  • Ive been waiting for this game for the playstation 3 since I saw that sweet tooth wallpaper by playstation, Thanks Jaff Man no matter how you go about this game your original twisted metal players are going to be gratefull, and add the original twisted metal to the playstation network with a couple avators of the Tooth.

The only thing that ever sucked about twisted metal was no online multi player so at this point this game is a solid heavy hitter thats gonna make everybody happy

  • Yo and I want a trophy for the first sucker I hit with my flaming chainsaw!

  • Jaffe you rock man. And after you are done with Twisted Metal. Please deliver to the fan another awesome original ideal.

  • Most TM fans have a toss up between TM Black or TM2 being the best in the series. I personally love Black the most because of the single player gameplay, environments, and the dark stories of the characters. The CG cut scenes were amazing! TMB was one of my favorite games of all time. I am just hoping that the new TM is more like Black.

  • Twisted Metal has always been a very entertaining franchise in terms of gameplay because its a shooter that never stops moving. A shootout in twisted metal instantly turns into an intense chase. One tries to kill the other before he turns the tables, which could be around the very next corner if they are good enough. That is where the skill comes into play. It isnt just finding a spot and camping there, its always looking for the next way to change the tide of a fight. Thats why i love it

  • Thanks for keeping it real David. No bullterds like most developers PR efforts.

  • Wow, a non-swearing version of Mr. Jaffe? I, along with anyone who follows you on Twitter, am completely, utterly, totally speechless. :)

Merry Christmas, and a Twisted new year!

  • Thank you so much for answering our questions, Jaffe. I’m glad to see the series finally come to the PS3. I wouldn’t be the same gamer without Twisted Metal, I can tell you that much. Listening to some Sugar Ray while slurping up an Icee from the 7/11 and playing Twisted Metal 2…ah, the good times…

I played some Twisted Metal 1 for Christmas eve and it felt so good to blow up Scott Campbell again (lol)

I can’t wait to hear what kick ass soundtrack you have lined up for the new game, (I’m hoping to hear freeway free4all once again)

Jaffe, once you get this thing done me and you need to 1v1 on Twisted Metal 2 for the PC, man.

Long live Twisted Metal and long live Twisted Metal alliance

  • I forgot to add in my last post. I’m all for ESP’s next project to be a new PS3 version of Flashback. =)

I’m also for the next Twisted Metal to be that cancelled Apocalyptic one.

Long live Twisted Metal and long live Twisted Metal alliance

  • Couple of questions: Are you guys remaking any old maps from previous games for Twisted Metal on the PS3? I’m guessing that later on you will release DLC… I love singleplayer and now a days it’s only multiplayer DLC. Any Plans for singleplayer DLC? Thanks!

  • Thanks David Jaffe and PS Blog team. (Hey, how about a Killzone 3 skin for the blog or something more time-appropriate than Uncharted?) For my perspective, I’m 22 years old and haven’t played any Twisted Metal, but Mr. Jaffe’s personality on Twitter has been very enjoyable and I look forward to learning more. Fan feedback is excellent, but I’m glad Mr. Jaffe and his team are around to use their own judgement when it comes to the crucial issue of balancing multiplayer modes. Have cautious holiday travels.

  • I know you probably wont have time to read all these, but I hope you make it to mine. I’m not going to wing out some stupid cheesy crap to get your attention, I’m just going to tell you my story and what kind of effect you and your team have had on my life. My parents were divorced when I was 5 years old. I had every other weekend to see my dad and that was it. When I did get to go see him He would always go spend most of the day in a bar and would bring me along. Now don’t judge him he was a great guy and the greatest dad there was. When we did finally have “our time” together, we would spend it in front of his playstation playing Twisted Metal. We had all of them. You have know idea how special that time was to me because he passed away when I was 10 years old, on my mom’s birthday. I sat by his bedside in the hospital, holding his hand as he flatlined. When I think back about our time we had playing YOUR game it makes me happy because I know we were playing the best damn game there was. There was just nothing else that could compare to the feeling I got from playing Twisted metal especially with him. Strait to the point Dave, I and my father thank you, for the “Greatest Game ever Played”.

