This Week on PlayStation.Blog

Here’s what we’re working on for this week…

Instead of a poll this week, I wanted to ask more of a free-form question…

This weekend, I split my time between two excellent co-op experiences, Resident Evil 5 and Flock (I’m sure John D would be happy to hear this :-D). While Mrs. PlayStation Blog couldn’t care less about shotgunning zombies (I married her anyway), she instantly fell in love with Flock, and we spent a good amount of time playing it together. I think it was the cow poop that drew her in.

The dynamic reminded me of PixelJunk Monsters, which I know a lot of couples enjoy playing co-op. My question to you is: What game(s) are you enjoying playing with your significant other these days?

  • I’ve never been a big fan of sports based video games (I’d rather play the real thing) so I’m no good at them. This means my wife and I are at the same level of skill. She’s beaten me in Madden more times than I’ve beaten her.

Otherwise Rock Band/Guitar Hero is always fun.

  • My GF is a true gamer. She’s been playing since the NES days. We enjoy LBP together. She’s also my backseat support when I play one player games like, Fallout 3, Ratchet & Clank, GTA 4, etc.

She can hold her own in Street Fighter as well.

  • RAG DOLL KUNG FU! WHAT A GREAT GAME!

OH AND ALSO MAGIC BALL WHICH I HAD TO BEG HER TO PLAY…FOR SOME REASON SHE LIKES THAT OTHER CONSOLE, YOU KNOW THE ONE THAT HAS THE GAMES WHERE YOU BAKE CAKES OR TAKE CARE OF DOGS OR BABIES.

  • Any chance we could hurry things up and get AOTS and X-Play on the Playstation Network? I’d like to see those on there almost as much as new PS1 games. I can’t justify spending $120 per month on cable just for G4, but at just $14 per week for all the latest G4 episodes, I’m all over it. I know I can get them on XBL, but I don’t turn my Xbox on at all if I can help it, and the cost of memory is outrageous on the 360. I have 500GB to fill on my PS3 that only cost me around $100…

Please bring G4 to PSN ASAP!!!!!!!!!!

  • RockBand2 as a *Family* but My wife kicks it with the FPS so KZ2 right now, before that it was R2, before that COD4, before that Resistance. A little WAW, Warhawk & Socom mixed in for good measure. We’re a 3 PS3 Family and as long as the game is online Co-Op, My *Gamer-Girl* Wife is onboard with that. [Though she did enjoy the sh%t outta BioShock] -Make Kung Fu Plastic Online MP someday too, please!

  • Well, my girlfriend and I play alot of LittleBigPlanet together :)

and (although this isn’t a playstation title) we also play a ton of Left 4 Dead on the PC together.

(Had to build her a PC just to get her off of mine lol XD )

  • PS: Ya just GOT married Jeff, coming from another *Jeff* , just keep trying and make sure the Misses has HER OWN PS3. At Least her own profile, but it’s very important for peeps to customize there own sh&t! My wife insisted she upgrade her own PS3 Hard Drive as opposed to me just doing it for her. I can get in trouble if I even get online *for her* to do a patch/upgrade to save her time…It’s HER PS3. It’s made all the difference in the world. We both enjoy gaming, and it opens up a whole lotta games you can play together.

  • I play LBP, Singstar, and a bit of PJM! I’m picking up FLOCK soon(needs some money).

I’ll be asking a specific question very soon… SHHH!

  • My girlfriend and I play Rock Band 2 and LittleBigPlanet all the time. She picks some of the easier songs but it’s all in good fun. As far as LBP goes, she comes down pretty hard on rating people’s levels. I’m always like, “But this person spent literally hours crafting this awesome roller coaster,” and she says, “But neither of us got points for that!” Women are awesome.

Other than that, she won’t ever play it under any circumstances but she loves watching me play Street Fighter IV, if for no other reason than to laugh at the people who rage quit.

  • we actually play street fighter hd turbo remix together. I have to let her win most of the time otherwise she’ll get frustrated and would want to stop playing.

