PlayStation Plus

Hi everyone,

Hope you all had a fun and safe holiday!

While everyone was away enjoying the holidays (and hopefully some new gaming gifts), we were working hard to ensure that the momentum keeps rolling with PlayStation Plus. With that said, let’s jump into some of the new content that will be coming to PlayStation Plus on January 18.

Modern Combat: Domination for PS3 (PSN) ScottPilgrimband

Kicking off the PlayStation Plus update on January 18 are discounts on two PlayStation Network titles, Scott Pilgrim vs. The World and Modern Combat: Domination. Play as Scott Pilgrim as he fights his way through Ramona’s evil exes in what Spike called the Best Adapted Video Game (Note: This 50% off discount is available for one week only). We are also offering a 25% off day one discount on Gameloft’s upcoming shooter, Modern Combat: Domination. Jump into Modern Combat: Domination with the PlayStation Move and experience total immersion into a modern war experience.

Along with both those discounts, we are also offering a 25% off day one discount on new DLC for Ubisoft’s real time strategy title, R.U.S.E., and a free download of Hero of Sparta, a popular PlayStation mini from Gameloft. More free themes and an exclusive Mega Man 10 avatar bundle also round out our next update.

This week is an especially good time to join PlayStation Plus as we are offering over $60 in free items, including downloads of Sam & Max, Lead & Gold, Crash Team Racing, Spyro the Dragon, and more. Along with these titles, we are still offering our free three-month offer for subscribers who purchase a year of PlayStation Plus. Also, look for PlayStation Plus subscription cards at major retailers, including Best Buy, Wal-Mart, GameStop and Target.

As always, check out the list below for items that are expiring from PlayStation Plus. There are several items coming down, so be sure to download them before it’s too late.

  • Great update keep up the good work.

  • i will definitely be buying scott pilgrim now that i have absolutely no excuse to do it. i have been holding off while i catch up on other things but now there is no way i can pass this up!

  • i remember ( i forgot which firmware took it away and nobody noticed ) we save pictures(images) and use whatever avatar we liked , we all had the ability but nobody noticed when it was gone . I had a al pacino/scarface avatar and other users would be like where did i get it.

  • Hoping there is a few more surprises in there! :D

  • After two promising cycles with Sam & Max, Spyro, and Lead for Gold (or whatever its called), we’re back to COMPLETE GARBAGE. I’m glad I have not purchased Plus yet or I’d be ticked. I came really close with the last two cycles though.

  • @NURADEEN

That feature never existed to create custom online avatars.

  • sweet update.. Getting full game for free is kool.. And if your on a tight budget ps+ is for you.. Psn is dirt cheap 1-20$ for a game.. some of them best on the market.. If your a poor gamer buy ps+ it well worth it. Also it dont clutter you hard drive with unwanted games.. which is the best part.:)

  • So looking forward to Modern Combat, and thanks for the discount! :)

  • You should be announcing a discount for DCUO through Plus.
You should be in development with PS@Home for Plus content.
Heres the thing..Your making new folks who missed out on the PSone console and PS2 happy and those who cant or wont spend $60 a pop on a game.Thats great…BUT
Some of us when we speak about Sony, its like a badge of honor.
100’s of us want PS Plus in Home. You say this is plus?..well lets see it.
Only my opinion..But see..Im nobody.Im just a Home user so forget about it.

  • I tried Scott Pilgrim, I was really frustrated with the fact that if you die you have to start the entire level over from the beginning, no checkpoints! Guess it lives up to its old school graphics.

  • Modern combat and scott pilgram are must get! thanks playstation plus!

  • Glad I’ve subscribed!

  • This update and the last seem so-so to me. It seems like the emphasis is going towards more mature fare. When I signed up, it was titles like Mushroom Men and Critter Crunch that I can play with my younger kids. I liked those better than some of the more recent shooter type stuff and more “mature” humor (S&M, scott pilgrim).

Seeing as this service seems targeted at late adopters (i.e. most of the offerings are not new releases) it seems like a good amount of it should be family-friendly stuff, seeing as many late adopters are families. I’m not saying all of it. But a good portion of it.

It’s hard to keep everybody happy. Keep up the good work.

  • Awesome on the dynamic theme and discounts :D… just out of curiosity, are you guys considering making LBP2 dlc included with PS+. I mean, a costume a month would be an AMAZING bonus for us who love LBP :D.

  • I saw the Playstation Plus cards during the holidays when I made a stop at Target. Let me tell you, the card itself looks very unattractive to the eye for anyone to be interested in reading what’s printed on it. Seriously, a nice face lift would do it wonders. It needs to look more gamer-like and less dull. Images of Ratchet & Clank, the Playstation Store icons, Uncharted, KillZone, Sly Cooper, Cole from InFamous, etc. on the face of Playstation Plus cards would be phenomenal. They would make for great incentives to either, collect them or feel good about your purchase.

Next to the XBL cards, they look long in the tooth and Playstation Plus is the new boy in town! More awareness, more smiles. Lets have fun Sony/Playstation!

  • dull update.. best thing is the themes

  • they honestly should have left those stupid mini games where they belong on the psp

  • Not impressive to say the least as usual.

  • ridiculous a discount for scott pilgrim thats ps plus exclusive i will never join that service it has separated the community

  • i went ahead and bought scott pilgrim the other week after waiting 8 weeks for a sale..past the 2 months it was previously out…anyways btw psn plus members…..if u get free games, they get taken back if ur subscription ends.. i believe in total ownership so basically its just for the sales which arent immpressive enough and i will never spend that much anyway im not negative ever except till today do u think i would have had time to get all trophies buying it on sale the day pixeljunk shooter 2 will come out? get real

  • @ 67

Scott Pilgrim does not have any online mode, so how is it splitting the community exactly?

