Killzone 3 Multiplayer Open Beta is Live: Come Get Some!

Just a reminder to fans out there that we are in an open beta, so it’s possible you may experience some issues connecting to a game. Please be patient and know that we are doing everything we can to make this a smooth and fun experience for everyone.

Killzone 3 multiplayer open beta

Starting at 10AM Pacific Time today, the Killzone 3 Multiplayer Open Beta is live! Japan and Europe are already hard at frag and now it’s time for North America and Mexico to join the party! You’ll find the Killzone 3 Beta on the main page of the PlayStation Store; it’s also listed under the 3D and PlayStation Move categories for added convenience.

The Open Beta includes one map, Frozen Dam. All game modes can be played on this map:

  • Warzone: The traditional Killzone game mode with game types changing on-the-fly
  • Guerrilla Warfare: Our take on Team Deathmatch
  • Operations: Our new story driven multiplayer game mode
  • Botzone: An offline version of Warzone which can be played against AI opponents

The Killzone 3 Open Beta is playable in 3D and supports the PlayStation Move motion controller. The Beta trial runs until February 15th, so get on board while you can! If you have any feedback, Killzone.com has a section of the forum specifically set up for this purpose. You can of course track all your stats on Killzone.com as well.

Lastly, don’t forget that from Friday, February 4th through Sunday, February 6th we will be giving away 20 Limited Helghast Editions each day. Team members will log on to the Open Beta each of the three days to randomly select players in matches. We will not select players more than once during the sweepstakes and will notify the winners via the email address associated with their PSN account. Check here for official sweepstakes rules.

    Last time i heard this would automatically download for us plus member is it true. I’m at school and i want to just jump in the moment i get home.

    Looks like Lost Planet + Battlefield: Bad Company! I’m sure it’s a lot better, though. Time to download it. :)

    How big is the download size? I have limited bandwidth, so hopefully it isn’t too big.

    Hit detection and lag still a big problem.
    No starting with primary abilities?
    Infiltrator has lights so there’s no visual clue it’s an enemy.
    Some of the starting weapons are so weak it’s pathetic.

    I was really looking forward to this game, and this “beta” is making me think I’m not buying it based purely on the lag. I was playing KZ2 last night and this is no better when it comes to these latency issues.

    This is a platinum trophy KZ2 player who is not going to buy it unless the lag is fixed.

    Question, is the ranks in the beta the same as in the full game? I am moving up them so fast at the rate I am going I’ll hit the last rank in no time. I really hope it takes a much longer time to did this in the full game. I like to have stuff to work for and that shows my skill as a player.

    Infiltrator class is overpowered. Its hard enough trying to spot your enemies.

    Not working for me at all, at least the multiplayer…bots are fun for a bit but want humanz competition lol!!!Won’t connect!!!!!arghhhhh

    Downloaded, try it and now deleting! Game controls still suck! Much like Killzone 1 and 2. I’ll only play the SP game. Nice job copying Halo: Reach as well.

    Pet Peeve of mine – marketing people need to quit calling a Demo or Stress Test a Beta. This game went Gold weeks ago and review copies have been out for a while (IGN already posted their review).

    Any particular reason why the multilayer is not connecting? Played bot mode and it was awesome but Would like to check out the online. Make it happen GG!

    Love what you guys did with the game! Top-notch graphics and presentation and I feel you guys did just enough with the aiming to bring more players in while still staying true to the KZ feel. Awesome job, can’t wait for the game!

    Excellent game indeed. Having a hard time trying to find my “game position” with the Move controller, but I’m sure I’ll get used to it soon.

    Early reviews have revealed that there is COOP in the game, why didn’t you guys toute this as an early feature?????? That is kind of a big deal to leave out of PR, does it function with two moves?

    I’m really enjoying the Beta but I have to say I don’t like too much the big mechas. I think they are too powerful and everyone ends up camping them. I hope that change a bit before the final version.

    this game is sooo sick and the controls have definitely been tightened up but they also still feel very killzone-ish and move support is pretty decent too, release it tomorrow :D

    I had a chance to try it and I enjoyed it a lot. My friend thought it was terrible but it’s his loss and not mine. I can’t wait for February 22nd!

    I had the closed beta of Killzone 3, i couldn’t play online, because it said, A network related error has occurred: User entries cannot contain obscenities – error code -967….well guess what? The open beta is saying the same exact thing! This is bologna! Could you please fix this!? I was planning of pre-ordering it soon, but if this happens in the full-game I’d be furious! PLEASE ANSWER ME!

    its been about 2 hours and its still not done downloading >_< I really wanted to at least play 1 match before I headed to school, but looks like I wont be able to. Darnest thing happens though, I popped in ME2 to play while it downloads and seems I cant play and DL at the same time because it goes to pending, but as long as im on the start screen it does DL, anyways getting to the point, the DL goes about normal speed when its just on the start screen, but when the FMV plays after you dont press start for a while, all of a sudden the download speed skyrockets!

    It downloads about a mb a second, then when it goes back to the start screen its back to normal speed, then back to FMV, skyrockets again. Such an odd thing and I have no idea why, im gonna do that to all my DLs now, lol.
