PlayStation Store Update

Hi Everyone –

It’s a good day to be a PlayStation gamer. Not only do we get to celebrate the release of Starhawk as well as the news that all future Starhawk map packs will be free (watch this space for when they’ll be dropping), we also see a ton of great content arriving on the PlayStation Store!

PlayStation Store Update

We start off today’s update with the PSN exclusive Datura. Playable with PlayStation Move or your DualShock 3 controller, this adventure will get you immersed into the game’s unique experimental narrative and original way of interaction. Experience the world not only visually but also exploration. In DATURA, the player will experience an incredibly unique scenario. As you play DATURA, you find yourself in a forest.  As you explore this environment, you will be presented with different scenarios in which you have to make a choice, which will determine your end result. It’s an unforgettable journey brought to you by at Plastic (“Linger in Shadows”) and Santa Monica Studio. PlayStation Plus subscribers will also be able to pick this title up at a 20% discount ($7.99 PS Plus price). For more stories and news on Datura, click here.

While we get ready for the full release of PixelJunk 4am next week, you may want to take advantage of the amazing PixelJunk Anniversary sale! The astoundingly unique series that has helped define PSN games is now on sale for a limited time. Get many of the classics for as low as $1, and find more discounts on last year’s releases PixelJunk Shooter 2 and PixelJunk SideScroller. If you’re in the San Francisco and over 21, you’re also invited to check out the community event happening this Thursday. Click here for more details on the event.

Note: If you have downloaded the demo for PixelJunk Eden in the past, purchasing the game may only download the unlock key. Check your transaction list to redownload the demo so that the unlock key will allow you to play the full version.

New PS3 Full Games are also now available including blockbusters Saints Row The Third and Need for Speed The Run. The insane open-world adventure of Saints Row The Third is available with a PlayStation Plus discount as well; grab it at $47.99 while the discount is in effect.

There’s much more arriving this week, including new Add-Ons like Lost Episode 1 for Asura’s Wrath and the Colossal Mayhem Pack in Prototype 2! • Great! U2 DLC free! Thank you!
    I’m thinking about buying Datura.

  • @ X1_SPEED_DEMON.Great another walking talking Apple advertisement. Just what we need.No one cares if you brought an Ipad.

  • Where is those people that chewed me out in march about the vita? You few people just attacked my rants on vita left and right calling me a troll and now look through the comments on this store update and what do you see? People ranting totally about what I was ranting about on vita in feb and march of this year in the blogs. I got comments removed by the blog team and attacked left and right from fanboy’s. So to you fanboy’s I guess we all in the blog is trolls huh? lol

  • Could we get a PS3 firmware update that allows us to add tags to games? By tagging games, we would be able to find games based on our own sorting methods.

    An example:
Add a “PixelJunk” tag to all these great games, so when someone wants to sort by developer, they can do so.
But what if they also tag PixelJunk Racers with “race”? Now it and MotorStorm RC come up.
Tag both these games with “couch_co-op” so they, Castle Crashers, and all others with this tag will appear.

Allowing users to add tags will allow for more flexibility than folders where an item can only exist in one place.

  • I love my vita, I do. But sony needs to step up with content release. Maybe it’s because my second ps3 died a couple of weeks ago, but I feel that the vita is getting the same treatment the psp received when it came out, and there are not enough games for users like me, that have just the portable system (by the moment).

  • Please Sony….remind me why I bought a vita?

  • So The PixelJunk Eden sale is only for the unlock code, but I can’t find the demo anywhere in the store.

    • Check your download history. If you’re only getting the unlock key, it means you’ve downloaded the demo in the past.

  • I”m a little sad that Pixeljunk Eden Encore DLC wasn’t on sale too.

Still going to get Monsters and Shooter 2.

  • I like the support you guys are showing for the Vita! NOT

  • Excited for Datura and the Spec Ops demo. Also might as well pick up PixelJunk Eden for a buck, since it’s the only PJ game I don’t have yet.

