Incoming: Modern Warfare 2 Stimulus Package DLC Hits PSN Tomorrow

Tomorrow, May 4th, will be an onslaught of Modern Warfare 2 multiplayer goodness on the PlayStation Network!

First and foremost, the first downloadable content for Modern Warfare 2 — The Stimulus Package — will hit the PSN Store for $14.99 and bring with it five new maps to the multiplayer of MW2. Included in those five new maps are two classic Call of Duty 4 maps that we all know and love, and three completely new locations that offer a variety of unique locations for your favorite gametypes. The Stimulus Package includes:

Modern Warfare 2 Stimulus Package for PS3

Bailout – An American apartment complex that is amazing for objective gametypes, especially Capture the Flag, but one of those maps that works well regardless of what type of game you’re playing it on. Its long sightlines — like sniping from a blown-out wall of a second-story apartment suite — give it some nice spots for long-range sniping but also has plenty of flanking routes through the bullet-riddled gym, hallways, lobbies, and interconnecting units.

Salvage – A snowy junkyard covered in debris, crushed cars, and my favorite aspect — no place to hide (well, maybe one, but hiding in the dog house isn’t going to win you the game). This aspect of beautiful but simplistic design is what makes Salvage my new favorite map for Hardcore Team Deathmatch; it forces you to rely on your speed, accuracy, and skill. It’s all about offensive, sorry campers! This map is about getting in and STAYING in the fight.

Storm – A rainy warehouse district on the outskirts of a looming thunderstorm with booming lightning and rolling thunder. A massive interconnected warehouse with overhead walkways and plenty of machinery for cover makes this great for big team games. With plenty of surrounding outdoors areas for flanking or cutting through the connected buildings, this is a map that benefits from two teams working together to control their area and lock down domination points. This map has a great atmosphere and always results in some insane HQ games.

Crash – A war-torn urban environment with a crashed helicopter surrounded by several great vantage points. Whether you’re taking pop shots from the three-story building overlooking the map, or covering the center objective point from the second story of the appropriately named “blue room” windows, Crash is the first fan-favorite map to make a return from Call of Duty 4, and is one those multiplayer locations that is perfectly balanced regardless of the gametype you throw on it. Team Deathmatch is king on Crash for me personally and we’ve maintained every cover, sniper vantage, and perfect ‘nade spot you’ve grown to love, but have also filled the map out with even more detail.

Overgrown – A massive and open village divided down the center by a dried-up creekbed. Overgrown is a snipers paradise with its high grass, super-long sightlines, and earns its cred as one of our largest multiplayer maps. It’s back by popular demand from the community, and was one of my personal favorite maps of all time from Call of Duty 4. It’s been updated with some new lightning and atmospheric changes, yet maintains its trademark flow and appeal for big team games.

When you jump online to enjoy the new maps, you’re also going to be greeted with a few new additions to the playlists structure in multiplayer. You’ll notice two new playlists added to the bottom of the list: Stimulus & Stimulus Hardcore. These two playlists will allow you to play your favorite gametypes on ONLY the new maps. That way you get to experience them as much as you like.

Stimulus – This playlist will include all gametypes for 8-12 players and rotating through ONLY the new Stimulus Maps.

Stimulus Hardcore – This playlist will include Hardcore Ricochet Team Deathmatch, Hardcore Ricochet HQ Pro, Hardcore Ricochet Search and Destroy for 8-12 players and rotating through ONLY the new Stimulus Maps.

While these two playlists are reserved for those who download The Stimulus Package, the same day we’ll also be introducing an all new playlist for ALL Modern Warfare 2 players.

Team Tactical – 6-8 Players playing small team based games with Team Deathmatch, Domination, Capture the Flag, and Demolition. (First Person viewpoint)

This playlist is being added by HUGE demand from the community on our forums, Twitter, and other messages you’ve sent in to us; in addition to another requested change of adding the Ranger maps (Terminal, Skidrow, Highrise, Invasion) to the HC HQ Pro playlist.

When I said onslaught, I MEANT onslaught!

That’s not even all. When all these updates hit tomorrow on May 4th, we’ll also be flipping the Double XP switch for the first time, ON ALL PLAYLISTS, FOR ALL PLAYERS! So when you jump online you’ll be earning twice as many XP for your kills and objectives to help you finish off that Prestige you’ve been working on or, for all you level 70s, the deciding factor to take the leap into the next Prestige.

Tomorrow is all about adding even more mileage to your Modern Warfare 2 multiplayer, giving you all new locations to play, new playlists to play them on, and Double XP to make it all that much sweeter. I look forward to seeing all of you online!

  • Since you haven’t replied in a while, I’m guessing you aren’t reading these anymore…but if you are, any chance we can get a hard core mosh pit?

I’d love to have that, I like playing hard core, but I also like having the variety that mosh pit provides.

    • That is essentially what the Stimulus Hardcore playlist it. It’s the new maps, with Hardcore Ricochet rules, on a variety of gametypes.

