The Drop: Week of September 12th 2011 New Releases

Kratos returns this week when his classic PSP adventures Chains of Olympus and Ghost of Sparta, receive the HD and stereoscopic 3D treatment with God of War: Origins on PS3 and PSN. If you missed out on Bulletstorm earlier this year (shame on you), here’s your chance to “kill with skill,” and download it on PSN.

PlayStation 3

God of War: Origins (Also on PSN) — This double-pack of carnage contains both origin chapters in the God of War franchise — God of War: Chains of Olympus & God of War: Ghost of Sparta. Both games are remade with high-definition graphics displayable on 3D HDTVs.

CHAINS OF OLYMPUS: As many who know the tales of the God of War know, Kratos, after being deceived into killing his wife and daughter, denounced his service to Ares. In order to seek absolution from his past sins, the Ghost of Sparta pledged himself as a champion to the Gods for the years to follow – these brutal crusades, in the name of Olympus, became legendary throughout the ancient world … Experience Kratos’ journey during the 10 years of servitude to the Gods of Olympus. In God of War: Chains of Olympus, Kratos will venture to lands that no mortal has ever walked upon.

GHOST OF SPARTA: Set in the realm of Greek mythology, God of War: Ghost of Sparta is a single-player game that allows players to take on the powerful role of Spartan warrior Kratos. This new adventure picks up after the first God of War concludes, telling the story of Kratos’ ascension to power as the God of War. In his quest to rid himself of the nightmares that haunt him, Kratos must embark on a journey that will reveal the origins of lost worlds, and finally answer long-awaited questions about his dark past. Armed with the deadly chained Blades of Chaos, he will have to overcome armies of mythological monsters, legions of undead soldiers, and amazingly dangerous and brutal landscapes throughout his merciless quest.

BulletstormBulletstorm brings new furor to first-person shooter action thanks to its signature ‘kill with skill’ gameplay. The game tells the story of a futuristic confederation protected by an elite band of mercenaries: Dead Echo. When Dead Echo members Grayson Hunt and Ishi Sato learn they’ve been working for the wrong side, they’re betrayed by their commander and exiled to the far reaches of the galaxy. In Bulletstorm, Grayson and Ishi find themselves surrounded by hordes of mutants and flesh eating gangs in an abandoned paradise. They have two objectives: get off the planet alive, and exact revenge on the man who sent them there.

Players step into the role of Grayson Hunt complete with an arsenal of over-the-top combat moves and outrageously large guns. Bulletstorm’s array of distinct ‘skillshots’ produces unprecedented levels of frantic gameplay and yell-inducing satisfaction. The skillshot system rewards players for inciting mayhem in the most creative way possible. The more insane the skillshot, the more points players collects to upgrade their character and unlock weapons, which then allows them to execute even more creative moves and exaggerated skillshots.

From DustCreated by famed French videogame designer Eric Chahi, this mysterious game tells of a world in terrible disorder, one that only you can set right again. Commanding the world around you as a child in a sandbox, players will help their people resist, expand and migrate so they can accomplish their quest to find a safe place in a land ravaged by the violent and catastrophic ways of Nature.

Gameplay in this innovative game is based on advanced technology that allows the entire world to act dynamically. The ground, water, and vegetation are all yours to interact with — breach a lake open, dig open a crater, set loose a lava flow … your powers are great, but how you choose to use them will determine the fate of this society.

Ferrari: The Race ExperienceThe official Ferrari licensed videogame experience, Ferrari: The Race Experience features the world’s most desired sports cars, including the Ferrari 458 Italia and Ferrari 599XX. Choose from an impressive stable of 34 Ferrari motors and race across 17 racetracks, including the street circuit Riviera and the ultra cool Fiorano test track. Players get their choice of GT Road Cars, GT Race Cars or Classic Cars. An all-new Assisted mode allows gamers of all skill levels to enjoy a Ferrari.

Elemental Monster: Online Card Game — Emerald Monster is a battle game where you the player make use of cards to summon beasts. Create your own deck of cards, then select three cards and place them on the battle field. You then select a monster to summon from one of these three cards. Each monster can be made to perform one of two attacks, or if you feel a slight imbalance against your opponent, you can recall your creature and send out another in its place. This PS3 entry in the franchise features over 10 hours of play in Single Player mode and online battles (with a pay-per-play system) for networked multiplayer bouts.

