ALERT! “Metal Gear Mondays” Begin NOW on the PlayStation.Blog with Metal Gear Online Beta Details!

301 0

Welcome to the kick-off of “Metal Gear Mondays” on PlayStation.Blog! Here we’ll be bringing weekly articles about Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots and Metal Gear Online packed with news and content including surprise announcements, guest authors, and much more!

This week we’ll go into a lot of detail on Metal Gear Online and the upcoming MGO Beta. You must attain a free pre-order bonus gift “Metal Gear Saga Vol. 2” DVD with MGO Beta Unique Product Voucher Code (UPVC) insert to participate in the MGO Beta as explained in our post last week.

MGO
If you have attained a MGO Beta UPVC, then Thursday, April 17th, this week, the download of the MGO Beta client will be available to you through the PlayStation Store on your PS3 (but please bear in mind, gameplay does not start until April 21st , and then will run until May 5th) – again, please do not try to redeem your UPVC before April 17th, you will just get an error message. You need to carefully follow the instructions provided on the MGO Beta UPVC insert in order to get at the download of the MGO Beta client through the PlayStation Store on your PS3. It is also important to note that your UPVC for the MGO Beta is good for only one PS3/PSN/PlayStation Store account, so you should absolutely NOT share your UPVC with anyone (unless you plan to forfeit your MGO Beta to whoever you give the UPVC to). There will not be any additional issue/reissue, replacement, etc of these codes – so again, we stress, please DO NOT share your UPVC for the MGO Beta with anyone!

Once you’ve got the MGO Beta client downloaded and installed, it’s time to load it up. Upon launching and going past the main menu, you’ll see that you need to sign up for a Konami ID. What is a Konami ID you ask? It is Konami’s service that has actually been around for a while in Japan, which basically allows for a unified account and access across various Konami products and services. Konami ID will be used for the first time in MGO for the US, and using the Konami ID allows for some of the really unique features we plan to offer the community with MGO. Once you hit the Konami ID sign up menu option, you should notice something subtle, but really cool: MGO launches the PS3 web browser from in-game and takes you to the Konami ID registration page. You can also simply visit http://id.konami.net from your favorite Web browser right now and sign up as well, to get a head start!

konamiid-site

After the simple registration process, you will attain your Konami ID as well as GAME ID for MGO (the GAME ID is your MGO specific ID, basically). From there, it’s on to character creation …

Similar to some popular MMOGs, MGO features a deep character creation component. Each user of the Beta will get one “character slot” to create a character with. This includes a wide variety of personalization options, as well as customizable and upgradeable skills. Players can select up to 4 skills to specialize in, to match their play style and increase their effectiveness. Close Quarter Combat (CQC), knife fighting, quickness, alertness, heavy weaponry mastery, demolition, and sniper mastery are just some of the skills you can specialize in.

Once you have set up your character, it’s on to the action. Use the lobbies to find the match you’re looking for, from what is available in the Beta. Not all content and features are going to be available in the Beta.

Here are the some of the basics of MGO:

  • Metal Gear Online (MGO), the multiplayer experience that combines the rich Metal Gear Solid universe with online combat, is available exclusively on the PLAYSTATION 3 system!
  • MGO carries over the backdrop and control system of Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots (MGS4) to original online maps and game modes, with future downloadable content (planned to be released after the launch of MGS4) adding additional maps, characters, and other features.
  • Among the new components this time around are battles featuring up to 16 players, and the Sons of the Patriots (SOP) system, allowing for enhanced squad communication. Close cooperation is essential to survival on the battlefield!

A little more information on the new SOP System and the MGO theme:

img02_01

A few years after the events of Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty, the MGS4 story begins. In this short period of time, the world has changed drastically. PMCs [Private Military Companies] have taken the place of state armies as the world’s primary war engines – PMCs are private companies that specialize in warfare. The Big Shell Incident of MGS2 has prompted the U.S. Government to require all PMC soldiers be injected with nanomachines. These nanomachines regulate data, performance, and even emotions. Every soldier and weapon is controlled, regulated, and kept in check. This system, known as Sons of the Patriots (SOP), even makes it physically impossible for soldiers to turn their guns on their clients. In essence, it places the battlefield under corporate management. As a result, the fires of war continue to spread, and the PMCs inexorably increase their power and influence in world affairs.

