Has anyone experienced not being able to load and play games but still able to load and watch DVD’s?
Is this part of the issue with the latest update?
I have been having the ps3 freeze up on me when playing madden 10/ batman system shuts off
I preferred firmware 2.8.
My friend just bought his ps3 after I convinced him and the price cut, and he goes home and turns on his ps3 to a purple glitter background. This is the elite system, not the barbie system. His games are also stuttering and I blamed the firmware 3.0. I almost feel bad that I had him buy it, but I hope you can fix this soon. This was a bad time to release your new firmware when potential first time customers are just signing on and getting a bad taste.

i just wish i could be able to listen to my music while i’m on the internet. i hate having to quit my music just to check my messages or go online.
In order of importance:
I. Reset the start-up screen back to SonyComputerEntertainment (since you changed it I get a subtle hint that SCE is now to be officially marketed as ‘PS3 PlayStation 3′).
II. Give the option to resize font and icon size back to normal, (I always thought that a requisite for playing videogames was NOT to be blind, but silly me right?).
III. Friends’ List boxes, well if you’re planning furthter improvement on them (if what you did could possibly be called improvement that is), then fine, keep them, but let us now, and don’t delay, for they’re not exactly pleasing to the eye. Best if you reemove them altogether though.
IV. That thing on the right-upper part of my screen is not nice either, dive us the option to turn it off (like yiu did with the Information Board, remember?).
V. Remove the extra (2!!) PS Store icons, for they couldn’t have been worse placed, seeing the PLAYSTATION 3 is a media center, and what not, having spam on the Music and Video columns is not exactly pleasing.
VI. Fix the symmetry of the XMB, it’s almost as if you had lost the complete sense of order, by the look of the new XMB, that is.
@556 -To be able to listen to you’re music as in multi-tasking, you’ll have to change the Audio Out-put Frequency back to 48KHz.
@551 -Well, not really, there’s nothing you can do, our only hope is for Sony to amend the problems on a future (and hopefully near future) update.
I’ve read through most of the complaints associated with 3.0, but I haven’t read about an issue I find to be extremely important when listening to music files on the PS3. Before 3.0, you could be playing a music file, hit the PS3 button and allowed to navigate to another music file while the current music was playing. Very convenient. Now, with 3.0, that feature is gone. You have to stop playing your music to find another music file. WHAT WERE THEY THINKING? Please, revert back to the previous behavior. There is absolutely no value in the NEW logic.

Battlefield BadCompany runs with some issues under firmware 3.0- When I hit the “quit game” icon on the XMB the enitre system crashes and resets. Also, my PS3 80gig (the one prior to the slim) now has overheating issues it never had before. – I hope there is a firmware 3.1 ASAP. – Thanks
Well Im having 3 big issues so far.
1 – My DualShock 3 doesn´t work properly, if i unplug it it goes BLIND, I mean the PS3 can´t sync it anymore
2 – Even with the DS3 controller connected, If I press the PS button with the PS3 in stand by mode, it does not turn it on at all.
3 – The Metal Gear Solid 4 game doesn´t work, when I try to play it it goes to a black screen then the PS3 completly freezes. I´ve tryed to delete the game data and nothing happens. I dont know if the DS3 started to work wierd after the MGS4 freeze problem or after the update. because my Original controller works flawless.

Before FW 3.0 you could have played music while accessing the XMB on either 48 kHz or 44.1 kHz, but now with this new FW you can only do it on 48 kHz.
I just got the PS3 160GB w/Uncharted game bundle. I played Uncharted for a few hours before setting up the network connection. Once I had network connectivity, I ran the system update to 3.0, assuming that this was a safe thing to do.
Now Uncharted crashes regularly and the R2 button is “stuck” on so all games and demos are unplayable.
It’s going back. Sorry Sony, you lost a PS One, PS2 customer.

I could care less about XMB cosmetic improvements – I thought XMB was simple and quite elegant before. And adding more hooks to your Playstation Store and other money generating web sites? C’mon!
Another peeve – you took away the ability to access the XMB during music or photo streaming, and I’m assuming game playing. This WAS a really cool feature in that I could start some music playing in the background and then view photo slide shows. Or, I could look for the next mp3 to play while the current one was streaming. Or I could check for other users or mail without having to leave the game. Not any more.
Kudos for the only new feature I like: The multiple audio output capability.
Thanks to the 3.0 update, “Uncharted” is useless. I can’t play it more than 5 minutes before it freezes on me. Thanks, Sony!
On top of it freezing the 3 times I previous stated back on page 10, post 482 my system now yesterday froze on the boot up. I had to force turn it off with the back switch. I’m starting to get worried and hesitant about playing my original 60GB PS3 until the fix is out which is very bad news for me since due to my disability I can’t leave the house and my PS3 is my entertainment source.