  • I know it’s a tough business and current gen games cost enough to bankrupt a small country but I hope you guys will learn from Square-Enix. Make the best damn Twisted Metal you can make and don’t worry about how to appeal to a bigger market. Square still makes good games that are technically proficient, but they seemed to have lost the heart and soul of what made their games outstanding. “If you build it, they will come.”. I know it’s easy for me to say cause I don’t have any “skin in the game”, but a lot of us have faith in your talent and want to see the best Twisted Metal and not the Twisted Metal that will appeal to the larges demographic.

  • Ah well I gotta say. Jaffe you are awesome. There’s loads of reasons I want the new TM but the main reason has got to be the fact that you haven’t neglected split screen unlike a lot of other devs this gen. This time last year I didn’t even know what TM was but after seeing a few videos of the old ones I suddenly remembered car combat games. God that nostalgia feeling really is awesome. Never played any on the PS2 but played it on the PS1 and you might be thinking “you just said you didn’t know what it was” well what I meant by that was that the name didn’t ring any bells. I must have been like 5 y/o when I played it lol.

    /lifestory

Anyways, thanks for answering the questions and essentially confirming my purchase :D

Oh and who said it isn’t popular in Europe? Please don’t try to change it in any way and stick to the classic formula!

  • I was born in 1986. Twisted Metal made me fall in love with video games, plain and simple. I love cars and I love destruction. This bridged that gap that I needed and gave me a fantastic source for fun and safe entertainment! It was phenomenal playing. I tried all the others which included Felony 11-79, Interstate series, Destruction Derby, Vigilante 8, Rogue Trip, Critical Depth, etc…and Twisted Metal was number one and the rest left me wanting more in one way or another. Now I am 99% the last two were made by SingleTrac in some way but I am not 100% sure. Anyway, I own all of the TM series and I love Twisted Metal. It truly was the perfect amalgamation of code and graphics that emulated what I envisioned, as, the perfect game. My great childhood memory is full of playing Twisted Metal with my best bud for hours on end. Thank you for the great game and I look forward to more, David, I thank you, sir.

  • Could you please add at least one soccer character(Real soccer player, if possible) to get EU’s attention. I know i would love that! Zlatan ibrahimovic isn’t a bad choice!

  • TM1 was the very first game i ever played on PS1 and i can safely say has led many hours ignoring such responsiblites including homework, chores, and once TM3 comes, probably a couple of days of work. Ah, the memories.

  • Oh man, I used to love playing TM2. It was one of the few games that my two brothers and I played together when we all lived together, that and Golden Eye, of course :P. I can’t wait for this new one. We all have PS3s so I’m sure we’ll all pick it up and relive those old days. Thanks so much for bringing the franchise back, gaming just hasn’t been the same without it. Keep up the good work and I hope to see more of these little Vlogs in the future. Now, give me one of those figurines, signed please.

  • I love Twisted metal ever since it came out. ALways go against my cousins or we team up lol.

I want to win the figure signed please :D

  • Ant chance we will see some environmental destruction? The last great vehicle combat game I can remember that had it was Battle Tanx Global Destruction.

  • I have a few questions

1)Do you have any area specific specials like maybe a power that causes a nearby volcano to erupt or something?

2)What is the scale of the destruction, can any building be leveled, and how epic will that destruction be(any falling skyscrapers or other massive structures?)

3)Are there still special arenas, like the bedroom level in TM4?

4)How is the vehicle damage, and to what visual extent does it show

  • Twisted metal history: From the Philippines

I remember the days where all of my cousins stays at who ever’s house and we always bring a copy of Twisted Metal. We play from morning till late late night (at 3AM). Playing multiplayer non-stop. And if some of us eats or something, there’s always one of us who sneaks in to play some single-player. Lol those days were a child’s paradise. TY Twisted Metal for bringing up an awesome history ^_^

Here’s a phrase I will always remember during childhood during the TM days.

