Holy crap, I’m posting on the PlayStation.Blog. I’ve been reading this thing for years and saying “Shut up, Jeff and Sid; I can write that better than you!” And here I am. I’ve made it. Beyond.
Anyway, IGN.com is this website I work for, and it’s the Internet’s No. 1 source for video game news, previews, reviews and videos. My Podcast Beyond cohost Colin Moriarty and I sat down not too long ago, and hashed out the 25 PSN games we’d recommend to folks with a PS3. Gameplay, graphics, story – it all factored in here. But there’s something different about this iteration of the list.

Namely: this is the last year we’re going to make it.
We’re not done covering PlayStation Network, we’re not saying nothing’s coming out this year – we’re saying that PSN games are so good that there’s no point in treating them differently. There’s no point in not letting them compete with the biggest boxed games. Journey was IGN’s 2012 Game of the Year; clearly, these titles are good enough to just be considered “PlayStation 3 games.” Plus, it goes the other way; PS3 games are available digitally now on PSN, so what’s the point in differentiating? Great games are great games.
So, this list is it. The best PSN games you can possibly buy. Did your favorites make the cut? Click on over, read the article, and leave an insightful comment. If you do, you’re entered to win a PSN voucher code that will get you all 25 games. That’s right: go comment on the IGN article and you have a chance at walking away with all 25 PSN games.
I am also told that leaving a comment on this here PlayStation.Blog post before 11:59pm Pacific Time tonight will enter you in a random drawing to score the same 25 PSN games. Not bad, right? The giveaway has ended and the winner has been contacted!
Beyond!
Congratulations on making it to the PSBlog Greg. I love lists and I love games, so I definitely love lists about games, great list.
Any chance that we’ll be seeing a IGN PS3 app?
There are some really amazing games in this list. And I still have to play most of them. I´m specially curious about Tokyo Jungle. The concept seams great, but is it really good?
Also Fat princess is my favorite title
OMG, Greg on the Playstation Blog?
Am I dreaming?
BEYOND!
Excellent list.
The way you guys presented this list was nice and sweet.
On a side note:
I used to frequent IGN on a regular basis. Now, I stay away from it.
Reason being, I’m an adult. I work, am married, have family, friends, and other hobbies as well.
Time is a precious commodity. I LOVE video games.
When I visit a website based around video games, I want to read and share about what others experience with my favorite hobby.
*NOT JADED editors, who COMPLAIN, GROAN, and WHINE. Console wars, sales chartes, complaining about this that and the other. LEAVE THAT TO THE TABLOIDS.* Please….
Just my two cents. I have the utmost respect for you guys. Keep up the good work.
Bienvenido Greg!
I agree with the list, especially with: Tetris, Plants vs Zombies and Megaman 9.
But no fighting games? uu (sad)
P.S. (… and Beyond!)
OMG AWESOME! Hopefully you will be doing blog posts more often here! After the last UpAtNoon, you earned this place! BEYOND!
BE GONE! .. -.-
lol @ IGN
Is there anyone affiliated with gaming (at least in NA) that has less credibility?
Not even gonna bother to read this, same as anything else from IGN these days.
That top 25 really is a great list. The top 5, however, are what I REALLY recommend. Super Stardust HD would be my #1 most definitely. That game never gets old to me no matter how many times I play it! Not to mention it gives a great challenge if you try to take it on without losing a life. :)
TO IGN AND BEYOND
THE BUZZ LIGHTYEARS FOR GAMERS
Well, I think you got yourselves a pretty decent top 25 list of PSN games. I personally own 18 out of 25 of those games and plan to own the other 7 one day.
On a side note, I always considered the so called “PSN” classifed games as just PS3 games. Truly the only difference is whether you buy the game from PSN digitally or physically from retail. It all just goes into the PS3 folder at the end of a fortnight.
Welcome Greg – to the simpler ways of thinking!
I think it’s a pretty fair list. Very nice.
