PlayStation on Facebook: Tell Us What You Want to See

215 6

If you’re new to the Blog, or just otherwise haven’t been paying close attention, we’re on Facebook. We’ve been syndicating blog posts, hosting contests and announcing details around upcoming meetups and events. You may already know all this. Stay with me here.

As of late, Facebook’s been cracking down on unofficial fan pages throughout the site, including those pertaining to PlayStation. Since we *are* PlayStation, we’ve decided to open our doors to all the PlayStation fans on Facebook, and have gathered everyone in one place. You can now find us at www.facebook.com/PlayStation. If you are an existing fan of the fan page formerly known as “PlayStation.Blog,” you’ve already made the move. That was easy, yeah? If you’re not, no time to join us like the present. Go on, I’ll wait.

With all these new fans (300K and counting), this is a good time for us to make updates to the fan page… but we want to get your input first. After all, it’s you who are our fans. So what should we do with our Facebook page? Please take this 1-question survey to let us know your thoughts on the subject.

We look forward to reading your replies!

  • I wish the Blog was integrated into the XMB more. Especially that you have the What’s New section now

  • I think we should have the facebook page for fan requests that can be read and taken seriously by people who make actual decisions on things within the company. For example we can make requests as to which PS1/PS2 titles we’d like to see get the PS3 treatment (like the recently announce god of war collection). Also things like what we’d like to see in future firmware updates, which games need another sequel, what should be part of the next gen PSP, etc.

  • I am not a user of Facebook.

I would also prefer if Playstation Events/News/Contests etc were communicated thru an official Sony/Playstation.com interface.

it can be a bit daunting trying to track down things if they are spread out over different gateways.

I would think that Sony would want to increase transparency to all things Sony, not add an additional hoop to jump thru.
I can see the appeal to communicate to an already established group of people via Facebook, but on the flip side it seems as though people who, for whatever reason, do not use Facebook, could be potentially marginalized in favor of those that are users.

who knows, maybe its the Luddite in me showing thru….

  • So if I fan you on Facebook how much of my personal information do you get? I use Facebook for only real life friends mostly. I don’t like the idea that companys could use facebook as a data mine. I would like to join the playstation fan page but not feel like I’m giving out too much information about myself.

  • @156

That would be awesome, but would they listen?

Or just lock, delete and ignore any thread or request that goes against what they think?

Sadly I’m more inclined to believe on the second option.

Give up man, nowadays ‘customers’ is a extinguished word and concept for bigger companies. All they want is to sell, after you’ve paid the case is closed.

  • I’d like to better use Facebook ON my PS3 but the built in web browser is so poor most of the website doesn’t work properly. If only 3.0 actually came with a new feature like a webkit based web browser or party chat/invites….

  • I think the Playstation Blog being on Facebook is already great. It helps me to catc the latest news that I am interested about then I usually jump on over to the blog to read more about it.

I can’t think of anything to improve on it except what one person has already said about having an application made for Facebook to show my PSN gamer name and info. The info could show our level, trophy count, etc. I guess an application on the PS3 that would take you right to Facebook is an okay idea. I just find it kind of pointless for me. It would be better to have an application on the PS3 that took us to a internet radio site. Maybe even Pandora where it would run better as an app on the PS3. Sorry I went off subject a bit. :)

  • not sure why there is this sudden focus on pages like twitter and facebook i bought a playstation to play games.

You are not going to attract many ‘new’ customers at all just by advertising on social sites, and all the people who would follow, subscribe or whatever already own or have access to a Ps3 so instead why not work on a page that works ‘Properly’! on the ps3.

You could have a link on the xmb to the ps blog. It would be like the old news bar in terms of success if you dont start putting in some serious info, some of the ps blog interviews are great but most of the time the same info can be found elsewhere and you dont do many at all. only time i check the ps blog is checking the store updates.

  • I have to go to fan sites and things to get detailed info on a game or some actual gameplay footage doesnt make sense when you guys have the power to make something you can then go say to any devolopers releasing a Ps3 game: 90% of the ps3 community will see this for example.

not saying the people at the ps blog should have to go and do interviews and get footage for all the upcoming games & things, if there is good coverage from another source use it. I am saying there should be a playstation backed! website that has detailed in depth info on every upcoming title and everything playstation.
instead of trying to follow other’s footsteps do something new, make the bigger move There is absolutly no reason to go to facebook keep it on the ps blog and playstation!

  • i can understand you using twitter so u can keep us updated regularly but lets face it last weeks example of the ps store update just shows us that will only happen for good news. But who knows whos fault that is lot of crybabies out there
after that long rant nothing should be on facebook or twitter without it beeing on the ps blog and if you guys are serious bout keeping us updated the ‘whats new’ thing aint gona cut it need a nice and easy informative website so if anyone wants to know more bout upcoming game or look at whats coming soon they go to a playstation website makes sence right.

