The Drop: Week of September 12th 2011 New Releases

Kratos returns this week when his classic PSP adventures Chains of Olympus and Ghost of Sparta, receive the HD and stereoscopic 3D treatment with God of War: Origins on PS3 and PSN. If you missed out on Bulletstorm earlier this year (shame on you), here’s your chance to “kill with skill,” and download it on PSN.

PSone Classics and PSone Japan Imports both offer PlayStation nostalgia in the same week. Stretch out your trigger finger and enjoy The Drop.

PlayStation 3

God of War: Origins (Also on PSN) — This double-pack of carnage contains both origin chapters in the God of War franchise — God of War: Chains of Olympus & God of War: Ghost of Sparta. Both games are remade with high-definition graphics displayable on 3D HDTVs.

CHAINS OF OLYMPUS: As many who know the tales of the God of War know, Kratos, after being deceived into killing his wife and daughter, denounced his service to Ares. In order to seek absolution from his past sins, the Ghost of Sparta pledged himself as a champion to the Gods for the years to follow – these brutal crusades, in the name of Olympus, became legendary throughout the ancient world … Experience Kratos’ journey during the 10 years of servitude to the Gods of Olympus. In God of War: Chains of Olympus, Kratos will venture to lands that no mortal has ever walked upon.

GHOST OF SPARTA: Set in the realm of Greek mythology, God of War: Ghost of Sparta is a single-player game that allows players to take on the powerful role of Spartan warrior Kratos. This new adventure picks up after the first God of War concludes, telling the story of Kratos’ ascension to power as the God of War. In his quest to rid himself of the nightmares that haunt him, Kratos must embark on a journey that will reveal the origins of lost worlds, and finally answer long-awaited questions about his dark past. Armed with the deadly chained Blades of Chaos, he will have to overcome armies of mythological monsters, legions of undead soldiers, and amazingly dangerous and brutal landscapes throughout his merciless quest.

BulletstormBulletstorm brings new furor to first-person shooter action thanks to its signature ‘kill with skill’ gameplay. The game tells the story of a futuristic confederation protected by an elite band of mercenaries: Dead Echo. When Dead Echo members Grayson Hunt and Ishi Sato learn they’ve been working for the wrong side, they’re betrayed by their commander and exiled to the far reaches of the galaxy. In Bulletstorm, Grayson and Ishi find themselves surrounded by hordes of mutants and flesh eating gangs in an abandoned paradise. They have two objectives: get off the planet alive, and exact revenge on the man who sent them there.

Players step into the role of Grayson Hunt complete with an arsenal of over-the-top combat moves and outrageously large guns. Bulletstorm’s array of distinct ‘skillshots’ produces unprecedented levels of frantic gameplay and yell-inducing satisfaction. The skillshot system rewards players for inciting mayhem in the most creative way possible. The more insane the skillshot, the more points players collects to upgrade their character and unlock weapons, which then allows them to execute even more creative moves and exaggerated skillshots.

From DustCreated by famed French videogame designer Eric Chahi, this mysterious game tells of a world in terrible disorder, one that only you can set right again. Commanding the world around you as a child in a sandbox, players will help their people resist, expand and migrate so they can accomplish their quest to find a safe place in a land ravaged by the violent and catastrophic ways of Nature.

Gameplay in this innovative game is based on advanced technology that allows the entire world to act dynamically. The ground, water, and vegetation are all yours to interact with — breach a lake open, dig open a crater, set loose a lava flow … your powers are great, but how you choose to use them will determine the fate of this society.

Ferrari: The Race ExperienceThe official Ferrari licensed videogame experience, Ferrari: The Race Experience features the world’s most desired sports cars, including the Ferrari 458 Italia and Ferrari 599XX. Choose from an impressive stable of 34 Ferrari motors and race across 17 racetracks, including the street circuit Riviera and the ultra cool Fiorano test track. Players get their choice of GT Road Cars, GT Race Cars or Classic Cars. An all-new Assisted mode allows gamers of all skill levels to enjoy a Ferrari.

Elemental Monster: Online Card Game — Emerald Monster is a battle game where you the player make use of cards to summon beasts. Create your own deck of cards, then select three cards and place them on the battle field. You then select a monster to summon from one of these three cards. Each monster can be made to perform one of two attacks, or if you feel a slight imbalance against your opponent, you can recall your creature and send out another in its place. This PS3 entry in the franchise features over 10 hours of play in Single Player mode and online battles (with a pay-per-play system) for networked multiplayer bouts.

