Burn your Dread: Persona 3 Portable Signed Soundtrack Drawing!

1,352 24

Allow us to get your week on track, PlayStation.Blog readers. SOUNDtrack, that is. SIGNED soundtrack, even. That’s right, we’ve got 10 soundtracks graced by the pen/magic marker/writing instrument of one Shoji Meguro, master composer of games like Persona 3 and Persona 4, and we’re giving them away. Here. Just to you folks.

Persona 3 Portable for PSP -- original soundtrack

“How do I enter?” you inquire, leaning forward in excitement. Easy! Just tell us what you’re most excited about regarding the upcoming P3P as a comment under this post. Maybe it’s the fact that you can take one of the highest rated RPGs of all time on the road now? Or the cast of memorable characters you just can’t get enough of? Or the dating sim elements? The fantastic music? The great art? The addicting gameplay? The original story?

10 lucky winners will be randomly (or as close to randomly as possible) chosen and sent a SIGNED soundtrack CD. Only North American residents are eligible to win, however. It’s not that we don’t love you rest-of-the-world’ers; we just want to focus this giveaway on the region in which the game is actually releasing.

Why are we doing this? Well, we’d love to use this opportunity to remind you that:

    a) Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 3 Portable, Atlus’s upcoming handheld RPG epic, is right around the corner, releasing in stores and via PlayStation Network on July 6th.
    b) It features one of the best soundtracks ever, and in order to further emphasize that point, we want to give a few of those soundtracks away. SIGNED.

In case you all are a bit unfamiliar with the P3P soundtrack, perhaps we should share a sample with you:

“The music seems awesome,” you say, pensively prodding your chin with your finger, “but I’m not guaranteed to win it. I just wish there was some cool bonus with Persona 3 Portable that I was guaranteed to receive.”

Funny you’d say that, because there’s still time to pre-order your copy of Persona 3 Portable at a participating retailer (GameStop and Amazon in the United States and Canada) and receive a collectible Junpei Baseball Cap. It’s modeled after the one he wears in the game!

Persona 3 Portable: Pre-order bonus (Junpei cap)

“Wow, they’re sure giving us a lot of physical awesome to celebrate the release of the game, but what about the game itself?” you muse aloud to no one in particular, gently tapping your pointer fingers together in front of your mouth.

We’ve already told you in previous posts about how Persona 3 Portable puts you in the shoes of a team of gifted high schoolers forced to use their developing supernatural abilities to save the world from destruction, and how the game cleverly mixes addicting RPG dungeon crawling with social sim elements. And how the PSP system release introduces a new female protagonist who experiences the events of the game from a new perspective, not to mention the addition of one-button menu shortcuts, a streamlined user interface, and more.

We’d say more about the game, but really, why not let others speak for us? Early reviews are in, Blog readers, and they’re glowing:

Gaming Nexus – A
“Atlus added enough new content to make this the first must-own PSP RPG of the year!”

Gamervision – 10 out of 10
“Persona 3 Portable is one of the strongest games in the PSP catalogue, and a shining example of a role-playing game done right.”

GamerTell – 99 out of 100
“Simply said, Persona 3 Portable is a system seller. If you own a PSP and can purchase “Mature” games, you should own it. If you don’t own a PSP, Persona 3 Portable is easily a game to inspire you to pick one up.”

PlayStation Illustrated – 95 out of 100
“It’s a fantastic RPG stuffed with things to do and interesting, yet unusual, ideas.”

1UP.com – A-
“I’d actually recommend Persona 3 Portable as the best introduction to the series — even ahead of the console versions of Persona 3 or Persona 4. But I’d also highly recommend P3P for longtime fans of the franchise…”

gamrReview by VGChartz – 9 out of 10
“PSP fans can rejoice that such a grand RPG has arrived on their system of choice…”

GameZone 8.5 out of 10
“…a solid version of a great RPG.”

  • I can finally take that game on the road. I beat the FES Version a little while back and the story was one of the best I’ve experienced in a while. But what I’m most excited about is the music. The battle music in particular bore itself into my head and I even learned the lyrics to the song that plays during the credits not knowing a bit of Japanese.

  • I preordered the game the moment I had the chance.