The SOP System allows you to visually share information among your squad by linking your internal nanomachines. Information like your teammates’ positions, status, and even who they’re engaging with will all be provided to you in real-time. It also works through walls, letting you identify individuals by their digital silhouette. Gain the upper hand by scanning your enemy team’s link and share their information with your comrades. In MGO, intercommunication and adaptive teamwork decide the outcome!

With this in mind, it’s on to the action! The MGO Beta will contain …

Two maps:

Blood Bath

This image should explain it all, but you basically launch your character across the maps. I can’t tell you the sheer joy this brings to both the launched and those watching, you simply have to experience it for yourselves. Suffice to say, it allows for some very unusual strategies! Take a close look at the contextual action button at the bottom of the screen, w00t!

This info is subject to change, as things may be added or removed from the MGO Beta. There will also be some content surprises as the MGO Beta progresses, so please keep an eye out here on the PS Blog and at Konami.com, and keep playing!

  • Anyone care to notice that is says you have to PURCHASE tickets to play online???

Look what it said after you register,
“By agreeing to the “Terms and Conditions for Use of KONAMI ID Online Payment”, you will be able to purchase online game monthly tickets, etc. with your credit card”

I’m not paying a monthly fee…KONAMI you can KISS MY BUTT!

  • hi i have a quick question and i hope can get a answer. i preordered a mgs4 LE in gamestop. but i got no code. i made this online.. any 1 know if this store give code for mgo or something?

    thanks

  • Ok, a friend noticed this when you sign up for the KONAMI ID.

“By agreeing to the “Terms and Conditions for Use of KONAMI ID Online Payment”, YOU WILL BE ABLE TO PURCHASE ONLINE GAME MONTHLY TICKETS, ETC. WITH YOUR CREDIT CARD”

I REALLY HOPE THIS ISN’T A MONTHLY PAID SERVICE!!!!

  • i have an important question to ask.i pre-ordered the limted edition mgs4 from gamestop.it was an online preorder.the haven’t given me any mgs saga disc 2.0.
they are saying that they haven’t confirmed anything from konami so far about the beta disk for online pre-orders.plzzz tell me what to do.i am confused now.

  • xberserker , that means that with the Konami ID you can buy tickets to buy MGO stuff, like maps and expansion packs.
I dont think that MGO will require a monthly pay.
It would be nice if a Konami rep. can explain us this stuff.

  • got my key today giving off a kind friend cant wait to play the f*** out of it.. “”loving ando””

  • OMFG, the signup for the konami site is the worst EVER! Who the hell came up with the idea to have 2 separate ID’s, 2 sets of passwords, and not to mention it seems like it only likes certain passwords! Geez, I sure hope MGS4 isn’t gonna be as much of a pain in the ass as the signups :(

  • I have a problem with having to have TWO KONAMI IDs. the “Konami ID” and the “Game ID”. why couldn’t the Konami ID be the same as the Game ID? and why all the requirements? now my MGO name is “-eclipsed4utoo_.” because I am forced to use the stupid characters.

  • i can’t register a Konami Id!!
whataver i just try on day 21 :D

  • at those that pre-ordered online…..you probably won’t get the disc. you should have pre-ordered in the store to make sure they had the discs. you are SOL for not walking into the store.

  • Is anyone at Konami or Sony listening? Hello? This Konami ID/Game ID thing is incredibly stupid. Do none of you get this? Do none of you realize what a mess this is? Do none of you realize that all it does is give people more reasons to laugh at PSN and go play games on Xbox Live?

Fix this! We should be using our PSN ID to play Playstation 3 games online. NOTHING ELSE.

  • Thanks for the update Brandon (Konami). MGO is going to be sik. I do have to agree with the other users here that the whole konami id + password + gamer id + password is a bit much. I don’t understand why we can’t use our PSN id’s/passwords for it like every other game does. If this is just for the beta then fine but if this is how the full MGO game will be then you guys might want to rethink your system.

  • WARNING!!

Do not enter you desired online name as the first account name they ask for as you’ll need to enter a second name for your game ID that may not match the first user name you submitted earlier in the application.

    DEAR KONAMI/SONY

This is a seriously bad idea and poorly implemented. Do you mean to tell me that nobody playing online will be allowed to have their name start with a capital letter? Are we really encouraging the devolution of grammar with MGO?? Why do we need 3 user names to play any game on the PSN?? And why does it just end with error after I jump through all your hoops??

I don’t usually complain about these sorts of things.. I’m a “go-with-the-flow” kind of guy.. but this is seriously a mistake.
Also, Canada got like 3 preorder DVDs to share among all the MGS4 preorders.. would be nice if we were valid entries to claim a beta code online as a bit of a consolation.