Renegade Ops (Demo Available) — Renegade Ops puts players in a mobile commando unit sent behind enemy lines to defeat Inferno, a madman intent on global domination. Defeat enemies across a range of stunning environments using a wide variety of vehicles, from dispersing electromagnetic shock waves to the deployment of a huge Gatling gun armed to the teeth.

Cyberbots: Fullmetal Madness — Cyberbots: Fullmetal Madness is a fighting game produced by Capcom in 1994 where the pilots of mecha battle each other. The game is a sequel to the scrolling fighter Armored Warriors. The game only had minimal distribution in arcades outside Japan, and none of the console ports were released overseas. Tech Romancer (ported to the Sega Dreamcast) is considered a spiritual sequel for this game; Jin and his BX-02 Blodia are present in it as an unlockable bonus character/mech.

  • Great! Im getting cyberbots but when will we ever get chrono trigger, chron cross, final fantasy 4, 5, 6, tomba 1 and 2, Mortal kombat and other ps one classics? Oh and add me guys. Just got my ps3 last month :)

  • Will be checking out Ace Combat and Renegade Ops demos.
Rey, you forgot to include the demo and full game-unlock for From Dust.

  • PSone classics needed: Die Hard Trilogy, MDK, Return Fire, Soul Blade, Tenchu. Thanks.

  • Why do you guys refuse over and over again to give any information about Castlevania: Harmony of Despair? I’ve been waiting for months for information and neither you nor Konami will put any forward.

When is it coming out? Or is it even coming out?

  • How much is the lbp2 move pack that comes out next week?

  • Come on Sony. Quit being jerks and release Castlevania Harmony of Despair already. Please.

  • God of War Origins on PSN, nice!

  • Rey, can u at least try to post the prices with each game? Please?

  • Please keep the PSone games coming

  • Cyberbots =) Interesting

    GoW Origins…nice

  • Glad to see White Knight 2 and Cyberbots this week, but no Castlevania Harmony of Despair again? Bummers

  • What about From Dust?? Its still coming out tuesday right??
And price on that 2 please :)

  • FIFA demo, yeah-uh!
Got the GoW Origins Collection on pre-order, so that’ll be awesome! :D

  • Waiting for White Knight Chronicles II European version to drop price.

  • It should be noted that:

    1. White Knight Chronicles II comes with White Knight Chronicles I in the same package.
    2. Magic the Gathering: Duels of the Planeswalkers 2012 has its first expansion coming out on September 14th.

  • Yeahhh!!! GoW Origins in PSN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I Loved!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • omg god i dont see Castlevania Harmony of Despair!!!

  • You’ll never see Harmony of Despair apparently.

  • Hey Rey,

I was just wondering if you have any news when Odd World: Strangers Wrath will be coming our way.

    Thanks

  • How much for Bulletstorm rey ?

hopefully $29.99 like it is everywhere(even cheaper on amazon) .

With that said I’m figuring $49.99 or more .

  • “With online play for up to six players, you can choose to tackle co-op quests or free-roam the game world as a team,”

Incorrect you can not free roam teh game world online in WKC2 unfortunately

  • Ace Combat Assault Horizon, Woohoo!!! Can’t wait for Tuesday!

    Awesome “Drop” this week!

  • I have God of War : Origins pre-ordered, usually my pre-orders get shipped Friday, comes in Tuesday, but it hasn’t been shipped yet. I’m worried… Been waiting for something to play in 3D. Haven’t used 3D for awhile now. Maybe, I should look into Resistance 3 as I wait.

  • god of war origins here i come

  • how much for Bulletstorm please?

  • So can you buy the games in the God of War Origins Collections separately on PSN like you could with God of War 1 and 2. I want to buy Ghost of Sparta on PSN for PS3 because that is the only God of War I don’t own.

  • I guess we get Harmony of Despair last second on the last tuesday of this summer…. sorry i know most of you are tired of the pestering about so and so game :S

  • hey rey u forgot to put red dead redemption DLC coming out on tuesday

  • Has everyone just gotten together and decided to agree not to put a release date on Harmony of Despair? Konami literally claims they don’t know what the date is. But they seem to think it’ll release in September.

