I Wanna Take YoU 4 A Ride this Thursday!

What’s up P-Essers? I’m here today to announce the imminent arrival of one of the worst kept secrets in the industry. You’ve seen the ESRB leak. You’ve seen the MadCatz joysticks. You probably visited a cryptic sight called www.tu4ar.com that just counted down to zero.

If you’ve been paying attention to my blogs and interviews, I’ve been leaking info about this day for quite some time. We conducted this Gamespot poll back in March of 2008 to gauge interest on what games you want to see us bring back. We listened to your feedback and tried to work quietly on the project. Well, as you know, I’m not the quiet type (the PR Ninjas here don’t like me so much). There was this MTV interview in June of last year, my PS blog on August 14th alluding to a Street Fighter surprise, and numerous blogs after that teasing this announcement.

So what’s the announcement? Here it is, officially:

Yes that’s right. Marvel Vs. Capcom 2 will finally arrive on PSN this summer! For more information on the full game, go visit Capcom-Unity.com.

This Thursday, April 30, PlayStation Network users will enjoy a free, exclusive MVC2 demo! No need to purchase another game, just download it straight to your PS3 and get ready for some triple tag team action (A big thank you goes out to Rommel Hernandez who helped make this exclusive demo possible).

Here are the details of the demo:

  • Two-player local matches
  • Six available characters – Ryu, Chun-Li, Strider, Spider-Man, Iron Man and Wolverine
  • Seven selectable environments
  • Upscaled 1080p graphics
  • Widescreen or 4:3 aspect ratio
  • Two graphic filter options for character sprites
  • And other cool options to check out

    So is there going to be a PS3 Bionic Commando demo? If 360 is getting a MvC2 demo eventually why isn’t there a BC demo for PS3?

    So John, Whats your Favorite MvC2 Team?

    I been recently really enjoying Cable(a), Dr Doom(a), and Sentinel(y).

    I get a small devious satisfaction from all the flocking firepower from that team.

    I think my all time favorite is Jill Valentine though, classic attacks and insane power.

    First: I wasn’t knocking capcom at all they are awesome, its unfortunate you will be missing out on there great games in the future….you should definately reconsider.

    I was however making a sly comment about the pay for demo trend that has been going on.(even though i pay for everyone i can)

    Second to Mr. Diamonon I already own RE5, SF4CE(collectors, 1942, Commando, BCR, Puzzle fighter, SFA…so if i can fake/find your “evidence” of trophies comment will I win MvC2? (I will fire up photoshop and even fake a googlecache page….dont ask)

    one more time….MvC3 PLEASE!

    oh and caddillacs and dinosaurs was totally radical and needs an HD update/remix….

    come on don’t you want to see a stegosaurs in a hawiian shirt in HD…..

    I know i dream of that day………Id even pay $40 for it…

    Hey John

    Since you guys have Dead Rising 2 for the PS3, have you thought of releasing the first Dead rising as well?

    Personally, I reckon something like a PSN version would be a great idea. Like how Criterion did with Burnout Paradise. This way you won’t have to have needless costs such as packaging and etc and porting a MT framework 1 game should be reletively easy.

    It would be a good way to prepare PS3 only users for Dead Rising 2.

    This game sucks it was already broken on every system it was on. So what the game makes it any better because its online WOW. I might as well sell my all my games too. Like im going to be an idiot and sell my hard earn games to get this. Also I already got 3 mvc2 on every system so this game is out for me nuff said.

    This is reason why I didn’t get the Street Fighter IV game. I had a gut feeling to hold off on buying the game. I had the original MvC2 on PS2, which had all of my favorite Marvel characters. To know that it will be released on PSN this summer is the best damn news I have heard in a while.

    I worked at an arcade when this was a hit. We “wasted” so much time on this game and loved every minute. Thanks John D for making my year. I only have one complaint and it’s not about price for once.

