As has been reported on many gaming blogs and websites, we have temporarily taken Firmware v2.40 offline. We’ve received a limited number of calls from consumers experiencing an issue with installing the system software update on their PS3. While our consumer services department has seen a low volume of calls on this topic, we are committed to providing the PS3 community with XMB access features delivered in the v2.40 update. We are working diligently to isolate the problem for those few consumers and to identify a solution before we put the firmware back up.
We’ll provide further information as necessary here on the Blog.
hijaker77, I am not 100% sure but I believe that there may be a conflict with the fact that you have an EU console and the US version of the game. I read the past update page and right in there it says DO NOT use the update if you have a console sold outside of North America. It just sounds like you may have accidently caused a conflict.
Now, to everyone else that is whining in here about Sony and this update. Sony has identified that there appears to be a problem, even though it is affecting a small number of customers. They pulled the update to find and fix whatever the problem is. Now, why do you feel that they should update you constantly as to the progress of fixing any said problem? Isn’t it enough that they admitted that there is a problem and that they are trying to rectify it?
Why are so many people complaining about in-game playing external custom music? If you want your own music so bad, put on your headphones and listen to your MP3 player. Very few people understands what it takes for a company like Sony to try to give us all what we want with concern to the PS3. Everyone who is complaining needs to just back off and let Sony do their thing to get everything fixed. It isn’t like they can just wave a magic wand and it is all fixed. We are talking hundreds, possibly thousands, of lines of programing code that they have to go through.
Just so you all know, I own an earlier 60gb PS3 and was able to update without any problems. My PS3 is working fine.

The more costumers nag on Sony, the more Sony will respect the costumers. Sony has always had a good service to the costumer, and i hope they continue support us in that maner, or else!! :-)

I don’t really think that Sony expected a problem like this to arise. So, why would they have to think about a holiday weekend coming up?
I seriously doubt that this problem is going to hurt Sony that much. Look at all the problems that they had with the PS2 and people still bought the PS3.

If I do ever have a problem with my PS3, I will be calling Sony and not complaining on the internet. What everyone who is having a problem needs to do, is call Sony support and keep calling them until you get satisfaction. Sony will react faster to the phone calls than to these complaints here.

Unless you managed to download the 4.00 SSHD update, you can’t earn trophies.
The SSHD 4.00 update was pulled shortly after 2.4 was pulled.

It’s just not worth it my friend. We’ve waited this long might as well just ride it out till we hear something.
This whole trophy business isn`t it a little childish ? Great update this 2.4. In game XMB, trophies, you can see the clock … Wow … You can see your messages without quitting the game… You know something ? You must all see Zeitgeist. At one point it says about the whole entertainment business that they are trying to keep you busy so you don`t really think about the important stuff of the world. And they are doing a very good job.The way we keep embracing technology at some point human beings are going to be born with a usb socket somewhere in the body to be connected with PS10 and other machines. There is a real world with real people. Let`s all have real relationships with other humans, let`s talk in person and remember that even if videogames do exercise the mind, we have a body that is essential to exercise too. Everything we do , must be within normal limits. We must not be fanatics about anything (only worth being fanatic about is sex orientation – a man must be a man).
Don`t worry about the update. Sooner or later they will fix it.

I have to laugh at people whining about this. You’ve waited a long time for I’m sure you can wait 2 or 3 days. A minor snag compared to what happened to early 360 so don’t complain about having to wait an extra week. And in case it sounded like i liked the 360 you’ve taken the mood of my sentence wrong. Personally I myself cant wait for the update but let them enjoy their holiday.

nobody’s console truly bricked, all the issues that have been seen can be fixed by reformatting the HDD, if you really do have a PS3 and 2.40 gave you the freeze, reformat your HDD and you can play. and 2.40 will work just fine for you.
And to the person who was asking the question about why Pixel Junk Monsters doesn’t support it yet, on the video they were demoing on PJM Eden, once that is released it will support trophies and ingame custom soundtracks.

