Last week, you took the plunge into the underwater world of Rapture with BioShock 2 joining the Instant Game Collection. This week, you’ll be busting out your shoryukens and controlling gravity with two great games: Super Street Fighter IV: Arcade Edition and Rochard!

Ouch, SSFIV was picked over Mortal Kombat. That hurts, because MK’s online scene is a real wasteland right now, but SSFIV AE (in which I can always instantly find a match without a problem) got into the collection. SSFIV AE, I have to say, *still* suffers from some really bad balance issues and a serious lack of variety online, and all arguments that there were no problems were immediately proven wrong when the most recent Evo tournament happened. Hint: Akuma won the grand finals. Context: Akuma (and, really, all the Ryu moveset clones) have always been grossly overpowered because the moveset is outdated and simply isn’t feasible to be fair today, but Capcom refuses to do anything about it.
Looking forward to the Vita update. Lumines would be a nice surprise.
Morgan, loong time listener, first time caller. I read the blog weekly. You mentioned last week that you were considering going thr route of the EU store in giving monthly updates instead of weekly. Please do not make this change. The US blog and updates in terms of delivery is 100x better than the EU blog. If anything, they should change there model to follow yours. Just my 2 cents. Thanks.

So another fighting game and a fairly old one at that. I mean i would have been okay with mortal kombat since its newer. But these old games week after week is getting tiresome.
The other game i have never heard a thing about so i doubt i will be playing that.
How about you guys put a poll up of what games we do want? you know from that pool of bargain bin games you have?
Also the weekly updates are annoying. Just give it to us in one chunk that way you don’t let us down each week.
Last, where have all the minis, PSone games,themes and avatars gone? I just re-uped my subscription in November. If it wasn’t for some of the “rental” vita games i would extremely disappointed.
Please have some good Vita games and NEWER PS3 games next week. It is the holidays and i am not getting that feel from sony. It’s very scrooge/grinch like actually.

You misunderstood what he was talking about changing to was a monthly update along with weekly updates. So the only thing that would change is a blog post at the start of the month with an overview of what’s going on in that month. Also there was a poll and over 50% said they wanted it with a monthly and weekly post..
I’m used to “LIKE” plus updates, but dint liked this one, not because i alread own SSFIV:AR, but this second game is not my type… PS+ alread gived some games I alread own before, but those games… Well, let’s just say… I dint liked.. BUT! Looking foward to the next week
First off, as has been brought up, you need to get the Arcade Edition upgrade DLC up for free along with the “Full Game” version, as a consideration for disc-based SSFIV customers low on disc space. Do this, and that’s, like, five respect points.
@129 Dang_Man – Oh YES, I could go for Castlevania: Harmony of Despair in the rotation*, and there’s plenty of DLC (which you guys should work on more DLC discounts; Borderlands’ ten-dollar DLC pack was a good example, at least for console prices) to launchpad off into, though really I just want excuse to play as Julius, who’s thankfully packaged in for PSN.
*ATTN: PS+ games are not “free”. They’re “part of our subscription”. We pay for a stuff service. Now, something like The Flying Hamster code back during Valentine’s 2011? THAT is a freebie.
@142 sagohichi – FFIV has seen two SFC releases, SNES, PS1, Wonderswan, GBA (with a revised release in Japan), NDS, and PSP, with digital re-releases of the older versions. :3
Thanks for the response to my earlier post but to respond to the response. Yes companies do respond to customer criticism in public setting. Sony may not but other companies do. Second if their isn’t some type of “here’s what were gonna do different” campaign the how are we to know not only our complaints are being heard but more importantly addressed.
I never did care for SFIV personally. But since I’m getting the Arcade Edition for free, I’ll give it a second go. I might like the new characters at the very least. Thanks for the new stuff.
On another note, I tried both Renegade Ops and Bioshock 2 the other night and LOVED both games.

A Fighter game, again?? I have almost zero interest in fighting games and still haven’t even tried any of the multiple other free ps+ fighting games, we don’t need yet another one!!
Meanwhile, on the other side of the pond they get games I’m actually interesed in playing, like Red dead redemption, Dead space 2, Vanquish, Batman Arkham City, Crysis 2, and the list goes on. Somehow here in the U.S. you have managed to avoid all of these, and that’s just in the last few months…
It’s one thing when one region happens to get better content one month, and the other region gets the better content the next month, but this is seriously getting ridiculous because it’s every single month lately.

@DonkeyKongKilla – In my opinion, it’s not really like a rental here. If you have money to spend on a game, you can easily spend it here for more. And on average, how long do you play a game? More than 3 months or a year?
Seriously folks, don’t bite the hand that feeds you. If someone says the wrong thing, consequences will happen, right? Everything happens for a reason. Maybe the boys upstairs are trying to get everyone something great while you all are complaining. Think before you all act.
I would get SF4 AE. But it is a lot of space for me. But it’s still a good choice!

To preface this I-just-caught-up-on-page-X post, definitely get some PS Home sales in for Plus. That spaces sale a couple months ago the EU had, with the Mansion spaces? Totally would’ve jumped on that.

