  • I don’t care for the update — the advertising, the friends icons, the font sizes. Is there a way to disable the scrolling news ticker? Besides never logging in, that is.

  • @1499

Set your output music freq. to 48khz. You should know be able to listen to music and look at pics.

  • uh oh, 1499 (holy crap that a big number) Doesn’t sound pleaased.. im afraid. 1500th!! lol

  • all of u guys who are waiting for Firmare version 3.0 are all sad wow lol am just browsing the website!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! get a life really its just an update i only play my ps3 on the weekends so i dont care ill get it later the 3.0

  • im kinda dissapointed but i cant really complain its free. but i still i hope one of these firmware updates will fix the server problems. and also i hope that these updates also can help the wireless signal from ps3 stronger

  • Good lord. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE fix the new friends list. That obnoxious gray bar looks hideous! Make an opacity option or just plain get rid of it. Thank you. =)

  • @ 1504

Dude, I know I’m not Sad. I just want to help Sony improve on what I believe is a great console. So relax. XMB doesn’t make/break the ps3, but if we can help Sony make the ps3 better, then I think we have the right to post our opinions.

  • now they fixed the time. im surprised they didnt add weather for your area.

  • Oh my god, what a disappointment Sony…

I wasn’t so excited about the new firmware in the first place because aside from the dynamic themes and multiple audio output it didn’t contained anything that catched my attention + I was verrrrry happy with the way my system looked: themed icons, custom wallpaper and tight small fonts.

The update destroyed all this. When I look at the menu’s now it looks as if i’m on a laptop with the screen resolution on 800×600 aka Rubbish! The maturity the navigation system exposed is gone, this is like the m$ Vista of firmware upgrades..

Idon’t mind the “whats new” as long as you can disable it from auto opening but I’m very disappointed of the commercial nature of this update! I know that sony is not a charity company but come on, this update adds nothing for the hardcore gamer instead it just tries to link you as much as possible to payed content and gives the system an overal chilldish and cheap plain commercial/mainstream look..

This is the most disappointing firmware upgrade I have ever seen.

There is nothing wrong with broadening your consumer group but this is just a smack in the face for true PS3 fans!

Hope you will fix this, a disappointed PS3 fan!

  • @TruRage something like that yes, in the meantime I’m waiting for the moon to drop down…. in the LBP theme that is xD

Ehm help what does the the Icon mean next to the amount of friends in the bar? No not the envelope icon but some chat icon. I thought it had to do with text chat but I have no invitation. Does anyone know that perhaps?

  • I like the update but i just have this to say…

I wish the friends list didn’t look like that.. it just seems like the grey boxes are there for no reason…

Also dynamic themes should be interactive with the sixaxis. Ex. Sackboy running and when u shake the controller he jumps.

It would also be nice if there were in-game themes as well.

    Thank you for your time!

  • @DANO69
AWSOME POST, TYPING IN ALL CAPS AND MISPELING WORDZ MAKES PEOPLE TAKE YOU MORE SERIOUSLY

  • Why did you had a PS Store icon in Video and Games it doesn’t make sense????

Also, the friend list is horrible!!!!!!!!!!!!

    What happenned???????

    WORST. UPDATE. EVER.

  • Sorry, but initially I thought this update was good but then I saw the flaws, big time flaws! First, loading everything takes significantly longer, I dont care if they removed the boot up logo or not. Second, what the hell is the deal with the sound output? Sony has a long history of confusing people, could you possibly explain in laments terms how this stuff works and what exactly is effected. Third, this has been said before, give us a choice in some of these changes. I understand that alot of this is designed to make things easier and so forth but come on! Many of us do not like many of these cosmetic changes and feel that it is becoming too cluttered. Too much going on, alot of stuff not many of us care about. I liked it better when it was simpler and streamlined and this is just begging for a complete makeover, from the ground up! Change is good but Choice is better!

  • Ah never mind…. its a text chat icon…. *duh*, weird I didn’t get a message.

  • Get rid of the gray boxes on the friends list or make them optional! They don’t fit in with the XMB aesthetic at all.

  • cool update. Everything is nice except for the huge text and the highlights on the friends list.

  • @ #1502 Thanx a lot!!

  • I just hope you guys make some of this features optional in a future firmware, the ability to pick your system font size, disable PS video store shortcut (my country doesn’t have that store so its pointless) and please make the friend list a little better (give it some spacing between friends and some opacity), and about the battery level icon i think even though it’s not blocking the clock anymore it is misplaced maybe it should be in a bottom right or left corner. I like the animating backgrounds and the what’s new section, don’t care that much about news ticker but i think should be optional too. Anyway thanks for the update.

  • To add my voice to the chorus, then, I did not care for the 3.00 update:

    1. Option needed to disable the ticker.
    2. PSN store icons are now at a level of overkill. Scale it back to one, please and thank you.
    3. Friends list is now entirely ugly, but if, as some suggest, this is a prep for further profile card customizations, then this could be a good thing.

Overall this push on spamming us with store icons, and ad tickers is a little much. The arguement of “the PSN is free” does not wash: make no mistake, we all have paid for PSN in one form or another. At best, PSN is offered “at no additional charge” (for now). The lack of an annual subscription in no way excuses spam!

The rest of the changes to the XMB I can live with. “What’s new” has some potential, however there should also be an option to turn it off for those who don’t like it. Perhaps further options to customize it with particular feeds? e.g. specific games you want to track, updates to the PS Blog, etc. I’d really like to get rid of the ad for the Hanna Montana PSP, and replace it with say, a feed for the new Ratchet & Clank.

  • I agree with the most of the feedback around here.

