721 0

Today we are announcing that Qore: Presented by the PLAYSTATION Network, a highly interactive, monthly lifestyle gaming program covering the world inside PLAYSTATION is on its way to PS3. Qore has been developed to give PS3 users early access to game related content at a level of quality, interactivity and depth. Everything is filmed in HD. Qore will feature exclusive news, developer interviews, in-depth game previews and behind-the-scenes looks at PlayStation games and special access to game demos, special beta invitations, game add-ons and other downloadable game-related content.

Qore

Our premier episode will be available on Thursday, June 5. The premier episode includes in-depth exclusive and never-before released content on upcoming PlayStation titles such as SOCOM: U.S. Navy SEALs Confrontation, Star Wars: The Force Unleashed, Secret Agent Clank, Soul Calibur 4 and Afro Samurai, as well as the latest Blu-ray Disc trailers, an exclusive SOCOM: Confrontation theme with an invitation to the SOCOM: Confrontation beta, art galleries and other surprises. We also know that many of you are big fans of Veronica Belmont, the widely-known host of numerous online video programs and podcasts and an avid gamer, so weā€™ve chosen her to be your host.

To get Qore, simply log onto PSN and go to the PLAYSTATION Store, as you would purchase any other form of downloadable content. Once the single Episode or annual subscription is purchased, that monthā€™s episode will be downloaded under the ā€œGameā€ heading on the Cross Media Bar (XMB). Users who purchase the ā€œQore Annual Subscriptionā€ will notice only that monthā€™s episode is available to download. The following month, the new episode will automatically appear in your download list. The introductory price for Qore is $2.99 for a single episode and $24.99 for an annual subscription of 13 episodes, using your PLAYSTATION Network wallet.

As Peter Dille mentioned in a previous PLAYSTATION Network post, the broader service and community initiatives launching on the PLAYSTATION Network this year such as Qore, PlayStation Home and the Video Download Service are all evidence of our dedication to delivering an all-encompassing entertainment experience for PS fans. Qore is the first in a series of planned original programming specifically created for the PLAYSTATION Network community and we hope you enjoy it.

  • thats happening to a lot of people

  • Yes PSN is still getting content, and Qore is getting exclusive content that PSN will not have.

All of that exclusive content would be in the PSN, if there was no Qore. Weā€™ll be payin extra for the stuff that we shouldā€™ve got free.

    Exclusive content:

ā€œspecial access to game demos, special beta invitations, game add-ons and other downloadable game-related content.ā€

ā€œas well as the latest Blu-ray Disc trailers, an exclusive SOCOM: Confrontation themeā€

So what could of been in PSN that will be in Qore instead include Demos, Add-ons, Themes, Blu-ray trailers, that will never hit PSN

    FTW AGAINST QORE!!!

  • Alright Juuken, heres the thing, What sony is doing with Qore is there taking what would be put into PSN and making us pay for it. They say they have exclusive content, well we would have that for free if they didn’t make Qore. Theyre nickle and diming us to the extreme, with a subscriptions and people are buying it. We shouldnt have to pay for a feature that should and was free.

  • ^stfu dude.

  • “This is sounding like a PSN Gold account. Demos should be free, and I bet 3rd party developers wouldn’t be happy if their demos were only made available to a limited section of PS3 users. If any demos are exclusive to Qore then they should be made available to everyone a week or two later. Still lame though. The PS3 is on the rise but Sony really shouldn’t do anything to risk alientating users or fragment the PSN into different classes of accounts” – BraveSirRobin42

If you want to know whatā€™s wrong with the PS3 this post says it all.

This should be free. Why? Because right now there is little evidence of Sony being part of a gaming community.

Where is the integration in the XMB and the PSN between players, developers and Sony? You canā€™t even read this blog properly in the PS3 browser because Flash hasnā€™t been updated since it was released.

Sony should be talking directly to the gamers through the PSN. It should be nurturing a community with direct communication. If Major Nelson can be bothered to add a small free podcast to Live for free then why canā€™t we have something at the PSN for free? Free for all users, to get all users involved. There is little sense of Sony caring about community relations outside of this blog.

This was a perfect opportunity for Sony to start directly talking to gamers and making them feel that the PSN was something special. It should have been a free show every week running for about 15 minutes. Letting PS3 users inside the PS3 world, putting faces on the talent involved and allowing gamers to relate to industry gamers. Making a community. Everyone on the 360 knows the name of Major Nelson. The same should be true for the Playstation but it isnā€™t. It just makes Sony seem intentionally aloof and out of touch from the audience.

