SONY AND SONY COMPUTER ENTERTAINMENT ANNOUNCE FULL RESTORATION OF PLAYSTATION®NETWORK SERVICES
Tokyo, May 31, 2011 – Sony Corporation and Sony Computer Entertainment (SCE) announced today that Sony Network Entertainment International (SNEI, the company) will fully restore all PlayStation®Network services in the Americas, Europe/PAL territories and Asia, excluding Japan, Hong Kong, and South Korea by the end of this week. The company will also resume Music Unlimited powered by Qriocity™ for PlayStation®3 (PS3®), PSP® (PlayStation®Portable), VAIO and other PCs. Details for Japan, Hong Kong, and South Korea as well as the remaining services on Qriocity will be announced as they become available.
The company implemented considerable security enhancements to the network infrastructure, as well as conducted testing of the payment process and commerce functions. The first phase of PlayStation Network and Qriocity restoration began on May 15 in the Americas and Europe/PAL territories, followed by Japan and Asian countries and regions on May 28, when the company brought partial services back online. With this partial restoration users were able to access to some of the services such as online game play, account management, friend lists and chat functionality were restored. The full restoration of PlayStation Network as well as part of services to become available on Qriocity will include:
• Full functionality on PlayStation®Store
• In-game commerce
• Ability to redeem vouchers and codes
• Full functionality on Music Unlimited powered by Qriocity for PS3, PSP, VAIO and
other PCs
• Full functionality on Media GoCustomers will be able to purchase and download games and video content from the PlayStation®Store on PS3 or PSP. In addition, consumers will have full access to Music Unlimited powered by Qriocity through PS3, PSP, VAIO and other PC’s. Service restoration of Video on Demand powered by Qriocity™ and Music Unlimited powered by Qriocity for a variety of network-enabled Sony devices will be announced later.
“We have been conducting additional testing and further security verification of our commerce functions in order to bring the PlayStation Network completely back online so that our fans can again enjoy the first class entertainment experience they have come to love,” said Kazuo Hirai, Executive Deputy President, Sony Corporation. “We appreciate the patience and support shown during this time.”
The company will be offering customers a “Welcome Back” package of services and premium content to all registered PlayStation Network* and Qriocity account services. The details of this program will continue to be detailed regionally.
* Only available for those countries with access to PlayStation®Store.
We will update the PlayStation Blog when the PlayStation Store is once again open for business.

awesome its been a while but I’m happy psn will be back online and look forward to spending some money. Congrats sony I know everyone has been hard at work I appreciate the hard work. Just make sure as a company moving forward nothing is brushed off or overlooked. It’s better to correct small problems before they become big ones. It takes money to make money and that goes for security and the protection of the loyal customers.
It takes alot to get hit as hard as you have and get back on your feet. I hope Sony goes in extra hard and really blows our minds with impressive technology and solid games.

I truly hate to say this but does anyone read the EULA’s the standard boilerplate for those things basically states they don’t guarantee that it will ever be working, Working in Tech support for a providers myself, I learned this. They honestly don’t have to give us anything. I count the fact that there is compensation for the loss as a WIN!

Why lie to us, Sony?
You’ve lied about the security breach and the restoration to be two days for online play, which ended up taking a month.
You lied about the playstation store being BY (Keyword: BY) May 31st but now we must wait another week? If you’re going to say something and do the other, I doubt we’d be able to trust you at all. Atleast be trust worthy and tell us what we want (THE TRUTH).

When it will go up, PSN users will be rushing to get their freebies on the Store and eventually, the servers will crash. Not being pessimistic, just realistic.

It’ll be fine. Their servers can handle over 500,000 people playing at once, I’m sure it can deal with a couple more people then that using their store.

When they say it will be back on line jun 4 th at 1201 am that a firm time and date. Some of you people have no clue of the real world. Fantastic, I just HOPE that Sony PR (or whatever wing of Sony Jeff and the rest of the poster’s on here belong to) has a meeting after this whole time, and discusses ways to improve communication within their department, and the company as a whole.
This is great news, I’ve always been a fan of the store, but I gotta say, this post really took all the excitement out and threw an empty shell of a post. It doesn’t feel, from a customer, that Sony is excited to bring these services back, nor do they seem particularly appreciative of the fact that so many people are delighted to have their services back.
C’mon Sony….I KNOW you can plus this. I mean this does the job, but you can do better – all of you can do your job better. Plus it. Plus it – don’t settle for less or middle: keep plussing away.
But, thank you to the technicians who’ve been hard at work.