  • Oh and their is another fanboy that hates I have a ipod NOT a ipad. That thing cost too much. Ipod works just fine for me as a handheld. I can’t fit a ipad in my pocket dude lol. I tell it like it is. If a ipod comes out with sticks on it then the vita will be old news cause look at the app store. It is supported by gamers making the apps and developers as well support it to. If apple makes a games CONSOLE omg I think 360 and my ps3’s will go under so bad. I’m no fanboy of anything I have owned all consoles on the market and handheld’s as well. But the game and app support on the app store is amazing. Its too much and the app support for a vita is pathetic.

  • Cosmis_chaos, do you own a Vita?

  • Just dowloaded the PixelJunk bundle for $2, not bad. Cool games for the price. Also got the PSP version since it’ll be playable on the Vita soon. Btw, you can play the PS3 games via Remote Play, I much rather have the better resolution with native Vita play-ability but I guess this would do. In any case I got 5 PixelJunk games for the price of 1 @ around $8 so pretty good deal.

  • Those prices on Pixel Junk games are fantastic!

But I’m upset that we are not getting enough Vita stuff.
Why can’t the minis at least be for Vita?

  • Testing, testing, …. so now, my comments are being moderated. How nice. All I have to say is the following, if you allow pigs to take over your living room, your guests will up and leave, and all you’ll be left with are the pigs and a dirty living room.

  • But I guess to you fanboy’s I have to buy everything sony and can’t express my opinion on other devices compared to the sony devices and its features huh? You guys can just ignore my comments if you can’t handle facts and the truth on my rants. Don’t look stupid calling me a troll and defending sony all the time. I’m a ps3 user as well. I gave sony money to so I can express my opinions on facts all I want. If you don’t like it then go hug your sony blanket and cry. I don’t care!

  • I think they are waiting for E3 to drop out everything for Vita ” i hope “

  • DarkShinigami34

When will we see the other Tales of Graces f costumes?

  • It would be nice if there were a PlayStation Heroes Skin Pack for Uncharted 3, really. I want to play as the classic Helghast and Chimera

  • @ bear hawk
Pixeljunk games are the games alone, when I bought them they were the standalone games without a demo. If it was the unlock code it would say 100 kb or something for the size.

Also the PS blog isn’t really a place to voice your opinion on a topic anymore unless it’s a post that everyone favors, which isn’t going to happen all the time. You think they might’ve taken the hint that all those PS Vita users are broken the first time around? Just chill. Every single time, every single blog post. Heck if a blog post doesn’t even have anything to DO with a PS Vita do you know what the comments will say? “Give me more PS Vita games and support!” I am so glad Skype is over and done with. It was getting tiring looking at it all the time. I think everyone will be happy once the PS1 compatibility comes in for the Vita. Why? So people can stop whining about THAT on the blog as well. One month before E3. I’m pretty sure there’s a few great PS3 games to fill the gap, if not, then what about the ones that came out in the fall? Ugh. Just ranting here!

  • Well that’s not worth staying up late for in the UK

  • Free Uncharted 2 DLC, I’ll take it!

  • @speed demon
we feel ur pain dude, and u weren’t the only one with doubts dating back to launch (well, maybe around here where a lot of commenters are on sony’s jock… but elsewhere on the net…).
u are also entitled to ur opinion about ipods etc. but i disagree with you about the quality of software on apples device. sure it does plenty more than a vita, but what console-quality games are you playing? i think that is where the disparity will starte to arise. i enjoyed most of the vita launch games, did a trade cycle, and hung onto rayman and hotshots. now i’m starting to parse thru the psp library. quality > quantity. at the same time sony blew their load early and the releases aren’t even trickling. i can practically count the number of announced games on one hand.
read my earlier comments. i’m fed up too. but i’m holding onto my vita b/c it’s an awesome machine and i wanna see it succeed; i’m not ready to dismiss it yet. i used iphones from OG to 3gs, and my wife has a 4s, and let me tell you, i wouldn’t be satisfied if that was my portable.
we’re each entitled to our opinions, i dont wanna flame war, but i disagree with you on that one.

  • Yeah I’m right with ya on that mistasmooth25 lol. I’m fixing to sign onto one of mt two ps3’s and grab those to. I may buy that game again when it ever hits PSN store.

