I like the gray boxes around friends I think there should be a mail theme box around recieved MSG and a friend theme box around the players met icon and so on I don’t care what everybody says about the 3.0 update I think it is sleek and informative the perfect update for the perfect system rock on Sony you are untouchable!
You can add me to the list of people with disc problems that just started after 3.01.
I can place a game in the drive (and eject manually) without any problem, but the actual game icon only appears on the XMB about 1 in 6 tries.
I’ve tried a variety of game discs, all with the same results.
I put it in, it may or may not appear. I eject it. Try again. Until the icon eventually appears.
This was not an issue even an hour before the 3.01 update.
…and boy, the XMB in 3.00 and 3.01 are sure sluggish compared to my 60GB (that I’ve refused to update). Especially in-game XMB. But out of game as well.
I had no problem with 3.0 but I downloaded the update and it seemed to help with the on-line connection of Battlefield 1943 last night. Any other patches or added features should be coming soon if Sony follows the way they have been doing things in the past.
Well, if there’s a PS4 (and I sure hope there will be) I guess the thing they’ll be aiming for is more RAM.
I have yet to update to 3.01 because of the reports of disc drive problems, so its nice that this patch is optional, ‘cuz I’m busy with Dead Space.
Either way, it sickens me that one minute your kissin Sony’s ass, praising them for updates and when it goes wrong you’re so quick to turn on them and threaten to “move to another console”
Have you seen how many lines of code there are in an OS?
There’s bound to be bugs in new software, cut them a break already.

– Get back the PS3 Chime when we start a PS3 game
– Make the blur optional for XMB menu
– Change the font size with an option
– Delete the PlayStation Store icon in the game menu
– Bring back the original pure black theme for XMB
– Change the ugly friendlist
and it makes me laugh.
Seriously ….blur effects, the chime, an non intrusive Store icon…and the theme (which btw, you CAN REVERT BACK TO) are what people consider important………and to think you call yourself GAMERS ….oyi
It’s still failing, for me it’s not only Uncharted it’s all disc games SFIV, Burnout, Little Big Planet, all my Blueray game discs. Start reading intro and it freezes, after reading first disc blueray isn’t able to read any other blueray disc.
I Hope this issue is fixed sooner than later.

Updated to Firmware 3.01 last night and was excited to see if it would fix the problems I was having. Sadly no, disk is still stuck in the system, doesn’t show under the games tab, and no downloadable games work on the system. Downloaded FF7 for the fun of it and can’t even play that. This is turning into a failed experiment and I am getting tired of not having my system to play GAMES! All I want to do is throw in Batman AA and play but I can’t even get that to work. This is a terrible week.
Mattchewie, I’m glad there are reasonable people such as yourself on this blog.
People can’t play discs at the moment, and all they are concered about is theme settings, which, you said yourself, you can revert back to.
Its not the first time an update has backfired, and Sony was quick to fix it. This incident and the one before it hasn’t effected my faith in Sony and the PS3 dev team in the slightest
now all we need is for you to get us exclusive dlc for non-exclusive games
WOW, I am definitly NOT updating if all you people are having the same issues… My PS3 works fine with update 3.0 The only issue I was having was MAG beta was freezing up, but I think that was due to the MAG beta update…. Everything else works perfectly !
Any chance this update will be available for download through PC soon?
Another comprehensive changelog or list of what has exactly has been changed, not. Would it really ruin your day to part with real information?
it would be great if there is a firmware update that improves the internet browser throught the PS3. right now i am typing this through my PS3, but only because my laptop has just died on me (the backup hard drive has something wrong with it & the internal fans have stopped working.) My problem is now i can’t read my e-mails. The PS3 browser, at this time, allows me to open my hotmail/live homepage, and i can check the 3 e-mails displayed on that page, but i cannot look at ANY of my other e-mails i need to check. The browser does not allow me to click on the appropriate links to do what is needed to read my mail, but instead opens a blank javascript page that never loads anything. PLEASE SONY, IMPROVE THE INTERNET BROWSER! this would not only be a big help to me, but for everyone who could (or in my case, need to) use their PS3 to do simple e-mail reading.

If I had to guess (purely a guess) – the BR disc problem is a firmware issue and not a hardware failure. The BR disc/drive has to authenticate to the PS3 and establish a secure connection, and I bet that handshake broke with certain models/drives. That’s why it still plays DVD’s just fine. I am still running 2.76, and I’m not about to test my theory by breaking my PS3… The only way to test the theory is to restore a pre-3.0 firmware on your hard disc and see if BR works again.
The bad news would be if the 3.0 firmware also updated the BR drive firmware, and caused the drive to be “bricked”, i.e. unable to load updated firmware.
well not bad , but you have some catching up to do against XBOX LIVE…………..
i have had this system twice, and i have stuck with xbox 360. psn will never match what xbox live has…………..
I wish ppl would stop talking about the sparkles. U could always go back to the original in the settings menu. Come on ppl.

