Nice to hear that you’re working on it. I know the crash issues are top priority (as well they should be) but I would also like the cosmetic issues addressed. It sounds like the lion’s share of people are in agreement that most of the new changes are unappealing at best, offensive at worst. Allowing us to revert the visuals to the cleaner XMB from 2.8 would be very welcome, as well as giving us BACK the option to turn off the news ticker in the upper right hand corner. Not being able to turn that off is highly annoying to me.
Again, I know fixes come first, but please address these issues as well.

Offer a more contiguous experience, please. The XMB now looks like it was designed by 15 different people who did not know that the other existed nor did they know what they were working on in the first place.
Messy colored icons instead of the beautiful opaque glass icons? Seriously? It was so nice until the Network Tab, Store Icon, Big ORANGE What’s New icon….
Also – PLEASE give people a REASON to use “What’s New” and to actually pay attention to the ticker. USE THIS PS BLOG! Headlines for posts should be along the ticker… the actual posts should be linked to the what’s new section… Keeping something up there for a week at a time is SENSELESS – you guys update this blog daily – which makes PERFECT SENSE! Hence the term What’s “NEW” – otherwise – we’re going to start calling it – What’s OLD, lol.
Seriously… I bet that the interface for the WN section is XML based on the XMB.
I’ll write the dang code!

The ideas are in place – they just need to be implemented and designed better. As i stated earlier – it looks as if several people worked on the design and implementation – all without discussing a thing with one another…
It’s not a fluid experience – the XMB is broken up by CRAZY aesthetics due to design flaws. The experience is broken – not a solid, fluid and continuous experience.

Interesting stuff man thanks! Ya I know the Google Chrome thing is a long shot but I can dream. A Sony/Google partnership would be so SWEET. The one thing I don’t like is how the web browser performs, but Sony just started all this online stuff with the release of the PS3 so lots more good stuff will come along.
Sony please listen to the following and yes I know we have a lot of complaints
1. Fronts should range from small to large for those who have SD & HDTV’S
2. The news ticker in the notification bar needs to go but for any reason it has to stay then there should be an option to turn it off
3. Remove the store icon from under games and have it display like that under network so all we need is two icons instead of 3 and we can access the store as well as see what you recommend.
4. add sound when starting up game and also the boot isn’t bad but woooooow really lol
5.I know a lot of people complain about cross game chat and music but again we have children here and I know there are things preventing it
6. I see where the friends list is going and I like but as of now atleast only put the grey borders only on online friends but friends list design needs a better look and when pressing x on a friend it should open messages not the profile.
7. UI needs a overhaul and 3.0 wasn’t that I love the XMB but get rid of grey icons period and give is something nice to look at and the animations on what’s new should be the same for pictures

Since the 3.00 update my Batman Arkham Asylum has been freezing EVERY SINGLE TIME I try to play the Joker stage “Sewer Bat.”
Please look into this and thanks for trying to fix the problems. As far as cosmetical changes, I REALLY hate the PSN store in every XMB icon, but my biggest two problems with the update (other than the crashes) is the “What’s new” being displayed as soo as I turn on the system. My second problem is the update bar, I will like the option to take it off lake I did before. Thanks, hope you listen to your customers.
My Uncharted is freezing too. It’s impossible playing it now (after FW3.0 installation). I liked the “plim” sound and “Playstation 3” word appearing before game loading, please bring them back. Thank you.

Man a lot of the people here need to either read the threads before posting or explore their settings. @288 if you had read a post a few above yours I have already posted the problem and solution to be able to browse while listening to music. @299 You don’t have to boot into whats new, there is an option to turn that off. Please guys explore your settings menu or research online before complaining about things that you already can fix. Save the complaints for things that really have no option. The music while browsing thing isn’t easy to figure out without playing with it, but the whats new on bootup feature is easy to find…

