Special Launch Day PS Vita 3G/Wi-Fi Bundle Announced

With only 27 days until the launch of PlayStation Vita, we are excited to announce two PS Vita 3G/WiFi bundles. If you were one of the lucky consumers to pre order the PS Vita First Edition Bundle, in addition to the PS Vita 3G/Wi-Fi hardware, a limited edition case, a 4GB PS Vita Memory Card and Little Deviants game, we will now be including an AT&T DataConnect Pass good for one free 250MB data session (a $14.99 value) upon purchase of one 250 MB data session, and a PlayStation Network game – both provided upon 3G activation on the AT&T mobile broadband network. And the best part, you still get it a week before the official launch date.

Vita First Edition Bundle

We are happy to announce today that we will be creating an extremely limited edition PlayStation Vita 3G/Wi-Fi bundle designed to reward those who brave the cold to stand in line on February 22nd (or even those who come in the few days that follow). In addition to the PS Vita hardware, we will be including an 8GB PS Vita Memory Card, an AT&T DataConnect Pass and a PlayStation Network game all for the usual MSRP of $299. This SKU is part of a promotional offer and will sell out immediately so we strongly recommend that you purchase your PS Vita early to make sure you get the extra value!

While the system is a fantastic option, the addition of 3G-network access is perfect for the gamer that wants convenience, community and connection – basically the ability to immediately socialize with your gaming community. Using the AT&T mobile broadband network also allows you to engage in multi-player gaming, utilize GPS location-based digital gifting, stay up to date with continuous LiveArea scores and game ranking news feeds, compete for in-game achievements, engage in PS Vita to PS3 cross-platform game play, cross-game message with Party, and have access to software updates, all while on the go. You’ll also be able to login to the PS Store and download new content and add-ons for some of your favorite titles.

There are lots of exciting updates still to come as we get closer to launch, and we will be sure to keep you posted. Our goal here at PlayStation is to transform every aspect of life into an entertainment experience. We know when you get your hands on Vita you may really never stop playing!

  • The bandwith of 3G is not high enough for such online multiplayer events as 16 player deathmatch in resistance burning skies. So its limited to things like personal leaderboards. now there may be some head to head action between two friends like in Ultimate Marvel Vs Capcom. Thats not an impossibility but untill the 4G LTE model comes out in a year or two there will not be massive multiplayer online functionallity. and as for the 4G LTE model, no i havent heard anything, I am just assuming, if the 3G does make good sales, and gets used alot, that there will be a 4G LTE model eventually.

  • all i need a psv for is at work !! that way i can drown my boss out when we take a break 1! 3g is not worth the $ !! when i want to play online i will do it at home on my 60in hd tv !!if you could put it on Internet bill then i would say ok !! i have to pay for three phones already i don’t need to add one more to it so i can play PlayStation games on the road !!!

  • @148

Then explain who you can get into a match in both BlazBlue and UMvC3? I game more then one explain the last time and 2 of those games are not async like Hot Shot Golf.

  • For the “both provided upon 3G activation” part, does that mean I just have to activation the free 250MB to get the PSN game or do I have to sign up for 3G after words. Not sure what you have to do in order to get both.

  • I agree with most of you. This really cheats sony’s most loyal customers. I was really pleased with my preorder of the first edition now I feel like I’m being cheated. This decision stinks of desperation due to the poor sales in Japan. Don’t get me wrong I appreciate the added value they are trying to give but the person that choose to leave the first edition memory stick as it was is inept. They need to fix this now. It’s poor P.R to have many of your most loyal fans mad over a console that is already receiving a less than warm reception. I suggest contact Sony. I don’t know if it will change anything, but it will at least let them now we aren’t satisfied. I have already sent an email you all should do the same.

  • People who preorderd act like they cannot change their orders or something g wtf, always complaining… You have, had AND CAN change it to the 3G version and get more for less… YOU ARE NOT OBLIGATED TO USE THE 3G!