“Tara, TMP tayo” which means “Come on, let’s go do a Twisted Metal Party again”. Classic :'(

If I ever win the figurine. I want it sign ^^. ty

  • Just to add my previous post:
I want it signed because I can show it off my cousins some day (maybe a family gathering) and tell them. “Look I got a Twisted Metal figurine signed by the makers or team”. They’ll freaking go crazy xD.

Then we’ll end the day by playing some good’ol Twisted Metal series and the new one(PS3) :)

  • OMG Dude You would make my Christmas way too AWESOME if i got one of them Sweet Sweet Tooth Figures, and Autographed Too DUDE Please I Know You Heard this before but IM Your Biggest Fan I Own All The Twisted Metal Games Even Small Brawl. Ill Take Your Dogs For A Walk, Wash Your Car, Do Your Laundry, What you need let me know. ? Ok I do got one suggestion though is to please make the game with a selectable Soundtrack so i can play all my favorite Heavy Metal Tunes While I Twist Some Metal. Cant Wait Ive Been Hyped since the anouncement at the sony press confrence

  • I am a hardcore fan of the Twisted Metal series. I played them all and hooked. It is the kinda game you can talk trash to and have a great time. I love the single player campaigns. The stories are just awesome. This game could make a great movie. When the PS3 game out I was praying for a new Twisted Metal. I had a feeling @E3 you were gonna announce the game but were trying to deny it. When I saw the video I went nuts. I cannot wait to play this game. With better online play from about ten years ago with TMB and now downloadable content. This new TM can go far and beyond. I have a feeling it will be your best work yet and lots of people are gonna be buying this game. I’d buy TM merchandise if you had it. Figures, t-shirts, cars. Sweettooth is the [DELETED]!!

  • Nice seeing you again Jaffe! Feels like it’s been forever since you stopped doing your video blog!

Unfortunately, I’ve never had the chance to play Twisted Metal. But I’ve heard nothing but great things about it! So my question is, when designing the game, were you thinking more of longtime fans of TM, or did you consider newcomers to the series?

  • I always loved Twisted Metal its one of my favorite video game franchises ever. I am so glad that you guys are bringing back the series. Its been gone on consoles for too long its a fast paced car chase and who the hell doesn’t like that.

The insanity of the characters and the comical lightheartedness the series provides is awesome. And lets face it the world needs a little more Twisted Metal. I talk to a lot of kids just getting into video games and they don’t even know about Twisted Metal. I hope this game brings both Twisted Metal and car combat in general back.

Anyway cool post hope this game turns out great and 1 question do you think that Single Player DLC is something you will consider? Like a Twisted Metal World Tour expansion that gives a more traditional experience for those who might want it?

  • I know this has been a big thing lately with Black Ops and all but will Twisted Metal have any personalization features (other than say, choosing a vehicle and then choosing a character) in multiplayer? I really can’t see a bunch of Sweet Tooths driving around everywhere all willy-nilly.. Also, will there be any upgrade features or perhaps some sort of rewards system for multiplayer (e.g. new characters, new vehicles, new color schemes)?

  • I have a question will there be a kratos dlc you know like play as him that comes with a kart only he can drive?

  • My favorite past time special is the spectre missle will it be returning?

  • Im not really here for a figure just looking to find out more about the game. Used to play twisted metal for ps1 when I was a wee lad looking foward to this new one. Happy holidays to all the people working on the game!

  • -Is Twisted Metal gonna support PlayStation Home? Like public space, free apartment in Home for playing the disc game like Batman Ak As did, reward items in Home from the disc game?

-Please have a separate update and install file in Game Utility for the game. This is if the game will have them.

-Youtube support, in-game screenshot support, move support, sixaxis support for the game?