    Why not go with the unlockable model? That was the best part of the arcade and if I remember correctly Dreamcast, didn’t DC have a store to buy unlockables? I miss those days.

    Hey John we need an online tournament battle mode for SF4 please. It sucks to have to have a person that keeps the scores and I never know what’s really going on.

    Wow, I can’t believe this game is being redone. First the Dreamcast fails, then people complain about not being able to get HAPP joysticks for the PS2, or that the infinites don’t work.

    I surely hope when I attempt to double dash infinite with Magneto, the game is not so fixed that it does not let me.

    Oh, and in case you wanted to know, I am the 7th highest ranked Tourny player for this game. I’m sure Wong is going to download this, and then be mad when the bugs are fixed. Fly/unfly and whatnot.

    Hint, I’m from NY.

    again can we please get solid information on a release date and price. sony has a habit of annoucing something way too soon. i dont want the demo out tomorrow and the game show up in march 2010. this would follow their pattern. just give us real details. and none of that just wait. we’ve been fed that line about numerous projects(anythiny ps1 related)for years and we’re sick of it. y is it so hard to make money when people r literally telling u what they will pay for? Duh?

      The price is $14.99. Release dates are tough to pin down at this point because it has to go through a number of first party submissions and approvals. We\’re working on a summer release for this title.

    Oh man, I just godda say, Capcom is the best at whatever it is they do. most of the time they do something and dont even know its awesome. This totally gives me hope about dlc on psn, i can just almost smell capcom vs snk 2. if that game goes online folks it’s all dunzo. SF4 is so much better than I hoped, surpasses all expectations of the franchise. i luv being able to play single player while waiting for a match, sure I never make it past the first guy, but I don’t have to stop playing to search 4 a new player… it’s like an infinite tournament tree. Keep wow-ing me guys!!!!

    Why the heck do trophies/achievements matter to people so much? It isn’t like you getting something out of it other than a virtual pat on your back. All it does for you guys is makes yourself feel better about something you did in a game. It is sad that some of you base a purchase of a game solely on that. Woo pity doo. >_>

    Oh and the price? That’s good for what you pay. Online, HD graphics, and the comforting thought that you didn’t pay 80 plus for the game on a different console.

    What I said won’t stop people from whining, but I had to get that off my chest. Some of you are never happy.

    Considering the fact that the rumors persisted for MONTHS before you/Capcom slapped this down, I’m disappointed at spending $15 for (while able to played on a superior D-pad) a trophy/achievement-less and sort-of-bad (though in Capcom’s defense, 2D fighting games online just don’t work) netcode. Disappointed.

    It is good that Marvel vs Capcom 2 is coming to the PSN. I’ll download the demo to see the fliter options and online play, but I will get more practice on the Dreamcast version so I can be one step ahead of the competition.
    On a side note, this game does not need new characters, backgrounds, etc. It is fine the way it is.

    Secondly, the people on the other forums like gamefaqs are complaining because they want every sprite redrawn ( the Darkstalkers could use a make over but thats another subject)
    If Capcom did that, then the game would be in the $30-$50 range

    I’m so glad this is coming! I lost my copy for the PS2 AND the Dreamcast (yes, I bought it twice) when I moved back to NY. So psyched to have this as a download (hard to lose those, lol). I wonder if Sony would consider bringing back the Toishinden Series or create a new Sony exclusive fighter. These days fighters are practically the only games you can play with people actually in your home. It’d be sweet to have one that takes advantage of the system.

    It has been a long, LONG wait for this game. Thank you guys for giving us one heck of a classic game (something rare for downloadable games at the moment)at a reasonable price and with extra stuff with the game. One thing I have always remembered is that the ‘Capcom VS’ series pretty much made the whole Mugen PC community because people want too see and play characters that they wish would make the series. Being someone who can relate to those in the Mugen community, will there ever be a possibility of new characters as DLC for this release (palette swaps aren’t out of the question), or will we just have to wait for MVC3? I’m sure I’m not alone in this…
