It’s not often that buzz builds behind a news embargo, but judging by comments on the Blog, it seems a lot of you have been looking forward to hearing more about God of War III today. I’m happy to report that with the release of these screens and impressions of the game from last month’s New York preview event, you’ll be seeing GoW III updates much more frequently.
Back to last months’ event, we’ve been dying to share what we saw since we first laid eyes on this Titan-riding, boss-fighting segment of the game. We could tell you how awesome it looks (and plays), how insane the realtime rendering is, how huge the Titans and boss(es) are, but I’m sure you’d rather hear it from more impartial sources such as Destructoid and IGN (look for impressions from many other sites to hit today as well).
If the wait until God of War III‘s March release seems unbearable, I’m right there with you. We’re almost there, and we have MAG, White Knight Chronicles, and Heavy Rain to tide us over until then…
Any word on when the awful set of avatars on the PSN are going to change?
will the audio assets be 24-bit and/or losslessly compressed?
will we be able to listen to the soundtrack from the menus?
will the framerate be locked @ 60hz like Uncharted 2 was (to avoid tearing)?
will any of the trophies require more than one playthrough of the game?
will there be the 2x MSAA that’s become standard for games on the PS3?

I played the demo, and honestly, I wasn’t impressed. Graphics were okay, though after some of the games that have come out this year, I wasn’t as impressed. Controls, were good, but the fluidity of the characters just seemed off at some times. Like I would tumble away from enemies, and in that one tumble, I slid across the whole platform I was on. Just awkward motions at some points.
Just judging from the demo, I won’t be getting this game, and my friend who also played the demo said the same thing.
I just don’t see this being a game of the year, at any point. It wasn’t the best in graphics, nor will be, Heavy Rain still looks nicer, and gameplay wise, just ehh, nothing new or innovative.
If you want this game, in my opinion, just go get Heavenly Sword. It’s cheaper, the graphics seem slightly better, and it requires a bit more thinking to kill your enemies than just hitting the same buttons over and over again.
Sorry if this pisses anyone off, but as I said, played the demo, didn’t like it one bit, and I loved the other GoWs

The E3 demo was an earlier build, so you know the final build will be much better…
God of war is all good but why about heavy rain. I would like to know more about it and when is the demo coming??

Very nice screens, but we need to see the trailer. There is simply too many things that you cannot see from still screens that you can when seeing it in motion and while the screens are great, getting only 7 screens after listening to everyone going on and on about how epic the game is in motion and waiting a patiently for a month is pretty bs.
Now I know the trailer is there and could be shown at any time, but please at least tell us when the hell we can see it if ever. I know I speak for everyone that desperately wants to see the trailer when I say I don’t want to think it will be shown on GTTV or the Superbowl, or something only to be disappointed again like today.
Stop teasing and show the trailer, please!

This is why PS3 software sales lag behind the competition, some of you wouldn’t know a quality game if it broke into your house & baked you a cake. Just like all the “no 1080p native or locked 60fps = boo” posts I’m reading elsewhere. Pickiest fanbase I’ve seen, yet a cut ‘n’paste like COD:MW2 still somehow sells 4 million *facepalm*.
What are you people playing that’s soured you on GOW3, two months before it’s even out? I’m sure Sony would love to know as well. Wow. Heavenly Sword *shakes head*…
after playing the demo I will be picking this up, but I would like to see some more news on Bad Company 2. Since the Beta ended I have been forced to resort to MW2 lol

i heard the frame rate will varied from 30 to 60, omg i hate varied frame rate, it will hurt my eyes, i prefer stable one.

Because Dante’s Inferno’s visuals are gimped to allow it a locked 60 fps. That’s how it works. You gotta sacrifice something in the visuals (post processing, dynamic particles & lighting effects, on-screen intensity etc) to get that frame rate locked at 60 fps. Same reason KZ2 is 30 fps while COD does 60. COD is smoother but on a 52″ HDTV, it also looks like a Saturday morning cartoon in comparison. That’s the sacrifice they made among other things, and in the end I was still more impressed with KZ2’s presentation. It’s easier to sell/tell the best graphics of this gen than the best frame rate.
Some games even have to run at sub-HD native resolutions to keep it all together. Odds are you own a few and didn’t even know it. Nothing to lose sleep over.
If GOW3 never dips below 30 (which is an industry standard for quality) but can still go up to 60 when moments allow, it’ll play great.

I wish someone would give more information on the ultimate edition, especially about the box. Will it be 3D, will it be cardboard, ceramic, plastic, gold, titanium…. Is there anything else coming with it other than what was said already (music soundtracks really dont impress me ;) )? Still wish it would be a theme dvd case of one of the Blades of Chaos, like they had the dvd themed cases for Transformers, Star Trek, etc.
I want to preorder the ultimate set, but not until I hear some more gritty details :)

I really don’t understand why Sony isn’t publishing the video of that demo. Screens have been officially published and previews of that demo are mere descriptions of what the video was.
An update with this video can’t come soon enough after this.

What exactly do you mean that its native resolution is 720p with 1080 support? Do you mean 1080i support? I want my true 1080p experience!
native resolution is 720p, but it will upscale to 1080p and most likely 1080i also.
This game shall be…… EPIC. and it comes out 3 days before my birthday. Not having to pay for the game shall be even more… EPIC

Hey PS Blog team! I’m not sure if you guys work with the Qore team but it would be FANTASTIC if there was a Qore episode devoted ENTIRELY to God of War III!!! I’m sure it would garner a lot of purchases if you guys did that!
is it just me? or is sony dominating this year? MAG, Heavy Rain, GoW3 to name a few…and that’s just the BEGINNING of the year.. GoW3 is gonna be EPIC..I just hope that Santa Monica Studios put enough into this to keep players interested. The past 3 games haven’t failed to impress because they showed the full capabilities of a system [1/2 on PS2, CoO on PSP], lets hope this one does the same for the PS3.
I hadn’t really paid much attention to God of War until just recently, but I got the chance to properly preview the series by trying out the God of War III demo. I’m not much for this type of game, but the action was intense and the cinematics were great. I also enjoyed it’s mythological background. That aside, it’s really not my type of game. But I can see why it’s got a lot of critical acclaim and why people are anticipating it so heavily…
Can’t Wait for this game i played God of War Collection and loved it now just wait a little bit and God of War III goes in my PS3.
You should make this demo available to the ones who actually bought the God of War Collection.

you cant be serious!? thats a really dumb thing to say. If you had any common sense, you would know not to judge a game that was unfinished so heavily. I really liked heavenly sword, but come on, this game will blow heavenly sword away in ALL areas. You know what, if your so dumb that you want to make dumb assumptions that it wont be great, then i really dont care because you’re the one who’s gonna miss out, not us.