  • What’s wrong with the konami id site i can’t get in???

And please tell us this konami id thing is only for the beta…………………

  • Please tell me that you will sign on using your PSN id for MGO proper. This is an absolute disaster. I DO NOT want to have to sign up for a billionth thing and get _yet another_ online ID. Can I ask what is wrong with the PSN ID? Everyone who plays online has one. What about friends lists? If someone has 2 different names then we won’t be able to find our friends in-game. Or else we will have a seperate friends list. This is absolutely terrible.

  • I don’t see why anyone is complaining about this Konami ID thing. I just registered, no problem at all. can’t wait for the beta! More than anything I want to play MGS4 though!!!!!!!

  • I know, I register last night. It took a few minutes but nothing to get all worked up over..

I’m counting the days to the BETA!!!

  • man, its still not loading for me :(

  • I am concerned about the release date of the MGS4 PS3 bundles.

The bundles should be releasing simultaneously alongside the retail game on June 12th, but I am hearing rumors to the contrary that they may not release until weeks later – possibly even a month later!

I do not have a PS3 and I would not have one, if it weren’t for MGS4; so it would be a great help [not to mention convienient and financially smart] if I could pick up both the game and the system for a great price on the same day of the game’s release.

Can we please get some more information about this?

    Thanks.

  • Well I won’t be playing or downloading. Boycotting this stupid Konami ID idea.

I mean, you let Konami have their own thing, then EA want one, and so do Infinity Ward, and then Ubisoft want one too.

Playstation network is then fragmented with loads of different logons, like the old Playstation2 Central Station.

Come on Sony, sort Konami out for christs sake.. Don’t fall on your sword over MGS4…

  • Please dont ever make a comment about a “Surprise” When the “Surprise” is something the real MGS fans already know.

  • I don’t get it. Why do we have to have a Konami ID and Game ID? I hope it’s only for the beta and the full version of the game will just use our regular PSN info.

  • @ Gregero I think we all hope that, especially if Kojima really wants to grab Online Gaming as it was stated. It will be mission critical to make PSN ID’s the standard for MGO play. Konami ID’s should only be a security method for this beta, nothing more, I surely hope that Konami listens and relieve this.

  • amen to that, PSPMAN07

  • I am willing to do this to play test the beta, but I also hope Konami doesn’t require this to play the actual game. It will be a huge turnoff if required.

  • Question.

Regardless of the ID issue, will there be a friends list implemented into the game that we can invite to private lobbies to?

If not, do you know how the process of playing with friends will work?

    Thanks

  • This would be just like Sony.
    Their knight in shining armor.
The one game that will be perfect.
They have to find some way to screw it up and make the only sure thing they have going a major screwup and public spectacle.

Sure in this case Konami is the perp but Sony just stand there like “dur!?”

  • Just throwing my hat in the ring here. After a few minutes of frustration, I know have my 2 separate ID’s on Konami’s ID system (which, for some reason, can’t be the same name) and 2 passwords (took me forever to realize the second password could only be numbers)—-I hit my Staple’s Easy Button afterwards as a touch of irony!

Anyways, I don’t mean to be rude—but this to me seems very antiquated and worthless—why isn’t my PSN id enough? Why, if you want me to have a sign in with you, do I need 2 sign ins and 2 passwords that cannot be the same thing? Honestly, stuff like this is why I don’t play Smash Brothers online with the Wii—more fun to beat yourself with a Wii remote—so, unless Metal Gear Online is absolutely amazing and 100000000000 miles past everything else, I will probably do my beta duties then revert back to Warhawk and Resistance—please fix this system the PSN id should be enough—-I can see why Japan hasn’t been getting into online gaming if this is the hassles they deal with—-when things are simple and streamlined for the user it saves a lot of heartache!

  • soo if anyone who pre-ordered the game online is not getting the mgs saga 2.0 disk so should he cancel it out and go for an in-store preorder?

  • Hello? Sony? Konami? Anybody home?

Please tell us that this is just for the beta and that the actual release of Metal Gear Online will use the standard PSN IDs. Please tell us that this idiocy will end. Please?

  • i think they ain’t even seeing these posts to us.

