Patapost Friday: Pata-Tips #2

62 0

So by now many have you hopefully have passed the nasty desert, took down a few bosses, and can catch the FEVER like you were one of those cats from Outbreak.

Now let’s talk about amp-ing up your Patapon army. As you have probably have found out, success in this game takes rhythm and focus, but that will only get you so far. You are going to have to build a bad-a$$ army, arm them to the teeth, and know how to put them to work.

Dream lineup!
“Where do they get those wonderful toys?”
Helmets, Shields and Weapons “Oh My!” There are a ton to collect in this game, if you keep on fighting the Zigotons, they will drop goodies left and right.

Zigoton Leaders

Zigoton Leaders
You can also acquire more gear from boss levels. You can replay boss levels infinitely, but as the level goes up so does the difficulty so man up your troops as you go along. Just as a sample here are some of the helmets you can score:

  • wood helm = is standard issue
  • iron helm = boosts stamina
  • steel helm = boosts both stamina and defense
  • wind helm = quickens attacks and resists flames
  • strength helm = greatly boosts attacks
  • ancient helm = greatly improves basic skills
  • Giant Turtle helm = greatly improves defense
  • Divine helm = resists flames and has destabilizing capabilities

“Simply Diviiine”
If you want the best of the best weaponry, nothing can beat “Divine Weapons.” While playing boss levels like the Mythical Stone Goliath Gaeen, you will see Mythril randomly drop.

Lv2. Retreat
Don’t run away or you’ll miss all the heavenly glory!

Take the Mythril to the blacksmith (which doesn’t unlock until later in the game), and if the user performs the blacksmith mini-game without error, the user will score a divine weapon. You can get one divine weapon per squad: Divine Spear, Bow, Horn, etc….

Blacksmith Mini Game
“Special Forces”
Not all Patapons are created equal. Rare-apons are Patas you customize yourself by offering things to Mater, the Tree of Life. To create Rare-apons mix any one of the top rare drops of the three categories (meat, rock, or wood). Combine 2 of the 3 rare drops together at the tree of life, to create a rare-apon.

Rarepon Sheet

Each of these Super-pons have special abilities:

  • Pyokola (Orange) = slightly better all around stats then your standard Yaripon
  • Mefeel ( Light Purple) = has the highest armor versus projectile weapons
  • Gekolos ( lime green) = has the fastest attack
  • Barsala ( Dark Green) = is the best rounded of all
  • Mogyoon ( Dark Purple) = deals the most damage of all
  • Tikulee ( Blue) = has the highest critical chance of damage

So which item combos yield which Rarepons? For this, we turn to Super Pata-fan AxelCloud’s YouTube page. He (or she!) spent a good amount of time making home videos of his (or her!) uber-rare Pata-force.

Thanks AxelCloud, may you make it safely to Earthend!

  • I am still near the beginning of the game after I get the X drum, now I’m trying to bring my Patapons to Fever mode at the beginning of the level when it tells me to, then I try to do the X combo and as soon as I hit X it tells me I failed and I lose the fever mode. Not sure if I’m just not hitting the right rhythm for the X’s or not, but I can’t seem to get that at all.

  • @51 andycapps
you can’t do that in the beginning of the game, if you want to stay in fever you need to hit your rythm perfectly (the March or Attack sequence), there’s, I think, 3 levels of getting your rythm, 1.perfect 2.good 3.barely there(which sounds like a really tight drum hit) and perfect has a big bass hit to it. Also if you watch the outline of the screen you hit the button when the line is the thickest… has a much better explanation then this on one of the faqs.

  • @xplosneer
No unfortunatly you can’t (as far as I know). It’s probably to balance things out a bit.
And if you are having trouble with a certian level, than just go hunt and beat bosses. Than make a new PataPon line up. You can disband Patapons you don’t need by pressing SELECT when viewing patapons in the Obelisk menu! Hope it helps :)

  • I really want to see the Patapon Game on PS3!!!!

  • any ps3 psn download?…..expansion?….this game selling like hot cakes everywhere

  • this game looks awesome. i would love for it to be made into a psn title =]

  • I keep hearing the Japanese version has exclusive weapons that didn’t make it to the US version. Is that true?!? Something about a sword and a bow.

  • So, I think enough time has passed. It’s time for some sort of Patapon 2 announcement, as well as BearBricks coming stateside. They are outrageously priced on eBay 50-60 dollars.

    • I\’d be stoked to give a Patapon 2 announcement one of these days. (crossing my fingers) Till then keep on spreading the word about Patapon 1. As for Be@rbricks, if you are not a member of the PlayStation Underground yet, then register soon cause we are going to have a cool Patapon contest coming soon and you can score some sweet Pata-Schwag…including the elusive Be@rbrick!

  • I love this game, but I hate that it keeps distracting me from other things I have to play. I’ve had a few PC previews sitting on my desk for days now, because every time I get ready to play a game I hear the call of Patapon.

Curse you, you lovable war-spreading rhythmic eyeballs!

  • I am glad as a Patapon fan to have found this blog and these wonderful tips. Patapon was a system seller for me. I had held off buying any portable game system for a few years due to my eyesight. However, Patapon got me so excited that I tried a store system demo and realized the PSP screen and graphics could work for me. I later purchased a PSP and Patapon.

-The above “rhythm and focus” YouTube link is no longer valid (This video is no longer available due to a copyright claim by Viacom International Inc.).
-My only true complaint is that it is so hard to put Patapon down in terms of enjoyment as well as interruption. Building up ten successful beats to gain Fever and then getting distracted by real life is a downer. If only it took fewer beats (like five)… I am glad to read here that Fever can be more quickly achieved if extremely precise with the button presses.
-I have yet to get past the section using the catapult against the enemy forces, but I’m not giving up. The tips I’ve read here are sure to help.
-Thanks for the image with the various Patapon. Finding useful game information online has been difficult. My grateful thanks to the Patapon team!

  • This is the only game that sold me after playing the free demo! great game lots of fun, i’m glad i bought it.

  • I got Patapon a few days ago and I love it. It looks so simple on the surface but its actually quite deep and strategic. I love the way the Patapon chant after they’ve been in Fever for a while…

I’ve just got some Yaripon. Has anyone got any specific strategies for which Patepon to use for which enemies?