Naturally the thing I’m looking forward to the most is probably the same as everyone else purchasing the game: Being able to play the game I have loved and enjoyed (FES especially) from a completely different perspective. New social links with an entirely new main character makes this game all the more spectacular.

…That and when my friends ask me if I have a girlfriend, I can say I’m dating like six girls and sharing a dorm with three of them and not technically be lying.

  • The fgact that it is made by atlus japan is enough for me to want to play it. I also am looking forward to playing the game from a different perspective.

  • With P3P, I’ll be buying Persona 3 for the third time. Check out my screen name here. I think it’s safe to say that I’m getting this just to see more of my favorite video game character.

I actually have a custom-made Junpei hat already thanks to my wonderful boyfriend (and this was back before FES had come out, too), so I care more about the soundtrack than getting this hat.

  • I’m looking forward to the new redrawn maps and the female scenario. I’ve played through Persona 3 and FES and am really excited to get back into this again. Bring over P4 for PSP next! THANK YOU ATLUS!

  • Quite frankly, Persona 4 was the only JRPG I ever beat. Every other one was just too cliche for me to get through. Persona 4 came along and broke so many conventions for me. Its a wonderful game and I can’t wait to beat Persona 3 on the go.

  • Words cannot express how excited I am for this game. My biggest draw is the fact that I can finally get social links with the male party members, I loved that feature in P4 and it was my biggest disappointment in P3. :D

  • I’m in it for the heroine’s campaign

  • I can’t wait to play this game again. The music and artwork are incredible! This will be the third time I’ve bought it, but its totally worth it!

  • I’m excited that we get to play as a girl lol. xD

  • I’ve bought the orignal and FES version of P3.

Even still, I’m excited about the new female scenerio, as well as the new desert doors and the new difficulty level.

Anyways, I’m looking forward to this game come July. ^_^

Here’s hoping to getting a signed soundtrack to go with my hat. ^_^

  • I never had the chance to play the original but I’m super excited to play this. I’ve had a pre-order on this since May. I’ve heard too many good things about this. I have to play it.

  • I’m looking forward to new social links and the new secret boss

  • A chance to win that soundtrack, duh!

  • I’m a huge fan of Shoji Meguro (just been listening to his work on SMT Strange Journey recently) and his work on P3 was definitely different but in a good way. I own P3 and P3F, so you know i’ll be getting this one too. :3 Completing the collection so to speak! Although I do plan on playing it, because believe it or not, I have yet to beat the original game -_-;; THEREFORE I’m looking forward to playing it portably, and hopefully actually finish it this time :D

  • Oh man. This game is gonna own. I am so looking forward to it. Day 1 purchase for me.

  • TheDarkDreaming

Ahhh, let’s see what I’m most excited about for the upcoming P3P release… probably the Junpei Iori Cap!!! It’s friggin’ awesome, I can finally protect my dome from sunlight. No more sunburning for me delicate skin; I can rest in style.

Oh yeah, being able to play Persona anywhere is pretty neat too. But nothing compares to the cool hat.

    Nothing!!!

Yeah, I gotta calm down ’bout the hat…

  • Honestly, I love the idea of being able to show customers at my store one of the best RPGs released in a very long time in a easily accessible form and be able to share how good it is. Its hard to explain how good a RPG is sometimes and to have one of the best on the PSP will allow me to share its brilliance to anyone at anytime.

Everyone should play this game, and if you are a fan of an RPG of any kind, you owe it to yourself to experience this title.

  • Cant wait to jump into the female leads storyline and burn my dread all over again.

  • I am more interested in the female aspect of the game. As a person who has seen the male side, the female side would be fun too. I usually have a better connection to the girls in RPGs, so I think it would be by far more enjoyable. We will see. Atlus hates disappointing people.

  • Cool new game perspective!

  • I’m looking most forward to being a different main character/how that involves Aigis now. The music is always playing really loudly in my house thanks to my brother, so it will be a nice gift for him.
Stupei hat will rule, Stupei rules.

