Coming later this evening is the next system software update for PS Vita. We’ve listened to your feedback and have included many improvements to make your PS Vita experience much more enjoyable, such as adding a new folder system that allows you to organize your games and apps.
Here’s a look at some of the new enhancements you can expect with software update v.2.10:
- Create folders to more easily manage your favorite application icons on the home screen, with up to 10 icons in each folder and a maximum of 100 on the home screen (including icons inside the folders).
- Verify which PS Vita card you are using by looking at the home screen’s info bar. You can also save the layout of your home screen icons in the memory card.
- Added video support allows you to play videos within the browser (memory card required; some videos are not supported).
- New email enhancements allows you to view HTML messages, add multiple email addresses to your contacts, and easily search your messages using the new search feature.
- PlayStation Plus members will be able to automatically update PlayStation Mobile format software and upload game save data onto online storage using 3G connection.
- New “Mute Automatically” option will mute your PS Vita speakers when your headset is unplugged and pause your music when using the music app.

Just got my Vita two days ago; this might make the rather disappointing interface worthwhile. Sad to say that I miss the XMB!
Has there been any thought put into making the new Playstation Store compatible with the Vita, either natively or through the PS3 on Remote Play? Also a “Send to Vita” button on the PS3 Store would be beneficial (sort of like the way Google Play operates if you have multiple devices).
Just to join in with other peoples’ more bizarre requests: Any work on Android App Emulation? Given that there is some way to run games on both platforms (see Playstation Mobile), it would be nice to see a way to run TuneIn, BeyondPod, and some of the other Android goodies on the Vita.
Why is there still a 100 icon limit?
My Vita will be cleaner but I still can’t fit all my PSX and PSP mini titles due this limit!
And I have plenty of space left on my 32GB memory card that is useless due to this limit.
This is a nice update! Love it!
6) HD Movie downloads on the PS Store for PS Vita and just more video, I don’t know why you guys don’t allow us to download PS3 game trailers.
7) Update section on the PS Vita store to see and set to download all updates and patches for game apps that you own.
8) The ability to upgrade ones account from secondary to a master account, this would be extremely useful for those of us who have had a PSN account since the PS3 released and are missing out on some master account only functionality.
9) Bigger memory cards, 4 GB is not nearly enough it should get discontinued in favor for a 64 GB memory card.
10) Copy and pasting functionality would be great.

Very nice update! Glad you guys are supporting videos in the browser now, it was annoying that I couldn’t play videos on there because it didn’t support it. Keep up the great work guys!
My reaction to the first three bullet points is: Oh thank God, finally. Also, why did these features take over a year after launch??
Also, folders really need to hold more than 10 items, but it’s certainly better than nothing.

I can never figure out the fuss over ‘a memory card can only be tied to one account issue.’ If you buy games at retail the game is still playable on any Vita system. It’s not like used games can’t be played on the Vita. This mainly affects digital games but it’s a great way to control the pirating issue that plagued the PSP. I don’t mind this system because I know developers like DrinkBox Studios will get all the revenue they deserve for creating Guacamelee! and in return they’ll continue to support the Vita.
Cool… now:
1°. Bring me my new 64GB memory card!!!
2°. Drop the memory card prices!!!
3°. Make the bubbles don´t move if I switch memory cards.

Twitter and Facebook video support would be awesome! I also forgot to mention that Skype needs some updating, it doesn’t allow you to login with a hotmail account. Kudos on adding the functionality to see which game card is currently on the PS Vita… great to know that you guys do listen!

getting rid of the blue Sign in screen that appears would be great, it looks tacky and games like SoundShapes already has a loading screen within the game why force two?
I like the folder option. I have thought it needed this since launch. And the ability to view videos through the web browser is really quite cool and unexpected.
Was the auto-dimming during cutscenes addressed or is that coming later?
The facebook app could use some updating also to have it bee on fair ground with the iOS app.
I forgot to mention on my last post that I would love to see more options for when you hold down the PS Button, for example:
1. A set of checkboxes to disable WI-FI, 3G or Bluetooth individually, so that you don’t need to go to Settings everytime you want to disable them.
2. Add more WI-FI options on this menu, like available Wireless networks that you can connect to, again, so that you don’t need to go to settings when you want to quickly change from network. I know it does not take a lot of time to access these options through settings, but it makes a lot of difference to be able to access them on the fly without opening a new application.
I know I’m probably alone on this one, but I’m most excited about the email app improvements. There are way too many times I will get an email that isn’t compatible with the PS Vita and it gets frustrating. The folders thing is great too, but I like the emails.
As long as everyone is throwing out suggestions, I’ll throw in my request. Bluetooth keyboard support and a way to import contacts.
Also, is there a firmware fix to make it louder? Even with headphones plugged in, I notice it can be pretty quiet even at maximum volume.
If Sony keep their promises about PS4 – vita remote play and if it’s gonna be painless and smooth then My vita saved :) folders are great but i would like to see change of UI (BTW ps4 ui maybe so fast as said but looked ugly damn who is in charge for designing these things) Sony is always great in hardware but for the god sake we are using these devices everyday for hours so try to make UI something appeal to our eyes also something futuristic sleek
@46: Uhm…nothing’s stopping you from making multiple folders for a specific type of game. You could easily have 2+ folders for PSone games or 2+ folders for apps. I’ll give you the whole “100 limit regardless” thing, though.
Also, actual new things in an update instead of just the usual “security enhancements”? Sony, are you ok?

