Latest Update for PSN/Qriocity Services

610 0

We sincerely regret that PlayStation Network and Qriocity services have been suspended, and we are working around the clock to bring them both back online. Our efforts to resolve this matter involve re-building our system to further strengthen our network infrastructure. Though this task is time-consuming, we decided it was worth the time necessary to provide the system with additional security.

We thank you for your patience to date and ask for a little more while we move towards completion of this project. We will continue to give you updates as they become available.

  • Thanks for the update, Sony crew. Please don’t let your workers sleep until it is gaming time! ;-) I know when I was doing IT and database administration I had to pull a few all night upgrade marathons…

As to those of my PSN co-users that insist that Sony should reimburse you for the downtime, how much money did it actually cost you? The PSN service is FREE, even if you are + member. Seriously folks you haven’t lost any money just game and content time. I am sure if you didn’t get to watch a rental or something like that an email to Sony would likely straighten out your issue. Despite what the slacker hacker team wants you to believe, Sony’s customer support team is quite helpful.

  • I can imagine how stressed the PSN team is right now.
Having to “re-code” the entire PSN security system must be HELL. Years of work to be done in a week or less.

Good Luck guys and I hope to play Portal 2 online soon!

  • @D-Squad3
Well it worked for 2-3 days. I used it because my friends are PC gamers. Why would it work for 2-3 days and then bring down the whole PSN?

  • I haven’t had any problems getting into Netflix since the network went down. I was very happy about that, as I usually watch Netflix through my ps3

  • 3 Pages already. You guys work fast

  • Extend the time for us Plus subscribers.

  • @102 B-Real206 Keep it up… maybe someday the fools asking for compensation will get it,

  • @Rhcooper

Netflix works. Let it ask you to sign in, click “X” to try to, it will say “PSN is down for maintenance.” Click “O,” and you should be good to go. It may ask a second time, but after that, no issues.

  • since this whole hacking dielema started shouldn’t Sony have planned ahead of time.

  • Just an FYI to B-Real206:

You posting that ToS argument only works for PSN (the free service) not Ps+, Netflix, DC Universe Users, or other Pay to use services on the Ps3.

I do agree with you that we dont need any compensation for this downtime, but i believe that all other services like DC Universe needs something for all this downtime since people actually paid money to play the game (or services) and they cant even use it.

  • Possible to allow MLB.tv access without sign in like we have with Netflix?

  • Hopefully the system become faster from this… that and maybe more features?

  • Aw still no update on when it should be back up and running? Because I bought Portal 2 and I want to connect to Steam and play some online co-op!

  • I both understand and give not only my patience but my condolence for this situation, and feel angst that it has taken this long… In any case, I certainly hope this blows over soon enough, and those responsible get hit with the harshest penalties possible. Godspeed guys, and best of luck at resolving this. I look forward to the day we can all get back online.

  • I love how so many people complain about getting compensated for something that is free. Also those Plus members that think they should get something should remember they get games, themes, and misc. other items for their membership. I’m also a D1 Plus member just so you know. I may not like some of the items I get with my membership but PSN being down doesn’t hurt me any.

Do you people not have any single player games to play? Some of you are probably to young to remember what it was like to game without internet. You’ll survive without it for a little while. Hell it’s only been 3 days. I remember when I was a 360 gamer and Live was down for a week. Now that was worth complaining about cause I had to pay for it.

Also you complainers need to understand that Sony didn’t cause this. A unknown hacker/hackers did. Be happy Sony caught it before all our info could get out. I also would like to applaud my fellow gamers on here stickinng up for Sony. At least I know there is still some people in this world who are not ungrateful.

Hope everything is going good for you Sony. Take your time and bring us back an excellent service.

  • one day

  • @+ xxnike629xx what do u mean “over a week ” ???
the network went down just a few days ago , and
their the ones who shut it down … Something tells me you would just be pissing and moaning about something else had they kept the network up and people lose their account’s or worse CC info stolen . time 2 grow up a bit eh ?

  • While your at it add some new features to compensate for the down time.

