PSN Gamers’ Choice Awards 2012 Nominees: You Decide Tomorrow

It’s time to make your voice heard! Today, we’re excited to announce a great lineup of nominees in ten different categories for the 2012 PSN Gamers’ Choice Awards. Just like last year, the Gamers’ Choice Awards put you in the driver’s seat, allowing you to decide which titles will be named the best downloadable games on PSN. We’ve got six new voting categories this year, bringing the total to 10, featuring the games released in 2011 that you gave high user ratings.

GCA: Gamer's Choice Awards 2012

Starting tomorrow, head into the PlayStation Store to cast your vote for your favorite games in nine of the 10 categories and receive a free Gamers’ Choice Awards XMB theme for each vote cast. New this year, you can also cast your vote online in one special community category, Best PSN Indie, and you’ll receive a voucher code to be redeemed in the PlayStation Store for a free exclusive XMB theme. Your votes exclusively pick the winners in every category, and your award winners go on sale.

Don’t go too far because the winning games in each category will be announced right here on the PlayStation Blog in just one week–on March 6, 2012–and that same day, the winning game in each category will be discounted 30% in the PlayStation Store for one week, with a special 50% discount for PlayStation Plus subscribers.

  • It really sucks that this goes off of the store ratings. Some of the ratings are so inaccurate. I’ve seen 4-5 star ratings on things that are just garbage.

The games on this list are all good but there is better in some of the categories.

  • Sony will you EVER update our download list in the store. I’m sick of having to search through over 1,000 bought items to find something I bought a few years ago or last month. It’s not organized at all. Please do something I mean all it needs is a search area’s in our downloads that separate PS3, PSP, PSN games and then put them in ABC order or by date bought. Then for our avatars and themes do the same type of separate search type engine for our them to. The way it is now its CROWDED and like trying to find a needle in a hay stack. Please fix this already its been this way since the ps3 launch and its like you guys never listen.

  • I like this because this is helping gamers work with the company one on one. I don’t have any dinero right now but I’ll definitely be voting tomorrow.
Sony should have more things like this throughout the year but maybe at a smaller scale.
Like perhaps do this again during the Holidays in December to help boost sales on the PS store.
Or to have these same types of competitions throughout the year but focus on specific platforms for specific times of the year.
    PSP games in May,
    PS3 downloads in June
    PS1 games in July
    PSVita in August
To help keep the summer “fresh and alive” because of the drought that gamers get during the summer time. It’ll help encourage buying new game titles. Steam has summer sales with game prices that are so low they make you feel stupid if you don’t buy it. Not saying to make prices that low but make specific offers throughout the summer or during the winter/holiday season to help promote sales.

  • WOW the fact that theres only 3 choices in each section, and several of the sections contain 1, if not 2 of the same game, really makes voting pointless.

I can already see the same game being the winner in several sections.

There has got to be a better way…..

  • so many good games, hard to choose :(…..

  • This list of Nominees is seriously underwhelming. Up the choices to 5 in each category, ditch Prologus (seriously, putting a $3 demo as a Nominee is an insult), Don’t have the same game in multiple categories, and find a better way than the rating system to pick your nominees because this is just awful.

I’m not even going to waste my time with this voting if it’s going to stay like this. The gamers don’t seem to have much of a choice in a so called gamer’s choice award.

  • I know a way, Start a 7 day voting for the ENTIRE PSN STORE LIBRARY OF GAMES. Pick how many games you will allow to be voted on that will be discounted and the highest rated games get sold to all of us on discount. Don’t pick select games forcing us to vote on your choices. Put the whole game library on 7 day OPEN votes. Track the votes and the 5 or 6 games that got the most votes wins the discounts the next week. That’s fair!