  • i hate how everyone is saying “oh i want facebook integration, and twitter integration, and this chat, and that background music” Like seriously shut the hell up! if we had all those things it would be exactly like Xbox Live! If you want all that crap, just go buy the damn 360! Let sony do what they feel is right, and release apps when they think it is ready!

  • With the grey boxes around peoples friend list are you going to add on the side of them are you going to put what that person has played recently? Cause that would be cool. =D

Also add MGS4 trophies. go to konami and get them~! Need badly.

  • I propose a trade:

Start twatting your News feeds on Twitter and stop spamming them on our XMB.

  • @167 why don’t you change the damn font on in your settings menu where it says themes!? god! is everyone retarded!?

  • If youre over eighteen years old and on facebook, you have problems. I want to see Playstation on store shelves. Without gay sparkles in the background. We’re not playing Wii here; we are the hardcore sector that made the PS2 sell as many as it did. Fix this junk, I want good games at reasonable prices ON DISCS! Stop riding the wave of impending exclusives.

  • Jeff said: This is turning into the East Coast/West Coast rap wars all over again. Twitter and Facebook users *can* get along!

*lol* yes, especially since you can apply Twitter to your Facebook account, so it looks like they won’t bite each other that badly xD

  • Why dont you change the font in the settings menu where it says themes?

    Right

QFT. I despise the information board, i hate the scrolling ticker that we have now.

  • I think you should move away from the internet side of facebook, and have an integrated app on the PS3. Integrated PSN log-ons, uploading straight from the XMB of photos, a “Whats New” type screen for the PS3 Facebook page stuff like that.

Saying that, get an integrated PS Blog on there!! Whats stopping you? :)

  • The More I support and watch the Playstation brand, the more distant I’m becoming.

I think the Playstation 3 will NEVER match the features Microsoft is offering on the xbox. I think the Operating System was flawed from the very start and just getting in-game XMB was something just short of a miracle.

If this is true, Which feel is accurate then the competition is looking better and better. They do have 20+yrs of developing Operating Systems, it only makes sense they are good at it.

I’m questioning the choices SONY makes. Its a games console that doesn’t stand up to its biggest competitor in the online arena.

If I dont see some Gamer-Centric features soon (Major ones) mind you. I might not be loyal for much longer.

    fw3.00 is extremely dissapointing.

  • Let me reiterate…

…Gaming on the Xbox platform is 1000x’s easy then on the Playstation platform.

Gathering friends, “having FUN” TOGETHER, is seamless and is exactly what it should be.

You have a game system that lacks the “Seamless Ability” to game with others over a network. That is a pretty big dissadvantage.

  • @149

    1) The people who want digital games are idiots and are hurting gaming.

    2) Throwing insults instead of making a valid comeback. Really mature!

    3) There are not nearly enough strong, exclusive games for the system – because they’re focusing their efforts on irrelevant crap like Home and terrible FW updates with sparkles.

I’ll be here. complaining, until Sony finally starts acting like the #1 company they should be.

  • @16 Cross-gameplay chat is good for when people are doing single player games. But for multiplayer I think that should over-rule the cross gameplay chat and make you leave. It’s not fair to the other people on your team when they are shouting instructions and all you hear is the people you are chatting with.

  • @Liquizon, then take your sticky behind with you and go play on your crapbox but don’t come crying here when you’ve enountered RRoD number 75… its not like the “real” community would miss you.

*Honestly I’m getting so sick of all this*.

  • @ Wuggyboobeaufuf

have faint my brother im sure Sony well bring back our once loved XMB…confirm Jeff?

  • sori lol i meant faith ma bad.

  • @LiQuiZoN
then get out of here! no one cares..

  • Thanks for the updates Jeff , keep up the good work. I love the new firmware, and the groundwork it sets.

I must say your very restrained. If I were you I’d have an article on the blog saying “If you don’t stop moaning, I swear. . .no more firmware EVER!”. That’ll keep them going. :D

  • I wish for only one thing: Give me back my PLAYSTATION 3! I don’t care for anything else twitter, facebook who cares. I want to get rid of the Glitter Barbie-Meets-Ken XMB drama of firmware 3.0 codenamed: “My First Sony”.

  • @178: Are you BLIND or what? Well, if you use the new XMB too much you will turn blind or develop a seizure. My God, how can you say it’s a good firmware? I’ve had 20+ lockups on Uncharted and Singstar only today where there were none before!