The information board is useless. Itā€™s too slow and by the time the tiny amount of news hits it you already know. Itā€™s an impersonal system thatā€™s just an RSS reader. Qore will be the same. It will be exclusive for an hour or two then the news will be just as redundant as sites like Kotaku and Joystiq report on it and Qore hits YouTube.

So yes, it will be just like a magazine. Outdated as soon as itā€™s released

  • “If you purchase Qore, you will have access to exclusive content that would not be available otherwise – it does not impact the availability of the great content found on PSN, nor does it change our free play model.” – amurphy

There you go nothing’s being taken away from the PSN, content is just being added for those willing to pay for it.

  • @Sonofugly
Although I do appreciate your concern, spamming doesn’t help. Also if you took the time to read you may have seen in post#42 from amurphy…..

“If you purchase Qore, you will have access to exclusive content that would not be available otherwise – it does not impact the availability of the great content found on PSN, nor does it change our free play model.”

PSN isn’t changing, you just get extra stuff if you get Qore, big deal. About $3 if your interested, its less than a PSN game if you bought one.
Nevertehless, we will all see how it works out on Thursday anyways.

  • all thats saying is there is going to be great content still on the PSN like there was, there should be that extra on the PSN anyway though. How happy have you been with the PSNs last 2 updates?

of course theyre going to say that

  • nothing can make me excited for this, you want people to pay for advertising? that is the stupidest thing ever. The hole point is to promote PS3 ang PSP games and you want us to pay. And you are going to give beta keys away to the people stupid enough to pay for this. Betas are ment to be free!
well this isnt one of the best ideas sony has ever had.
if it is free then its fine but untill then it sucks

  • “I won’t be buying this. I’ve had the other systme like almost two years now and I won’t pay to do things online.” – RobDog71

  • Well, I’ll be buying the one on Thursday and probably will subscribe next week.

    You win this time Sony….:P

  • DEATH TO QORE!

  • I’m sick of trying to convince idiots to wait and see if Qore actually negatively effects PSN, instead of jumping to idiot conclusions. Even though Jeff has already stated otherwise.

The same idiots who think Sony should listen to their asinine ramblings.

  • I hope you all sell your PS3’s then hopefully you can go away and drag down the I.Q. of some other blog.

  • I love how we had no bad updated before this was announced.

Oh the good times when we got 3 demos a week and large expansions of all our favorite games every other week.

    How I will miss thee.

  • @508

I’m wasn’t happy about the last 2 updates, and here’s why, because the content sucks in which nobody wanted. Now I agree I’m on the fence about Qore insofar as this could be a way to expunge money, however from what I can see Sony is taking a high road (At least this is what it looks like) and will honor both Qore and the PS Store. Example MGS4 Standard Edition and Limited Edition, what is the difference? No much except that the game features the MGS4 Soundtrack, Figurine, and Behind the Scenes look at the making of MGS4 (Notice that last feature), and its priced higher than the standard edition, yet no one complains about this, yet its the same exact method, I can argue that the Making of MGS4, Soundtrack and Figurine should be included in the cost of MGS4. An Even better example would be Ninja Gaiden Sigma, and the CE of NGS, nothing was different except that the game featured a Behind the scenes with Team Ninja, which again could be argued that, this wasn’t a CE to begin with and should have been in the Standard Edition.

Now look at Qore, its made of the very same elements, it allows users to get special content that wouldn’t normally be available on the PS Store such as in depth behind the scenes action of a certain game, demos that are tied into a promotion, much like the Bad Company Demo, etc. I think before people get riled up on the subject they need to first get some insight on it by at least trying, or waiting for reviews on the subject (Maybe not so much the latter as its dependent on 1 persons given opinion) as its only 3 bucks (For Single episode) and will get you the so called exclusive content, and guaranteed access to the Socom Confrontation Beta. Definitely worthy of just 3 bucks. I do understand both sides, however it just seems no one wants to at least test it before jumping down Sony’s throat, sure Sony’s PS Store Updates haven’t been that great, but hell its mostly due to their process of less Arcade Remakes and more “Original Content” and in my posts in last week’s store update, I clearly stated why this is a bad logic and where it goes wrong (Mainly because their isn’t much you can do with Original Content, let alone there isn’t enough of it, and the given content could be either hit or miss). In any case I plan to give it a whirl before I criticize/praise it.