  • Best PSP Game:
DISSIDIA 012 [duodecim] FINAL FANTASY (PSP)
DISSIDIA 012 Prologus FINAL FANTASY (PSP)

nice choices there …. i wonder who made this amazing pick…. change prologus for Persona 3 Portable please thank you …. sheesh guys

  • What I meant by pick the amount of games you will allow to be voted on meant the # of games you will have on sale. I didn’t mean you pick the GAMES to be voted on. Had to clear that up from my last comment.

  • oh and if TACTICS OGRE: Let Us Cling Together (PSP) wins we’ll know the voting didnt count :)

  • So many complaints on this post, but yet, it is rated higher that 4 out of 5 stars. Maybe it will be up for the best post of the year, as “chosen” by the Gamers…ok, I’m done being sarcastic. I mean, if the voting isn’t rigged, I’m sure we’ll still have some good games on sale, so the gamers will benefit!!

  • Best PSN Exclusive: Infamous: FOB
    Best PSN Game: Castle Crashers
Best PSN Game Playable Online: X-Men Arcade
Best PS3 Full Game: Mortal Kombat (2011)
Best PlayStation Move Game: Singstar Dance
Best 3D Game: Mortal Kombat (2011)
Best PSone Classic: Spider-Man (Hint hint hint!)
    Best Mini Game: Angry Birds
Best PSP Game: Does it matter? the best games aren’t compatible with the Vita anyway.

How about REAL categories, that give the people voting an actual incentive? Such as best of different genres… best fighter, best RPG, best platformer, etc, and give a $10 or $15 discount? Sorry, but I won’t be voting. None of those games are anywhere near my radar. While it is very nice to offer a 50% discount, I’m offering myself a 100% savings by passing on these.

  • I don’t see Corpse Party. Funny, since it’s dominating the best selling PSP section right now.

  • for the vita dat plan to get stardust is the expiration date march 31,2012 or march 31,2013

  • Hmm, why would I vote for the games that I already have? Won’t the discount make people want to vote for the games they don’t have? For example, I already bought inFAMOUS: Festival of Blood, so I would rather vote for a different game so I can buy said game for 50% off its normal price.

  • >Fair point; but these are gathered straight from user ratings on the Store. So it’s all very numbers based as far as how people rated these games.

This is a really poor showing. The Academy doesn’t give out Oscars based on how many rottentomatoes user ratings a movie has. I’m not saying you should disregard PSN Store customer input, but you need to make some judgement calls yourselves here. Leaving everything up to “the numbers” gives you a silly award/sale like this that neither suits the customers nor shows off the PSN Store’s collection. Put some effort into this next time.

  • Again with the same flawed system as last year.

It’s pretty much ‘vote for the game you would like to buy for 50% off’. Do you not see that Sony?

Whatever. Even though I haven’t played Assassin’s Creed Brotherhood, I am voting for it.
Or my wallet votes for it…

(ALL these games will be 30%/50% off in the Spring Sale anyway.)

  • Best PSN Exclusive:
    inFAMOUS Festival of Blood (PS3)
    Best PSN Game:
    Resident Evil 4 (PS3)
    Best PSN Game Playable Online:
    Hard Corps: Uprising (PS3)
    Best 3D Game:
God of War: Origins Collection (PS3)
    Best PSone Classic:
    Xenogears (PS3/PSP)
    Best PSP Game:
DISSIDIA 012 [duodecim] FINAL FANTASY (PSP)
PlayStation Community Award – Best Indie:
    PixelJunk Shooter 2 (PS3)

  • Best PSN Exclusive: Tetris. Hahahahaha. What? Just goes to show how weak PSN’s lineup is compared to XBLA. The PSN team really needs to do a much better job of securing quality exclusives because MS are wiping the floor with you guys at the moment. I see the Shank developers just announced an XBLA exclusive.

  • Aw, no love for TRINE 2? I was hoping it’d get some recognition… and go on sale, heh.

  • Thanks Sony for following up to last year’s deal! I wish the list would be larger than 3x titles per section. Please consider that in ’13. The lot of us here will complain in not enjoying the selection or already owning these games; come on people, have a cookie & grow up.