Like cross-game voice chat, or cross-game voice chat. Oh! Maybe you could add cross-game voice chat?

  • It would be cool if they updated the ps3 with the needed security fix but also gave us cross game chat as a “Thanks for stayn with us” type of thing. It was a gorgeous day outside where I live today, Very early spring….
I would hope for a better ETA, think should hire me for your PR work.

  • As a PS Plus customer I expect something very rewarding for putting up with this LONG outage. I’m an IT Engneer myself and I can’t imagine what my customers would think if I kept their email servers offline for DAYS. I understand you dont have a choice but this also makes it clear PSN security was awfully weak. Someone’s head should roll for designing a network which could be so easily crippled.

I’m with you Sony but that won’t last forever. You better take care of us customers. Also, keeping us in the dark this whole time is bad PR. You guys are reacting to calls for you to speak up instead of controlling the message and staying in front of this disaster. GET IT TOGETHER.

  • @ Daze i’d like to see some proof of these “hackers” if not then your last paragraph is invalid.

Anyway i think people are enjoying Single players games, its just i assume people enjoy online better. different people have different opinions on thats. i personally enjoy single player, but i also do most of my communication with my friends through Ps3. because of this i havent been in contact with them.

Like i said before i dont think anyone needs any compensation on anything right now aside from people who use DC universe and only pay2play services.

If this continues i would assume some type of compensation would be allowed for us. i mean what if this continues for the coming weeks, or even months? no one knows whats going to happen. even Sony from the looks of it doesnt know, or at least isnt giving us information.

  • @fuzzy

People have been having problems with Psn for the past couple of weeks (i think the first incidents was about 2-3 weeks ago) only recently (April 20th) did Sony officially closed all services through the psn.

  • So the Hackers WON? OMG *Head Explodes*

  • This update was really helpful. Now I see they are working on a serious problem, and the least I can do to help them is to just let them work in peace and don’t whine about it. I’m a grateful consumer of their great products.

  • time to get some trophies

  • Take as long as you guys need, but is there a time table? If not that, fine, I’d just like to know at least an estimation.

  • Frankly, some of you really need to be watching hockey to occupy your time. Playoffs = rule. And on right now, least for another 6:33 of game time. :)

All I have to say (on-topic anyways) is that they gave us 1-2 days downtime before, then have not given us a approx. time frame since. Either you do or you don’t, but since you started….how about a new one…best guess perhaps, don’t care. Plenty for me to do offline, but would be nice to be able to play with some distant friends online sometime…in the near future? next week? June?

  • FYI to iTofuMan here is the user end agreement for dc universe

We are not liable for any delay or failure to perform resulting from any causes beyond our reasonable control. Further, we cannot and do not promise or ensure that you will be able to access your Account whenever you want, and there may be extended periods of time when you cannot access your Account. You assume the entire risk as to the results and performance of the Software and the Game in connection with your hardware and software, and you assume the entire cost of all servicing, repair and/or correction of your hardware and software.

This is pretty much universal. Thanks though. I can pull up PSN + too if you need me to.

  • As for the TOS (for anyone/any business)…all they ever do is take away (as best their lawyers could) any and all responsibility from a company for their product(s) that they put out. Frankly, although I agree to play, I find them disgusting; and that we allow companies to do their best to limit their responsibility for their product(s) that they make, sell, and advertise (including having certain features) is just a sad state for consumer rights (HELLO, WE’RE THE ONE BUYING THE PRODUCT…..WHERE ARE OUR RIGHTS???….WAKE UP PEOPLE….*soapbox off*) and we wonder why companies act the way they do.

Just read that 15 posted already……here how it reads for consumers….we’ll take you’re money….but after that, we take no responsibility for anything and everything related to that…..even though it’s our system you bought and paid for (product), and we authorized the building and oversight of said system….but in the end, you’re screwed…oh yeah, thanks for your money. Come again.

  • Rebuild us a network we can be proud of SONY! Ganbatte Kudasai.

  • Take your time Sony. The mature among us understand.

  • When this is all done, I want several people in prison.