Renegade Ops (Demo Available) — Renegade Ops puts players in a mobile commando unit sent behind enemy lines to defeat Inferno, a madman intent on global domination. Defeat enemies across a range of stunning environments using a wide variety of vehicles, from dispersing electromagnetic shock waves to the deployment of a huge Gatling gun armed to the teeth.

Cyberbots: Fullmetal Madness — Cyberbots: Fullmetal Madness is a fighting game produced by Capcom in 1994 where the pilots of mecha battle each other. The game is a sequel to the scrolling fighter Armored Warriors. The game only had minimal distribution in arcades outside Japan, and none of the console ports were released overseas. Tech Romancer (ported to the Sega Dreamcast) is considered a spiritual sequel for this game; Jin and his BX-02 Blodia are present in it as an unlockable bonus character/mech.

PSone Classic

Pong — Pong on the PlayStation takes that original idea, adds a super clean and smooth 3D and physics engine, and hammers out dozens of new ideas only a 3D game could possibly do.

  • Out of all the ps1 classics people have been begging for, you decided on pong?!! Seriously? Congrats on all three copies you sell!

  • Looking forward to Tuesday, I didn’t pre-order GoW Orgins so now I can get it from the PSN store. Good looking Sony! Also if you can get them separately I’d say they are 14.99 each? How much memory do we need for these titles?

  • WKCII or GoW Origins?

  • Heck yea!! Finally White Knight Chronicles II and God of War Origins. Waiting for White Knight so I can play the first one too. Couldn’t find it anywhere. Might have to buy Bulletstorm as well.

  • This is going to be an expensive week.

    GOW – Origins.
    White Knight 2
    Renegade Ops
    BulletStorm
    From Dust
    NHL 12

    That’s over $200!

I just bought Resistance 3, still have Deus Ex to grab, ICO + Shadow of the Colossus pre-ordered in 2 weeks, BF3 in a month with AC:R and Mw3 soon after. I also need to renew my PS+ subscription in 2 weeks…

I’m going to need a second job just to keep up with everything..

  • Wow you guys must be new here. Sooner or later you’ll figure out the Playstation NEVER answers questions or give additional info about games until their right near coming out. It’s really lame.

  • I’ll be getting WKC 2 but not for a while. I have too many games already. I might get Pong too, I used to play it all the time when it first came out.

  • when will we b able to make accounts again on psn.com? plz answer

  • On the psone classics you need to add SkullMonkeys.

  • Still not sure if im buying origins day 1, I will be getting it, but I dunno im kinda on the fence on that one due to playing them not long ago.

  • when will we b able to make accounts again on psn.com?

  • I played Cyberbots: FM and thought that it was nothing more than Street Fighter’s gameplay with Gundam (well, not really) mechs and pilots.

Hell, I believe it’s by the same company who’s been really screwing us over lately (NO MEGA MAN LEGENDS ON PSN). You know, the one who’s pushing a major update to Marvel vs (uh…) 3 so soon? Milking SF4 to death? Give up? It’s Capcom.

  • i’m kind of excited about wkc 2 but the game will have to wait till i finish disgaea 4

  • Hey, Cyberbots’ PS one version had looong loading times. Is everything ok now?
Also, since RE_Player asked about the availability of God of War Origins Collection’s separate titles, I’d like to know if this will be also possible with ICO and Shadow of the Colossus. I’m just curious about it because Japan will be getting the two games separately.

  • @Tjoeb123
I always found Cyberbots unique for its soundtrack, really. The gameplay feels the same as other games, so I’d recommend anyone who simply wants a fighting game to get any other cheaper, more popular Capcom title with the same style.
However, my experience with this game was hindered two issues: the JP language (I got interested in the story) and the ginormous loading times. Maybe I will get this release, but only after I find out if they fixed the latter. The former would be impossible, anyway.

  • http://ps3.ign.com/index/release.html says Castlevania: HOD comes out Sept. 30th, as well as listing the drop dates of other games that may be of interest… I don’t know how accurate this’ll be (I can’t see the future), but it’s a good place to look, nonetheless.

  • Hey Rey, one question!

The demo of PES 2012, will be the second?

    Thanks

  • You know we’ve been enjoying the ‘officially licensed Ferrari experience’ on the Dreamcast more than a decade ago, right? =P

  • i know there’s a psp version but i don’t have a psp and really wanted Valkyrie profile on psone classics…

  • If I have to wait till tuesday to find out the price of bulletstorm on psn I’m not buying it . Seriously theres many other games to buy anyway . I messaged them on twitter a couple days ago and they wouldn’t answer and now no answer here .