  • If I buy this discounted Saints Row 3 will I also have to buy an online pass separate, or does it come built in?

  • alien_jew_420..Bro I respect your opinion and won’t attack ya like I get attacked on here lol. I never had a iphone just a ipod and I mostly use it for my youtube recorded for video’s and karaoke apps and just mostly cool time killing apps. Yes I agree their isn’t huge like real hardcore gaming on idevices I hear ya there but they do have tons of support of cool apps to by pass time on. But yeah as a gaming machine I have to have sticks its just a standard of what I expect out of a handheld and I’ll be honest I hate touch screen crap. But its the new tech and the way they are going I guess so I will have to adjust to it. if vita would get GT5, All the dirt games and nascar games that are on ps3 ported to that vita then I’d sell my ipod in a heart beat. But I love recording my 720p hd videos with my ipod and using the youtube app on it mostly. Vita can’t compare there sad to say man.

  • more crap and then nothing at all,-smh… but its funny nfs 40 dollars, Ha! i dont think they know that people can buy the non digital copy in a bluray media used in great condition for less not just nfs but almost all the digital ps3 games that they put on sale…

  • Outside of the Pixeljunk Stuff, this is a textbook definition of a mediocre update.

Can’t be bothered to add anything for the Vita, but people can download an overpriced copy of a game that came out months ago, and Need for Speed: The QTE. Wooooo

  • Wow, left and damn right, I’m running into oddity after oddity that makes it difficult to access my purchases.

I won’t bother recounting the previous ones, but here’s the current rundown. On my sister’s account, childed to mine, I got the PixelJunk 3 in 1 Pack and PixelJunk Shooter. So in her Download list, all three in the pack after categorized as PixelJunk Racers 2nd Lap. Weird, but usable, and her copy of PixelJunk Eden is “(Full Game)”.

Then I go to mine. Since I already had PJR2L, I decided to buy Eden and Monsters separately, and see if the Pack, which disappeared during my sister’s purchase, would stick around. Well, it disappeared in the midst of adding the two to my Cart, but I went ahead. But in my Transaction History, Download List, and even the Store, it’s given as a “Full Game Unlock”. But not only that discrepancy, but the demo HAS DISAPPEARED ON MY STORE. So, all I have access to from the Store is the unlock key, for whatever oddball reason. So I have to use the DL, but it’s just one giant list of 1469 items. the key is item #2, the demo is item #1309.

The eff, Sony? Why is your Store so screwy?

  • @speed demon

word up to touch screens being stupid sometimes; for example i get so angry that i can’t use hardware controls on vita’s stock apps and main interface.

and you think racing games/sports games in general would be a no brainer. especially a game like gran turismo. then again those games always get delayed a million times anyway lol. i was disappointed that tiger woods didn’t have a vita iteration (console version launched after vita launch… really EA? how easy would that port have been) so i settled for hot shots, an inferior, but still fun game IMO.

i wonder how many vita users also carry smartphones; i will probably never use the cameras on the vita. i have another device in my pocket that’s less bulky and does it better. and phones are only gonna get nicer. my year old galaxy sii schools the vita when it comes to media/photography/apps. which is inherently part of the problem. sony can’t decide if they need to compete with smartphones or not. they have said they are not trying to compete, but certain feature sets suggest otherwise.

  • MAN! Ya’ll are killin me with “There’s nothing good. I’ll pass.” ITS FRIGGIN STARHAWK! EVERYONES BEEN WAITING FOR THIS FOREVER! Man…..

  • But in general YES the vita is a freaking AWESOME machine hands down and has those beautiful sticks but come on I had one and had to return it and the memory stick cause you guys at sony just won’t support it hardly. I mean I sit here everyday and just get that itch to go to walmart or bestbuy and re buy a vita back but man I know that the memory sticks are pricey and I’m a racer type gamer and everything mostly out right now on vita just doesn’t excite me at all. The racing games I want on it isn’t available. Get GT5 ported over and some more cool apps and a YOUTUBE app and I will buy it hands down. Its just too limited right now. Plus I worry if I buy it NOW that by christmas a slimmed version will come out with a HD camera built in then I’d be super pissed I bought the current one.

