Thank you for your patience and encouragement over the last few weeks. As covered in the post from earlier today, you can now update the firmware on your PS3 and change your password. Kazuo Hirai just announced that we have begun the phased restoration by region of some of the services, starting with online multiplayer functionality.
Please note that these services will take a bit of time to be turned on and rolled out to the whole country. The process has begun and some states are being turned on now, so please be patient as we reach your city and state. We’ll be updating the map below as service comes online in individual states. It will take several hours to restore PSN throughout the entire country, so please keep checking back for the latest updates. In the meantime, now’s a great time to get your PS3’s firmware updated, which is required to get online.
Notice: If your state is illuminated but your service has not yet been restored, please be patient – it can take a little while for the servers to populate fully.
Until we get the comments functioning correctly, we’re putting all comments on hold. I’m sure Jitender would appreciate not having people put words in his mouth ^_^
In the meantime, we’ll keep updating the map, and those of you already back online – enjoy some games!

This is a very good step, and I can’t wait for the store to come back up; I’ve got a few demos on my PS3 that I want to make into full versions (I got my PS3 about one week before the breach).

2 little 2 late! I’ve been a loyal PS fanboy from the very beggining, but I have a lot of friends that play Xbox and swore that the online play was better. I preached the Sony name for years, but during the outage I got desperate for some online play and bought an Xbox (so did 3 other dedicated PS3 owners that I play online with). Xbox live is soooooooooooooooooooooo much better than the PSN, and as far as the $60 a year fee, I will gladly pay that for the added features on the Xbox. The party chat alone is worth the money. I didn’t sell my PS3, I’m not a hater, but I’m not wasting my time with the PSN anymore. Don’t knock the Xbox till you try it, Ive even got used to that monster of a controller and actually prefer it over the PS controller. I NEVER thought that would be possible.

Thanks for getting the network up and running again. Granted you didn’t do the best of jobs communicating with your consumers, especially at first; however I would rather have you take a longer time and legitimately fix your networks shortcomings than rush out an unfinished product and have my information leaked again.

Well PSN team, let’s keep this positive – edison found hundreds of ways to not make a light bulb before he made a light bulb. You’ve now learned 25 days (I’ll give you the benefit of the doubt – 23!) of how to not do Public relations! I’m glad I was able to redeem my PC copy of Portal 2 though, and I’ll be happy to add my MK code and try playing on line.
It might be a good idea to start selling psn gift cards in store in 5, 10, and 15 dollar amounts for awhile, until you build up a bit more trust in your consumer base again!

when the psn went down this only made me realize how much i love it. this update also has the most post that wich shows those who stayed with the psn were watching and didn’t switch to xbox!!!

I am going to thank Sony. Know why? They took time to ensure our private data will be secure in the future. I understand that no network is invulnerable to hacks. However I am thankful for the many added levels of security to their servers. Also because they never jumped the gun in the beginning, waiting only until they had solid evidence that our information was compromised to inform us of the possibility. And yes, they did let us know ALMOST immediately that there was a breach.
I’m not going to let somebody that clearly didn’t have his facts straight be the voice of reason here. Our credit card information was not compromised. Not once did Sony say it WAS, but there was NO EVIDENCE of it being compromised was shown. Now that the network is up and running, I’m thinking it will be safe to say our credit card information was safe. Not to mention no bank or credit card company reported fraud related to the PSN breach.
If anybody wants to try and be a voice of reason, please make sure your facts are straight.

Man thank god you guys got it back up….my withdraws were still happening…..lol.. any on a serious note thanks for getting it back up regardless how long it took. I think it was a good thing to get away from it for a bit anyways people get too damn hooked and serious about this stuff. Those of you who kept crying about the service being down get a damn girlfriend or something.