She loves anime, so i picked up valkyria chronicles which has a great story. but all she has see is gameplay witch isnt that fun to watch.

i wish we could play eden or monsters but she doesnt like the way the characters look.
She does watch me play kz2 but hates hearing everyones banter online. so i mute but its hard to play without hearing everyone around.

    oh well.

I hope fat princess has offline multiplayer!

  • my significant other loves singstar and rockband, and will beat me everytime on football and baseball games, im a nerd even in the videogame world i just dont do sports…….
LittleBigPlanet is easily our favourite together!

  • … there were so few decent co-op games available when the PS3 first released that I ended up buying my husband his own PS3 so we could game together.

We play a lot of Warhawk together, but most recently we’ve been playing Killzone.

In terms of games that just the two of us play… well, it’s a little embarrassing to admit this, but we love Singstar! We’ll often spend an entire afternoon just trying to beat each other’s scores in singing!

… I do wish I could talk him into trying Little Big Planet though… I played it with my sister-in-law when she came for a visit and it’s a great co-op game!!

  • Update the avatars.

  • I don’t know any other way to play video games than with both hands <.<

    Sorry, couldn’t resist. :(

  • My wife and I enjoy playing Wheel of Fortune together.

  • My girlfriend isn’t very good at videogames, but I taught her how to play Noby Noby Boy, and she really digs it. Must be the farting noises. =\

  • what a great way to start the week Jeff , Infamous getting its released date and to my surprised it was an early released date lol , Jeff i hope we see more of Heavy Rain, White knight Chronicles, Yakuza 3 , and others ps3 games soon , what happened to Wardevil??? im really curious to know more about it

  • Great question, my wife is not a gamer at all but finally I got her playing Wheel of Fortune with me.

Jeff, please let SOE to add better women faces in WOF, the ones that came with it are just horrible…lol

  • Are we gonna actually ever, you know, SEE Mrs. PlayStation.Blog? :p

  • Rock Band is currently our favorite, but over the last 2 decades, we’ve played many many games “together” – meaning he uses the controller and I kibitz. Starting way back with Abe’s Oddysee, through Ico, and Okami we developed a tag-team style. I’m good with locations, directions, and clues – he’s good at the jumping and fighting stuff. Only once have I broken down and used a controller for co-op play – Lego Star Wars – awesome!

  • @79 AGQ0105 Yeah it is an amazing PSN Profile concept design- and it would be great if Sony make something like it. I’m sure they’ve got something good up their sleeve…

  • Any news on whether the psn form of FFVII is coming our way?

  • I don’t have a significant other sadly but, I will be happy if STF 2 hd remix gets trophies for it.

  • PSBlog has already posted two of the three games it announced it would this week, and the one they didn’t was supposed to be announced last week. I’m beginning to think Fat Princess is a figment of my imagination! ;)

  • Normally my wife gets upset if I hog the TV for too long playing Resistance 2. But if I start up LBP, she’ll join me. She even gets upset if I play without her :)

  • the g/f still loves flOw!!! i can’t believe it but we keep going back to that (classic) game. she loves collecting all the organisms before i do.

    peace,
    Lh

  • awesome… im checking this blog every day now, there is just new content all the time… keep up the good work!!

  • How about some Killzone 2 Steal & Titanium map pack information?

  • HHMMM, my wife likes to play All hotshots golf, including the ones on psp. She also enjoys Tiger Woods 2005 and up. What can I say she is a golfer. She does get mad when I beat her, in game only.hahahaha.

  • Mrs. AceRazer1 also loves Flock. And she hates RE5 and violent games in general. Except GTAIV, she enjoys mowing people down with the Patriot. Interesting.

  • Pixeljunk Eden has been the big one that my girlfriend and I have played together.

  • Jeff can you get Sony to add a Copy/Backup All Game Saves to removeable media. It gets tiring backing them up one at a time when you own quite a few games.

  • Most recently my wife has enjoyed Buzz, along with some block dropping goodness in the Sonic Collection (i.e. Columns & Dr. R’s MBM).