In general, the direction that the GUI design is heading to now is not good since we are getting away from the minimalistic looks we all liked. Apart from that, I might subjectively not like it but the friends list is objectively ugly.

At the end, not very useful features and not even a decent 1 that directly serves the main purpose of the system (in a 3.0 update).

Not complaining much though, just confused by sony pretends.

  • Wow nearly 20 pages of people wishing they never asked for what they wanted. Awesome. The breakdowns/complaining in this blog post are almost legendary at this point. They do their best, I’m okay with the changes and think that over time, they will grow more on me.

  • Don’t like advertising under system time. Please be less brutish in your marketing. A clean, uncluttered interface was why I liked PS3 over XBox 360 originally.

  • Guess you won’t be receiving my $3 for the LBP theme. And you know why? Because the friends list will block out the theme (maybe I should say sun a la 300)

  • lol – I will give this update a new name. It will be known as the Infamous “Friendlist Grey-Box Scandal”!

But Srsly, I really think this is a default template to our (non-available) dynamic avatars. Not only will we get new avatars, but maybe the entire grey-box will be dynamic?? It has to be….just has to be…

    /wrist

  • Wow, I’m really surprised by all the whiners. It’s like it’s become the new conformist trend, lol.

  • I don’t mind it at all. Think it looks great. Thanks Sony.

And for those who are responding with “WHAT WE REALLY WANT…” Speak only for yourself. You’re not a representative for the opinions of everyone else regarding this subject, and especially not those who are appreciative of this free and expansive update.

If you don’t like it, fine, lay down your opinons. But don’t act like Sony doesn’t listen or do multiple group study on usability and functionality. They won an Emmy for it. They know a lot more on building a clean and user-friendly interface than you do. And if the majority of these studies show that people want ease of access to the store laid in each category, then Sony will do just that.

Be appreciative of what you got, and if there is something you miss or would like added, do so in a polite matter with explanations. Getting angry and belittling Sony’s hardworking effort will get you nowhere.

  • The background blur gives me a headache. Please allow me to turn it off or get rid of it.

  • PLEASE SONY……….Fix this. “OPTIONS” to modify the xmb to our heart’s content would helpful.

Also, STOP ignoring 1500 plus post! Not a single reply? GROW a pair.

    Thank You

  • Just my two cents.

1.- Friend List. It’s a nice improvement but those gray boxes looks pretty hideous SONY still need to work more on this.

2.- Avatars. Wouldn’t be nice if we could have as a avatar our Sack Boys?

    Cheers.

  • OMG!! I can’t believe how you guys messed the so good looking XMB:

    – Ugly friend list, completely ugly.
    – Ugly status box, full of spam, with 2 clocks, and without an options for the ticker to go off.
    – A starting PS3 logo, that doesn’t match with my PS3 Phat version.
    – No more PS logo when opening a game.
    – No trophy sorting/addons separation as metioned.
    – Full of PS Store everywhere, in your face.
    – Big fonts and Icons with no choice to adjust.
    – Blur background which kills my eyes.
    – No Avatars.
    – Dynamic LBP not free – $3.00.

QUESTION: Does the marketing team kidnapped the UI designer guys ?? If so, i demand them to release them back !!!

    – Where is Backward Compatibility ?
    – Where is crossgame chat.
    – Where is a better sorting for folders and games.
    – Where is a more info/detail/sorting of friend’s trophies.
    – Where is better game invites ?
    – Where is the ability to create internet bookmarks directly to the XMB.

And i can keep going, WTF!!

    This is miserable !!

    Another Micro$oft is emerging.

A pissed and disappointed Sony fan.

  • well it came out last night i updated but soon as i did 1 of my controllers stopped working and what i mean by that is it wont connect to the ps3 unless it’s conncted to the charge cord other than that this update is amazing

  • Background blur is very obnoxious, hurts my eyes too.

  • @kazukifafner indeed, @bluerei, thanks that includes me as well.

    @ SharkRocket7 | September 1st, 2009 at 10:39 am

Guess you won’t be receiving my $3 for the LBP theme. And you know why? Because the friends list will block out the theme (maybe I should say sun a la 300)

How’d you know if you even haven’t downloaded it and eh no…. it doesn’t.

  • The only good part about Firware Downgrade 3.0 is knowing that a handful of Sony employees are huddled around their monitor dripping beads of sweat…and saying to themselves, “Maybe we should have listened to the design team rather than the marketing team.”

  • @ bluerei#1527
lol good point u really cnt complain for sumthing thats free

  • Background Blur Rox!!

I like it when I’m in my ps3 chatroom with my friends and I see sackboy running and running

    and running

    and running….

    and running…..

  • It’s not really a major update, I’m not feeling the psn store shortcuts, or the new friends list, you should of add bigger things.

  • @ Onna76_NL

“We look forward to your feedback once the update goes live.”

Please stop trolling on people for doing EXACTLY what was asked. We get it, you think the update is amazing, but there are over a 1000 others here who think otherwise and are voicing their opinions.

You can call it complaing, you can call it crying, but it is all feedback. Even if they don’t respond, Sony reads EVERY ONE of these comments. Feedback whether positive or negative is always a good thing for any company.

    Please:
Give the option to the user on what font size and color works best for them.

Give the option to disable the news ticker.

Give the option to remove the friend list boxes. If they will be used in the future, then why are they here now since this is the last major update this year?

  • The update is nice, but I can’t believe that you are charging for the LBP dynamic theme! You guys have to throw us a bone before we start begging for more (aka where you charge us). That applies for “premium avatars” too. Otherwise, keep up the good work.

  • Downloaded the update, I like the look of the friends list before the update.