  • @513

However have you looked at their point? Its actually a very good one, Sony’s updates have been lacking seriously, and now Qore seems to try to give some life to PSN and the Store, it makes you wonder, how much content was held back to make this Qore become great for us audience. For all we know the content in this Qore package is stuff originally planned for the PS Store, however was held back due to the Qore distribution. I do agree with you when you state we need to check it out before making comment, however I have to say that I am on the fence on this, as it could be good and then it could be bad. It depends on the type of content, and if it was viable for the PS Store (Meaning if its stuff we usually see on the Store included, thus making Qore a ripoff, or if the content is behind the scene, full scale interviews that seemingly have never graced the PS Store, thus making it something of usage). All I know is that I will be trying it, and it won’t hurt as I will have guaranteed access to the Socom Confrontation Beta. IMO that alone justifies 3 bucks, let alone the other stuff among it

  • Oh god people either don’t know how to read or they don’t understand the meaning of …

    OPTIONAL!!!!

I just don’t understand why kids don’t know how read. Stop being illiterate and read!

I’ll bet maybe less than 10 percent of the people who commented on this blog actually read into some of the details of the service provided!

Qore is an optional to the PSN experience. PSN IS STILL FREE! QORE IS AN OPTION!

You are only paying if you want to read monthly news and download “exclusive” demos!

Of course “exclusive” members will get demos earlier than the the freeloaders who download many “FREE” demos that are already on the network, but as the service clearly suggests, this is entirely an OPTION!

  • I thought this was what PS Home was for? So when Home is released, we wont be given the exclusive content and interviews?

  • @518

I guess there have been no lacking updates before this was announced. Content was never a complaint before these last two weeks.

Everything is Qore’s fault. We have seen nothing, yet, they are already siphoning content from the PSNetwork.

That make a lot of sense.

  • @519

Im still sure content will come with Home, I mean look at the past few event where Home allowed an almost real-time look of happenings at Gamersday, and Ubidays.

This is more like a digital magazine, if you were a member of the Playstation underground and received those monthly Demo Disc, then you will have a good idea of the offering of Qore.

  • Charge for beta information? I am wow… I better wait for the release versions then…
English only? Europe has more then english :-)
My comment: better focus on the core then creating chargeable collateral… I wonĀ“t buy it.

  • @520

Uhhh, Sorry to be rude, but where in the hell are you getting your information from? There have been tons of complaints prior to the last 2 weeks as far as updates are concerned.

    Examples

May 15th (Week before the 1st week that complains started pouring in)

Hell If you want I could go back to later dates if you’d like. Besides even if your point was correct, what does it prove? Uhh the PS Store is just that a Store in which you are supposed to deliver content such as Demos and Games, not just videos, especially when it stuff that I can go on Game Trailers to see, especially if I have no plans to keep it on my HDD. If the Store updates is decent, then there is no need to post because it serves its purpose, which is to inform what is up on the store, and thus making me want to get up and head to the PS3 and download, if I’m posting on the Blog as opposed to downloading the given content, there is something wrong with that picture no?

To even further the idea, Video content that is usually available on the Store is stuff no one wants to see anyway. Let Sony try a Kojima/Ted Price/David Jaffe, etc Interview, or behind the scenes content on games that are big hits like Killzone, R2, Socom Confrontation, etc. it would be enough to give some people at least a smidge of satisfaction on an otherwise failful update, however in the past to updates, if you didn’t own Rock Band, then you pretty much was SOL, 2 weeks in a row. IMHO that is very much worth of complaint, regardless if I complaint beforehand or not.

In any case I have to ask, what’s your point?

  • @522

You are not paying for the Beta, you’re paying for the content that you buy, the beta is more or less a gimmick to get you to buy the otherwise content you might say “Meh” to. Besides no one had a problem when you have to pre-order MGS4 ranging from 5-10 dollars in some areas to get the MGO Beta, however people are complaining about 3 dollars in which you get special content that you pretty much pay for anytime you buy a Collector Edition of a game, that’s silly.

  • Anyone who buys into this garbage is adding fuel to the Sony fire. We’ve gotten jack on these weekly store updates and now Sony is backing up a 3rd party so they can take even more away from us on Thursdays? Please… anyone of you who condones this needs to be kicked in the ball sack over and over.

I’m not paying 3 bucks or 30 bucks a year just so I can watch some moronic hd show with some idiot tell me about what games I should buy and the cherry on top being me having to pay 3 bucks to 30 bucks just so I can buy add on content and or download free demos.

Doesn’t make a lot of sense to me, folks. You tell me why the hell this “3rd party” is getting our store content and making us pay 3 bucks to download it every Thursday?

Run that thru your thick skulls, idiots!