Also, I believe the PS3 is currently using the NetFront browser. NetFront is primarily meant for mobile devices, like cell phones. If Sony is paying licensing fees for this browser, maybe they should switch to something more robust, such as Opera, at least.
ok…so ever since the update ive been getting a message that says error you have been signed out of playstation network, error code 80031606..i havent been able to play online since that and im pretty frustrated!!!! please figure out the problem so i can get on with my life of call of duty..the download was the worst thing that couldve ever happened..its nothing but trouble for me and many others
I don’t currently have a problem with 3.0, but the first night it went in I did have login problems.
Think that was mainly due to the huge amount of people trying to login all at one time.
@Musoka_Eimin I agree, lots of the people that complain on the blog, don’t seem to have the time to read the previous posts and still keep up their whining.
Maybe if they took sime time out, they’d find out how to fix a problem, instead of just complain about it.
I know I had the music problem too, until I changed my music setting to 48 kHz…now all works just fine.
I could care less if there are ten PS Store icons. I could care less If the friends list boxes were green and not grey. I could care less if the fonts were too big to fit on my TV. All I want is to be able to play my music while I’m on the browser and while I’m looking at my photos, thank you. :)

NetFont huh? I will have to look that up. Never heard of that, but I am not THAT savy. :-) But for sure, even Opera i would be happy with.
– Give us new avatars as promised
– Make an option for the “zoomed-out” XMB layout
– Remove the PSN Store icon under PlayStation Network (So there would only be two icons- under video, game)
– Make an option for “always run plugins” for the internet browser
– Fix the sign-in/out network issues
– Continue to work on cross-game voice chat

I was already unhappy because directly after the update my controller started forgetting it had buttons randomly during some games, but then I noticed upon turning on the system I default to the “Whats new” spam icon, so I scroll over to the game menu and met with a PSN store spam link, then I go to video and see a PSN video store spam link and up in the corner is the scrolling spam thingy.
Yes I can be petty sometimes but all these links where I do not want them and they have no place at all and just get in the way of the flow of the menu systems is quite annoying. Its one thing to send me junk email but to permanently emmbed a spam link into my gaming console I paid quite alot for on every dag gone menu and doesnt even go away if Im offline is just really damned annoying, annoying to the point it makes me NOT want to go the PSN store simply because your trying to get me to.
So in short, with the new update your hopefully working on getting rid of or giving us the option to delete the “whats new” and video/game menu PSN store links because I refuse to use them out of spite.
I would rather just rollback to be honest, there is nothing in the new update that is of use to me.
Sony put its flag in the ground early on, talking up free PSN and so on to seperate itself from MS. This is what a lot of consumers made their choice with in mind. Now, progressively with advertising and micro transactions it has become quite apparent that this initial focus is slowy but surely fading.
Nice that you’re fixing problems relating to 3.0, please also fix your direction.
8. A better Music player would be great and more visuals

10. Web Browser needs a performance updated, flash player 10 and some major work its really not capable as of now of handling pages with a lot of graphic design like myspace and such since its always runs out of memory.
11. We should be able to install or download pretty much everything in the background and can we do something with installing the game cause its slow at times and is annoying
12. We really and I mean desperately need more codec support like mkv, vob, wmv or something

Im am glad that 3.00’s issues have come to Sony’s attention but there is loads more wrong with it than what has been reported.
Please can you change the following for the next update.
1. Bring back the original PS3’s boot screen for non slim PS3’s.
2. Give options to turn off the top right hand ticker.
3. Remove the PSN store icon from all the new areas, it was fine where it was before and now it looks cluttered and kind of insulting.
4. Give the option to display the Playstation 3 game launch logo and jingle. Loads of people want that back and its tradition on all Sony consoles.
5. Remove the grey boxes from the friends list, it was fine the way it was before.
I know there are issues with Uncharted and DS3’s but 3.00 issues extend way beyond just those problems. Please listen to your community. People really want the look of 2.80 back!

The browser is base on the Palm Pilot browser.
I Do NOT like the New UpDate 3.00, not even my friends like it. Please Put it the way it was to 2.80. Please.Please.Please.Please.Please.Please.

I agree. I have mine set at 1080i and I like the font now after the update. It’s much easier to read. I can image though if you have a low res TV that the font could look big.
Some users? Check the net….looks like a big problem… it froze me out of Drake just after I got a five head shot in a row reward. In fact, it froze me out several times before I gave up. What a PR nightmare. Maybe someone needs to check a few of these mega-hit games with the next update before they jam it down everyone’s throat? Sloppy work with the system crashing, reminds me of Microsoft. Does anyone know if Microsoft products are embedded in this system?