You actually upgrading by paying less.

  • Nah wait till the summer.

  • Will the first edition ps vita’s little deviants be a full retail game or a downloadable?

  • It comes out 1 day after my birthday.Unfortunately,i doubt my parents will buy it for me.

  • even if the game developers did include head to head action via 3G, would you really want to utilize it?, I mean 3G is such a slow, and spotty connection at this point that a fast paced, action oriented game would kinda suck on 3G. I mean for the last 2 years the major app i have wanted for my phone is PHONE. Half the time I drop calls or lose service completely. Whats up with that?, i could only imagine that the bandwidth for a game like Ultimate Marvel Vs Capcom, would get eaten up way too fast, and lag out all of the inputs made by the players, making for a very unsatisfying experiance.

  • Well this is certainly a surprise to hear that they’re going to upgrade the First Edition Bundle and even implement another one for the Launch of the system.

I suppose I won’t twist my emotions into becoming envious of the Launch Bundle’s 8GB Memory card. I initially didn’t care for the 3G, the case, Little Deviants, or anything else in the First Edition Bundle. All I cared about is getting the thing early because, simply put, I must have it as soon as possible.

Although it would seem, to me, like a better idea to give the First Edition Bundle the 8GB card and the Launch bundle the 4GB one. That way they would move more of those First Edition Bundles. But that’s just my opinion, I’m nothing more than a consumer like everyone else here.

I’m still excited to get it early, either way, for me, I suppose that’s incentive enough.

  • Well to me the first edition bundle is still good. Thats the one im getting… Im so excited to have it sooner so these two extra things are a bonus. Add me guys!

  • Irony that the people that receive the first addition bundle will pay for a memory stick just barely large enough to fit the at&t game they will receive and little else. That is assuming the at&t game is a full fledged title. I don’t think that info has been released.

  • Ok nice plan for the first edition but why can’t it have an new update to the bundle like instead of 4gb memory card how about 16gb? or month free of the 3gb a t a t plan.

  • @snakeeyes211 (and a lot of other people) According to the Playstation Blogcast Ep.9 Little Deviants will be a full retail game

  • @polo155

I couldn’t agree with you more.

  • i got a question about DataConnect Plan

    so on site it says:

    250MB for $14.99
    3GB for $30.00

so lets say i go for the the cheaper plan, does that mean if i run out of internet does that mean i cant play online until the next billing cycle

sorry im to new to this as im currently a prepaid user for diferent mobile service

  • The wifi is for gaming online, the 3G is for pulling data saves, browsing, communicating… It’s also for the GPS so you don’t have to go to a hotspot and chatting via PSN… People jump to conclusions when in fact this announcement is the best news in a while on Vita for me!

It’s available on Amazon as well so go doing some research. 4 you guys post!

  • Killzone79 it’s the same data plan as an iPad so just google that and see how people handle that situation.

    Good question though!

  • And the CATCH is: you only get yoru free psn game after 30 days, which means you have to pay for at least 1 month of service because 30 days after you activate yuor dataconnect pass, the new month will roll over… so yeah.. not a great deal.. I can spend 30 bucks and get an 8 gb memory card for my wifi vita.

  • @165

now dont quote me on this, but i believe if you have a contracted plan through att that if you use up all of your data, yes you get stopped until next billing cycle. however i believe that if you buy the pay to play cards that if you use up all your data, that you will just have to buy a new pay to play card.

also im not even sure if you can get a contracted plan through att for this device? havent heard anything. The funniest part is my wife works for att and didnt even know that they would be carrying the psvita on thier network. LOL so even if you go into an att and ask, most likely they could not answer your question, but from what i have read its just like any plans you can get for the iPad, or other tablet device

  • @Hanzo11

Games for vita downloadables avg around 3 Gb if I read correctly an article.

And you can always use wifi to download whereas that’s mostly the case scenario anyways with the download cap that’s in place for the PSN Store for vita if I am correct.