You guys also claim to not know the date; going by the last time you posted about it in reply to being questioned.

But the only possible launch dates that would meet the above listed criteria now would be the 20th or the 27th.

Either you guys know it will launch one of those two days and refuse to tell us for some reason (cruelty?). Or it isn’t actually launching in September.

Why the constant refusal from all sources to take ten seconds to provide a tiny piece of information?

  • What about the update about From Dust?

  • I usually don’t leave any comments but I really would like to know when Splinter Cell Trilogy is coming to PSN for the U.S. I totally can’t wait and it’s been at least a month since it was released in the U.K. Wonder what is going on. Hope it’s released soon.

  • Why do we get a small percentage of what comes out in The Drop post only two days before the actual drop? Why not just tell us all of what is coming out so we can better prepare our wallets. Kinda sucks not knowing prices and the full content list until the day of.

  • Why can’t you just answer the prices ffs rey ?

I mean come on what else are you doing that you can’t take 2 seconds to drop some prices down for us so we can add money to our wallets . Is it that hard for you to do that for us ?

  • Can we please get someone else to start doing these drops . Rey is terrible and I’m tired of this never getting answers on this blog crap .

  • Hey, any update on FFV or FFVI for Ps1 classics? It’s been on the ESRB lists for awhile now and Europe has gotten it weeks ago! I’ve been watching the drop every week for either but no luck. :(

  • Do you know when Rock of Ages is coming to the PS3? I figured it would be this week since it arrived on PC last Thursday and Xbox 360 on August 31st. So why wouldn’t it make its promised PSN debut this Tuesday?

  • PSOne Imports/Classics like the King’s Field games and Shadow Tower, also the other Front Mission and Armored Core? :D

  • Purchasing Renegade Ops! Speaking of which, I wish I knew what the trophy list for it looked like. Game comes out in a couple days and I can’t find the trophy list anywhere!

  • @#28
RDR DLC came out last week.

  • God of War Origins and White Knight Chronicles II will make for a pretty epic week!

  • Why do we get GOW collections but we don’t get Sly Collection I’ve been trying to find it and they said that nobody sells it anymore It would be really nice if you could release each game from the collection on PSN or you could buy the whole collection on PSN. With that said will we ever get The Sly Collection on PSN.

  • I am very pleased to see the origins collection on PSN. Now, with the exception of God of War 3, I’ll have all God of War games on my PS3’s HDD.

  • “Elemental Monster: Online Card Game — Emerald Monster is a battle game where you the player make use of cards to summon beasts.”

So is it called elemental monster or emerald monster?

  • ico and shadow of the colossus collection estara disponible en psn store??

  • ico and shadow of the colossus collection will be available in psn store?

  • So, is From Dust coming out this week or not? I’m not sure whether to be depressed about the inability of the copy to be updated in the blog’s content pipeline, or if the news itself was a false alarm. From Dust, Ico Collection, and Child of Eden are the only things I’m really psyched for this month. (Still waiting on the Puzzle Agent 2 announcment like everyone else, though…)

@41, the Sly Collection has Move mini-games on it that are separate from the 3 “remastered” PS2 titles. These God of War “remasters” don’t have that kind of value-add, so they’re easier to package digitally. Not sure where you live, but it’s still on shelves here in the San Francisco area, and Amazon/Google sellers have it for cheap.

Everyone complaining about a lack of pricing information ahead of time should read some books on sales psychology. This post is to generate interest, which will percolate in our heads for a few days and reduce our ability to resist the purchase due to the manufactured anticipation. There’s also the NDAs and other agreements with publishers that can sometimes prevent even announcing a game other than via the release itself. I don’t mind it, personally, and blaming Rey is retarded at best :)

  • LOL i love how The Drop doesnt even give all the right info, or all the current releases for this week.

Rey stop going half azz about it. Either do the job right or dont do it. Also stop giving that “price can be found on Tuesday crap”. You guys already have your prices set for what is being released. Stop acting like you dont get prices for stuff till an hour before you put the update live.

  • pong psone so weird i was just thinking of that game
i hope its free for psn plus users

  • @exaclibur0123,

Amazon has the Sly Cooper collection, order it off their website

  • I’m SO excited for FIFA 12. I absolutely CAN NOT WAIT!