As a Sony consumer I have to say that I am thoroughly disappointed with this entire situation. I had a system that was roughly a year and a half old that had to be shipped to Sony for repair. Since my system was older than a year old I had to pay $171.00 for repair. Upon receiving a brand new PS3, I installed all of the cables and components necessary. After downloading the latest update, my “new” system is expierencing the same problems that occurred with the old system. System freezing, image problems, and color issues. Here’s my question, who takes the responsibility for returning my $171.00 to me? I refuse to accept the “that’s how it is” answer. Two perfectly good systems ruined by a faulty Sony update and $171.00 less in my pocket. I hope that everyone else who falls into the “low volume of calls” bracket can understand my frustration and lack of sympathy for a company that has been taking my money with no problems for over 10 years.

everyone should turn off their ps3’s and pc’s and go outside for a change. get some fresh air and sunlight. i bet alot of you are pasty pale and could use a little color. not to mention viatimin k. i got the update tuesday, by thursday i had 2 trophies in ssdhd to collect still. one i will never get, co-op trophy. (would have to buy an unavailable add-on to get the chance to earn it)
it’s summer, nice weather, fireworks, cook outs, family gatherings, friends parties. i’m sure there has got to be something else you can do over the remainder of the weekend to take your moinds off the lack of any updated news or the rerelease of 2.40. you’re not missing that much. no ingame music, no ingame voice chat and only one game to earn thophies with currently that some of you most likely don’t even own yet. (or ever will most likely)
for all the whining and moaning and complaining you’re doing, you’ll be extra disappointed in the update. not to mention it’s fruitless, you really think whatever slob reads these posts is gonna look back at the fun he/she had this weekend and regret having fun while a few hundred (possibly more) crying babies are wasting their weekend away posting. nope, i bet they’ll get a pretty good laugh at your expense, just like i am now. Still no issues with the new firmware. The only thing out of the ordinary was my rockband usb transmitter was showing as an unknow device after the update. To me this was kinda cool because it was actually telling me there was some connection issue. In the past the rockband controller wouldn’t respond but there was no message…so I’d just be sitting there wondering. Anyways, I unplugged the transmitter and plugged it back in…FIXED. So you see, there really wasn’t an issue. It makes me wonder how many people are having issues that really –aren’t– issues. For those that do actually have a problem, hang in there Sony has never disappointed in the past.
I don’t want to get into Microsoft bashing etc but how long did they leave a faulty design (xbox 360) in production…a long time. At least Sony jumped on this and took some action.
Again…thx Sony for the awesome update. I love being able to jump out of a game to message someone.

When playing music it would be great if there was a playall button. I have music sorted in folders (by artist) but sometimes I’d like to just play everything…if it’s possible this would be a great feature

try sorting them out of folders altogether. since the system does the actual sorting it shouldn’t be a prob to get them back into the folders they were in before making the change. then you can listen to them all and even in a random order. this is what i do when i’m in the mood for a more robust and random playlist. or, create a playlist with all the songs so you won’t have to bother unorganizing them.

Yeah, I unfortunately didn’t get a chance to DL it–crazy thing was I had actually just checked to see if the update was available last week (when I updated my PSP to 4.01) and it still wasn’t there. So ironically, I believe I must of missed it by a few days. I think poster 1604 might have said in a previous post that he did get, but quote me on it, LOL. I’m sure it’s worth the wait, like you said, so I’m not sweatin’ it. Besides, I got a JPN system so I’m definitely not gonna take no crazy chances to even go out one Web searching for 2.4 (though I’m sure it’s floating around) and really do something stupid like DLing the wrong compatiblity of 2.4 and really bricking my system.
Hell, I would dread even thinking of the many barriers (language and country-wise) I have to go through to get Sony (Japan) customer support to help me out, LOL….nah, I think I’m better off waiting.

It would be nice if people could homebrew their own FW and they could send it to Sony so they could check it out and make work go much faster…. But that is just an idea..