I am getting rid of my BC 60 gig Because of 3.0. It is obvious sony is heading in a diffrent direction. Thier seems to be no more media support coming (divx or streaming features) and with the ads they feel they need to force on us I might as well go back to my Xbox 360. I hope this new direction brings you more money cause mine is not going to any of your products anymore. Just for record I am not a whiny teen I am 33 years old and WTF what is that sparkle $^&* I am glad i NEVER updated it. Also your lack of support over your touted fetures for the PSP (remote play, media Streaming. I am sure this part will get delted but i am fed up so [DELETED] YOU!
can someone please give me a direct link to the firmware update so i can download it directly to my pc? otherwise i will have some problems with my hdd. just bought the new slim. unfortunately i already installed the new firmware before i inserted the new hdd. after putting it in it says “problems with the system -software. please install 3.01 or higher.

Damn I’m so glad i have an XBOX. I just bought a PS3 Slim and its been nothing but headaches!!! Every god damn game needs as LONG!! update and the PSN network sucks!! and now this dumb lame update does not fix my logitech remote… yeeeshhhh… Im not a fanboy but i seriously see XBOX bankrupting the SONY PS3… so long sony….

@250…. I can’t speak for others about the info ticker but my reason is cause were I live I have a very small bandwith cap and I don’t need this useing my limted amount. Not to mention when 3.0 came out they said it was to get to the games to launch them quicker….. mine since i have not updated when i heard about the store icons Already boots to the game in the drive or last played downloaded game. Now I am starting to understand why the PSP owners have been hacking them to get thier functionality. Since I can’t play online anymore with 3.0 out I might as well make my PS3 better and do the same or since it is a 60 gig BC sell it before the market gets flooded with others with the same idea
I have had no issues with update 3.0 or update 3.01 (yet). Been playing uncharted with no problems. Half of these coments on this blog are a joke what has happened. They don’t even know how to work a PS3? How old are we? LOL :)

I would play a game if my system would recognize the discs.
And my brother WOULD HAVE played a game, except his BRAND NEW console (packaged with Uncharted) would not even play THAT game.
Is it a cry baby post to expect his brand new $300 console to play the game that was packaged with it?
…and the fact that the game was packaged with certain consoles is the ONLY reason that we saw 3.01 as quickly as we did. And now it’s causing issues too.
@25 HatmanTc My friend reported that she was having issues with her PS3 locking up when playing Batman after installing the update. She found out that turning off the ‘Sparkles’ by going to the ‘Classic’ display stopped the freezing problem.

I just wanted to comment and say that i’m still having issues, before 3.01 I had some freezing with batman: AA, and now during 3.01 I had freezing with LBP(during an online co-op game,3 players) Also when I went to restart it manually, the controller refused to sync up, then I connected the USB cord to the controller and it still wouldn’t. It was very frustrating.
you know that is why i have a real system, not one that is many steps behind.

so seems everyone is happy….except me..i am still having issues playing blue ray…as in they arent coming up with a disc icon at all…and a couple of games are still having problems starting (error code#80010514)….guess my playstation will sit collecting dust for a few more weeks..

Batman Arkham Asylum just froze on me after downloading 3.01 and I lost my whole save file. Awesome.
You know it never seems to surprise me of how much people whine and complain about nothing. You fellow gamers seem like at times nothing ever pleases you. Sony in my eyes Is doing one hell of a job with its PS3 and I’m happy with every little minute thing they have done to take care of its customers, compared to it’s competitors. Our services provided to us by Sony are free, so why complain? Now if I was MS customer I’d be livid. Not only did I buy your console but I give you my hard earned money every month/year for a service that is useless when my console doesn’t even work. Now they way I see it, Too all you whiners out there, stop being part of the problem and do something about it. I downloaded 3.0 the second day it was out and the only issue i can report on personally is that the web browser is glitchy and has frozen on me alot more than usual. All the games i played so far have been fine. I find it highly unusual and suspicious that so many br drives have gone bad due to the minor .1 update. As far as 3.0, things that annoy me are the two added ps store icons, the ticker, and the fading font. Honestly i really dont see the purpose behind 3.0 except maybe to get all the new ps3 users aware and into the store to obviously generate more money. I for one dont care for it but honestly it really is all about the games for me so whatever.

This is a job for trading standards guys! Lets face it, we all had perfectly funtioning PS3s before the version 3 update, then Patrick Seybold Sr. Director corporate communications and social media to sony USA came out and admitted the problem. Now they’ve released version 3.01 supposedly to fix said problems but still the problems, if not more exist. I contacted Sony 3 times and was told it was a coinsidence that my PS3 was not working! I know for a fact this is not true as so many of us are having the same coinsidence!! Sony sold us a machine that worked, now because of their updates it doesnt, who do we hold responsable?……… SONY!! Im phoning trading standards tomorrow as soon as they open!
OOoh and from time to time my controller loses sync for a few seconds. Thats something I experienced at the launch of the system and got better over time and updates but it seems to be back again. very snnoying when especially when playing multi with a friend or online.
i updated about 5 minutes ago and i still can’t turn off the What’s new feature.
