Just a quick note to let you know that firmware update 3.15, an optional update that was released in early December, is now a mandatory update. You can read about the contents of the update in the original post here.
In addition to the features that were communicated back in December, the update also improves system stability during use of some PlayStation 3 software. If you’ve already performed the update, there’s no need to do anything. If you are using an older version of the firmware, you will be prompted to update when you start up your system and when you access any network features.

I know you work hard making the ps3 even better than it is all the time, and there are a lot of users out their that want different things done. There are many kind of ps3 models, and could that be the reason that some having problems after updating.
i still have 2.53 firmware and my system works perfectly, i really don’t go to playstation home or web site on my system mainly just watch movies and my kid plays some games, store music and pictures. i would like to update but have been hearing that systems are being “bricked” from this new update(and others). so what do i do, take my chances or just leave it the way it is. i have an 80gb CECH01. please help
While it is nice that you are making Firmware updates, please fix the browser causing the PS3 to freeze issue. There are posts about it in the forums and since 3.10 It is near impossible to view the PS3 Blog, like I did daily, from my PS3 as it causes the system to freeze forcing a forced shutdown. Please address this issue.

A. No. the chances of it bricking your system due to updating is very slim to none..last time i checked it wass .0001 percent,
I repeat do not leave disk insde our system during updates. donot shut the console off, do not hit xmb button unlessed asked to from the screen.
If your console connection goes out, it wont hurt your console..

Hello sony keep up d great work! In the next update can you please make the in game xmb feel more seemless by drastically reducing the load time, just make it instant. Also can you d the same for the gamer cards. Its wierd when u see gray then d color of choice just all of a sudden pop up it rlly irritates me. Also can we have some more features that work across all games like cross game chat in game music. So pretty much all i want is things to be instant on ps3 no load times or anything! not even on future features. anyways keep up the great work. The ps3 has come a very long way since 2006.

Question: Data Transfer Utility is the way to backup you’re system to a new system.
But what if i take the hard-disc from the old ps3 out and insert it in a newer ps3 that you just bought?
Will the ps3 allow that, so you keep all stuff “locked save games etc” from the old without doing a Data Transfer?.
just adding myself to the list of people who’s ps3 isn’t working post 3.15. i’m not sure if 3.15 is totally the problem, since i just bought the 120gb ps3 slim yesterday, ran through the install, and played fallout for several hours. today i took my ps3 to a different location, tried it on two SD TV’s and one old sony CRT/DLP HDTV and i have no image, no sound, and my controllers won’t work. what gives?

* Make sure the system is off.
* Hold down the Power Button for 5-6 seconds – until you hear the second beep.
* That’s it, your video settings are reset and you should be able to choose your input and configure it from there.

If it was doable they would have done it right out the gate. In-game the XMB has far less resources than out.

No. It will all be erased. Otherwise people would just make copies of harddrives to copy downloaded games.
You MUST go through the backup/transfer options.

That was the first thing i tried, several times. What gets me is that it’ll take a disc, and eject it, but won’t interact with my controllers, USB cord or not. I’m on hold with Sony support right now. I have full confidence they’ll provide my solution.
Updated to 3.15 and now it seems that any omline game content is no longer working. My internet connection is fine, I can use the browser and I pulled down an update to a game with no problem. However if I try to play multiplayer with FIFA 10 or try to access Playstation Home the system hangs. I had no problem doing either of these beforehand. Any suggestions as to what to do to fix this?

My system was fine before the update. Now it freezes after about ten to fifteen minutes of play. What gives?
Among reasons why I have refused firmware updates since 2.80
* Reports of bricked systems
* Reports of those that no longer play discs
+ no official word as to why OR if only certain models are affected (at least none I’ve seen).
* Instead of additional video format support, less.
I read the blog responses every time I new update is released & each time I’ve seen complaints about one or more of these.
I’m very happy with my PS3, but my family uses our PS3 for movies (BD, DVD, Netflix streaming & archived video files) more than anything else AND we cannot afford to put out $100+ for disc player repairs, much less a whole new unit because of any ‘mandatory’ update.
I guess we just won’t be visiting the PSN store any time soon. Whose loss is that? Sony’s.
I would LOVE to get a response from a Sony rep on the possible implementation of this feature.
Any chance in the future it would be possible to “format” our PSN id’s? What I mean by that is to change the case of the letters. For example. I chose my name as TMC2k1, but I would love to be able to make the letter “k” capitalized. I have talked to a lot of people about this and they would like to be able to do the same thing! Any chance this could happen in the future?
I hope a new internet browser comes soon. The current netfront browser is all kinds of awful, and a lot of the time it locks my system when I close it. A cool feature, but an absolute bear to use in its current form.
Sony really needs to get a better update that don’t screw up your blue ray lens. A day or so later after I downloaded the update I haven’t been able to play any games ever since!!!! PLEASE fix this ugly mess :(