I remember when Amazon sold PSN game vouchers… There was even a page’s worth of titles that was discounted by cents, but knowing that you could find deals on digital games outside of their sales platform was awesome. Could you just imagine if there was a Humble Bundle for, say, XBLIG or minis? But as things stand, I’d love to see FFIII here for ten, even five!, dollars. Or, even for older titles, it’d be a relief to clear out my UMD library for Steam-cheap (Lunar, Ys, Persona, Dissidia, Legend of Heroes, Fate/, Castlevania…).

what a bunch of whiners!!!!!! wow I am really upset with the PS community. Nothing but complain complain complain. Plus is only $50 a year. That is cheap for everything they give us. Of course not every game that comes out is going to be what you want but it is not just about you. Every gamer is different and they are appealing to every gamer not just you.
Are people really complaining about PS vita plus update already? you just got like 5 games a few weeks ago and what it wasn’t good enough?

Bought my brother in law a plus subscription card for Christmas. Wondering if I can take it back. Morgan you corrected me last week when I said eu got a better drop than us. You told me that was just one week eu was the entire month. So far they still have the upper hand and have been for awhile. I’m not trying to complain just giving important feed back. The goal is to get plus to grow but as long as you offer a set of customers different ( some would say better) content you’re going to have a favored market. If you want more subscriptions in the us even the playing field. Would it not be easier to offer the same titles to both regions. It would shut consumers like me up. I think it’s safe to say the other subscribers on this blog agree.

Here’s an idea that will definitely work for all PS+ members: instead of giving us crap games only a select few will enjoy, just give us 30-75% off of ANY PSN title we want of our choosing.
I’m more inclined to buy for cheap and keep the games i am more interested in to purchase, rather than wait every week to be disappointed such that my select few games wanted are not offered on sale/discounted/free/etc.
offer discounts for ANY game/dlc then all of this complaining will cease to exist!
So to anyone who has played the Super Street Fighter Arcade Edition. Do you get all of the trophies that came with Super Street Fighter IV or is it just the eight trophies listed on gamefaqs. I tried google to find out but no clear answer. 18 gigs is alot of HDD space just for eight trophies. Any help would greatly appreciated.
Great update! Have been holding off on getting SSFIV because I’m not the biggest fighting fan, but I’ll definently put some time into it after I finish Bioshock 2.

The games are not free, you have to pay for plus. I doubt they are working there best because of the massive difference in US and EU, just last week they gave EU Batman with the Catwomen DLC. they wasn’t supposed to get the DLC but the fans asked for it, so the plus team talked to the publishers of batman and got the DLC added on for free. And last of all I’m not happy about getting 3 different fighting games in 6 month while there hasn’t been a single racing game, or RPG and the only sports game we got was BLITZ, which a lot of people didn’t like.
it’s also not free. some of us can only afford so much per year and 50 dollars is a big chunk of that budget.
if you had your ps+ membership paid for you, then sure, it’s free.
otherwise its a substantial portion of a brand new game, some of us who can only afford one or two per year.
if the games have no value or appeal to me, it’s not worth my money.
and remember, IT COSTS MONEY TO BECOME A PS+ MEMBER!!!

I really miss the days of when I was legit excited for PS+ updates, when they had all sorts of cool things besides games coming out for free; like avatars and backgrounds, betas, all kinds of stuff!. Also liked it when there seemed to be a theme with the month, not just a “here take this junk, kid!”.
my 2 year anniversary for PS+ will be on 12/12/12, and I’ve enjoyed it thus far but ever since this summer when they “reannounced” it with E3, it’s been going down hill.
Started up the Full Game Trial and Demo downloads, respectively, and… I became aware of SSFIVAE being HUEG, but Rochard’s rather hefty, too. Still takes less space than on PC (1293 MB vs 2519 MB), but then, PC just feels more roomy, and DEFINITELY downloads faster (be sure to fix that up come time for PS4).
@333 Shiaoran – Oh, I’d LOVE to see Folklore in the IGC! It’s caught my eye each time I see it on the shelf. That and Mirror’s Edge (which could ride the excuse of prompting interest for a follow-up/sequel).

@422 h2omasnah- – Yes. If there’s something the Xbox has you beat at, it’s content accessibility (inc. download speeds). It’s ironic that it’s now easier to buy and queue Xbox content on a PC, but with the new Store’s layout, you’ve bumped yourselves back behind them and their “Dashboard” again.

@blakseed, it looks as though you are one of those you talk about, i tried it for 1 month free and then bought 1 year, have 1 more year sitting waiting to be claimed but might use it for EU instead.
no blakseed, i’m disabled, i only get so much money per month, and 99% of it goes to my medications. i dont have enough for rent food or fun, so it takes a very long time to save up money. i was sold the idea that i would get some quality games, and that has not been the case. re5 is a i will make but its still ancient, and a game i do not enjoy. i was counting on ps+ providing me some more top shelf games for my $40 gamble so far, and it turns out the extra 20 i pumped in was 3 months wasted hope, and now its xmas time where i have the chance to spend 50 bucks soon. i download a game, play it once or twice and then i’m tired of it. these games are not the kinds of games that i play as a gamer and havent been for a while. borderlands also being one of the free ones of quality, but still.. ANCIENT, and already thoroughly beat years ago like many people i’m sure. some games where you need to put quality time where you dont have it beaten in ten hours, or it’s not relying on lame multiplayer aspects would be nice(some of us have crappy internet)
Another week where we learn the hard lesson of how futile it is to support small developers and buy psn titles, because eventually Sony will give them away.
PS+ really needs to compensate users experiencing the buyer’s remorse associated with duplicate licenses. I might as well stop buying PSN titles all together.
