got the plat. for)

But since we saw way more on Spiderman before release, I worry this game is all style and no substance.

  • @81, you make an excellent point. While Sony claims that they are taking the Vita seriously moving forward, you would think that at this point, they would make the entire PS1 and PSP libraries available. Another thing is that week in and week out, people are constantly clamoring for Crash and Spyro to be playable on the Vita. With that being said, Sony also claims to take peoples’ feedback on these boards seriously, yet they have done nothing about this. Aside from the PS1 games, there are still plenty of PSP titles that I would like to see playable on the Vita, that still aren’t available on the store at all. Games like Final Fantasy PSP, Star Ocean 1&2, and Brave Story: New Traveler are tops among them.

  • @79 I don’t recall seeing a release date. Just wait.

@83 You think they magically work right out of the box?

  • Deathstation1990

Will you guys ever add Tales of the Abyss or Star Ocean Til the End of Time to PS2 classics I would really love to play those

  • Deathstation1990

and to everyone who is complaining about playing spyro and crash on your vita just download the game onto to your ps3 then import it from your ps3 to your vita

  • @43 Don’t even bother trying to request R-Type Delta, that game is been on PSN before and has been taken down along with R-Types last year.

@86 That doesn’t work. If you guys really want Crash on your Vitas, go buy Crash Tag Team Racing for PSP and do the same method Deathstation1990 asked you to do. As for Spyro, your on your own.

  • I had no idea That stores do not carry PSP’s any more and whats worse mine finally broke after 4 years of service. might move to china or some 3rd world country to get my PSP back. I got a good laugh!!!

  • @35:
Deadpool, Poolnation, Deadnation. Be careful with the google.

  • I will be honest, if I am looking for PSOne classics or PS2 games to be ported, I want the Deception series. These have always been my favorite. That and Clock Tower. I would love to play them on the Vita. I may have to create my own soon if we cannot get them ported.

  • I already pre-order Muramasa Rebirth Blessing of Amitabha Edition…

  • Crash and Kingdom Hearts UMD made for download on vita, please.

  • not enough demos. there are a few things im interested in, but no demo. not as much chance. watching videos online is something, but getting a hands on trial can really sell a game.

sucks that maitence is going to be going on the same day, why not do the maintence today? or the day after. Sony has a poor enough track record for getting releases on time as it is, adding things to the mix of delays is not a good idea.

  • DARKWINGSREVENGE

please can someone tell me when the lightning returns final fantasy xiii demo comes out ive been waiting so long

  • Peggle is no longer available on the PSN. Was it pulled? If you do a search it won’t come up and there are no options to purchase it or download it. Can this get fixed? I was recently turned on to it by a friend and I would like to get it. Can you look into this? Thanks!

  • @84, are you calling me stupid, or even worse superstitious, spouting bull about magic? Why don’t you try saying it to my face instead of hiding behind your computer? What I was saying was that all of the games in question have been available for years now. In all of that time, you would think that they would find the time to make them available on the store. The Vita has been out now for going on 18 months, once again, in all of that time, you would think that they would find time to make all of the classics available. But also, remember that Sony originally said that PS1 and PSP games would be available at launch, then it was a few weeks after launch. We ended up having to wait for close to a year, and more haven’t been added in a few months. In fact, I was reading on a message board a while back that some hacker was able to figure out how to play PS1 games on his Vita long before Sony ever figured out how to do it. Being the multi-national, multi-billion dollar corporation that Sony is, one would think that they would be able to find someone to figure these things out sooner rather than later. But like I said in a previous post, Sony isn’t exactly known for their outstanding customer service, now are they?

  • Oh YES Warship Gunner 2 are you kidding me?? Awesome!! Loved that game! Def going to pick it up, I hope this means Koei will be releasing more of their games on there, I’d looooooooooove to have Samurai Warriors 2.. Koei plz

  • Is Deadpool gonna have a digital version release?

  • Oh my gosh. Really can’t wait for Magic 2014!!