  • Dear Sony: I know you mean well, but are you guys honestly paying attention to us anymore? I don’t want to turn this into a long-winded rant, but it’s hard to be a supporter when on the outside it appears the only thing you guys are doing is procrastinating and allowing the competition to trample all over you.

C’mon, what happened to the Sony of days past? Where is our cross-game chat and exciting new features? I mean, sure, the occasional ‘freebie’ is nice, but if I wanted to rent games, I’d subscribe to Gamefly.

  • So glad being a + member, what makes it better is LBP comes out. Gonna buy SP and Modern Combat

  • I hope to see more LBP content.

Otherwise, I’m happy with my PS+ Membership. Those who complain the most, seem to not even have it.

@70: If you knew anything, you’d know SCEA and SCEE can’t do anything drastic in firmware updates without SCEJ. They run the show ultimately and they’re stuck. Since Japan isn’t as heavy into those kinds of features people here and in EU want.

So cry more, because it’s totally going to help. Oh wait, it won’t.

  • Just got a ps3 for Xmas and the first thing I bought for it was the PlayStation plus. I am very happy with it. I have a Xbox 360 with over 100+ games and 75+ arcade downloaded games and a long time live subscriber. Which is $60 a year with weekly discounts and nothing free just to play games online. For $50 Bucks for 15 months of PlayStation plus I’ve already got Sam and Max which is like 5 games in 1 and not on the Xbox and lead and gold which was free and exclusive to the ps3. I don’t care much for the minis or ps1 games but still are fun. The dcu beta was fun and free little big planet content I can’t complain so far. Ill mostly be using my ps3 for exclusives and the PlayStation plus seems to be deliverying them. Xbox live $60 with nothing free vs. Psn+ $50 3 free games a month at minimum which equals at least 36 free games a year… I clearly see a deal here. Stop hating haters.

  • Boo-yah!

  • I would love to see more choices for avatars offered .. not just for the plus people but for everyone ..

  • Nothing good for me on this next update. I did love Tuesdays though. Just wondering were are free DLC for the month is. There wasn’t any Tuesday and there isn’t any for this next Plus update. Can we get some answers please.

  • Amazing people think PLUs is a good service, there is a reason xbox in one gen went from last place to ahead of sony. sony is so far behind online features and services its laughable. Plus is garbage.

  • I support + all the way. I’ve been in 5 diffrent betas and got a ton of free games. The discounts on games are great to. I just wish I could get a discount on Motor Storm PR DLC been waiting for a sale for a long time on that..

  • @70, I don’t think there is anything saying there if free DLC every month with ps+.

  • Scott Pilgrim, sweet !!!

  • @79: I was trying to find the article that said there would be free DLC every month but couldn’t find anything. I did find this other article that has James Thorpe saying we would get free DLC with Plus each month but then retracted the statement later in a different post saying he was incorrect and sorry for confusing people.

  • @77: Yeah, because of impatient consumers and cheaper hardware. That’s it. That’s why the 360 is ahead.

Also, sales =/= quality. If that’s the case, Wii Play is better than most PS3 games period. Since it sold more it must be better ammirite? Of course not, which is why you’re wrong as well. And I’ve actually played Wii Play, it’s not terrible but it’s certainly a throw away minigame collection lumped in with a wiimote, which is the only reason it sold in the first place.

If you don’t like PS+ then fine, don’t buy it. It’s not required and it’s not meant to be.

  • European subscribers to Playstation Plus get BORDERLANDS plus full DLC as their feature game and North America gets SAM & MAX ??? I want to thank the gamer that left the comment that brought this to my attention, except I’m so irate now my keyboard is shaking… Borderlands is a kick-ass mature title that up until 2-3 months ago, still sold for $50-$60, Sam & Max wasn’t worthy enough to even become a disc-based title. I want to trade Sam & Max for Borderlands IMMEDIATELY. The difference in quality and desirability of titles here is obvious and glaring. Sony what do you have against North American gamers to short change us like this ? Does anyone from Sony really want to try and convince me that these two titles are on par with each other ? Come on Sony, equal investment, equal treatment. We should have at least been able to choose. Borderlands is a game I know I’ll end up shelling out some cash for, Sam & Max, ok for free, but I’ve had it downloaded for a couple weeks now, and I’ve tried it, but it just can’t hold my attention over mature titles I’m playing like Fallout New Vegas, or Bioshock 2: Minerva’s Den. This one really stings Sony…

  • That’s so cool! I was wondering are you guys going to get new avatars from games that came out on psone and ps2 and some ps3 games that would be cool to have them as Avatars like Okami from ps2 Avp from ps3 and some re5. Doesn’t anyone else argee? I mean it would be cool:D

  • playstation plus rulez!!!

  • Disappointed with this months PS+ freebies. Loving the service, just agree with others when they say: Less minis, more biggies.

  • with ps+ ANYTHING you BUY, like dead nation (Discounted) you get to keep even after your subscription runs out. and i cetainly have no peoblem buying another year subscription after my current one runs out. heck $49.99 1 year 3free month sub and i have gotten back $10 in just one month of content (This month $60) so i have no prob paying $49 for something that will save me hundreds of dollars, especially the demos and stuff will pay off this year as new games are released! ps+ is a great service that actually pays you! e.g i have put $49 into plus, i have gotten over $195.50 back! ps+ is well worth it and is only getting better
