inFamous Not Releasing This June, After All

243 12

Many of you may be wondering when we plan to announce the release date for inFamous. Well today, we have a little surprise for you….the release month is no longer June. Now wait, I know what you’re thinking…inFamous is NOT delayed, in fact, the guys up at Sucker Punch have been working so hard that the game will be releasing in the U.S. on May 26!

Now with just a little over a month until the game hits shelves, inFamous pre-order goodness begins today. Those who pre-order the game at participating retailers will have a chance to get one of the following:

  • An exclusive ‘Gigawatt Blades’ Super Power: The Gigawatt Blades supercharges Cole’s arm into an instrument of destruction unmatched by any other melee weapon in game. Although very powerful, you’ll still have to use this weapon wisely, as it takes a considerable drain on your powers.

inFamous Gigawatt Blades

  • Limited-edition inFamous costume for Home Avatar – Look like one of the REAPER gang members.

inFamous Reaper in Home

  • Early access to the official Game Demo. Be one of the first to play inFamous on May 7th.

And, yes, the inFamous demo will be made available to everyone on the PlayStation Network on May 21. We’ve got a lot more surprises on the way the next few weeks, so stay tuned…..

  • This game looks awesome!
Can’t wait…but will…don’t want a demo early. Seems silly to offer that as a selling bonus, especially when everyone will get it eventually.

Hook me up wit’ da otha [DELETED]…WHOOT!

  • looks like a very cool power! I will be buying this game ASAP!

  • this pre-order BS is out of hand.

I want to order from Amazon. I get free 2 day shipping not to mention they actually offer games for a little less than retail ($57) which is unheard of when it comes to games. I can give two craps about a home outfit. Yet to get anything cool I have to go through gamestop, pay $60 plus tax and shipping. And to get the demo I have to go Best Buy or somewhere else? This is getting out of hand with offering all this trivial crap to different retailers.

  • I have a question regarding people that have already pre-ordered before today. Do those of us (me included) get the pre-order bonus as well? Even though we pre-ordered before today? Since you said the pre-order goodness starts today. Please clarify if we will.

  • 100 bucks says this game is broken and will need a patch badly at launch, you should not have let them bump up the release date to compensate for a weak spring line up. Patience is a virtue.

  • Could somebody explain me what’s up with giving a demo after purchasing?

For me, demos are given for free to decide to purchase or not.

The nice thing in this post is to know the developers finished the game early (hope they corrected the animation on how you throw lightnings from your hands, it looks too stiff and lacks of the powerful emotion throwing lightnings out of your hands could be: “look at me I’m awesome!!”)

  • The sooner Sucker Punch releases inFamous, the sooner they’ll start making the next Sly Cooper game, am I right? Please don’t leave your loyal fan base hanging, and give us news about Sly Cooper!

  • This is just dumb. Giving out stuff that actually affects the game is imo just lame. I’ve been really looking forward to this game for a very long time (ever since E3 07 in fact) and it’s such a big turnoff to see annoying stuff like “exclusive preorder bonus powers”. Honestly it’s getting quite annoying. I really want this game but I don’t want to support these actions.

I guess I still have a bit over a month to think about it but this preorder bonus is making the opposite effect on me than what it should’ve been. Oh and worst of all it’s freakin GameStop, now if I want the “full” game I need to freakin listen to the annoying GS employees talk for 10 min about some promotion before I actually get to buy the game.

  • lmao wow, now I am stuck between this and monster hunter

  • We are everywhere!

Thanks for the reply, United FTW! =D

  • Asad thanks for replying to my post lol even if im a united fan lol , im liking all of the items to be honest , i like the extra power, demo early( even though i dont support this idea) demos should be out to everyone to try it at the same time, and the home costume( even though i dont visit home very often , i will when sony decides to bring all their home own game home spaces with in game integration , i’ll be there for sure ) hope you guys dont take too long to have a Infamous home space , anyways i’ll be pre ordering the game at best buy , good luck tomorrow i hope you guys take care of liverpool lol

  • Sweet! the sooner the better :)

  • What about qore subscribers what is in it for us? Do we get early demo or something decent!

  • if it is released tues 26th may in US , is it going to be releases fri 29th may in the EU , if not how long a delay can we expect ?

  • YES YES YES, cannot wait for this game to come out, great news, definetly great news, I loved the whole article but that horrible team you have on your avatar…BOO chelsea…glory glory ManUnited!

  • I am going to have to preoreder from Gamespot and Amazon just to get everything available. I’ll just return my Gamestop copy and preorder Uncharted 2 :) .

  • i love PLAYSTATION!!! aww man, perfect timing. u guys are perfect, seriously, thx everyone, i just agreed to vacuum the housse bcause of this, i am in a great mood!!

  • by the way, is there another way to get that exclusive power from gamestop? cause i dont know where to pre-order from…

  • can i quickly ask if SCEE are going to make a comment about a release for us were will it be exactly?

  • Do you guys not understand the point of doing these pre-order bonuses and crap? So the stores advertise their game more, people go in, see an awesome electrical dude and decide ok, ill pre-order it here.

It’ll probably be on the EU Store again on May 7th so go for it.

  • now heres a question. whats the point of preording for a demo? isn’t a demo suppose to demonstrate what the game is about? in other words, allows the user to decide whether to buy or not buy a game? that is full of fail. just like the KZ2 demo, this demo would not be available to the people who preorders it, thus not knowing what this game is about, and would have to depend on reviews to know weather a game is good or not. seriously its that dumb. i hope this doesnt happen again.

  • @ Roxas598

    Check the page before!

  • 1. An earlier than anticipated release is never a good sign.

    2. Pre-order goodies for this game aren’t very appealing especially when we can just download the demo a week before release anyway.

