NEW 250GB PlayStation 3 System Available November 3

285 0

Hi everyone! Since we launched the slimmer, lighter 120GB PS3 system, we’ve sold one million units worldwide within the first three weeks. We know that all of you are really making use of the PS3’s hard drive, as more than 600 million pieces of content have been downloaded from PlayStation Network. But if you are the ultimate digital consumer craving a bigger hard drive, we have the perfect solution for you.

Today, we announced the availability of a new PS3 system with a 250GB hard drive hitting store shelves on November 3. The PS3 250GB system has the same slim look, feel and features as the 120GB system, but with a 250GB built-in hard drive for $349.99. With the new, larger capacity, you’ll have even more room to store your favorite games, movies/TV shows, music, photos and PlayStation Network downloads.

250GB PS3

We’ve been saying it for a while now—this year we’ll see the best software lineup to date. What better way to enjoy your PS3 than by playing some of this season’s exclusive PS3 titles such as UNCHARTED 2: Among Thieves, Ratchet & Clank Future: A Crack in Time, and PlayStation Network downloads like PixelJunk Shooter, Gravity Crash, and Hustle Kings. In addition to the huge software lineup available this holiday, there are 2,300 movies available to download from the PlayStation Network’s video delivery service, with a third of those movies available in full high-definition.

As always, we look forward to hearing your feedback and enjoy!

  • Holding back on the $350 until now was a good idea as well. Helped to instill into people’s minds that PS3 is $300, not $350.

SCEA marketing on a roll these past few months!

  • Should’ve bundled it with an old game like Killzone 2 or LBP

  • nice! now i wonder if it’ll come with a modern warfare 2 bundle =]

  • I think packing in a game would have been a better incentive, but still, that’s a damn good price for that size HDD.

  • Yeah but does it come with Altered Beast?

  • definately buying this 250gb ps3 amazing indeed

  • Awesome job, Sony! Can’t wait to see those sales soar even higher!

  • Smart pricing there, Sony, smart pricing… and to those whiners complaining about the timing, etc. , please do yourself a favor and bookmark some tech blog links will ya!

  • Still doesn’t match the 320gb drive I got well over a year ago. Maybe next fall Sony will get up that high! ;)

  • Still loving my 250 gig launch system. Very nice though.

  • For everyone saying that they got ripped by buying the 120GB and this and that…. you can easily switch in a 500GB (twice as large as a 250GB) for under $100, if you know where to look.

I’m still kind of upset we’ll never see BC again this gen, but I recently took a first-run PS2 off the scrap heap at a local game store, re-adjusted the laser, and got it to work like new for free. So I guess I can’t complain. Just feel sorry for the moron who threw that out. A 10-15 minute fix was all it needed.

  • just bring back Backwards Compatibility and we’re set

  • its just not fair… I hv a 60GB

  • Nice, only $50 more. I’d have thought it’d be $100.

So… we can believe everything we read on the internet. Cross game chat in next firmware update confirmed. Thanks guys!

  • nice bundle you have there sony america

(looks a even better deal when you put it up against other nore expensive non blu ray playing, wifi lacking consoles with 250gb HDDs)

  • the only thing i know it’s that i wanto go home, get my infamous platinum trophy and my .detuned!!!!!! pls update the store fast fast fast!

  • I have a 400 gig slim, but I figured you guys would bundle a game in this 250 gig model.

  • I just bought a Seagate 250GB 5400RPM HD for $50.00 and will be putting in my fat 80GB PS3.

    Talk about savings :)

  • $350…. Thats actually a shock I was expecting 400. DAMN YOU RUMORS!!

however this makes the 120 kind of a hard sell now lol. Maybe drop the 120 from 300 to 275 in March.

    But still very very good.

  • Keep doin this and you will top the opposing consoles

  • sounds fantastic but what us who love our current PS3s and just want to add more memory you guys should do something about that

  • 250gb PS3? that’s alot of downloads to put in that awsome machine Excellent work SONY.

  • To the guy who is complaining about people who may have purchased the 250 for 100 more. You may want to do your math again. Now, what I do want to see is a USB port in the back for playstation eye. Backwards compatability without having to purchase all ps2 games again

  • Lol i love all the morons that get pissed because they released this. It’s a great deal and you bash them. Good stuff. :P

  • HEY GUYS, just buy a 500gb hard drive off Newegg.com and replace the old one yourself. It’s much cheaper this way, and you get the most possible space out of your PS3.