Hi there– I just updated to 3.15 the other day, and I assume that I was running 3.10 before that since I was able to access the PS Store, but I have yet to see the facebook icon– it simply doesn’t exist on my XMB! Am I missing something?
For the next Update I want to play my Import PS2 games I got Kingdom Hearts 2 Final Mix+ to play on my PS3 but I couldn’t for some reason. Also for a PSP update I want Friends to added so I can chat with them on the PSP to PS3.
One thing I don’t get: It says minis are now supported on PS3, so I purchased a mini and it says it’s PSP only. If it’s true that not EVERY mini work on PS3 I believe should make it clear, so I’d have saved my money buying a useless game.

Go to your Playstation Network icon on the XMB, click on the Account Management section and in there you will find the Facebook setup. Of course, you already need a Facebook account before setting it up on your PS3.

like 3 updates ago i gained some sweet features for my ps3 but i lost a favorite feature after update 3.10 i cannot play music in the backround of web surfing if i am playing a song and want to hit my ps button to scroll and find the next song or scroll and edit song names i have to stop playing music can this feature be returned because i love playing my music while surfing the web and stopping my music to pick the next track blows the mood and could there be a blank black screen to select while playing music in case of those times i want to just turn my lights out and relax to my music thank you
My PS3 had the BluRay issue after this update. I can play a few games for about 5 minutes then it crashes. PS2, PS1, DVD, CD, downloads…they all work. I noticed a lot of folks had an issue like this after 3.01 was released. Help?
Nix82. Also having this problem. everything worked after the update. played uncharted 2 for a while when i switched my PS3 back on this moring my Blu-ray disc icon was gone and it wasn’t reading any of my discs anymore.

Sony refuse to provide any solution or accountability for their dodgy Blu-Ray destroying firmware, and so since September I still haven’t bowed to pressure to get a refurb or buy new. Just suck it up, and never buy Sony again.
I updated my PS3 last week and I just had chance to try out the system. Let me say I’m not happy. I have no HDMI output now. Something that is mandatory should not break something that was working before the update. I now have to use my component cable to play with my system. My system is out of warranty. What will Sony do for me to correct the problem that something they forced upon me to do?
Can there be an upate where game data is split individually so that we don’t have to delete all data from one game. I just want to delete instillation data without having to delete add-ons or firmware data since instillation data has uses so much hard drive space and I want room for future PS3 games that might require an instillation. Please let Sony know. Thank You.

Please oh please update the flash player so a can use 90% of the world internet sites. i loved it when i could stream Freecaster.com but it doesnt work now as flash need to be updated. or give us a Flash player plugin until next firmware. i love the playstations total media solution but it has fallen behind on the critical media.. i don’t know what happened, but i was playing uncharted 2 online, and after a game ended, i got the in game xmb to open. while uncharted 2 was loading and it sort of froze. the last like 5 seconds of uncharted music kept on playing and my in game xmb froze. now, my in game xmb and my normal xmb randomly freezes and it takes a REALLY long time to load. some things don’t even work on the xmb and things such as the “what’s new” and playstation store parts on the xmb don’t even load! what do i do?! this is so frustrating! i can’t even use my in game xmb ’cause it won’t load! sony, please make another system software update that fixes this problem. please!
Hello Eric I feel that next update would definitely need to add the following: Erasing the unwated game out of your trophy list, at least if you do not have any trophies on it.
Because we do not have any choice of showing the trophies or not that we have played, there were some games that I did not want to put it in my trophy list.
So for like Xbox Live, now you can delete the game out of your game list if you do not have any achievements on it, and it was done after the new updates

Hey I love that we get our updates free but our ps3 needs a new flash player because every one is upgrading theirs for example I cant myspace videos anymore because it say I have to update I think we need Xgame voice chat and we need to be able to listen to our music while were on the internet I liked that feature but after I had to update it went away :/ If you guys could add premimium features and lets us listen to our own music in game or on the web I would be happy but my ps3 freezes up a lot recently so I think some more stability is needed but not techniccally required. thanks amerem