  • Here’s the thing.

Qore’s content could mean one of two things.

    1. The demo, dlc wouldn’t have been made if it weren’t for a portion of the revenue the developer from the subscription. This would be great. Except Sony and the production company have an incentive to do this unless they were going to profit from this, so it is less likely that the revenue is going to the developer (case 1) and more likely that it is case 2.

    2. The demo, theme, etc was already going to be done by the developer as a promotional thing, the costs written off as marketing costs, and would have been released anyway. But Sony and Qore decided they would sit on it and charge for it.

  • Whoops.

“1. The demo or dlc wouldn’t have been made unless the developer receives some portion of the subscription revenue.”

Still horribly awkward, but hopefully more understandable.

  • @Gamesblow

    You’re a dumbass.

You never even said whether or not you were the original gamesblow. I don’t think you are. If you are you use to be like the biggest Sony fanboy there was. Why come to a blog thats just for playstation and hate. Go talk good things about the 360 somewhere else. Seriously, what the hell is your problem?

  • I already have Calling all Cars. Will I get some sort of credit?

  • This looks great! But I am a bit confused. It says that episodes willl be auto downloaded each month. I dont get how you are able to poick and choose what you watch. It seemed as though in the video at the bottom there was a way to toggle around with options by clicking a button. I am a bit confused. Will there be a new QORE icon added to the XMB? THanks, I will be purchasing the annual subscription most likely. :)

  • Great news!

I’m in for sure, it’s like a magazine, but online, great stuff! It’s nothing like live, psn remains totally free, you don’t need qore to play online, yeah?

and only 2$ for a month, and tons of stuff,

    THANK YOU SCEA

  • sounds to me that this is just an online magazine, if you want it, get it, if not dont, you will still get all demos and stuff, it isnt like sony is pulling a “live” to play games online and stuff :)

  • Forbidden_Darkness

Qore is one of the best things to happen to PSN! ill gladly pay the 24.99 to get exclusive demos, betas and such. im guessing this will be how you get into the LBP and R2 Betas! im really pumped for thursday! civilization demo, Qore, battlefield demo and ect!

  • eh i think its kind of dumb…. much rather it be free…so im not going to bother with this….im sure ill get w/e info they give there and read it online for free..
well GL with this stupid idea…sounds good on paper but will see how it does once its real

  • SonofUgly, wth are you talking about?
From what I’ve seen, the service is optional. It’s like an online magazine, where you have access to what’s going on with certain games. I see nothing wrong with this and I’m sure it’s very separate from PSN.

I think most of you are misunderstanding this entire service.

  • And seriously, give this a chance and see if it works before jumping to conclusions.

  • ::cough::Subscription-based-model::cough::

  • Wow….this topic has really brought out emotions on people.

I just say give it a try, buy one issue of Qore and see what its like, give it a chance. Most of you spent anywhere from $300 ~ $700 for a PS3 and you cant afford $3? Forget the “principle” of the idea and just spend the $3 to check it out.

Some of you need to get a life really, spend money on the things that bring joy to you without complaining. All the cynicism on the internet is starting to be depressing. Why not use all that anger on something else more worthwhile, like your congressmen and political leaders.

In the mean time, Im going to buy a subscription of Qore and enjoy what it gives me. I work for a living and I know how good it feels to get paid for your work and Im not about to take that away from others.

  • @537
[DELETED] that! I spent well over $1000 for my PS3! I dont know where you get off claiming $300?! The 40GB is $400+

For that $1000 I feel I’ve been ripped off thoroughly and Sony’s promises have not been fulfilled. My $3 stays with me. As I see it, Sony owes me a lot of service for the money I’ve paid. Whether I can afford $3 is irrelevant.

  • @537
WHAT?! I spent well over $1000 for my PS3! Plus games!

  • I think this is an awful idea.

    1) Sony advertised free PSN, sure the PSN will still be there and free but if all the newest demos and content arn’t on it the it’ll just be a dead service. Won’t even be worth the nothing we pay for it.

2)Once again Sony is [DELETED] over everyone but the americans. Demos only avaiable on Quore, never available to those in Europe or Japan. Can’t really see any of the demos exclusive to Qore in US being on the europe PSN since then you americans could get them without paying for qore and we can’t have that.

3)I don’t care about nor want some crappy video magazine, I can get that from IGN, 1up and many other sites for free thanks. Atleast they might not be so biased too.