  • David Jaffe, I think that when you gave an Xbox 360 owner a PS3 just to play the new Twisted Metal was a little sweet toothy and awesome! Not only did you save him the trouble of saving up his hard earned cash to buy a Playstation 3 console, you Mr. Jaffe, also gave him the privilege of experiencing one of the most anticipated PS3 game of next year. I give you props for that. Just by hearing all of the new Twisted Metal information provided in the video above me I have came to the conclusion that I will be pre-ordering Twisted Metal with my christmas money just to support all your teams efforts in crafting an awe-inspiring video game. Can’t wait till Twisted Metal gets released next year. Keep up the good work David!

  • “I was out like the dying heartbeat of a little girl…”

“come the night of my execution, there must have been over a thousand people gathered outside to watch me fry … I was … upset about that. There should have been more!”

“He told me if I drink it, my curse would be over. But he also said, if I ever returned to my killing ways, the antidote would ware off, and the curse would come back to haunt me. I had to decide.

It took me all of 10 seconds. *antidote bottle cracks* Lets face it boys and girls. A man has to have his priorities.”

Just some of my favorite SweetTooth quotes :)

  • Twisted metal 2 is the only one I’ve played, but it was really fun. Looking forward to the major leap to the new one. All the multiplayer stuff sounds awesome, can’t wait!

  • It all sounds amazing. I was more about single player and far less about the multiplayer in the other games because I loved the story. I’m glad you guys put a ton of effort into them :D.

  • Oh man I’m late :( anyway, I remember my parents taking me into a local gaming store for my birthday. They said I can pick whatever game I want! So I’m looking on the shelf’s literally judging books by its cover, but then I got to twisted metal. The cover really caught my eye, I was speechless! So I told my parents to buy me that one, They looked kind of hesitant (because i don’t usually buy play racing game) but the said OK :D I can remember myself reading the back of the case and flipping through the manual, just hyping myself to play at home! Then finally I popped the disc in and had the ride of my life! Then I purchase twisted metal 2, 3, and 4, and they where where just filled with fun! but sadly i missed out on the ones on the ps2…But I again reunited with Sony by purchasing the ps3 hopping that a newer twisted metal will come out! And by surprise with 2010 E3 I was So EXCITED and speechless when I saw the trailer! I have to say David Jaffe ,you, and your team really out did your self’s with GoW and twisted metal series! you really inspired me to become a game designer myself! I hope that twisted metal for the ps3 will pack a punch just like the previous ones did!

  • Age: 14
    Location: Friend’s house

A stack of games sits in the corner – Jumping Flash, NFL Gameday, Loaded, Warhawk, Battle Arena Toshinden, Destruction Derby, Descent, and a few others. There is only one that we care about:

    Twisted Metal.

For MONTHS, every night was the same. My buddies and I would hang out, listen to music, meet up with some girls, whatever. But the night would always end the same way before we went home:

Crimson Fury vs. Spectre on the Rooftops.

That f****ing laser got me every time.

Me and my buddies bonded over some TM. Thanks for the memories Jaffe. Looking forward to the new one. Oh, and do me a favor – Tell Dylan Jobe to hurry the f*** up and announce the new Warhawk. I know you guys know each other. Peace!

  • Hey David. Will the offline multi-player have an option to add some computer cars for a larger offline game?

  • I used to play TM2 when I was about 6 or 7 and my uncle used to come to town and he had other Twisted Metal games that we’ve never played before. I got my PS2 I got TM Black, and my brother and I spent so many hours beating the campaigns and deciphering minions messages. I later got a PSP and even bought TM Head on as on of my first games. Eventually I got my PS3 and to curve my TM appetite I bought TM2 from the store, and now I play it on my PSP and PS3. Oh and I forgot to mention TM2 is my favorite game ever!

  • I have a sereious problem, every time I hear Rob Zombie on the radio I think TM.

Can’t wait for any sorta news on the soundtrack for TM ps3.

  • I think you should have DLC with characters form other Sony franchises. Wouldn’t it be cool to play as a Helgast or something like that.