I also, have no issue with the font size, I have Flowers and the sound was bright and vibrant now it dull and lifeless even with the sound level turn up all the way. Even if I turn the sound up on my TV, it still sound dull and lifeless. SONY PLEASE FIX THE SOUND OUTPUT!!!!!
Ok since I can’t say anything on the Firmware 3.0 section I’ll say it here. I have watched countless videos about the 3.0 update and all I have seen are complaints about it. Please let me know now if I should just turn my back on Sony now or what? I would think that with a NEW SLIM PS3 coming out to the market the 3.0 update would have been one of the best ever but I guess that I was wrong. Please Sony FIRE! Eric Lempel if he is the Director of the Playstation Network he is only going to make things worse in my opinion. Read the forums Sony we know what we want. NOT HIM!

Palm uses Netfront, Webkit (Safari engine), etc. depending on which model you have.
Access claims that NetFront is the PSP browser in their investor reports. The PSP browser is nearly identical to the PS3 browser.
I have a 19″ 1080p HD screen, and yes, the font is ENORMOUS.
Basicly my complaints for Update 3.0 are the lack of options. But here’s my feelings.
Positives:
* I like the nice sparkly background.
* The clock and “friends online” up in the corner is a great improvement.
Now for my gripes:
*I can’t choose my font size.
*There is no option to switch between PLAYSTATION 3 and PS3 boot logos. (Purely athstetic)
*Friends list is now a wall of grey. Give us the option to have it the old way.
*My BIGGEST (and dumbest) complaint:
No PLAYSTATION 3 or PS3 symbol when I start a game. At least give us a new one.
And, in no relation to that, I don’t like the new PS3 game templates.

Sony need to let people reinstall 2.80 while they fix this mess.
Sony please do the community a favor and survey us to see what features we would like included in the firmware updates.
We should be able to send and receive messages online like the 360 and please once again we need a better design for the PS3 interface..
Please also allow dynamic theme to be one of the selectable visualizer when listening to music!
I don’t want any of the XMB enhancements that have been made in v3.00.
I prefer the previous version. I do not plan to upgrade my PS3.

#284 bluedice, what about the people who launch on the offensive on anybody who dares say they don’t mind the update, calling them fanboys and/or calling them stupid? Stuff of that nature is uncalled for and doesn’t help discussion at all. You have to look at both sides of the coin here. People voicing technical issues that they have occurring with their PS3s due to the firmware update isn’t a problem per se, but pretending it’s a universal problem and making it the illusion that the vast majority are in the same predicament (especially when only nearly 50% of PS3 all owners are connected to PSN) is so shortsighted and a sign of overreacting.

What some supporters are also saying is that people bashing it solely on an aesthetic perspective which does not affect the function of the games, blu-rays, music etc. come off as shallow and need their priorities sorted out, and remember why they bought the console in the first place. Seriously, having nerd rage over sparkles which is relatively prevalent in the last firmware 3.0 blog post and all over the forums) for days on end? The only thing I don’t like is the way the friends box looks but unlike some ranters, I don’t let something so cosmetic like that affect my gaming and blu-ray experiences.
You say that the buy me links and find 3.0 itself intrusive? I don’t and many others don’t. Hate the ticker? Doesn’t phase me a bit. In fact, I’ve seen firmware 2.8 and 3.0 side by side in a pic comparison. Saying that the former is stylish minimalism and the latter is a complete mess and extremely intrusive is hyperbole. Just my 2 cents.
The ticker draws my eye to it so much that I can barely stand to use my PS3. I used to just leave the XMB screen up because it was simple and cool, now it just makes me nauseous and annoyed. This is the best machine I have ever had, but if they don’t get rid of that ticker I will stop using it. The sparkling stars aren’t as bad. I could care less about the grey boxes. Just get rid of that ticker.
Ah The Only Thing Im Bothered About Is The Ability To Play Music And Return To The XMB Is Lost, And Internet Browse With Music, And In Game Music

I’ve had no issues with the new firmware so far, although I’m dissatisfied with the firmware in general. I just wish that the marketing department didn’t have the technical department by the balls when it comes to new ‘features’ for firmware.
Powley, you have to adjust you sound output is all and your still able to browse while listening to music or viewing pictures.

Upconverting Audio from USB – Upconvert audio from the hard drive or a USB source to 88.2 Khz or 176.4 Khz.
Note: Doing so will improve the quality of the audio, but will remove access to the XMB while the file is played. Leave it at the default 44KHz if you want to listen to music while you do other things on your PS3.