With 5 or 6 pages of content already, these folders should come in handy. What I really need is a 64gb or larger card, so I can fit all of my current games and apps, and all of the games I’ve been looking forward to buying. Using multiple memory cards to fit a complete library is sort of like having two bookshelves to store a library of physical games. Of course you can swap cards, but it’s not as cool for the collector as having all of your content in one place.
If there’s one improvement that I’m dying for, it’s to allow multiple region content on a single memory card. If I buy a game on the Japan store and buy a game on the US store, why shouldn’t I be able to play them both on the same card? I don’t mind terribly if I have to log out of one account and into the other, although, the long term solution is to allow people of different regions to buy content from around the world, all under a single account. Sony is smart enough to do the currency conversion. There is so much content I’m not buying, only because of the hassle of using a second memory card, and having to reinitialize my Vita every time I want to switch over.

I’m not sure how many folders I’ll be creating, but I’ll at least be creating one to house all my physical copies. I really don’t get why they don’t just replace each other since you can never have more than one “installed” at a time.

Oh right, we still need a better image compressor for wallpapers and lock screen, the current one is horrendous. I could make an image with only 8 colors and is pixel art, and then the vita would still try to compress it and it’d mess up where pixels go, and if i just leave an image as it is, it just get’s all sorts of artifacts all over the place.
It’s hard accepting such a beautiful console has to have such horrible backgrounds.

Last one! The ability to disable trophies would be nice, it would be even better if we could have multiple accounts but if not then allow us to disable trophies so if we let someone else play they will not unlock them.
Does the new online video support mean that we could possibly use PLEX? That would be great! Love the updates Sony! Keep them coming. Oh and can’t wait to download Guacamelee
What’s the point of folders if 100 icons limit still on?
For all of you asking for multiple accounts on a single memory card, do you not know why Sony has not and will not do this? They didn’t allow it on the PSP either.
1). Piracy. A huge problem for businesses who like to make money. Digital is easier to pirate than physical copies so why are you asking?
2). Having an account outside the country of your legal residence is a violation of the TOS and you all know that and signed a legal agreement about that. Yes, it’s easy to violate that, many of us do, and Sony is nice enough not to disable our accounts but why would they make it easier for us to violate their TOS? So why are you asking?
3). Maybe someday there will be a unified, international account but since no business model in the world works like this because every country has different laws, then pretty unlikely for at least the next 10 years. Until we have a New World Order.
Ok, sorry to be a naysayer but where is common sense these days?

This is nice, but could you guys maybe add an App that turns off Wi-Fi from the Home screen. Ideally, I would have liked a button or switch on the side of the system (such as the one that was found on the PSP and on Nintendo’s handhelds), but that’s obviously not happening now, but something to skip having to go into the options menu would be nice. Either give an update with something like that, or please fix whatever bug is in the software that is making my Vita crash when I try to power off while Wi-Fi is on.
Thank you. Now let us use more then 3 accounts in one vita. My main account doesn’t have store so in ps3 i created Europe and USA accounts to buy games and then play on my main account. I can’t do that in vita. So please fix this problem and make us happy instead of giving us headache trying to understand the vita. You promised for simple use in ps4 so i hope you don’t do what you did to the vita.
What? There is still 100 app (bubble) limit?
I have hit the 100 apps limit for months now, I don’t even bother downloading demos anymore unless I’m really interested. IF you have all the PS One and PSP games from your PS3 and old PSP, plus all the game icons from your Vita cartridges and then vita downloaded games and apps, its easy to hit the 100 apps, especially if you’ve been a PS Plus member since the start.
Anyhow please make there be no limit on the # of apps (bubbles), the only limit should be the available space on your Memory card, just like as with PS3 the limit is based on how much Hard Drive space is available. Its nice to see folders, but they won’t do much good without removing the 100 limit and also while you’re on it, please get a bigger memory card size out there that is bigger than 32GB.

The name “playstation vita” implies all of the notable past “playstation works,” would be featured.
at least that is how an artist’s “vita” works( like a resume for artists).
I don’t expect it any time soon, but I hope at least by the time the ps4 is in full stride that I will be able to play ps2 games on vita.
Oh, I almost forgot to ask for cheaper and larger memory cards.

I don’t really think they need to remove the limit on bubbles overall. Just make it that you can have 100 folders and 10 bubbles in each folder. That basically means 1000 icons organized in folders. I can’t wait to hide stuff I never use in a folder on the very last page in the corner!
