Many of you may be wondering when we plan to announce the release date for inFamous. Well today, we have a little surprise for you….the release month is no longer June. Now wait, I know what you’re thinking…inFamous is NOT delayed, in fact, the guys up at Sucker Punch have been working so hard that the game will be releasing in the U.S. on May 26!

Now with just a little over a month until the game hits shelves, inFamous pre-order goodness begins today. Those who pre-order the game at participating retailers will have a chance to get one of the following:

  • An exclusive ‘Gigawatt Blades’ Super Power: The Gigawatt Blades supercharges Cole’s arm into an instrument of destruction unmatched by any other melee weapon in game. Although very powerful, you’ll still have to use this weapon wisely, as it takes a considerable drain on your powers.

  • Limited-edition inFamous costume for Home Avatar – Look like one of the REAPER gang members.

inFamous Reaper in Home

  • Early access to the official Game Demo. Be one of the first to play inFamous on May 7th.

And, yes, the inFamous demo will be made available to everyone on the PlayStation Network on May 21. We’ve got a lot more surprises on the way the next few weeks, so stay tuned…..

    wow what a way to start the week!!!! nice, im getting infamous day 1, why cant best buy get all the good stuff gamestop gets??? i have had bad experiences going to gamestop and i refuse to support them anymore , but im getting the game day 1 thats for sure, demos should come to everyone at the same time, that only hurts you guys, btw Asad i dont like your avatar lol, glory glory manchester united

    While I don’t condone the idea of pre-ordering for early access to a demo, it’s kind of a non issue. There doesn’t have to be a demo at all.

    The troubling thing to me is the ‘exclusive super power’ when you pre-order. This is either:

    1. A move that’s essentially the same as another, but ‘looks’ different — nothing game changing, therefore has no real value.

    2. Something that will be sold as DLC a few months (weeks?) after release.

    Or both, perhaps.

    How about taking the Dead Space/Little Big Plante route and reward your ‘early adopters’ who have the game during the 1st week of release instead of lording some ultimately worthless, fan-boy fodder over us for our pre-order?

      MS3Boy, really appreciate your post and value your feedback.

      Just a note on the power from the context of how I\’ve used it. It\’s super useful when you are fighting a swarm of gangs..you\’ve got one guy left, next to zero health and far from recharge point…you can switch on Gigawatts, take out last gang member and head to regenerate health.

      I hope you still decide to get the game and enjoy it.

    I really have a problem with Sony consistently punishing consumers who don’t feel the need to pre-order as of late. It’s one thing to give pre-orderers silly tchochkees or early access to DLC or exclusive demoes (which I also think is dumb because it’s turning an advertisement into a bargaining chip, but whatever), but punishing gamers who don’t know if they want to commit enough to buying the game at launch that they pre-order it with not being allowed in-game powers is completely anti-consumer and ridiculous. I’m still going to get the game because it looks flippin’ awesome and Sucker Punch has never done me wrong, but this is shameful.

    I like to pay for things I have no experience with so I can sample them.

    Also, I’m a blithering idiot.

    You got it backwards, people. Give out the hors d’oeuvres for free, or if you absolutely need the money since you’re not letting me help plump your cash assets by releasing PSOne Classics I would buy, put it as a Qore exclusive.

    Paying $60 to play a demo is insulting.

    Maybe I should just preorder to download the demo and then cancel my preorder after downloading the demo.

    Are the gigawatt blades gonna be available later in the game to those who don’t pre-order the game? Is it just early access to the power instead of waiting to unlock it normally?

    If not, that’s pretty screwed up.

    Great news! :)

    However, I must add that I am not a fan of pre-order bonuses. Especially ones that offer new gameplay features. All that should be the same for everybody IMO. The Home stuff is cool though since that doesn’t affect the game in any way.

    Will the gigawatt blades be available in the game normally, (ie through karma choices and leveling up your powers?)

    cause I’d rather not start the game with this sort of power, it just looks uber deadly. Regardless I plan to pre-order … inFamous looks amazing, and I’ve only had good things to say about Sucker Punch in my child hood.

    Why is everybody complaining about the demo being a early access preorder bonus? The game releases on May 26 and the demo for everybody else comes out on May 21. You got 5 days to try the demo before you have to go to the store and get it the game or not. Preorder the game from Amazon or another retailer with the other bonus items. Am getting mine from Amazon! Thanks Sony!

    Great news though I think that having all of these things available through pre-order no matter who the retailer would be is much better for pre-order sales. Why force the consumer to buy from someone they don’t wish to support just because they want an exclusive that the retailer has?

    Great values on the pre-orders themselves, but how much better for the fans would it be for the pre-order to consist of an exclusive power, early access AS WELL as HOME gear? I think if anything, HOME gear as extras for pre-orders really drives players towards using it more. I myself haven’t even downloaded HOME yet and I really don’t feel any urge to, but if I were to get the outfit for HOME I might just downloaded it just to check it out and isn’t that the least Sony would want?