Just buy the hard drive in the link below, or one with similar specs, and you should be set!
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136314

Here’s a quick guide I found from google:
    http://www.gamepro.com/article/features/127009/how-to-swap-out-and-upgrade-a-ps3-hard-drive/

Lastly, I’d suggest you buy an enclosure for your old hard drive so you can use it for other things like storing stuff from your computer.
This is the one I got for mine:
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817392019

You’ll have a PS3 with a HUGE amount of space, and a new external hard drive to use for your computer or whatever.

  • @ DeviantBoi, send an email to SCEA (there’s a link on the Support) about transferring SingStar songs. I had my songs re-authorized for my new PS3 and worked fine.

  • Wow…I don’t know how I’ve missed seeing anything about Gravity Crash, but how is it not the ugly step-brother of PixelJunk Shooter? I’m glad PSN is so intent on releasing a horrendous looking copy in the same time frame as PixelJunk Shooter.

I am glad to see that Sony was smart this time around and is only charging $50 more for a larger HDD. Way to not mess around with consumers this time, especially on a system where we have the choice to add in a HDD ourselves. :)

  • this isnt news I heard of this a Month ago Go to Play-Asia.com they even have it in white 250gbs and u can even order a white dualshock somthing they have had since dualshock 3’s were released

PlayStation3 Slim Console – Final Fantasy XIII Lightning Bundle (HDD WHITE 250GB Model) – 110V

  • Dear Sony, Please Market the S#it out of Uncharted2. I have yet to see a ad for this game. I watch espn alot, and g4

  • ps store + paypal ¿?¿?¿?¿?¿?¿?¿?¿?¿?¿¿?¿?¿? that would be awesome

  • Pointless really. People just go buy a larger HDD drive. You can get up to 500 GB easily.

  • This is actually good news for those planning to buy a PS3 or for those who want to switch to the PS3,but you know since Sony kept the interchangeable HDD I could just put my 250gbHDD that I used to have on my 40gb model.

  • Still waiting for the firmware that will let me alphabetize my games and sort music by album artist. 250 gigs of content would be a nightmare to keep track of with the current options.

  • Any plans on opening up the video store for Canada so that the “extra” space could actually be used?

  • Yep just i agree if u already have a system that works ur best bet is to just go to best buy and pick up a laptop hard drive and or a site like Newegg.com and order yourself one and save urself a few bucks

But if ur like me and have an 80 gb Aug 2007 which ur hdd is already upgraded and then decides to Give U a YLOD fixing it yourself and use it til the white 250 gb comes out in DEC. or til it finally goes the way of the xblox.. theres really no point in spending more money that u can always use on more games…

  • About time they came out with ps3s with bigger hard drives. I personally like my 500 gig myself. but for the people that have no knowledge of computers, good job Sony!

  • there isn’t 2000+ videos in here canada, there’s NONE!!!!

  • sweeetttt definetly askin for this for x-mas my 60GB is runnin out of space, but are you gonna come out with a bundle pack for the 250GB

  • If you have a 60 or 80GB ps3 just take out the hard drive and get a new one. I took my 60gb out and bought a 500GB HDD online for like 80 bucks.

  • Xbox is realeasing a 250 GB verison with WiFi finally along with Call of duty MW 2, This system is 400$. Sounds like a good thing that sony follows along as well. Kudos

  • Sold!!! :)

  • old news… as always sony, as always… in portugal there are alreaddy 250GB systems being sold with a bundle with nfs shift and other games…

  • its the same [DELETED] just a bigger hardrive

  • You should have made a 120gb bundled with Uncharted 2. 250gb is just overkill. The majority would probably prefer to pay an extra 50$ for a great game than an extra 50$ for disc space that will never be used.

  • they just made it bigger to beat xbox 360 elite

  • they just made it bigger to beat the xbox 360 elite sony is realy competative

  • ..Sony rreally needs to just sell the hardrive separately…i already swapped in a 750GB on my original 60GB…not saying the idea is kool, since MS is gonna do the same..but PS3 has an easier hard drive system to swap…

  • I am one of those that was waiting for this. I already own a launch 60 gig(upgraded to 500GIG) and want a second PS3 for the basement. I will use the slim upstairs because of it being much quiter and also having the ability to control it with my Samsung remote CEC.

I was afriad Sony would have listed it for $399.99 but for $349.99 it is a good deal.

I will picking one of these up in November.

  • I wish we could get a special edition in the US. We seem to always get stuck with the standard editions lol.