  • I MISS UNCHARTED 2 MULTIPLAYER

  • The blokes on the EU Blog sure are a mature and civilized bunch. I like that.

  • @B-Real206
your right, we don’t deserve or truly need compensation. im sorry i have complained in my posts, i have 2 new games (portal 2 and socom 4)and have desperately wanted to play, but with school haven’t had a chance till this weekend. i would really be happy to have online back, thats all.

  • Suspended? Rebuild? Great…perfect….I guess that means we won’t have online service for a while, I’m guessing a week or so……I can’t believe you Sony, you are better than this, letting a couple of people take down the PSN, hope those people get thrown in jail

  • Free network, do what ever the hell you want for as long as you want. Just don’t keep us in the cold for to long, we will eventually need to get online eventually.

  • To follow up….Can Sony control the internet, no. Can they control weather/natural disasters, no. For this, they shouldn’t need an excuse.

But they took down the system (for good reason, that’s not at debate), but say you paid for a strictly online game through PSN…and poof system no longer available and no alternate either. You are without any legal recourse because of that TOS. Ahhh, I love people/companies who take responsibility for their own actions. Oh wait…..

Be a smart consumer and be aware that you already agreed to this. In other words, quit your sniffling and always asking for something (grow up and EARN something). If you have an issue…..find out how to get involved and get the laws changed. Until then, you have a better shot of getting your voice heard by someone on the moon.

  • Well I want to know if my credit card information is safe first. If it’s not, tell us as soon as possible. I know I will be watching my CC everyday.

  • @iTofu: So what do you think they told us there was an external intrusion? Do you think they are just lying and shut down PSN for some other reason.? I am just going off of what they said an assuming it was a hacker/hackers who cause the intrusion.

Ya it does suck for people who subscribe to DCUO but for $15 a month it breaks down to .50 a day. So right now they are only looking at $1.50 loss. It would be nice if Sony just extended their subscription for the days lost.

PS+ subscribers are already compensated with free stuff every month. We are not losing out on anything right now and never will. So nothing is needed to be compensated there.

Netflix is a program Sony lets you use on their system. They do not charge you for it. Which doesn’t matter anyways cause you can still use it without signing in to PSN like many have stated already. So no compensation needed there.

Now Sony could hook all of us up with something if they wanted to be really cool about the inconvenience but they don’t need to. I think it would give a big ups for Sony if they did this. I also think a lot of people would still not be happy no matter what Sony does.

  • @AUTOXFOOL

NHL Gamecenter REQUIRES the PSN to be functional to be able to watch the PLAYOFFS…all of which people have to pay for, it is a subscription service…some people don’t have cable and don’t want to sit at a computer etc…

in my estimation, sony, you probably lost 5-10% of your user base…yup, they will flee to the M$ network…all this, prob not because of the outage, but because you are so vague and really uninformative…just a bunch of words that really don’t equal much when discerned…

  • Damn some of you guys are greedy *****, figures society is going down hill. Go read the ToS and come back before whining about compensation

  • @DazeOfWar
sony should make a background saying
    “i survived the PSN blackout”
    and give those out haha

  • @s1mpl3: haha, love it. I think that would be really cool.

  • @sid. I know. It must really suck. LA just won though! w00t (Wings fan…so just extended their rest). Gotta love the TOS though…..

Company + money – PSN access > consumer – money – product access – rights. Who wins?

People need to know that unless the LAW changes, don’t expect a company to ever claim responsibility for ANYTHING. But bet your trigger finger, they hold their people responsible for bad PR or whatever the reason (oh, and if you’re lucky enough to be in an “at-will” state…they don’t even need a reason). People lose jobs….company has less labor cost (if not rehired or at lower salary).

    So again….who wins?

  • I’m so hating this Anonymous group… They managed to push us (customers) to the limit. I hope they realize that the only thing they destroyed was their own image.

  • I want a T-Shirt that says that…. “I survived the PSN Blackout ’11 – just in case in an annual event. :D

  • @Autoxfool
    AGREED!!!