A few quick comments about the list:
I was very glad to see Rochard on the list. Really, I don’t hear a lot of people singing it’s praises, but I really dug the setting, gameplay and especially the protagonist. Sure it’s no Journey, but what is right?
I would have scoffed at Flower being here, have before, but after playing it for hours straight just to relax after a stressful day, I have to agree.
Finally Journey absolutely deserves that top spot. I’ve never played a game that was so adept at striking the perfect mood with every minute. A true masterpiece.
Oh….and BEYOND!
So need to play these games! Also, BEYOND to Mr. Greg Miller and Sir Colin Moriarty. BEYOND!
!!!DNOYEB (reflectional reading) lol
BEYOND! Great to see Greg posting on the PS Blog. Great list and, I totally agree with the fact of PSN games have developed into a quality worthy of just calling them all “PS3” games. No need to lump them all together as a separate category.
Wow, he actually replied to a third of the comments!
“Shut up, Jeff and Sid; I can write that better than you!”
That made me laugh.
Now I have to try Shatter..
beyond?
Great list! Journey and Shatter are great games
Nice list, BEYOND!
I never thought I’d be saying this, but I’m actually glad that cheaper downloadable games are becoming more prevalent in the industry. It’s great to see that even a small team with a small budget can make games that have huge impact.
Not a bad list at all. I’ve played a good handful of the games and agree with a lot of it.
I’ve definitely been meaning to hit up Costume Quest, though.
Journey deserves number 1. I’d probably give Limbo 2 although I played it on 360 when it first came out, so I don’t know if that should knock it down at all
Who said that you can’t find your idol at the PS Blog? Greg, besides the surprise of finding you here, thanks for all the contribution on IGN and now here apparently… Anyway, just saying, you make my day better everytime I read one of your posts at IGN, love you man! Beyond!
BEYOND! Having children has hindered my ability to keep up but that is a great list! How many Journey play thoughs have you done Greg?
BEYONDDDD!
<3 You Greg!
This list is awesome!
Two thoughts came to mine when I saw this post:
One, I thought my news feed aggregator bugged out and was getting my feeds mixed up when I saw Greg Miller’s name as the post author. And two, Greg’s doppelgänger came out from the shadows and kidnapped the real Greg to start posting on his behalf.
Either way, I’m glad to hear that you guys are going to stop segregating PSN games from retail games; as you mentioned, the quality of both types are increasingly becoming on par with each other in terms of overall quality.
That being said, this is an awesome farewell list. I’m excited what PlayStation has in store for us in the future years to come!
Hope I win.
Sold.
BEYOND … oh wait its been said in here over 900000000
My favorite Greg Miller quote ever:
“If you didn’t play Costume Quest, you can go to hell”
Wow, it’s a nice surprise seeing you guys here! Beyond!
To Infinity, and BEYOND!!
Did I read phr33 st00ff?
Good list!
#4 should be #1
The dead nation is pretty cool, it is like an old aeroplane shooting game, but transform into zombie shooting game. very good gameplay, content, story, everything is just so good. Also, remember to play with your friend, must better if you can play with someone together on this game.
Sitting in the airport going home. Won’t be home on time so I am doing this on my phone.
Sweet list! Sweet prize! Beyond!
pretty nice list :) all are great titles :)
Welcome to the PS Blog Greg
Good list of games. Very well done Greg. BEYOND!!!
Here’s to hoping that the PSN, the folks at the PSBlog, as well as the crew from IGN will give us the same greatness for the PS4 as they have for the PS3. Long Live Play, BEYOND!!! :-D
Tokyo Jungle deserved a better spot on your list.
Nice List Greg and Colin. BEYOND!!!
Rochard and Walking Dead deserve to be in the top five! Anybody who hasn’t played them (probably more the case for Rochard) definitely needs to try them out!!
Ohhhh so cool to see you posting on the official blog of PlayStation!
I am a fan of IGN and PlayStation conversation xD
Greetings from Costa Rica! BEYOND!