I’ll look into the option to do it in non-stimulus playlists as well, but at this time, thats what will be available tomorrow.

  • death-reaper1983

first of thank you monster energy for my free map pack with that being said i have one question will it hit at mid night or just some random point in time tomorrow
    p.s. happy birthday Robert

    • Random point tomorrow (not random literally, but I don’t have an exact time frame). Also, thanks for the Birthday messages!

  • MAG is better

  • I sure do love getting my content a month later for $15, that’s all thanks to another boyout from Microsoft. I wouldn’t think it would be priced so high especially after getting a nice sum of money from Microsoft for exclusivity on their system for an entire month. Anyway, this is priced horribly, I can buy Burnout Paradise on the PS Store for just $5 more. Why would I want to spend $15 of MY dollars for some maps I have already played and a few new ones, especially on a game with a broken, camping enabled multiplayer. CoD 4 had the PERFECT multiplayer formula and it was messed up with lousy noob enabling perks and killstreaks. No wonder people are leaving Infinity Ward left in right… anyway, that’s my rant for the day.

  • @wwesuperstar
Yep its too much cause you have to pay for maps that you already have in cod4.
And mw2 is probably the worst online shooter ever, i never saw a game with so much glitch (still unpatched) on it.

    MAG FTW

  • Will there be a fix to the prestige hack? And maybe toning down the shot gun power?

  • Add me Dizzyd56

  • If they were 5 brand new maps $14.99 might be a decent price. But there being two old maps just makes it not worth it to me. I’ll wait for a price drop.

Good to see you posting here though, Robert. Don’t be a stranger. :p

  • fanboys, have u no shame?

  • $15 isn’t so bad…i’m looking forward to the CoD4 maps. I havn’t played them since MW2 came out. Can’t wait. :)

  • @jimfear

idk, it seems reasonable to me and i’m a Battlefield BC2 fan (although I play CoD occasionally). In the long run, you will most likely get more out of the MW2 dlc than you would buying smaller, cheaper DLC (that adds up), or downloadable games.

  • I’ve heard some rumors that you’re deleting the cage match from the game types is this true?

  • I know your not answering any more questions b/c you have already been working for 2 hrs and that’s going into overtime, but you should think about making an update were you can use third person all the time. Why do all the shoter games only have 1 option for your view? You play any racing game and they have 20 views to choose from so everybody can be happy playing their game. I guess you only have a select crowd for a reason and must be happy making [DELETED] games.
SOCOM will always be the best shooter game out!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I doubt you’ll read this Robert but just want to say I appreciate you staying at Infinity Ward. I don’t know all the details obviously but I hardly believe Activision is the only one at fault for the whole fiasco. Anyway just want to show you and the people who still remain at Infinity Ward some love because it seems very easy to follow the “leaders” and be on the good side of the media. I hope you guys now get some great promotion opportunities and prove yourself with your next game (if there’ll be one).

I’ll definitively continue to support you guys as long as you make great games and provide great content.

  • Will you include a turn off ‘Join Session’?
Sick of people joining my matches.

  • you gunna be on psn rob? thats cool whats your id

  • @imajinetion (#132)

    Wow, IW fails.

just some things to think about

  • Looking at MW2 with perspective (which is something a lot of you need), I think it’s fantastic for what it is. The best FPS since Goldeneye on the N64. ‘Bob’ Bowling isn’t replying to all the moronic comments because he’s an adult, who is part of a team who have done something most of you could only dream of creating. Credit where credit is due.

Also, you’re complaining about $3 a map with the frequency most of you play this game? Are you out of your minds? Allow me to elucidate the bigger picture here – this is just a game. Oh, gee! You had to wait a month later than other people to download this? What a crying shame. In that time you could have gone outside instead of masturbating in a dark room, playing your Playstations and eating cheesy snacks.

    Roll on puberty.

See you online Robert, good work.

  • Bastards… You do timed exclusive bs = I don’t buy. Saves me money and time. Besides, I traded this game in a looooong time ago. Lesson learned in not buying a game because my friends wanted me to.

  • No thank you.

  • lol @ $15 for 2 recycled and 3 new maps. If it add trophy support for said maps, THEN it might be understandable. This seems like something people will end up doing massive amounts of account sharing on. I think from a business point of view, making something like this for $5 or $10 would generate WAY more revenue as opposed to this absurd price tag.

  • pavelows will be fixed (pavelow kills never went towards your killstreak kills) when the maps come out so nows a perfect time to switch harriers with pavelows

  • FINALLY! The maps are coming out for PS3!
Although it is too expensive, I will still
buy it tho. A suggestion I would give to the
playlist is that all gamemodes should have Hard
Coreand also should have Ricochet, once this is
done you should separate them in 3 divisions:
Core, Hard Core and Hard Core Ricochet.

  • Ohh and one thing I forgot,
DON’T EVER DO THE TIME EXCLUSIVE.
    Thats just sucks!

