the update for me was about 4 minutes from start to finish
Worked ok for me but i got a standard none modified ps3, think this is what they call ok 360 banhammer update for those modded their systems.

my system has not been modified in any way eithe and still get the error message but mine doesnt sit at zero it stops at 69 percent…….. not quite understanding why it works for most but not all

ya i’m sick of not having cross game chat on my ps3 game invites can be a royal pain, when my friend and I play on xbox live we just join a party simple and easy, game invites are a easy as hell and then when we switch to psn to play a game, its annoying not to have cross game chat, hell some games we play online on ps3 DON”T EVEN HAVE VOICE CHAT!!!!
i have noticed when sony releases something they know is gunna dissapoint people not one reply, but when they release something good, which is once every blue moon, man they reply all over the place, not really but they reply

Well, thanks for the update Sony. Unfortunately though, it took almost an hour to get online. First I was getting DNS errors, hopped on here and saw there was an update (which wouldn’t download via ps3 or pc). I was finally was able to download it about 20 minutes ago from the ps3, and then i got to spend the last 10 minutes trying to sign in (and receiving a ‘undergoing maintenance’ message) before it actually worked…sigh.
I modded my system (Chiquita banana sticker) and it updated perfectly.
If you want cross game chat, buy a cellphone or an xbox or join a sporting league.

What about chatting with people who arent even playing PS3 at all?? Let get sony to make the whole population able to party chat, regardless of if their PS3 is even online? Why is the fact they are playing a PS3 a qualifier to chat with them? Would you call them on the phone and say ‘Hey turn on yer ps3 and play a game-ANY game- so i can chat with you, then what, hang up? Listen guys Sony is doing their best to go the same route straight to toiletsville that Sega took. If they want to lose all their consumers who’ve been begging for certain games, features and the like for years. But us constantly complaining isn’t gonna give us what we’re asking for. If Sony wants to shoot themselves in the foot there’s not a lot we can do about it.It’s just a shame to see that Sony is not listening to their consumers. We pay for their products and services yet they don’t give us anything we want to pay for. It’s simple supply and demand. Apparently the marketing ppl just have no idea how the economy works. Sony doesn’t realize that if we don’t buy their products and pay for their services they have no business. So I honestly believe that Sony will be driving down Sega lane before long if they don’t change their marketing practices. theres a lot of sony people here trolling and flaming everyone who questions the party line. But you just don’t get it at all. Let me explain it to you. We are the ones who pay your salaries with our purchases. That means you work for us not the other way around. If you don’t like it then quite and take your fail with you. If you want to stay start listening to your customers. To do otherwise is to join the myriad of failed console & game manufacturers whose corpses you’ve so easily forgotton. And for the record I’m a person who likely wont use cross game chat much if at all. But that is a very poor excuse for attacking the thousands who will use it. Same goes for the many other features many PS3 owners want. But the main point I’m making here is pay attention to those who buy your product, if you don’t its your own pink slip.
@ SCEA i think you should work on cross game chat… if you can make the PS vita have it, i think the PS3 should definitely have it….. i am a hardened PS fanboy to the core… ive owned everysystem you’ve made… but id like to see friend functionality improve… work on this… thanks for listening
Half the Blog is cry about cross-game chat so if i was Sony designer or worker there. I would give them what there want and be done with it then, and cross-game chat happens or not does not brother me at one bit. All i care about is Sony going to fix the freezing’s problem on my PS3 slim and others who are having problems.
I really love to get back to my games now and play then sit up hear all day being so bored out of my life. And i am going to be gone all the next day for something at worker.

