Q&A #2 for PlayStation Network and Qriocity Services

Yesterday, we addressed a number of your questions relating to the malicious intrusion into our network. You can find that FAQ here. As we get closer to restoration of service, here are more answers to your questions, many of which are more gaming related:

Q: Will our download history/friends list/settings be affected by the PSN downtime?
A: No, they will not.

Q: Will trophies that were earned in single-player offline games during the outage be intact when the service resumes?
A: These trophies are intact and will be re-synched when the network is once again operational.

Q: Will my PS+ cloud saves be retrievable?
A: Yes, once PSN is restored.

Q: What if we have a subscription to PS3 MMOs DC Universe Online or Free Realms? Will we get compensation for that?
A: From Sony Online Entertainment: “We apologize for any inconvenience players may have experienced as a result of the recent service interruption. As a global leader in online gaming, SOE is committed to delivering stable and entertaining games for players of all ages. To thank players for their patience, we will be hosting special events across our game portfolio. We are also working on a “make good” plan for players of the PS3 versions of DC Universe Online and Free Realms. Details will be available soon on the individual game websites and forums.”

Q: Will there be a goodwill gesture for the time we haven’t been able to utilize PSN/Qriocity?
A: We are currently evaluating ways to show appreciation for your extraordinary patience as we work to get these services back online.

    New time frame is May 3 and they said a password change will be mandatory once you try to log-in.

  • Glad Sony is thinking this through, from top to bottom. Its good to know once things get back up, trophies etc will be synced, but also what it takes for a smooth transition to get services in place and all info is secure and ready. Other than this, I still would like a better ETA on service restoration!

  • I appreciate your guys efforts. Please add some new functions to the new servers though * like auto sync trophies*. The best way to come out of this positive is by adding something small like that, but satisfying.

    I don’t think any automatic resource that runs on the network is a good idea. It could send annoying error messages every once in a while or give slight hiccups on the speed while you are downloading something.

  • Will my funds be in the account when it is restored?
    I would hate if my funds were deleted.

  • I am sorry… But this new NEWS report that Hackers are claiming that they actually have out Credit Card date for the first has scared me. Throughout this whole investigation I believed that we were fine and people were making a big deal out of nothing, which kind of they are, but now… they have a reason to worry (If in fact these common hacker communities have our info)… I’m contradicting myself now as more and more information is coming out.

  • Thanks for the daily updates, good to know what’s going on. Hope you guys get us back online soon, I wan’t to start playing games again, not to mention I just got AC Brotherhood and I believe I need to log into PSN to get some extra features so I haven’t even really started the game, I’ve played about 10 mins and I said fudge it, ill just wait.

  • This is all good news for us, I know I was concerned if the PS Plus saves were lost or not and glad it wasn’t. Now I can’t wait to be back online and get back to gaming with my friends, hopefully Saturday it will be back and we all can get to what we do best GAMING!!!!

  • We don’t need “compensation” stop being so greedy people. Stuff like this happens, try to have some compassion.

  • Thanks for the update(s). Keep ’em coming. Also, we will want to know when the intruders have been apprehended and put on trial. Maybe we can even hack the penalty system and change it to a hanging. (Kidding, relax people.)

    Also, to my fellow gamers… please don’t say cross game chat would be a good “make it up” gift. The last thing we need to make up for the loss of a service we use all the time is a feature that hardly anyone would actually ever use.

  • I purchased 2 $50 PSN cards before the outage. When I tried to transfer my funds to my account I received an error and wouldn’t let me transfer them. Are my funds still in my PSN cards or my account?

  • Although it seems most of the rest of the gaming world is ready to jump down your guy’s throats, I applaud the care being taken to lock down, secure and improve PSN all the while keeping us informed and squashing dumb rumors that fanboys like to create.

  • This is nice but all I want to do is some Rock Band 3 online!! It has been too long! Anyone who has the game, add me when the PSN is back up. I play on expert vocals and my friend that plays with me is an expert guitarist/bassist. Any expert drummers out there would be great.

    probably still in your cards. only you have the code and wont discount until it actually goes to your wallet.
    works the same as DLC codes. wont expire despite inputting the code. just don’t download them.

    You will need to contact PlayStation Network If you dont see the funds added to your wallet when it goes back up and also before calling try entering them in again because im sure they did not get activated at that time sir.

  • I was honestly a little upset when this whole thing 1st happened, and I was a little mad at Sony. But as days went on and I really thought about it, I should of been mad at the Hacker(s) this whole time. I will always support SONY! Loyal fans like me will always have your side when the dust settles.

  • Im thinking they will add features to the PS3 after a few weeks PSN come back Online because with a firmware update it has to go throw series of Tests before but on mass market.

    Im Glade Sony and PlayStation are going in the right direction with this all.

    Any company can be hacked into like I see over lots of reading.. just takes time and the right tools and a Hacker that doesn’t have a life besides mess with someone else’s life and property.

    Stop Living in your Grandma’s Basement and get a job and live a better life.

    Anyways back on track.. Love to see some new cool features to my Warm Loving PS3. She needs new Earings and some Nice shiny Bling! Bling! ;)

  • Now thats what we all want to hear SNEA. Give your loyal customers something to show how sorry you are for letting something like this be able to take place.

    If you give us a good enough reward it will show us that you are working to make amends for what happen.

  • Hmmm, why do they answer the question about the “single-player offline trophies during the outage”…….how about the WHOLE TROPHY RECORDS? Humm? I guess that was a more important question…I really don’t like the sound of “these trophies” emphasis on “THESE”…oh yeah, what about “THOSE” ?

  • @83, i think that when they say “these” they’re just referencing the question, i doubt they meant those trophies alone were intact.

  • This is the kind of information we should have gotten from the start. An email telling us something has gone wrong and you’re working on a fix. That if we want to keep updated check the PlayStation Blog or keep emailing the users updating them on the situation.

    I just want Sony to be straight up and not hold things back. I’m glad that now they are giving us the information we want but I think this should have been done a lot sooner.

  • Put On The features we want on PSN And we’ll be happy and forget about the Maintenance..cross game voice chat,Voice messages,a simplified menu when inside a game..Please :/..i’ve been hoping PSN Would get them from a year!

  • Still would like to know about Netflix information, I’d assume it has nothing to do with Sony’s servers since we’re able to still log on despite PSN being down, but would still like an answer.

    I’m curious how that works anyway.

  • @toker509 Microsoft currently has a patent on cross game chat so until Sony finds away around that patent its not coming to the PS3 any time soon.
    OT: Good update Sony, I have no doubt in my mind you are working as hard as you can to get PSN back online.