If it was atleast a service open to all PS3 owners that would make it a little better. All this is doing is making things better for american users with money to burn and worse for everyone else. Disgrace

p.s. and yes I realise that the sony servers need running costs but they should have thought about this before launch. Don’t advertise something for free as a selling point then take it away later. It’s not the price I object too but the principle. How long till we have to pay just to play the games online that we have paid for on the console we’ve paid for?

  • The videos of qore will be available on youtube or torrents
The demos will be available a week later
The wallpapers will also find their way on the net
Betas will more than likely have multiple entry points, like SOCOM right now.

In-game content? most likely some gear like caps and shirts for HOME or any other game…

There’s nothing left to justify the pricetag.

  • can we put the qore episodes on the psp as well?
    if yes.. ill subscribe

  • I take great comfort knowing that a large number of today’s gamers are whiny little babies who want everything handed to them for free.

  • The 2 tier PSN begins instead of providing great content like loads of PSN games an d PSone classics like MGS etc they have opted for the lazy route to making money from PSN with a pay service. QOre would be ok if it wasnt for the exclusion of non payers to access content. That is a sly decision. if you buy qore you are part of the problem.

  • @538

I was obviously talking about the base PS3, not the games or anything else you purchased along with it.

I get off claiming $300 cause some people may have bought a used or refurb, I was trying to cover the whole gamut.

You make it seem like Sony almost has to put your kids through college just because you bought a PS3. Like I said stop worrying about the little things in life, pay more attention to what the politicians are doing that will affect your life more than a game console. Channeling all that anger at a company whose really doing nothing REALLY wrong is not good.

You keep your precious $3, I choose to give mine away this Thursday. Ill help support the “EVIL EMPIRE” thats trying to ruin all our lives.

  • In fact since everyone is being such a whiney baby over this, Im going to blindly get a subscription to Qore weather I like it or not, just out of spite.

  • Okay Okay, let me get this totally straight. The service of the Playstation Network is Free, Right? So this is a separate service that you can opt into to pay? the price is very reasonable. Alot better as compared to anything you have to buy on Live, which they all pay for anyway. Even with their loss of network over the holidays. So for those of us who no longer wish to use a credit card for the PS Store, how are we supposed to get in on this? I am an avid Socom player and Fan. I want to get in on the Beta this summer. How do I buy access if I can’t fund my store. How I ask?

Well the obvious solution besides Putting PSN Cards out to all major and minor retailers in Canada and the United States of America is to be able to fund your “wallet” with your PayPal account.

I have had one since it began and trust it Immensely.Paypal is Universal like the PS Network. Paypal doesn’t require that you have a credit card. Just a bank account. Believe me I can wait the eight to 10 days for the money to go through. What I can’t wait for is the next Socom. September 16 2008 is still Three Months and 12 days away.
Psn Cards or Paypal or BOTH!

So in closing, I think you should all consider this as an option. Heck you folks just added YouTube support to your PS3 SDK for games (record gameplay videos and directly post them to the YT), then why not add this as an option for funding your wallet.

Please Grace, Jeff, anyone. Do this for us. Please.

@ Volomon, I totally agree with you. The “lay person” usually doesn’t get it. Don’t be a drone. Stop teh madness

  • HEY SONY GUESS WHAT!!!!!!!!!!! kiss my *** :D as soon as you give a damn ill give a buck :D cant believe i waited and waited and finally went out and bought a paper weight becuase it doesnt matter how good the system is if the people that are controlling the content are morons :D lol i know you gotta make money but dont you think it would be wise to IDK get ahead of the competition before you start F***ing up? i know that what i say doesnt matter and that people will still kiss your A** well after you lose the console war shame too cuz i love this system.you see i got a Sony Playstation 3 for several reasons .1 BEST System 2 The Play free always free motto 3 until now i thought i was investing in a console with a good standing reputation. You know that thing you earned back when the Playstation 2 was the S*** OHHH WAIT IT STILL IS ROFL.For all you other playstation fans out there i just wanna say im not trolling im just a lil pi**ed about the fact that Sony Is turning Micr$oft on us …i can understand paying for the beta’s cuz its a privilege and a worth while one to play Beta’s like MGS4 and so on,the Add on content thats cool ill pay for that ..but i will NEVER PAY FOR A DEMO OR A F***ing Trailer i dont care how much sony spit shined it.eventually people will get tired of the run around and theyll stop buying your stuff just like WELL HELL IDK …. ATARI ROFL…just to verify to myself that this rant is worth it ill pay for the first editon of this and im telling you right now it best be damned good or im gonna pick up my preodered MGS4 and tell Sony to for the first and last time with all sincerity to kiss my ***