Unfortunately it’s been awhile since my wife has been on the kit for some Rock Band 2. We tried out the multiplayer for Magic Ball, and quickly agreed it’s more fun as a single player game (btw, thanks for the DLC tease, Jeff!). I think she misses the more story driven games I used to play, as she’d watch/listen whilst knitting (why are women seemingly better at the multitasking?). With kids, it’s much easier nowadays to get my gaming fix with quick pick up and play puzzlers or shooters.

Right now my eldest daughter is enjoying Flower with daddy. It’s one game where she can master the controls like a big girl :)

  • Me and my significant other have been rocking out on Rock Band 2 getting a bunch of DLC and tryin em all out. its been amazing.

  • As if it wasn’t clear already, I think the lack of diversity in these responses clearly indicates that PS3 is definitely lacking in local multiplayer games.

  • My wife loves watching the old Final Fantasy games! I play through them and attempt to do all the different voices when reading the dialog. We’re currently finishing FFIV, then it’s onto FFV. This will be our second time running through the entire series.

Other than that, she loves watching games like Ratchet & Clank, Sly Cooper, etc… The only games she’ll play are party games (like mario party, shrek super party) and easy button-mashing fighting games that she can win at, lol.

  • me & my wife play all the hot shot golf games. but i wish more than 1 user could log onto the playstation at a time like u can on the xbox 360.if both of us could log on we would prob. play more games online.

  • NEXT WEEKS POLL QUESTION

  • SHOULD BE
How important is IN GAME MUSIC/ IN GAME AND CROSS GAME PRIVATE PARTY VOICE CHAT/ B/C?
    A) I would pay $50 a year for all 3 and my friends and I would double our ps3 games list
    B) I would pay $25 a year for those 3 features
    C) I would pay $10 a year for those 3 features
    D) I perfer the text….lol this is hard to write..I perfer the text chat feature

  • Don’t have a significant other either and my mom doesn’t like playing games, she rather uses my Internet instead *lol*.

Plus this miss is too busy atm with her reborn addiction “Oblivion”. So if there would be a significant other right now… he should go find a PS3 for himself to get busy with ha ha ha.

  • Urgh… not again *pointing at post above me*. I go with D, I don’t care about those features. I only wish to see one, just one… to turn off Trophy notification like with messages in screen. That’s all really.

  • Me and the hubby play LBP (a lot!!!), Monopoly (when I make him!) GTA 4 (not co-op, unfortunately) and Mortal Kombat II.

  • I agree with FILTHYMcNASTY above…I would also like it if both of us could log on at the same time.

  • Is it possible we could get a Fat Princess announcement today? If I may offer some constructive criticism, it’s taking a little long to get a response. It was announced on the 6th that more info would come out last week. Then, on the 10th it was announced it was pushed back a couple of days. Again it was announced on the 13th. Here we are on the 15th, and still no announcement. Hopefully, this comes across not as a complainer, but as a fan who is REALLY excited about Fat Princess. I appreciate the PSBlog, and the effort you put into interacting with your customers. :)

  • What kind of updates on infamous are you planning to put? New gameplay footage perhaps? Please Respond.

  • may i know whe re5 dlc is region locked???

i payed for in the US store while i have the asian game (for early release) and it didn’t work!!!

capcom, releasing a region free game with a region lock dlc….WTH!!??

  • she’s not my Girlfriend, but she is a good friend. Me and her play Call of Duty World at War all the time. Matter of fact i think we’re playing tonight =D

  • We like to play Buzz. But lately she’s been wanting to play Little Big Planet.

  • Resident Evil 5 and Left for death were some of our favorite co-op games

  • Supersonic Acrobatic Rocket powered battle cars (SARPBC) is what we’ve been playing together. I’ll usually stick to defense and let her score easy goals on the opponent to keep her addicted.

SARPBC got subpar reviews when it was released (for 15 bucks) but was patched and price reduced (now at 10). It’s going to be patched again with more DLC (free) with an additional map in the near future. I would recommend it. It’s also one of the few games you can do offline and online together.. a feature I wish more games had.