  • I’ve never played Persona 3 before but from looking at reviews and watching videos, I can tell that this is going to be THE BEST portable game to ever come out. While it’s the third game to come out of the persona series, I agree that it’s the best introduction to the series. The great character designs, the dating-sim element, the memorable music, the addicting gameplay, a story that could make you laugh, cry, and weep tears of joy are all elements that make the series one that everyone should know. I write this long comment to share to everyone the joy I’ve discovered with this series. Ever since I got Persona 4 as a gift, I’ve been in love with this series. I’ve completed the game more than 4 times, bought all the artbooks, bought all the games, and even have figurines of Naoto and Aigis. My only regret is not getting into the series earlier because I’ve missed the original Persona 1 and 2s, and Amazon’s special edition of Persona 4. While I may not get the soundtrack for writing this, I hope that all who read this know that I am in love with this series and hope that it becomes just as famous as other RPGs.
This is KuroYuuki eagerly awaiting Persona 3 Portable, my Junpei hat, and Altus’s release of: Persona 5.

  • SeekerofPower17

I have been a fan of the Shin Megami Tensei games for years. I learned Japanese just so I could play imported versions of the games that didn’t release in the US.
The story and depth of the characters is what continuously draws me to this series. Each character is deep and well fleshed out and brings a unique perspective to the story. The stories are always original and enthralling.
Top this off with killer soundtracks and stunning visuals, not to mention some of the best battle systems in RPGs to date, and I put this series as a whole in my top 10 game series.

  • The soundtrack is way cool. The game will be portable. What’s not to like?

  • I’m most excited about taking P3 with me EVERYWHERE!

  • I’m most looking forward to actually beating a version of Persona 3, I already have P3 and P3: Fes and just have been unable to beat them so hopefully the third times the charm. Of course, having a portable version will differently make it easier to have the time to beat this beast of a game.

  • I’m very excited for this for the sole reason that it is now portable. Despite having a lot of games, I find I have very little time for long console RPGs nowadays, so being able to bring it with me wherever I go in a portable form is easily the best part of this game.

  • Ive had this pre-ordered since day one. P3 is the best JRPG I have played and I cant wait play it again on the PSP.

  • Im excited just to play this for the first time, my friends all talked about it. I bought P1 just to get the feel for the game and I love it, Totally gonna get it signed at the anime conventions. Please let me win a copy <3

  • Simple. It gives me a chance to play a great RPG that I missed out playing on PS2.

  • I am so excited for this game, I have literally been sexually excited when i found out when this was announched, the extended social links and the new female charecters add more to the game, playing this game will make make me withdraw from the world and for two months delve into the world instead of doing other things. Also the addition of having direct control over the other party members mixes what was great between Persona 4 and 3. Also I am looking forward to the Yukiko from Persona 4 cameo in P3P. Also, I’m so excited to here new music composed by Shoji Meguro, I have listened to Persona music nonstop since persona one, the unique sound of the soundtrack really leaves an impression.

This would be an incredible honor, to get this, and the release of the game is inching closer and as the day comes closer I squeal like a little girl a little louder everyday. Ihave already preordered the game and am happily excpecting this game as everyday passes unable to contain my excitement. PERONA 3 PORTABLE!

  • Looking forward to how the new female Main will affect the story. *crosses his fingers for yuri pairings*

  • I am most excited about the fact that I am able to play P3 now! I’ve seen the first P3 and P3 FES in stores a few times, but by the time I picked up P4 and got into the series I couldn’t find it anywhere. When I heard of P3P I flipped out, and the moment I got my Atlus Faithful about P3P pre-orders I ran to GameStop that next day to pre-order. There isn’t anything about this I am not excited about, even a new female character role, P4 characters popping in, and new social links that weren’t available before now! A new hat to boot, I am counting the days down until I pick up my order!!

  • I can’t wait for this!!! This should be a sign to Sony. that PS gamers love our rpgs. Now stop making so many shooters and make some actual ps3 rpgs! You would of thought Sony would of realized this after the ps1 and ps2.. but the ps3 has been almost barren besides a select few jrpgs..

I hope Atlus saves the day like they did with demon’s souls, bring us Persona 5 on ps3 please!!! (oh and already commented about P3P…pre-ordered it a year ago. Can’t wait!!)

  • 1086 comments… you see Sony …. PlayStation gamers love our rpgs now have at it. (want some ps1 titles)

Atlus you guys rock on console and handheld!!! Can’t wait for p3p but bring over Class of heores 2 and 3 to the USA, along with Brandish psp please!