  • Right on dude.

I’ll be honest, for me the Twisted Metal online stuff kinda took out the arcady fun found in the previous entries. I don’t mind some good online matches, but for car combat I kinda like the single player approach with a just a little dash of story telling and adventure. I guess for online stuff, I like games that are more multi-role. You know, tanks, planes, on-foot…da woiks. I suppose that does not work in this scenario since it is all about car combat. I hope I am wrong and that we are not just limited to the confines of the vehicle. I’m not talking more GTA, but something like a bailout feature with the ability to enter/commandeer another vehicle before yours explodes or something. If you had that in multiplayer I’d certainly hop in it. That’s the kind of stuff that keeps me going back for more Warhawk.

I’m stoked to hear about the single player campaign. I could really use some awesome right about now.

  • If i had a question it would be…RELEASE DATE!?!?!..I GOT A “SWEET TOOTH” FOR THIS GAME..:p Mod-nation Racers is my only substitute for my RACING/ACTION needs..and i know its no comparison..but when you are rollin as SWEET TOOTH in his ICE CREAM TRUCK..i get flashbacks of playin TM:BLACK..very fond memories :) i was originally going to write…”TWISTED METAL FTW!!
I WANT MY SWEET TOOTH SIGNED THANK YOU! :p”..but i didnt want to sound too immature :/

  • Heres my great post, worthy of being in the top 10 posts.

David, here is a big problem I see with the new twisted metal game you are currently working on, the camera needs to have some wobble in it. Having the car/vehicle locked in the center detracts from the immersion. I know other games have done it but there is a reason why they have done it. You need to have shaky cam/pain wobble in the new twisted metal game. Trust me, it will add to the experience.

Next, I hope this is already being implemented but just in case, please include a deep customization for online gameplay. Im talking cars, characters and weapons. Make the player feel a sense of ownership and achievement in the game.

Finally, this is a big one for me personally; please support the game post launch. Im talking patches/updates if needed, DLC, etc. Dont leave the community hanging. I personally would love to see both online and offline expansions to the game, not just new skins/maps for the online play.

    Thanks,
    lswanson1

P.S. I would have written more had it not been for the character limit.

  • Maybe the dingo ate your baby! then took the greyhound (get it) out of town. haha.

  • Hey David, do you know Sweet Tooth’s favorite ice cream flavor?
My money’s on “Death by Chocolate”.
    http://creamery.psu.edu/products/food/death-by-chocolate

  • who doesn’t love pure nasty gritty blow it up car combat?!?!?!

  • David Jaffe
Thank you for the great video. I’m very excited about the game.
I saw your comic-con video and you talked about having a linear level and the one you showed looked awesome. Usually in games today I’m not a big fan of a linear style but for a game with cars I’d definately like to have some spyhunter moments of just racing down a long road shooting and blowing up stuff.
I just wanna ask and make sure that multiplayer level made the cut cause I loved the length and layout you had set up.
    -Thanks from Vex

  • Dear Twisted Metal team,

I have been a PlayStation exclusive gamer for years I’ve picked up dozens of Ips, including Uncharted, Timesplitters, Ratchet and Clank, Gran Turismo, and many more. One if not the most important series to me is the Twisted Metal series.
My brothers were always phenomenal at video games (Compared to me). My cousin would come over and bring his “boomerang” back in the day and we would play quake or red faction. I always had the great luck of being the worst player and generally ended up running into a wall and blowing myself up. I quite frankly was terrible, but then my cousin brought over Twisted Metal 2.
I am not going to tell you I fell in love with the Twisted Metal series because I am an amazing player. I was and still am quite the opposite. That was the great thing my brothers were rubbish players too. To me Twisted Metal was the game where I could play with my brothers and even if we didn’t do well we still had a blast, because I wasn’t always getting the snot kicked out of me and the game always gave us something to laugh about no matter how bad we did. It became our daily routine to get home from school and finish our homework so we could play some Twisted Metal.
