SOCOM 4 PlayStation Plus Beta is Live, Play Schedule for 3/22 to 3/28

SOCOM 4: Bomb Squad

Our first week of private beta testing for SOCOM 4: U.S. Navy SEALs has been incredibly helpful. Though the participants were limited to the “invite only” crowd, their feedback has been phenomenal — with tens of thousands of posts filled with opinions, suggestions, comments and more pouring into our beta forum.

Starting today, it’s time for PlayStation Plus members to get their turn as they join the existing testers for the next phase of our pre-release examination. Though similar to last week’s schedule, this week’s agenda is a bit different. Here’s what game types you can expect to see starting today:

· Tuesday (3/22) – Suppression, Classic Suppression, Scrum (Custom), Community Day Classic (Custom)

· Wednesday (3/23) – Uplink, Classic Uplink, Suppression, Classic Suppression

· Thursday (3/24) – Last Defense, Classic Last Defense, Uplink, Classic Uplink

If you missed last week’s post, the multiplayer beta includes two maps, Port Authority and Assault & Battery, and offers a variety of built-in game-types and custom game-types:

Suppression: The SOCOM take on team deathmatch.

Last Defense: Capture controls points, discover the enemy base and destroy it.

Uplink: Steal enemy data and deliver it to your base.

Bomb Squad: Defend your bomb technician while he disarms enemy explosives.

Sniper Alley (Custom): An 8 vs. 8 version of Classic Suppression with higher damage. Weapons are limited to sniper rifles, shotguns, smoke grenades and poison gas.

Last Defense Run ‘n Gun (Custom): Faster movement speed and reduced damage are applied to 16 vs. 16 Last Defense with weapons restricted to only shotguns and SMGs.

Scrum (Custom): Suppression is given rule tweaks of no respawn, faster movement and higher damage, while sniper rifles, frag grenades, concussion grenades and poison gas are disallowed.

Community Day Classic (Custom): A medley featuring Classic versions of all four game types (Suppression, Last Defense, Uplink and Bomb Squad) with increased speed and weapon restrictions placed on ranged explosives. Each game type is played over 11 five-minute rounds.

All built-in game-types (re: not “Custom”) will be playable in both the Standard and Classic variations. Standard mode closely mimics the single-player experience, while Classic harkens back to older SOCOM titles with increased movement speeds, round-based play, no player respawns and the lack of health regeneration. Our Custom types mix and match a number of game settings, delivering fresh takes on our core rule sets.

As before, after you’ve had a chance to play the beta, we’d love to hear your feedback! Once you’ve downloaded the beta and played a complete match, you’ll then gain access to our private beta forums on SOCOM.com where you can share your stories with other players and leave us your feedback. SOCOM has always been a very player-driven franchise and your opinions are very important to us, so please let us know what you think! We’ll see you again next week on the SOCOM blog with an updated schedule, or you can keep updated on our latest agenda through our in-game news feed.

  • oh yea, after you download it, installed it, prepare for a 1.56gb update
i didnt mind it, what i did was let my ps3 alone, walk away from it, did some bong hits, by the time it was done i was hi outta my mind

  • AHAHA do PS plus members really try out this Beta a week before the people who got a voucher from Killzone 3 Collectors Edition?!?!?! Ive been waiting to use my voucher and now to see it available even earlier for Plus!!! Words cant describe the joy I feel when I think of putting on my 3D glasses, grabbing my sharpshooter, and just going to town on everyone!!

  • Any news on when the beta is available to all non Playstation Plus users who got the beta code with KIllzone 3 ???

  • Killer graphics good sound but [DELETED] camera angles. To make things worse you can’t change them. Welcome to the pile meet confrontation.

  • I hope the game is much much better than the beta…Where the classic camera view…and the controller lay out is terrible…I couldn’t wait to try the beta now i have been let down once again and this time by zipper…whats up with all the changes….the game types, camera view, what a let down…guess i won’t need those reserved copies after all……

  • well im glad that zipper is finally back into socom world.bought the last one and didnt like it at all so i stopped playing.i was playing since the first socom was out and was really disapointed that zipper didnt make the last one CONFRONTATION.i dont have playstation plus so il wait for the game to be out.hope its so great that im back playing it full force.

  • Can you shoot with R2 and aim with L2 at least as an alternate control option? Every shooter should use triggers..makes no sense not to.

  • These is to ZIPPER,i’d been playing Socom4 & i like it already i just need 1 thing fix speed in my control.I had put my control speed to maximum but it still slow to me specially adscoping…Will u guys fix it or just leave like that….

  • Sorry but I’m disappointed.
I have played the SOCOM series since it first began in 2002. This is not SOCOM by any stretch of the imagination. If you mainly played SOCOM for the online part, you will be way disappointed. I was so hoping for a version that was as good as SOCOM II online. But this is definitely not it and it’s more like a Battlefield without the ability to fly or drive any vehicles.
The controls have been changed up so drastically that it no longer has the feal of SOCOM anymore than COD does. Maybe Zipper wanted to try and keep up with the FPS shooters that are out and doing well ? But this is one version I will not buy, and by now I would have pre-ordered it. I won’t even rent this version of it , it’s just not SOCOM.

