PS3 System Software Update (v2.41)

1,366 0

Hi, everyone. As many of you know, we released PS3 firmware update v2.40 last week, but had to take it offline temporarily because, for a limited number of users, the XMB wouldn’t display after the update was installed. We’ve been able to fix the problem, and I’m happy to report that firmware update v2.41 will be released shortly.

We want to extend our apologies to the PlayStation community for any inconvenience. Now we’ll be looking forward to seeing everyone online and racking up those trophies!

  • great news guys, I had no problems with 2.40, but I hope this fixes it for those who did…

  • SSHD 4.0 update is now up..

  • @297…any new games will have to have the developers build the feature in.

I heard that since it’s there now…the devs are willing to use it…not all of them, but at least most seem willing.

So I’ll be in game music for other titles is soon to come.

  • No genious here….just stating what I read other places…

Sony did tell us to look at other blogs for news.

  • Eric, just thought we’d let you know that we wait on pins and needles for your updates. Sometimes it hurts and we whine.

  • thanks!

any word when SSHD 4.0 patch will go back up?

  • @300: wont happen because MS has a patent on those things…

sony is sitting in deep … nothing works, most important features chat and crossgame invites are not even announced yet.

2.40 ist totally useless unless your planning to write some words to your friends what you can do with any mobile phone or since years with any pc crap chatprogramm.

cell’s 7spe’s are not able to do what the 3 powerpc cores on the 360 can 3years ago?

    weak and totally half-assed.

  • any one have a list of the games that currently support in game music?

  • I don’t understand why anyone would be using the master power switch on the back of their PS3. Since it cuts the power off abruptly (you may as well just unplug it), there’s no proper shutting down of what’s running on the system, and you could be corrupting the internal database as well.

If your system is already in standby mode (red light, no activity), then feel free to unplug or power off with the rear switch of course.

  • @303…someone on page 6 said it’s back up.

Start SSHD and it should download it for you.

By the way…there’s another Team pack update within Superstardust as well..not sure if that’s back up or not yet.

It’s very nice…gives you Split screen ability and customization of your ship.

  • @305….on the 3 games I mentioned on page 6 have in game music so far that I know of.

Heard devs are going to build it in now that it’s available.

  • Didn’t have a problem but thanks for the speedy update.

  • nice thanxzs guys

  • that was never up. its sitting there for months and weeks without any download possiblity. just another weak story from sony.

who on earth is paying these uncapable PS3 loosers anyway!?

  • Well at the moment i can safely say that im not seeing any of the issues with 2.41 so far as what i was getting with 2.40, no game lag (yet to try all games) Not dropping connection, controllers working again. Havent tried blutooth headset yet, but will soon.

But the major problems i was having seem to be fixed (touch wood) lol

  • Updated to 2.41 this morning and everything seems OK. Played some burnout, did a little in-game XMB.

Clever that they added shut down system from the XMB now that the PS button no longer offers QUIT/shut off controller/Turn off system while in game.

The clock position needs to be redone, and we should have an option NOT to display it at all in the date/time settings.

Thanks SONY for fixing the larger issues so quickly.

  • Now no Trophies for Devil May Cry 4… come on Sony… get these 3rd party devs on board (if you can even muster getting your first party games in line). Oh, wait, you’re new president of World Wide Studios dissed 3rd parties and apparently you don’t care about them. Apparently you don’t care about my money either. Weak Sony, very weak.

People aren’t going to buy your version of a game over the competition’s version if you can’t deliver what they do.

  • Great!! Thanks!

  • When are they going to re-release the SuperStardust HD that has trophy support?

  • @317 look at 306 tells you what to do to get them.

  • Great. Didn’t had any problems with FW2.40. But it’s great to see that FW2.41 fixes a lot of issues other people have been having. Great job SONY.

  • @313 Sora57

If you press and hold the PS button, the old menu will show up.

    @317
Just start up the game and follow the instructions that show up after it starts.

  • Awesome,

    updated this morning!