  • I did have a concern about the GPS, and i dont know if anyone could answer this or not. Will there be a proprietary GPS software on the Vita, or will you have to use att navigator?, because if you have to use att navigator then you obviously need 3G, as well as pay the monthly service charge for att navigator. Which is like 10 or 20 bucks a month

  • @166 i dont own a ipad, i own a android smartphone

  • Im buying a 32 gb memory card at launch anyway so its ok with me. I have a ton of music movies photos and psp, ps one and minis games.

  • To all you that pre-ordered this you guys will be pissed after a few months when they release the 4g model. I can’t even believe that theres a 3g model. Most smartphones are 4g now, so you know the vita will be released with 4g within a couple months good luck suckers. Remember it is sony after all.

  • For those of you incapable of realizing why this is screws over the First Edition people:

Prior to this announcement the First Edition people paid $50 extra to get the following things over the standard 3G offering:

4 GB memory, Case, Little Deviants, and 1 week early

Following this announcement the First Edition people pay $50 extra to get the following things over the standard 3G offering:

Case, Little Deviants, and 1 week early. And they LOSE 4GB of memory over the standard 3G bundle

This is a loss of $10 in value over the standard bundle according to the memory card prices.

NOT COOL Sony. Why do you continue to conduct business this way?

  • @Ethereal I agree but who knows, I getting the Vita for the ability to pause my PS3 when my wrestling comes on and keep playing the game I was while watching it. Or during commercials without having to switch the tv back and fourth to check if its back on. Also reason I picked First Edition was for the case and the memory card (didn’t even know if it was needed, but figure it would be like 3Ds needs its SD card) for game Little Dev or what ever, I have no clue what its about, but it was bonus figure I check it out and see what the game is. I seen trailer and it looks good, but so did Monkey Ball until I got it and i hated it, so only time will tell.

Case is a must to protect from dust, Memory now is a must for what I reading, Game (nice but not a must), I going to wait since I already paid for First Edition, but if Sony has not changed it by Feb 10th I will most likely be changing my order to the launch and using the extra money to buy Little Dev game, and get different case, but gain extra 4gb. Getting it week sooner doesn’t matter as with school I most likely would not have time until that weekend so at most I get to enjoy it 2 days before others. This is my 1st system I per-ordered, I usually get them months later.

  • @174 it depends where u live cause where i live theres only 3G available

  • Why no Wifi Exclusive Version? YOU GUYS NEED TO MAKE AN EXCLUSIVE WFI VERSION, WITH SOME GOOD Accessories AND A GAME MAYBE?? YOU WILL SELL LOTS OF THOSE! TRUST ME!

  • @ x-D-G-A-F-x only one problem with that, I don’t think AT&T has a 4g broadband, so since they teamed with AT&T I don’t see a 4g happen, Sony would of been smarter to team with T-Mobile, Verizon, and hate to say it Sprint (who has 4g unlimited data according to my sister plan) Or used 3g/4g chip that works with any carrier.

  • This is great. I have the 3G Vita pre-ordered on Amazon and I planned to get the 8gb card too. So will those who already have their 3G Vita pre-ordered get an automatic upgrade to this or will it be a different SKU. I need to know ASAP so I can be sure to change my pre-order if I must. Thanks!

  • So if I pre-order the 3G model right now, will i get the bonuses or will there be a separate model with the bonuses. Someone please answer!

  • While I was planning to buy “PS Vita First Edition Bundle” the addition of the 8gb in the normal 3g Vita is very tempting. Most likely I will drop to that because well space is nice.

  • What Playstation Game are inclued in the bundle?

  • Sounds like the 8GB card isn’t in the box. Sounds like you have to wait for it. So any games you have that require a memory card well you really can’t play right away. With the 1st edition the 4GB card is in the box.

  • Give the WiFi version a similar bundle and I guarantee you’ll have another day 1 purchase from me.