  • Everyone will simply vote for the game they want on sale, not that should win the award. The discounts should just be random, 30% & 50%, in order to keep voting for the right cause.

Simply throw the games that come up in the list into a hat, flip a coin with heads being 30% and tails 50%, then draw from the hat and what ever is drawn goes on sale for what ever the flipped coin landed on. This could even be a stream on the blog showing us clips of the games up for discount with a couple of you picking from the hat and flipping the coins or even spinning a wheel… with Christina Lee as Vana White.

  • Tetris? Really? It’s not like there’s a shortage of PSN exclusives. Terrible decision.

  • What is up with that PSP list? You nominated a demo of an already nominated game instead of Corpse Party, Persona 2, Fate/Extra, or any of the several worthy PSP titles released in the last season?

Did whoever nominated those PSP games even play any this year?

  • It’s a repeat of the G.A.P. Nomination of last year and the year before.
Overall lousy choices, excluding Festival of Blood which is the best thing listed. Where is everything else? So many games came out on the PSN between this year and last year that it left Steam and XBL in the dust, yet the “Gamer’s choice” falls to mediocre and or annoying games that weren’t worth the time? ( side note: history repeats itself 5 years in a row.)

Also, Why Resident Evil 4? Why exactly is this even a option? Hasn’t this game won enough awards from the TWELVE TIMES IT HAS BEEN PORTED? Including the 2 Wii versions of the game. The same can be said of Plants Vs Zombies.

  • Well I said I wasn’t going to waste my time voting with it being this stupid. However, I think i will only cast a vote for the PSP game. I’m going to be THAT guy that votes Prologus. It obviously won’t win, but I hope it does so they can see just how retarded this is when everyone is in an uproar over a $3 demo for an already Nominated game getting a 30% discount! I seriously can’t facepalm hard enough at this list.

  • After looking into it a little more I don’t know what rating system they used for these games. Maybe a system of ducks.

Infamous 2 is higher than Assassin’s creed brotherhood which is higher than Midnight club in both user rating and number of votes on the psn

Also Corpse party has more votes than Dissidia 012 proper and is higher rated than Dissidia Prologus so why isn’t it up there?

Im sure there’s others, and I’m sure there’s better choices than Dungeon Defenders 3 times.

But i digress, I’m grateful that these titles are offered up there even though I’m sure there’s better choices.

  • Best PS3 Full Game:
    Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood (PS3)
Assassin’s Creed II: Deluxe Edition (PS3)
Midnight Club LA Complete Edition (PS3)

Seriously? …. what are you thinking?!!!

    Best PS3 Full Game:
    Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood (PS3)
    Red Read Redemption (PS3)
    Mass Effect 2 (PS3)

  • I laughed, I cried.

This is just wrong…in so many ways.

And I despise rating systems & all this ‘like/dislike’ nonsense now-a-days.

  • Gotta agree with everyone else. Some of these nominations seem… questionable.

Next time don’t trust an algorithm and have a person with a working brain pick them.

  • @50: It’s for 2011 games… smh

  • Not going to sound rude, but is there any chance for next year to keep it one game per category? what i mean by that is that Tetris, Dungeon Defender, Infamous FoB, and Pixel Junkies are in numerous category. it seems like a waste since what if the win in 2 or more? it just seems like a waste.

Now i know the Vita just came out, but it would have been nice if this year there was a “Most anticipated” or something like that for Vita since it just seems you guys are purposely leaving us new Vita out of this.

Other than that it seems like a good award. there are games i will be voting on so i can get a discount. really eying out Dissidia, and the ps1 titles. hoping for the ps1 games to work on the Vita soon.

  • Cool idea but its too bad most of the games that will get the discount are the ones most of us already own.

