GDC Tuesday: PlayStation Blogger Lounge Day 1 Highlights

Hey all, hope you’re enjoying the GDC festivities so far. Day 1 of the Sony Blogger Lounge has been a success, with press from around the world getting their hands on games like flOw PSP, Secret Agent Clank, echochrome, and Gran Turismo 5 Prologue. Big shout out to those who have stopped by on Day 1, like bloggers from Level Up, IGN, Gamervision, 1up, MTV Multiplayer, EuroGamer, Gametrailers, Ars Technica, Destructoid (minus the Robot, regrettably), PC World, GameDaily, TotalPlayStation.com, Gamervision, and many more.

Slightly more thanks to those who documented what they saw, like Joystiq and IGN. ;-)

Things will pick up noticeably tomorrow, as we get the developers in here for one on one interviews, so expect a ton of coverage from the outlets listed above (and certainly even more than that). We’ll also have the cameras on, asking the devs those questions you want answered.

Jeff!

I saw an article on a game website that said sony is going to make some sort of announcement on home this week. Is there any buzz about such a thing over at GDC?

Interesting shirts, to say the least. But man though, this tight lipped attitude over Home and In Game XMB is KILLING us guys. I understand all good things take time, so I’ll bow my head and wait patiently. Let the guys at Incog know that Warhawk has become something of a lifestyle for my friends at Fitchburg State if you get the chance. Also, much appreciation to Suckerpunch.

Yup, this week has been all rumors. But you can’t blame people doing them Jeff, people are expecting a lot from Sony specially after last GDC. I just hope we can get into Home soon, that will bring a lot of life to people PS3s.

do u bloggers have any conection with sony if u do, can u tell them their consumers are getting sick and tired of the hushed attitude, and lack of info on long awaited products lie Home and in-game XMB.

So people beg and plead for IN-GAME XMB day after day after day and all you people can do it create stupid t-shirts to mock them? Not to sound like a prude or anything, but that’s really pathetic. Is that how you treat your loyal fans, by mocking them? Horrible sense of humor, horrible… And not even a BIT of solid information on the topic. How can you guys just sit here like little BIT CHES telling these guys their “doing great jobs”, or “keep up the good work”?

I have to agree with JayJacobK.

I was down at the LAN/Arcade center tonight, and many of us didn’t find it very funny, especially since we are getting up to our necks in annoyance with the lack of in-game messaging.

It comes off more as a teasing, in your face type of attitude. Since Jeff replied saying “not this WEEK”, I certainly hope it’s next.

Great showing so far… I love the t-shirts like everyone else.

I’m not to worried about Home or the In-Game XMB. I’m more curious about the games coming out in the future for the PS3 and PSP. I especially love the rare types of games, like PixelJunk Monsters. Those are the best types in my opinion, they are small but extremely fun and you don’t have to worry about a epic story line to follow. Its just a fun game to pick up and play for a few minutes. I just finished the Patapon demo and I’m eagerly awaiting its arrival. Beautiful game. I hope to see more like it.

I’m really looking forward to more information about the “TeamICO” PS3 game, both of there previous games where beautiful and I can’t wait to see whats coming out next. I doubt any of you really have any information on that. But I can’t wait!

Anywho, I just wanted to let you know that these rare types of games are what makes me love my PS3/PSP even more. I thank you guys for being so open to new game ideas and so forth. I found one game I’d love to see on the PS3 if at all possible and I’d like you to take a look at it, I find it beautiful and they have some great tech behind it too. about the shirt thing, y’all should seriously sell ps clothing and merchandise through the psn store and jus have them shipped to the user while charging the credit card on the account, that is one thing i’m sure ps customers would like and sony gets money and downloadsjust imagine w the merchandising. I don’t usually post on the blogs because all i see is wining and crying about home and in game xmb…..home will come out in time so stop complaining and for the in game xmb winers, stop winin, what real gamer would want to pause game just to message, dont get me wrong i mean it would be useful but stop complainin, it’ll be out in due time

argh, sorry to throw this off into something off topic, but there is something wrong with my account. I registered back in june to this blog with my yahoo email but I can’t seem to retrieve my password. Says invalid name or email. Both are correct though. I even still have the email that I registered with.

This brings me to my other issue, i’ve had a gravatar for just as long but it never shows here either. Everything should be right as well.