  • i got my code by going into GAMESTOP and preordering MGS4 (doesn’t matter if it’s the LE or standard.) The clerk should let you know if they have MGS Saga DVD Vol. 2 in stock. He should give it to you with your receipt. On the inside cover of the DVD there should be card in there with the beta code on in. Above it are instructions to download the beta. I just wanted the DVD. I gave away my beta code and now I will cancel my preorder. I hope to get the LE Gunmetal PS3/MGS4 bundle.

  • Is their a way we can avoid all this?! Seriously… this method is way to complex.

  • Wow, I’m sorry but I am thoroughly disappointed! Could you address this (using two IDs thing) please? I don’t understand why anyone in their right mind, whoever it may be, would implement another ID that PlayStation 3 users have to worry about and keep track of.

The PSN ID is perfect the way it is. “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it”. I love using my PSN ID across all PS3 titles and I’d like to keep it that way. . . but if this is just for the beta I’m chill. . . but if it’s going to remain, I’m not enthused.

Moreover, this will further complicate users ability to take advantage of the in game XMB when it is released, surely you can see this coming? So whoever is in charge of taking care of this, Sony, Konami, whoever it may be, please listen to your customers. I’m not the only one who disagrees with keeping track of an additional ID.

  • I am sure this has been said already but if a lot of people say this maybe someone will listen. This whole Game ID for the beta is horribly ridiculous. Why make us create a Konami ID then a GAME ID. Then force us to make our IDs 8-32 characters long, with a hyphen, with and underscore, with a period, with undercase letters and then finally with a number. Good luck trying to make something that is readable and not stupid. Also, what’s the point of having a PSN ID if we need this crap? This isn’t going to deter me from playing but throw me a bone here guys. This ridiculousness is exactly why there needs to be XMB with a centralized PSN ID to link with every game.

  • I entered my birth date (11/11/1991) and it says, “Children under 14 may not register.” (If you’re bad at math, my birth date measures out to me being 16.) I have to bump my birth date up to 1988 for it to work. Help?

  • I’m not gonna lie, I’m a bit angry at Konami, Kojima Productions, Playstation, or whoever supervised the use of Konami IDs. I’m totally cool w/ unique offers, but I don’t see what you can’t do using PSN. Some web browser unique thing? Well pull a Resistance and sync it up with our PSNs. I’ve made my Konami/Game ID and it was simple, but I hope I’ll never want to use it. Don’ screw up MGOs online with this alternate account bullcrap. I was worried about MGS4’s story for awhile cause it’s so convoluted and had to be done carefully, I never thought someone would come up with a terrible idea such as this.

I can deal with this until the beta is over, but come June 12, I wan it fixed. I won’t be buying downloadable content til then.

  • to dewmandew7

It happpen to me too… im 18, my birthday is the 27/3/1990 and it also says that im younger than 14… what the hell is uop with that! like i cant even fight like all the others cus i cant even get that far!!! jajaja i just dont understand how they can make the best game ever but they cant do math!!

  • HOLY [DELETED].

Look Konami and Sony you better straighten out this cluster[DELETED] of a system out immediately. I tried for 35 minutes to sign up for my “KONAMI ID” and I was greeted with messages like “THIS EMAIL IS ALREADY REGISTERED WITH A KONAMI ID” which it isnt. then i ask them to retrieve the login apparently associated with it and it then tells me THAT EMAIL IS NOT REGISTERED. WHAT IS IT KONAMI? IS IT OR ISNT IT? ANY WHY DO WE NEED A “GAME ID” WITH A SECOND PASSWORD? WHAT? Do your japanese fans put up with this bullcrap?

I went out and got my beta code from gamestop, and im looking forward to mgs4 but CHRIST ALMIGHTY you better ditch this convoluted, nonsensical crap system you have in place or you’ll seriously be cutting off a TON on people from your online game.

    god im angry right now.

  • Konami ID?

Sorry, but we already have IDs. They’re called PSN IDs.

  • the konami id site ain’t working?

can any of you give me a working link of konami id site? other than the one which id mentioned above?

  • ATTENTION Brandon Laurino // Konami Online and everyone who has a beta key. I read that there are some beta keys that are only 9 digits long. those are invalid keys. My Beta code is only 9 digits long! They are all supposed to be 12 digits long. If this is true, Konami has really let me down!

  • hay guys how can i get the cood !!!????
    PLEASE any body answer

  • Yea, too bad us unlucky people who got 9 digit codes get nothing. So you can pretty much shove your MGO beta up your ass. You guys @ Konami are pretty much worthless if you can’t even run a beta properly. Die.

  • mgo is gnaa be siikkkkkkk