  • Infamous Festival of Blood is on Best PSN Download and PSN Exclusive, so why does it appear twice? I like some of the choices but having a game appear twice to two categories really makes me think it should’ve appeared once on Best PSN Download or PSN Exclusive just to even out the odds. Still I am gonna vote for what titles I don’t own as most of them I do, or for the ones that best deserve to win. I think last year was much better in terms of choices though. Limbo deserves to win best Indie title.

  • So.. can you vote from the Vita’s PSN store as well, coz I see no option for any kinda of voting besides the after purchase rating of games.

Adding the demo is pretty fail as well. Where’s Corpse Party, Fate or ANY other good game with a high rating that’s actually not a demo?

  • I love these awards
I think some of them are pretty obvious, like infamous and Resident evil 4 and assassin’s Creed.
Others like Tetris in PSN exclusive, Dissidia 012 prologus is a waste of nomination, it’s good but already cheap.
Alot of titles repeat themselves over and over.

But I think that there should be more categories (a few more) and 5 candidate, at least per category.
Because we had a big year last year, alot of games were released last year.

    For next year,
I think they should add best PS2 remake, with Jak trilogy and FFX as nominees for this year.(that we will vote next year.)
    Also the Vita owns cathegories.

  • @blue.eyed.slick
Yeah, I would like that, but I thinks it’s way faster just to go in the store and look it up or use the search engines in the store.

  • Best PSP Game:
DISSIDIA 012 [duodecim] FINAL FANTASY (PSP)
DISSIDIA 012 Prologus FINAL FANTASY (PSP)
TACTICS OGRE: Let Us Cling Together (PSP)

Really? Dissidia 012 Prologus is being considered separately?

  • I could definitely use a discount on the Sly and God of War Collections!

  • So how do you vote? I am in the Playstation Store, and I see nothing about the Gamers Choice awards, or anything about voting for the games. Is the store just not updated yet?

  • lol @128 “a system of ducks” lol. i wouldn’t mind Mass Effect 2 being nominated for best full game, or RDR even tho i got RDR already when it was discounted. it’s just flawed

  • Kinda weak that one title is in more than one category. What if it wis both categories? Double discount? The second place runner of one category is the one that gets the price drop?

And as metioned above. No one is going to vote correctly. They’ll just vote for the game they want a discount on

  • I love how all the PSone games are from Square YEAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Sorry, but i choose my own:
Best PSN Exclusive: Jak & Daxter HD Collection
    Best PSN Game: InFamous 1 & 2
Best PSN Game Playable Online: None
Best PS3 Full Game: Mortal Kombat Komplete Edition
    Best PlayStation Move Game: None
Best 3D Game: Batman: Arkham City (PS3)
Best PSone Classic: APE ESCAPE. OH WAIT… ITS NOT ON PSN! (hint hint, we want it on PSN)
Best Mini Game: Sideways: New York
Best PSP Game: Naruto: Hereos 2
PlayStation Community Award – Best Indie: None

  • i’m going to vote for the free themes, but i think that the list could have been better.

    P.S.
Playstion if your reading this here is a subjection for the next PSNGCA. Let the users nominate the games, minis, and classics. A good way to give PS Plus users to get a benefit let them vote the first week and then make the voting public(or keep it public the whole time).

  • I don’t usually log-in to post around here, but I had to come here and say something. Although I am somewhat satisfied eith the nominees, everyone knows everyone (including myself) is gonna vote for the games they wanna buy with very reasonable discounts, and not necessarely for the real best ones.

Second: how come there are some stupid choices on the list if there are a lotta better games available on the store. Two Assassin`s Creed on the same category? No Red Dead Redemption and no Mass Effect 2 or Infamous 2 for best full games?

Third: And what the heck are those two FF Duodecim for PSP best games? Wierd.

    But I will vote anyways.

  • Psss Like Ma Avatar ;p +1 VOTE

  • Long live Chrono trigger!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I already know for what games to vote :) ….. and i’m still waiting for sony to upgrade sub accounts to master. This should already be added to psn :(