I own the original 60GB Ps3 JAP model.
The only technical problems I’ve have so far was with my PS2 emulator (using the old 80GB system…with four USB ports). Some of the games there’s major slowdown during FMV playback where as when I was still with v2.80 it was non-existent. I know that you guys are so anti-backwards compatibility now, but if there’s any way to fix this problem with a patch or something, please offer one.
My PS3 is not working since the download of the 3.0 firmware. It can’t read any disc, the game doesn’t appear under the column, just the icon on the top right corner, turning.
It was working just fine before.
– Give us new avatars as promised.
– Make the friends list’s “blocks” more transparent; and have it change accordingly to a theme’s color.
– The new XMB layout has the perfect size icons/fonts now… (for 1080i/p though)
Make an option for a “zoomed-out” XMB layout for those unfortunate of high definition.
– Light-colored backgrounds/themes make the XMB’s bright and white fonts invisible to see. Make an option to change a font’s color under theme settings.
– Bring back the splash screen that appears before a game starts. Add the new PlayStation 3 logo and a chime to go with it.
– Remove the PlayStation Store icon under PlayStation Network in the XMB (So there would only be two icons- under video and game).
– Make an “always run plugins” option for the internet browser.
– Fix the sign-in/out network issues and better in-game functionality.
– Continue to work on cross-game voice chat and party chat.

Sony’s strategy appears to be to attract new customers with the nice hardware price drop while providing enticing new ways to spend money on content via the multiple opportunities to visit the Playstation store in the 3.0 upgrade. Ironically, it’s causing significant problems and they may lose those new customers for good. They have in my case. My brand new 160GB PS3 is going back first thing Tuesday and I won’t be looking at a PS3 again.
DAMN!!!….With all these complaints about Fw 3.0, i’m afriad to even play Uncharted or any other disc based games. I don’t want my new PS3 failing on me. I hope Sony can fix all these problems that Fw 3.0 is causing ASAP.
Bought PS3 Slim 8/25/09. Problems with HDMI after update. Support had me reformat. temp fixed until re-install of update. Ucharted freezed over and over. Support had me reformat and then suggested I exchange for new Console. exchange yesterday. Uncharted froze several times today. Hope a patch comes out soon

My main complaint about 3.0 is how HUGE the text and icons are on the XMB.
I would need at least a room probably 2 times or 3 times the size to make the XMB look good again.
Please give us a Text and Icon size option.

Has anyone had any problems with the controller configuration doing anything? Sometimes when I’m playing, ( It’s only happened on Metal Gear Online ) the controller will start doing the wrong function. E.g. when I press down it goes diagonally left, it can all be put to righteousness by simply turning the control on and off. Nothing to worry about but still a problem I don’t know if it’s anything to do with the recent Firmware update.

The problem is not only in Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune this extends also to other game like The King of Fighters XII.
im not getting freezes, and i dont mind about the links to the store. but i guess ill bring up the point ive made many times before.
how can you release firmware updates consistently without adding in cross-game VOICE chat?

The only problem I’m having, or atleast noticed, is how slow everything is than it used to be.
I’ve got 2 PS3’s one original 60gb and an 80gb version both on fw3.00 and found no problems hope when the fix for problems others are having it don’t break the working console’s :)
Well this update was very disappointing. A long weekend and I can’t play any games, but oh wait, I can watch regular DVDs, not Blu-ray, but good old regular DVDs.
Most of the time when a put in a game, it doesn’t even recognize that a disc is in the system. And when it does and I try to play it, I get an error.
Following games not working:
MGS4
GTA4
Socom
Little Big Planet
Infamous
KZ2
and I’m sure this list goes on and on…
I feel lucky everything of mine still works. To those who bought a PS3 and find they have an issue, have a little patience and Sony will rectify it. Releasing network software is never an exact science, but it’s a software issue so it will not require shipping or repair.
guys in terms of font xmb go to themes setting and change the font to original , pop or round either way it should fix the font size.
Why dont they just go back to 2.8 or what ever while they fix this. Im getting pretty pissed that i cant play any game online. WTF
Next update would be amazing if you were to let us play music during gameplay i mean xbox can do it why cant the playstation i was going to buy an xbox until a friend told me playstation would probably make an update where you could listen to music whilst gaming i am really starting to regret buying a playstation now :(
This update was just for sony to look like they’ve been doing something, by adding pointless, ugly bland boxes on the friends list, ridiculous animated themes, which hasn’t even arrived in the UK playstation store, which is where I’m from, while adding stupid sparkles to the original background.
Let me ask, why does the American Playstation store have so much more than the UK store? Why are we not treated equal? I’m fed up of this lacklustre customer service, and so are many others. If this carries on, your profit may be lowered significantly in the coming years, while Microsoft’s significantly increasing.
You’ve done nothing to increase the enjoyment of gaming on the playstation, and when the next gen console comes out, I’ll be buying the Xbox, if this carries on, so please treat EVERYONE equal.

Dear Sony,
the marketing ticker that can’t be switched off is very annoying! Making folder/file names fade out after a second was a bad idea, too. It makes using PS3 via remote play (PSP) very bothersome. And as has been said several times, we don’t need 3 links to the store.
Please learn from this blunder and from now on make any such changes optional.
Please roll back to 2.8 quickly; you are upsetting everyone, and the compatibility issues with Uncharted etc. are scaring away potential buyers!

Here what I think going to happen an update before 09/09/09.
Why you ask, “The Beatiles: Rock Band” will bomb under version 3.00. That mean there only two days left to fix this mess, not counting the days since it was release.
With all the things that are broken in this release their can not be enough time to fix everything. The only solution I see is to take V2.80 put in the new playstation logo, the fix clock, and maybe the new background but remove all the other carp that was put in under V3.00 and release this as version 3.01. Problem solved. Then spend the next three or four months working on something that we the user want.