Anyone have any tips?

Prediction:

In-Game XMB and home open-beta this week. Sony has to now that they have made the XMB t-shirts. If not people are going to riot.

If the In game XMB isn’t ready, thats one thing. At least mention it, or show off what you have. Having “In Shirt XMB” .. shirts, are funny, but also kidna annoying when people have waited a long time for the feature.

Any comments on this XMB ‘accomplishments’ picture from ‘sonyguy’? If it’s just another hoax, I’d like to debunk it quickly so we don’t get our hopes up prematurely.

On another note Jeff, will we be hearing any information about the next generation of PS3? As in the rumor about the 120GB or 160GB PS3 which will supposibly be replacing the discontinued PS3 80GB for example.

I’m going to make a guess about the In-Shirt XMB( Genius).
I read recently about how In game XMB is going to have to be put into every new game, and patched for the old ones. I bet Sony is going to give developers the heads up on including In-game XMB in their software.

Ok, so no full Home release, or in-game XMB. What about the mass cluster of Open Beta news about being released this week? It’s a shame that such a flagship product as Home, that we as the customer aren’t getting any information aside from leaked info from Beta users.

But just so you don’t think I’m a negative person here, everything else I’ve seen looks promising on Sony’s end! MGS4 4TW!

Seriously, now. In-game XMB.

I don’t care if it’s this week or not, just get it before GTA IV or Microsoft will sell a lot more copies (and systems) than you. They’ve already got the exclusive DLC which is huge, but I’d be ok to pass on that bonus if I could get custom soundtracks and messaging with my more dedicated PSN friends on my reliable PS3 hardware.

Yeh those pics from sonyguy are COMPLETELY FAKE: WHY? You ask?

Well:
Reason 1: Accomplishments…is not the term. Trophy Unlocked would probably be more suitable. \

2.Also, the guy was able to take 6 or 7 shots before the Accomplishment icon dissapeared…what the hell? Is my accomplishment gonna be up there for my whole session?

3. The faint clouds in the background, and if you look closely, the warhawk is at an angle like this: /
Now if im not mistaken, Warhawk is an online game, yeah? Can you pause an online game? No…then how the hell is the Warhawk still slanted in all 6 images?! IS he somehow controlling the game while he is browsing through his friends there…oh yeah but wait, he doesnt have any friends…and oh yeah…his own username doesnt show up! Why? Because it’s a phony. DEBUNKED FTW!

Jeff thank you for being a loyal employee, I’m going to ask 2 very specific questions.

1. With the latest FCC filings, is the PSP getting a revision to it’s wifi and/or other communications, the basic I am asking. Is the PSP getting Bluetooth or the New Blu-Fi (I coined that)?

2. If you would be so kind to grab me one of those in game xmb shirts, I would give you a “Newfoundland Liberation Army” Shirt (google it) in it’s place. I have one that’s never been worn that I would Gladly part with for one of those t-shirts… huhn want to hook a lifetime Sony fan up? either that or some of the Ces swag….

For those who are complaining about the lack of information about Home or In-Game XMB coming from GDC, they should be given a break. GDC is not about informing the consumers… it’s about informing the developers. Furthermore, if they knew exactly when either of these features were coming… but then told everyone, there would be hell to pay if something unexpected happened and it was further delayed. By remaining silent on the issue, they are basically saying “we don’t know yet… we’re still working on it.”

Now something WORTH complaining about is the fact that I have owned every PlayStation console, have owned countless games and accessories, but still haven’t been invited to the GAP.

But enough about me… I can’t wait until Home and/or in-game XMB is available. I also can’t wait until certain functionality of this blog works in FireFox. ;)

Oh yeah and Jeff btw thank you for clearing up all that In-Game XMB rumours for this week. it’s coming but not this week…those pics were a fake…But man I need to get my hands on one of those shirts…sigh I never get to go out to GDC or E3 or any of these wicked awesome gaming events…well simply because I’m spending all my hard earned money on the behemoth that is PS3…but such a nice behemoth it is :P. Anyways I just dont want peoples to be let down saying..omg it’s sony’s fault. Well…number 1 Sony doesnt have to do anything, but I know they want to make the experience better with everything, but number 2 is that Sony never made any announcements that a certain feature would be coming this week.