  • so if we activate the 250 mb do we get the game or do we have to pay a month

  • *reads all the comments* smh…. why sony why must you infuriate all your consumers. You make us happy when you said how cheap the vita will be but then you do stupid things like this. Sure we’ll get a (most likely cheap) case and a game that will be fun for about an hour (shame on you for not putting in a FULL game) but I think the problem is the 4g card vs the 8 gb card. Sure a case and Little deviants might be worth more money but most of us rather an 8gb card, buy our own case and spend the 30 dollars on a game that will hold my attention for more than a few minutes like uncharted or nearly any other game coming out on vita. That is why the first edition bundle is a worse deal #50.

  • Hopefully it’s not so limited that I can’t wait a few days to pre-order. My tax refund needs to get in my bank’s belly already.

  • My question is what stores will be offering these special bundles? Because my local Best Buy is not offering this yet nor is gamestop.

  • Man, hopefully Sony will correct this. Simply upgrading the 1st Edition bundle to an 8gb would suffice for me. They have 27 days to make it right.

  • @ Lara-Croft according to Gamestop website you can see this bundle, so I sure you can go in and per-order it.

  • Getting first edition bundle is the best deal because getting Vita before the majority of players is priceless. So one could say its $5,000,000,000,000.00 for $349.99. This makes FEB Vita the better deal. And anyone who is canceling their preorder over something this stupid is likely spending their “Mommy’s” money anyway so go cuddle with your blankie. Pathetic.

  • Sold. Especially compared to the $350 I was going to pay for a WiFi model and 32 gig card. Awesome move on your guy’s side. It shows that you guys are paying attention and putting in effort. Now, for clarification. Can someone please post something explaining the free game. Is it a free game from a select few? A free game with a price cap? Can I get Uncharted Golden Abyss or Wipeout with it? Is it only Vita games? This will settle a lot of questions.

  • @marlyt That doesn’t even make any sense. If they were spending “Mommy’s” money then I’m sure they wouldn’t care about the price since they aren’t actually paying for it themselves.

Really it was a poor move to not upgrade the First Edition Bundle to an 8GB card when the card is of pretty high importance to the system. Sure they are already getting more than the standard 3g bundle but they’re also paying $50 more for that stuff and still getting a crappy 4GB card. Pretty ridiculous if you ask me.

  • They should have upgraded the 1st edition to 8gb and gave the new bundle the 4gb. Everyone would get 4 more gb total and a data card and game. Same upgrades for all = everybody’s happy!

  • I love my PS3 bit I am not buying the Vita, Sony lost me when the came out with the PSP GO. I’m sticking with the original psp phatty and my PS3. If I do get one, it’ll be when it drops in price like that crappy 3DS . I refuse to spend any amount on a monthly service for a handheld gaming device, especially if it’s like the crappy one that AT&T provides in the USA, living in Canada I can only imagine that its going to be through rogers and suck just as much or worse considering how Canadians are treated by US companies (our dollar is at parity and we are still charged as our dollar is worth less than 80 cents US). Internet, PS+,XBOX live, cell, cable= done. Sorry Sony.

  • I know plenty of people have already said it but I need to speak up too. I WAS going to pre-order the First Edition Bundle but it’s hard to justify that when the $50 cheaper bundle has a memory card twice the size. With this bundle happening this close to launch, I don’t think it’s too late to change the size of the First Edition bundle’s card to 8 GB. Change the size and then I’ll definitely pre-order.

  • Also, there’s a minor bit of confusion in this article. It states:
“3G also allows you to engage in multi-player gaming, utilize GPS location-based digital gifting, stay up to date with continuous LiveArea scores and game ranking news feeds, compete for in-game achievements, engage in PS Vita to PS3 cross-platform game play, cross-game message with Party, and have access to software updates, all while on the go. ”

I thought it was announced that you cannot actually play multi-player gaming via 3G? You can only receive updates, messages, use apps, and download 20mb games. Am I wrong? If I am I’d be 1,000 times more psyched for 3G.