  • @Sonicfan11589
If you can get Eden, Monsters and Racers for $2 that’s totally worth it.
My favorite of the PixelJunk games is Shooter, and for $1 that is a steal. Shooter 2 is also awesome, but if you’re not sure try the first on for a dollar, you’ll know after a couple levels if you like it.

  • To all of those saying the Playstation Vita needs more support

  • @ Neomahi…. I want to buy the game but I don’t buy disc anymore I buy digital only now and since the developers did that I won’t support it and want to cry about it cause I really want it and have the money to buy it right now and the money to buy a vita and memory stick but I just won’t. If they would’ve released starhawk digital then I’d of payed 60 bucks hands down on the store for it. I payed 60 for Mass effect 2 months ago and now its 20 bucks and that has pissed me off but oh well lol. Anyways, I buy digital cause I have 2 ps3’s in the house and 4 kids and my wife and they all love to play games to and when I’m busy on my ps3 I don’t want to bugged to share lol. So I put the digital games on the second ps3 as well and do not have to worry about sharing a game disc. Digital gives us the game twice for the price of one. That’s why I hate disc versions now.

  • God Dang it, i just want San Andreas

  • @48, cosmis: I’m not saying you’re wrong, but that analogy about women on their p***** was pretty uncouth & disrespectful of women. It’s also unfair because I’m pretty sure none of these Vita whiners are actually female.

I have a Vita, love it & I only want new games, not old ones, & since I also have 3 PS3’s I have a huge backlog of PS3 and Vita games so I can afford to be patient.

I’ve been on this blog for a year, long enough to see many of the best, most intelligent posters simply disappear, no doubt because they are tired of the low-class whiners. Shame, really.

  • Check out what the creator of the Mario bros series has to say about the Vita just google Miyamoto, Gamespot

  • Hm the lack of PS Vita content is a little annoying. Cant you just port at least Tetris over to it?

  • I would totally play Eden and Shooter if they could be put on the Vita….Alas, that isn’t the case. You would think that would be a top idea. They could have sold all of these games for full price if they were on the Vita. Now they won’t have any of my money.

  • I cant uderstand why Sony sell the digital games in the same price that physical. Sell the digital games like Steam.Sony have to learn I love Sony products you do a great hardware but in software, marketing and features you are f…
In smartphone you have to learn to do little adjustment and implement features like samsung htc and iphone.
In online services you have to learn and do a full services like Steam and Xbox live.
Interface you have to inovate like xbox do and make tool to the developers to make apps like hbo, ufc, youtube, better browser ect.

  • Did you have plans to released Resistance Burning Skies Demo?

  • These things don’t interest me… mainly because I just bought sly 3

  • PixelJunk Shooter is a very funny game, I recommend now that it’s only $1.00!

  • @ la mavraich

publishers set the price on digital content; not sony. i agree it’s stupid from a business perspective, and they aren’t doing it right, but so it goes.

  • @Sonicfan11589 Pixeljunk Shooter! buy it…NOW!

  • Flesch_Eater000

i want resistance retribution and fall of man to play on the vita! i want more psp games to play on the vita! this is not a very good store update. i am not interested in any of it once again. guess ill have to wait for burning skies to come out and max payne 3.

  • At the moment I’m stuck playing my PSP games on the Vita lol can’t wait for more support / PS1 myself. But the fact of the matter is Grace or Jeff neither one has no say over what goes up on the Store. So what I’m getting at is how is complaining to them gonna improve anything when there’s really nothing they can do about it.

  • lol…I don’t think anyone at Sony even reads these comments.

    June 4th.

better impress the hell out me Sony.

    – Love the POTENTIAL my Vita has. but that’s all it has at this point.
I’m not even bitter about the lack of games. My problem, and the problem most of us have with the Vita is the complete lack of information we receive from Sony.
But I’m sure that this post- like all the others that ask and BEG for any sort of info about the Vita will be ignored as usual.

Sony- you guys are dropping the ball here big time. It will bite you in the ass.
    You get what you deserve.

    • We hear you, though I have no news for ya that I can share at this time in regards to your questions.