  • Judging from the comments it seems as if your going to be on the PS3 for the launch of this (correct me if i’m wrong), will your PSN id be FourZeroTwo? Also regarding the recent merge of Activision with Bungie and the announcement of Call of Duty: Black Ops, do you have any comments?

    • Hey – I’ll definitely be on PSN when the maps launch. My PSN ID is fourzerotwoIW

As for the Bungie deal and COD:Black Ops, nothing to say that hasn’t already been announced.

  • How much are they going to cost in the uk?

  • Cant wait until tomorrow…. Also see you 2morrow

  • As someone who doesn’t play MW2, I’m glad that you’re working hard to give the people who DO have the game a great experience. Activision is getting a bad rap (I don’t really like them either) but you’re still devoted to your product and your company. I’m glad that you have a good game and work hard. Thanks for being a good gamer.

  • Notice how the screen shots don’t show you the XBOX d-pad. Too lazy to retake screen shots? Really IW? And where is our Dynamic theme you promised? Or some premium avatars? Not trying to complain, but we have give you $75 so far, and we don’t get crap.

  • I won’t buy or play another call of duty game until I see one with the following :
no glitches to exploit that take forever to patch ( test it properly before release )
no way to boost – have some way of detecting it and instantly boot people caught for 24 hours
    no prestige hacks
a good reporting system for those who are tired of cheaters
mods who actually do their jobs and keep it fair and honest

basically – bring the fun back to online gaming

  • Yung_Savage_inc_

When can we expect to see the PS3 Leaderboards Cleaned up? Tommorrow maybe? I have a few friends who were ranked top 100 till the hackers…

    please reply, Robert

    • Not tomorrow. We have to build a tool that allows for manual editing of the leaderboard entries (too risky to do mass edits, could delete legit players). So once that tool is finished, I’ll be going through manually.

  • To be honest, I would consider buying these just to keep the game fresh. MW2 is fun…as long as it’s Hardcore mode. If I play Core, then it becomes the ultimate bull**** game with Commando, Marathon, the annoying Intervention users who have no knowledge as to how a sniper rifle works….I HATE that.

But at the same time, I’m not the biggest fan of the price. But I could easily afford it, though. I’ll think about it….

But Double XP is nice. I haven’t Prestiged yet…maybe I should now. lol

  • I bought these maps on xbox360, its not worth it maps are terrible… 2 old maps from MWF this is a waste of money.. Very disappointing you all will find out…

  • Is Respawn the least bit tempting? (Or even offered?)

  • I like how this came out for PS3 a month later. No Thanks. If you can’t make these maps as equals with the 360, then why should I care about a game or developers that treat me like second class. Microsoft probably paid you guys to make it a timed exclusive. But you guys have such a huge fan base you would think that you would not have accepted that and thought about the players.

  • I think along with a couple new maps the best challenge to the game would be to change weather and times of day to all the exhisting maps. How cool would it be to play some of them at night :) Thermal, heartbeat vs cold blooded, scrambler, ninja… that would change strategy A LOT.

  • I will Buy them But I still think its a bit Overpriced even more expensive Than the COD4 Map pack and WaW Map Pack (Not all 3 WaW Packs only per 1)

  • You guys left Cod4 for the PS3 in the dust. NO TROPHIES and NO RUMBLE=GARBAGE

  • Mr. Bowling made a very good response with regards to the price. $15 may seem a bit steep for 5 maps, but that amount of money would barely get you past the concession counter at your local movie theater.

  • what time does the DLC for MW2 hit PS3 EST time?

  • 15$.. wow.
Uncharted 2 DLC only costs 3-6$.. and they have better quality than these.. By playability and quality. (no cheap textures)

3 new maps and 2 old maps (copy-pasta)

  • lostinplainsight

gouging people is an ugly thing my brother. charging $15 for three new maps and two hold overs just plain wrong. i know you have to tow the company line saying it’s a great value for your dollar i mean that’s what they pay you for but it don’t make it true.

well, back to battlefield where we get maps for free.
    enjoy that bonus money.

  • There is a lot of complaining going on here. $15, really? Drop the cash. Shut your pie hole. Enjoy the DLC. You’ve been EMP’D, electronics are down.

  • comen guys its not that much shud be gd add sum varity to da game

  • peperspraygrimme

    do you have a ps3?

  • as to the price 15 dollars is nothing considering the many days i have logged online. it breaks down to less then a quarter a hour. i could spend 15 bucks to sit in a movie for 2 hours. or get the map pack witch i know i will easly play for many more hours. my only gripe was the timelock wait.

  • peperspraygrimme

I also wanted to ask do we get the title and emblem updates like the xbox did? or was that just for them

  • Look i see alotta stupid people about jump off the cliff… The maps are terrible i personally bought them on the Xbox360 dont be a fool… You guys remind me of Crackhead its not worth it… Iam gamer but i hate seeing people get ripoff…

  • i think that it is insulting that not only as a PS3 owner i have to wait a month longer for than xbox for this to be available but now i find out its an extra day longer for those in the EU. i can only assume its because you lot all the need the fcuking practice