  • @everyone who says the font is too big. . .The SAME number of characters (and XMB Icons) are viewable at any one time on the screen. No characters are missed. . .the font is just larger (without compromising actual options). It’s pointless having tiny words when you have such a big canvas. The firmware’s font is perfect and you will enjoy it if you give it a chance. I love how Album titles fade away leaving only the artwork when you highlight an album. It’s all great and I assume the grey boxes will eventually expand (when clicked) into full profile cards. Just relax and allow the firmware to develop. :)

  • @biker bob that’s called “differ in taste” and I like it too and with my eyes there’s nothing wrong, as far as my glasses can tell.

  • How about getting Facebook intergrated with Home?

  • I’d also just like to say that the kind of poster that litters this blog turning every informative post with “INGAME CHAT” doesn’t represent the full user base. A lot of us appreciate these updates take time, and SOME of us remember firmware 1.0 where we couldn’t even message in-game or do anything during a game for that matter. Just appreciate that the Firmware department have spent the past 2/3 years COMPLETELY rewriting code just for us (with no subscription). .we should be willing these guys on and saying, “Thanks, We appreciate it and look forward to what else you bring”, rather than continuously slandering them. The guys must have no self esteem left after you barbarians.

  • @cloudburst, amen to that.

  • @184 “The guys must have no self esteem left after you barbarians.”

    Deservedly so, after this rubbish.

  • cloudburst you are right and i remember

wuggybootbeaufuf (are u serious) shut up you are to spoilt.

the only real problems with the update are visual its obvious they have something planned for the friends list so just wait and see, and if it still looks bad just complain politely dont take cheap shots guys, dont even right anything if you dont have a suggestion on what you think might make it better,
they can add the option to change font size i dont like it either the xmb before used to be so tidy.

  • I would like to see some type of calendar that populates scheduled matches or event happenings around the PSN, intergrate with Facebook and Twitter. Interactive calendar if you will.

  • I’d liek to find out that more of my firends have ps3s so i can conect to them = without spamming every one of my facebook friends, espcially those who care little for games

  • i would prefer to be online during blu-ray or ps2 play.

-cross game voice chat not important to me
can’t tell you how much i do not want this and have no interest in it. RPGs, fps (normally have their own chat) and fighting games (have their own online chat) none of the games i play i would ever need or want it. Could see it being annoying on mgs4 as well tekken, RR, GT5p, lair, eternal sonata, etc.

-update life with playstation more often and allow us to add our towns

  • ability to see friends PSN ID if they are on facebook

  • BTW, I love the new font size. At 39 my vision is longer that of a 20 year old. In the news today your average PS3 gamer is 28 years old, that is about to change with the new price tag and the holidays coming up. Say goodbye to no frilly stuff cluttering up the XMB. PSN is about to be invaded by prepubecent loud mouth children. The average age will be 14 next year this time and the XMB will look like your kids designed it.

  • @188

    Hey, guess what?

No, I will NOT shut up!

This is a forum! For people to express their opinions!

Even ones that don’t lick Sony’s boots!

  • I’d like to see an update that focuses on the core functionality of the PS3… gaming, video watching, music listening (and maybe web browsing) instead of on the XMB. The XMB is the tool that gets me where I’m going… not the reason I booted the PS3 to begin with. Anything that makes the XMB more cluttered (larger icons) or more confusing (spinning clocks and list items that disappear when you stop moving the controller) just slows me down on my way to something fun. As Steve Krug said, “Don’t make me think!”

I don’t hate the new update like some others may, but I’m disappointed that it’s just one more in a list of updates that didn’t include anything new to enhance the actual use of the PS3 for its primary purposes, but instead focused on the XMB and other parts of the product that are about 2% of what the average user bought it for.

  • hmmmm id like 2 see a facebook application in the whats new section wen i turn on my PS3 i should see my facebook notifications

  • i hate how everyone is saying “oh i want facebook integration, and twitter integration, and this chat, and that background music” Like seriously shut the hell up! if we had all those things it would be exactly like Xbox Live! • The PlayStation 3 has a web browser. . .we have twitter, facebook, bebo, myspace, etc etc etc.

  • Sony please don’t waste your time on these things! IT’s fine to just post on the blog. Jeff I beg you…fix the software update as well, because the whole community does not like the grey boxes around our friends and we would like an option to resize the font and icons of the XMB

AND THIS would make the PS3 miles better!!!

    * Cross game voice chat (very important)
    * Party system in XMB (fix this!)
    * The PS Cloud that was a denied by Sony had some great things that will make PSN more interesting! Fix it!

    * Get exclusive DLC so MS can know how it feels. (Payback is what I want. Use the blu-ray money Sony gets from movies and BD players now!)

  • I took the survey and checked other then I wrote the following.

“an annoucement that you are fixing the ugly grey boxes added to the friends list with update 3.0”