The total lack of customer service in this situation is ridiculous . It’s a price . why so much secrecy?

  • @KingDublin

Hate to burst your bubble, but it’s really quite rubbish.

  • HOORAY for FIFA ʻ12 and ACE COMBAT! sorry PES, i don’t like you

  • Pong on PS was an excellent game, but I’m afraid I just can’t go back that far these days without a remaster. Frame rate bumps and what not, you know.

  • Castlevania: Harmony of Despair has a release date of 9/30/11 listed on many gaming websites.

  • PSOne Classic request: I want my Skullmonkeys!

  • i hope bulletstorm isn’t $40

  • dont jurassic park the game come out this week?
do you know if jurassic park the game will have trophies and how much it will cost?

  • Cyberbots! This makes me happy. :)

  • Disgaea 4 DLC please, dood!

  • @73 christreignz

no it doesn’t, why would it release on a Friday if PSN updates every Tuesday!!!

  • @73 christreignz

stop giving a false release date if you cant back it up, we are already panicking enough already for a release date!!!

  • so is wkc good cause ive asked for weeks and still no answer im probably skipping that due to no one answering i guess its probably not that good ,anyways im still trying to get trophies for resistance 3!!!oh and i passed r3 on hard and didnt get the trophie so i havnt unlocked superhuman and have to pass it on normal again!!!bummer plus fix the lag or patch it up!!

  • Ace Combat demo!!!

    YEAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!

    Ace Combat demo
    Renegade Ops demo

    hell yah!

  • Do you what I find funny? We have avatars from the classic fighting game Rival Schools (as you can see from my avatar, my man Batisu), but we don’t have it as a downloadable game. PSN, are you teasing us, because the temptation is killing. I have played this hardcore classic since the PSOne was at it’s prime. I miss that game. :( Now it’s too expensive to buy since it’s a rare game.

  • Weak update. And while Cyberbots was an interesting fighter, the PS1 port was complete trash compared to the Saturn port (as was all Capcom ports in that era). I second Rival Schools for PSN…but I’d much rather have it in some type of upscaled release with trophies/online play. I’m already happy as all hell that we got 3rd Strike but a Rival Schools update would blow my mind!

  • Corrections: Do you know what I find funny? We have avatars from the classic fighting game Rival Schools (as you can see from my avatar, my man Batisu), but we don’t have it as a downloadable game. PSN, are you teasing us, because the temptation is killing me. I haven’t played this hardcore classic since the PSOne was at it’s prime. I miss that game. :( Now it’s too expensive to buy since it’s a rare game. I don’t know if can speak for anyone else, but I wish I could download this game. Sure you nice lineup already, but Rival Schools would just add the right icing on the cake.

  • Pong? out of all the PSone games to add….. Pong?

  • Bulletstorm is 19.99 on PC (On steam) – so everyone please be aware of prices before you buy it.

  • From DUST, 14/09 at EUROPE PSN, 27/09 at USA PSN

  • Bulletstorm on PSN? Nice! Might actually buy it some time

  • Oh hey Cyberbots! Another Capcom Fighting game I have to play

  • @73. You’re a spaz. That’s a placeholder release date since the game is due out “In September”.

  • So what’s the policy on updating Playstation Originals? Because Spyro: Year of the Dragon has a game breaking glitch that makes collecting all the eggs impossible. A simple update to the Greatest Hits edition of the game would fix this.

  • Waiting for a review (well, a few reviews) of WKC 2 before purchase. Everything I saw and read about the first looked disappointing and JRPG cliche-filled for me to avoid, even though it was a Level 5-developed game. But hey, who’s to say the sequel won’t be awesome, right?

  • It’s awesome to have Cyberbots available on PSN! Capcom really snuck this one in without any fanfare whatsoever. Regardless, I am looking forward to buying it. It will be cool to see Jin Saotome and Devilot in their natural habitat.

  • They should put Rival Schools as a PSNImports, that way we can have both discs, arcade and evolution. And what happened to Dreamcast titles ? They released only 2 titles so far, I want project justice or Sonic Adv. 2 = /

  • Any idea when the Resurrection Map Pack is coming out for the PS3?