Now all we need is for sony to make it mandatory that all developers use cross game invites, in game music. Finally make the gamer card look like the one they showed back at GDC with Phil Harrison. the really pretty mock up. Lastly we need to be able to send cross game voice messages and leave voice messages for friends! We have this and for me, PSN will be complete!

  • Ok so i downloaded 2.40 and had no problems what so ever…..and then 2day i downloaded 2.41 and it seemed fine but as soon as i sent a message to my friend my ps3 automatically turned off and now i cant turn it on again….someone tell me is this temporary or did my ps3 die completely

  • The Stardust Patch is not up, yet. The guy on the 6th page lied.

  • no it diddnt die lol……well i hope it diddnt cuz i did the same thing today….i hope mine doesnt do that…………but um….call sony…ask them about it …..the number should be somewhere on this site ??

  • no it diddnt die ……well i hope it diddnt cuz i did the same thing today….i hope mine doesnt do that…………but um….call sony…ask them about it …..the number should be somewhere on this site ??

  • that was a reply to GODZ PIZZA MAN :)

  • hahhhahahahahaha

  • ya i know…..damn im jus pissed cause if they didnt realease 2.41 i would be playing MGO rite now :(

  • @322…wow….not good for you !

I’ve sent msgs with 2.41 and all is ok.

Maybe contact Sony if your PS3 doesn’t turn on again.

  • I missed the 2.40 update. And after seeing what it did to a number of users (some who had the launch 60gb like me) I was a little concerned for my system.

I’m glad Sony took it down because I’d rather wait this long for the new update instead of sending out my PS3 for a repair.

    Downloading 2.41 right now.
You did the right thing Sony by taking it down, Thank you!

  • Wow Sony. Fixing a problem even if only some people have it.

Now THAT’s what I call commitment; you guys are awesome.

Hopefully E3 will have something huge in store for us! (like a new psp, GOW3 trailer, or maybe that Minority Report style interface with the PS Eye that Kuturagi talked about so much?)

  • Sorry to sound horrible(i’m not) ;) But if anyone had a problem, wouldn’t they phone SONY up straight away??? Why come on here and say – MY PS3 IS DEAD Blah Blah… I just think it’s all LIES by xBox 360 owners, the ones who hate everything PlayStation :-/
NONE of my updates have gone wrong??? Oh well, i hope SONY know that. ;)

  • Hi, If your reading this Jeff is there any chance you happened to read the message I sent you about 2.41 a few days ago?

  • @332….ha ha…you may be right.

Few days ago…another person was joking that with the 2.40 update…he heard on the news that Sony was hacked.

He was saying….maybe Microsoft did the hack (as a joke).

I just about fell on the floor laughing.

I think we’re competition now for sure.

  • Now if we could only get some updates out there so more than SSDHD has trophies…

  • @335….sounds like we may have more this month and forward.

    thesixthaxis is saying so anyways.

  • Ok i dont blame you guys cause if i heard my story@322, i would assume it was an xbot just trying to cause sh*t….but this is for real and im contacting Sony once i have some grieving time

  • lol i told mad people a fix would be out this week and noone believed me this is gunna be funny when i get on PSN today

  • I had 2.4, updated to 2.41 this morning and when it installed, it told me my HD had files that were corrupt. It restored files in 20 secs and everything was fine.

    Anybody else have this happen?

  • That happens whenever a virus is detected on the system… so maybe it was 2.4… its happened to me back when 2.0 was released

  • @339…first time I’ve heard that, but am I ever glad that it’s there.

Nice that it’s doing a check volume for errors and fixing them as well !

  • Thank you for the update, Eric!

  • Yeah, but what I was wondering if anhyone else with 2.4 had this happen upon upgrading to 2.41.

  • good job sony, the wait for the fix wasnt that bad, now make all devs/publisher support the thropies with all their future games, it has to be mandatory

  • @284 SylarEatsBrains @ 314 TristanMike

Devil May Cry 4 huh ? maybe if you wait a little longer :) …

  • Is anyone else on here are having issues downloading Super Star Dust HD update? Once I launch the game it ask me to update but when I hit yes it reboot my system. HMMMMM, i’m a little afraid to update so it doesn’t brick my system. SSHD update seems really wonky.