Also any Persona 5 or SMT news for PS3?

  • I’m psyched about the new main character. You take one of the best stories in recent RPG history and now allow you to experience it from the opposite gender’s perspective? Double Bonus. Plus a chance to win swag from one of my favorite games, signed by one of my favorite composers? Triple, maybe even quadruple bonus.

  • Are you kidding me? Persona 3 FES had me obsessed with the series that I went straight on to 4. Not only is the story line and gameplay addictive – but the voice acting is amazing. I actually cried when Shinjiro was shot. I’ve been waiting for the P3P version just so I could play as a girl. I’ve been waiting forever for this! I’ve had it pre-ordered and paid off for Months! That and I’m totally ecstatic about getting Junpei’s hat because I pre-ordered it!

  • Persona 3 and 4 are two of the best games I’ve ever had the pleasure of playing. The stories and characters captured my heart and sucked me in, both in incredible ways. My sister is a huge fan too and she is pumped beyond reason to be able to play the game herself with a female lead. She’s pumped for the Social Links with some of the male cast and I’m pumped to get a chance to play through Persona 3 for a fourth time… Yes a fourth time, that’s more hours spent on Persona 3 than I care to admit but hey, I’m still proud.

Sadly I have yet to own a PSP. No game has really made me jump out and grab one but with this and Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep, I may have to finally bite the bullet. Unless someone around wants to give away a PSP to a loyal and loving Playstation fan. :)

Regardless, I have already pre-ordered Persona 3 Portable, despite not having a PSP yet. If that’s not dedication, I don’t know what is. Possibly enough dedication to win a signed soundtrack? I’ll keep my fingers crossed. :)

  • Dice_for_Death_

I’m just exciting for the fact of a Persona title on my PSP that I can take on the go, to work or wherever else. Plus, I wouldn’t mind that soundtrack.

  • I’m REALLY looking forward to going back to the amazing cast and story of the Persona 3 universe. And it’s even better since the new female main character will add new twists to the story. Saying that I’m eagerly awaiting the release date would be an understatement.

  • I realy like the hat and the ability to fight bosses again. But im realy interested in the new story elements.

  • Thank you, Atlus, for getting me to purchase three different versions of the same game, though it’s one of my favorites, so I can’t really complain. ^_^

I’m really looking forward to playing as a female main character with some new S-Links.

  • I am stoked about taking this game on-the-go with me, and totally acting like a kook while I realize how they have meshed all of this Razz-ma-Tazz into a single PSP title.

    Phew! That’s hot!

  • I’m just excited that it’s another Persona title. I absolutely loved P3 and P4, and I can’t wait to relive some of the great moments from P3 again.

  • When I bought Persona 3 Fes I played it for a total of 55 hours and loved every minute of it. I can’t wait to play it again and enjoy it all over again.

  • I’m looking forward to playing as a female character, and to having another great game on the PSP in general.

  • As a fan of all the shin megami tensei series I have to say being able to carry around the third one is going to be pretty excellent. I am heavily considering buying a psp just for this game. I’ve played through persona 3 fes on my ps2 around 10 times. The soundtrack is just bilssful. I could listen to it for days, although I don’t have a copy (hint). Although persona 4 is a close second, persona 3 was just generally the best game I have ever played, there is nothing wrong with it. It was all balanced dungeon crawling and life sim. No elements were too heavy and non were too light. The release just brings new light and I might want to dust off the FES copy i have for my ps2… hopefully while listening to a new soundtrack lol.

  • What I’m looking forward to most is really an excuse to play through the game a second time, with a new character, and explore all the social links I never really got around to. Regardless of whether it’s different between the male and female versions, that’s something I’m looking forward to.

Persona 3 was my first introduction to the series, but since then I’ve tried to get my hands on every SMT game available to me. The soundtrack of the game is indeed memorable, not my favorite now that I’ve gone through more of the games. Devil Summoner arguably has my favorite soundtrack in the series, but regardless of what game it is I enjoy all of Meguro’s work and would love to have anything signed by him.

  • Looking forward to a great game that will satisfy my RPG cravings. My wife will read ebooks as I play my P3P.