    3. Playing the demo will tell if this will actually live up to the hype, but as I’m most certain, critics almost everywhere will still score the game on the low end simply because it doesn’t fit in with their so called “trendy/hip” scenario.

  • wow epic fail on exclusive in game power with preorder. What’s next, we get 3 different endings for games based on where we preorder? Sony please release the items as free dlc a month after launch, many people don’t plan on getting it through Gamestop and that prerelease bonus is just ridiculous.

  • This is really good news. I may have to preorder this. I really like how you moved up the date. The previous release date was getting crowded.

  • at 124 go check ign.com and see what they have to say about the game , i havent seen a bad preview of infamous just yet if you have a link to a bad infamous preview please be kind of letting me know

  • I rather have the Superpower than the Home stuff, personally.

Is there going to be any Home unlocks in the game like Street 4 and Biohazard 5, for instance?

    I’m waiting on Prototype myself, so I probably won’t pre-order anyway…

  • This is awesome news. I have had inFAMOUS preordered and paid in full for a while now and I seriously can’t wait to play this game, it is going to rule!

    inFAMOUS FTW!!!!

  • tank you sucker punch, another infamous game sold :D

  • can we get the gigawatt blades for eb games?

  • This is exactly what I commented on in one of the last posts… please no time exclusive demo and that’s exactly what they did. When will these companies ever learn?

  • I hope there is marketing for this game. There hasnt been any good marketing since when the 40GB PS3 launched w/ those wild tv spots. Hopefully, this and Killzone 2 will get more tv spots on the air.

  • Sounds great to me, hoping for great reviews!

  • Gah..I hate pre-order bonuses. I despise pre-ordering things. Oh well, the blades will more than likely be offered for $5 later on..

Hopefully there is in-game music to, but I’m glad to hear its being pushed forward regardless.

  • Its not everyday you see a game get released early. Sucker Punch delivers!

  • First of all, for any of you who are crying into their pillows about having to pay for a demo, you should really take the time to read the blog post.

It is CLEARLY stated that all PSN users will be able to download the inFamous demo before the game releases. If you wish to get an early chance at playing the demo, then you can do so by pre-ordering at select stores.

Is that done then? Are you all understanding that? Great.

Moving on, the early release of inFamous is great news. I’ve had my eye on this one for a long time now, so I couldn’t be happier with this news.

I will most certainly be purchasing this game on day one.

I can’t wait to try out the game. Thanks guys!

  • Oh I can’t wait!

  • aqizilbash:

I’m very excited for this game, and I can’t wait to play it. My only concern is with the special Gigawatt Blades power you get when pre-ordering from Gamestop. Is this only meant to make the game easier for some people? Or is it necessary to attain a certain trophy? For example, if there was a trophy for obtaining all of Cole’s special powers, would that be unattainable if you didn’t pre-order from Gamestop?

  • Haha… I love it.

I’ve always felt that there was no way a release date announcement would make everyone happy… and today it was just proven.

Anytime a company announces a delay, you get a bunch of people complaining, and then some other people saying “It’s ok, it will make the game better.”

Now a company actually announces that they gave themselves more time than they need and will release a week early, and you still get people complaining that this move up will mean the game’s broken.

The people in charge of setting these dates aren’t stupid. They’ve seen the way companies get torn up here by people who don’t like delays. It had gotten to the point where a delay on a PS3 game was almost standard… so now companies start making sure that their release dates include a cushion…. and you still complain accusing them of rushing the product.

    Some people are never happy…

  • Nice plan with the demo 7 days before launch, looking forward to playing it and making my decision! Thanks!

  • SWEETNESS!

  • LoL! I love the headline. Man, this news spread like wildfire… Saw it on Joystiq, PSXExtreme, and PSU.com before here. And that’s gotta be a first :p

  • I know this has nothing to do with Infamous but is there any chance Sucker Punch will make a new Sly game after Infamous. I think the engine could look pretty cool with a Sly Cooper game running on it.

Also is there any chance of a PSP version of Sly too or even a PSP version of Infamous. I know if Infamous came out on the PSP the game would not be a big but it could still be pretty cool to see and play.

  • this is awesome cant wait to play this game!

  • Hooray! good release date, i wont complain one bit.

  • It probably makes sense from a marketing standpoint as SCEA did the same thing with Killzone 2 IIRC, and apparently that worked out pretty well since they’re doing it again.

Sucks for us consumers though, but I guess that doesn’t matter.

For me it might actually, genuinely not matter as I live in Europe-land, which hopefully means there will be none of this nonsense. Including that stupid pre-order bonus power malarkey.

Why is it not enough to buy the damn game to get the whole damn game any longer? No you have to pre-order it here or you’ll miss out on this sweet [insert word] you idiot, now jump through the hoop, jump. Make [insert select retailer] more money so they’ll continue pushing our games in the future.

And then it’s all dressed up to make it look you’re actually getting something out of it. It’s insulting.

  • Good news about the release date and all.

Bad news about linking exclusive content to pre-orders that you won’t be able to get any other way. I have a big problem with that strategy.

It actually has the opposite effect on me. I specifically won’t pre-order it now because I feel that is an inappropriate and unfair method of enticing customers to do so. And it pushes me toward not buying the game at all.

To be sure, I don’t have any problem with providing incentives to pre-order such as getting content sooner or getting the first DLC for free. That’s all good stuff, really. But when you say if you don’t pre-order, you’ll never get the content… that’s crossing the line.

And if every publisher starts pulling that, I’m going to start buying a lot fewer games on princible.

  • hope these cool bonuses come to the UK as well :P

  • boooo a chelsea fan. i guess you’ll not be happy when we beat you in the fa cup next week :P

day one buy btw. i’ve been interested by this game from the second you first showed it (along with fat princess).