  • God, I LOVE people getting mad at PS+ members for getting access to the BETA be for the Killzone pre-order bonus.THIS IS THE MAIN REASON I SIGNED UP FOR PS+, EARLY BETA ACCESS! C’mon guys, dont be mad and not buy the game or cancel your pre-order. Just get smart! PS+ deserve this BETA, (hmm why?!) It’s what we signed up for guys. Maybe ya’ll should sign up to and quit crying.

By the way this BETA got me hooked, I like it. LOL

    PS+ FTW! Hi Haters

  • I cannot, CANNOT understand what has gone wrong with SOCOM. SOCOM 2 was a great game and nothing has come close since. For SO MANY of us. Yet rather than make & refine what made S2 great, Zipper have made “Call of SOCOM”.

The community are CRYING OUT for lobbies. I don’t want to “quick play” in rooms with strangers who, more often than not, don’t even speak my language.

I want regionalised lobbies, 8 v 8 games on tight matches that don’t have respawn and don’t last forever. Like SOCOM 1 & 2. SOCOM 3 ruined things with 16 v 16 battles (way too big, games too long) and now S4 has ruined it further with stupid game modes and NO LOBBIES!

Sure, I understand the “quick match” has to be there for the brainless impatient morons who can’t bring themselves to find a room. But the lobbies MADE the SOCOM communities, be they the regionalised lobbies that meant you could play with people you have things in common with – like locality and LANGUAGE! – or the mid-game lobbies where you could chat, build relationships, have a great laugh and BUILD THE SOCOM COMMUNITY.

  • I mean, the SOCOM 2 community lives on even today in some form, yet it has never been replicated in another game. I’m still friends with games I met on SOCOM 1! Nothing, not even CoD, has done that.

I cannot, for the life of me, fathom why Zipper cannot give the people what they want. It’s like they don’t actually play the games they make.

We want SOCOM 2 in HD, really. We would go nuts for it. Instead, everything that made that game so, so great, for so, so many people, has been lost.

    I am very, very disappointed.

I’d also like to ask why on Earth Zipper can’t manage a half-decent weapon selection system that is instinctive and instead go for the finger-bending slow system S4 has now. What’s wrong with “D-pad left to cycle primary, D-pad right to cycle equipment”, for example? You’ve only got 2 of each so it would be soooo easy. The current system is just ridiculous. As a gamer of 30 years I am constantly stunned by the mistakes made by Sony and Zipper with the SOCOM franchise, which has taken steps backwards ever since S2. SUCH a shame. We loved that game and would still play it today if we could.

  • SOCOM Community: “Ooh, can we have something that is like SOCOM 2 but in HD please?”

Zipper: “No, you will have this and you will like it.”

SOCOM Community: “Um, no we won’t, it’s not what we wanted at all”

    Zipper: “…………….”

SOCOM Community: “Umm, hello? What about lobbies, we don’t like this system you put in”

Zipper: “It is brilliant and you will like it.”

SOCOM Community: “No, we really won’t, it doesn’t work, it won’t help expand the community and is not user-friendly”

    Zipper: “…………..”

SOCOM Community: “Perhaps we should take our thoughts on what made SOCOM so great and help someone who actually cares about the people playing the games make a new SOCOM beater then?”

Zipper: “I can’t hear you as I am too busy stuffing my ears with the money you spent hoping that this game would be anything like what you actually wanted. We make the game WE want not what you want. And that game is Call of Duty. I mean SOCOM. For GameStation 3”.

SOCOM Community: “Do any of you at Zipper ACTUALLY OWN CONSOLES OR PLAY GAMES?”

  • I will never buy a game for just the code ever AGAIN!!!! I knew sony screwed people over but this is the icing on the cake..

  • Buy this forum…I may not be buying the game I was so looking forward to. Maybe I’ll switch console in the process also

  • I will never buy Beta…If anything I’ll switch systems…

  • I will never buy ps plus. The fact is that is the reason i bought kz!!! Which i’m sure sony already knew people would do this. They had this all planned out. Sony has lost all credibility with me. And I still can’t play Socom.
My codes do not work!!! They have just lost my loyalty!!!

  • The way it sounds the game has been ruined anyway…Any new gaming systems coming out??

  • Dear Jeremy Dunham of Zipper Interactive.

Please bring back the Scout control configuration. It is also called “Legacy” thumbsticks in some games. Also, I bet there are a few people who would like “Lefty” thumbsticks options as well.

Scout (Legacy) = Left stick controls move up/down, turn left/right. Right stick controls look up/down and strafe left/right.

I really enjoyed the Beta and hope to get the full game!

    Thank you in advance!

-TAMBO (A fan since SOCOM 1, I still have the hat that came bundled with the headset on release!)