The PSVita is getting party chat yet 3 YEARS LATER we still have NO PARTY CHAT ON THE PS3?
Their silence on this topic is your answer people… Cross Game Voice Chat is not possible on the PS3 because it doesn’t have enough ram to support that process. it’s just one of the many oversights Sony made when they designed the PS3. Just like how the PS3 doesn’t have a built in scaler to upscale all games to 1080p.
The PS3 was poorly designed from a memory architecture standpoint. Yes the Cell processor is super powerful BUT it takes more than just a fast processor to support things like Party Chat or a built in scaler etc..
Sony will not tell you that Cross Game Chat isn’t coming.. They’d rather lead you on let you continue to think it is coming so they don’t lose sales to the other HD console.
Sony should give people who still have there Warranty on there PS3 whole new PS3 for free if it bricks up, or stops working right, or gets freezer up. OR there should fix it for free and if can’t fix it then give them new PS3 Slim. And no my PS3 slim is good just the new update miss it up big time and if sony listen to my post and try to fix it now and reply that we fix it so go download the new update now,
Trying to compare Sony to Sega is ridiculous. What did Sega manufacture? Take that into account while you walk through any electronics store.

Sony could rectify the RAM issue by releasing a patch that would reallocate or partition a portion of a solid state hardrive. :) Virtual memory on an SSD Is RAM.
@ 687 u got some good idea’s dude. How about if we used USB Hard Drive with SSD or SSHD, or HHD to increae the Ram more so it works. Sony should sell Ram made in USB form to increase the RAM, Called it PSRam Boost or for short PSR Boost. Its used to increase the RAM more in the PS3. Bang u got it.
For the people that say any company has a patent of cross chat/cross party chat and that´s why it can´t come to PS3, you´re wrong because PS Vita has it. And if RAM is a problem, all Sony needs to do is use less RAM for certain things.

Ever notice how the XMB is VERY laggy if you pull it up while in a game? That is because the system ram is being extended beyond what it should be just by that process. If there isn’t even enough ram to run the XMB smoothly while in a game then there’s no way the amount of ram in the PS3 could support a memory intensive process such as Cross Game Voice Chat (Party Chat).
USE COMMON SENSE PEOPLE!!!
or Sony could sell Ram to replace the one we got too, with up to 4GB’s at most would be good for the PS3 or 8GB or 16GB’s. Then think what sony could add and take things to new level with 16GB’s or 8GB’s in ram.
Pls, give us cross-game party chat, it is something essential to have, if you love playing online games with your friends. Is not just about cross game chat, but also if your playing the same game with your friends. Just give us an explanation for why SONY cant accomplish something that is being used by your competition.
Good thing u said that 690, i notice that too. Why was the XMB running slow when in video games or movies. Unless sony makes things like i said or beings out the new motherload ship PS4 or whatever its going to be called there cross-game chat will work.

Reading some of the comments above, today i learned that the ps3 doesnt have enough ram to support the cross-game chat, that sound a little bit ridiculous to me, but if its true, there has to be some other way to get it right. Thanx anyways sony for the update.

@690- The current in-game XMB is laggy becauses Sony put the ENTIRE XMB for the in-game menu, Sony should create a in-game menu that uses the less RAM possible and that only has the menu options that can actually be used, not things that can´t be used like System Update, the whole Video Setting menu while you´re in anything that isn´t watching a movie/video except for BD/DVD upscaler and most of the options under that because they can be changed in the Option menu (triangle) or also put the BD/DVD upscaler on the options menu (triangle), and the whole Music Settings, also some of those options put them on the Options menu while listening to music (triangle), and you get the point, all those things waste RAM when they can´t even be used and could be accessed from the triangle options menu. There´s no excuse!
I think cross chat/cross party chat will come to PS3 because Vita has it and CrossPlay exists which is PS3 players VS Vita players and vice versa even with different games like WipEout HD and WipEout 2048, so 2048 players will be able to talk to HD players but HD won´t be able to talk back because there are different games? Also, there are going to be people that are going to be logged in PSN on Vita, don´t tell me PS3 players can´t chat (VOICE) with Vita players Sony. But don´t release cross chat/cross party chat on PS3 around the time Vita releases, release cross chat NOW!
