PLAYSTATION 3 Brand Campaign Kicks Off

Hey everyone, I’m Kim Nguyen, Marketing Manager for PLAYSTATION 3. This is my first post and I’m happy to report that the PS3 brand campaign officially kicks off this week with our online campaign. The first of many banners will appear today and run through December. In a nutshell, the theme of this year’s campaign uses computer animation to model key PS3 iconography in a black onyx world. Phew, yeah, that’s a mouthful. Better yet, why don’t you see it for yourself. This link takes you to the “Blu-ray” banner and is just the beginning with lots more to come. Stay tuned…

  • @ Kim – Finally! this is what we all have been waiting for. This will be glorious. Great work guys getting your product seen and heard in the eye of the public. That’s what I’m talking about.


  • cool to here, its been past due that this format war is ended.

    update the store before 12 on the west coast, release 2.0, and for crying out loud allow users to change thier password on the blog.

  • Hopefully this campaign will include television as well? 360 is killing the PS3 in this regard. Plus, every multi-platform game ad is tagged with the 360 logo, making it appear like the game is only on the 360.

  • Thats a very nice and informative ad,GOOD JOB!The Playstation 3’s weakest link is advertisement in my opinion.

  • thats some very slick stuff, man. damn good work. advertisement is an area that Playstation3 lacks in. This looks amazing though. You oughta throw that kinda stuff onto the TV.

  • Perfect timing. Parents cant buy toys for their kids so might as well they look into getting a blu-ray player like the PS3 which Disney backs. Also the system is much more so as they get older they are able to utilize its other asome features.

    The PS3 is really an all in one entertainment box. I am beta testing Home and it will obliterate even second life no bias just true facts.

  • When you roll over uncharted or Heavenly Sword it looks awesome. I sure hope there are a lot of TV ads for Uncharted and Ratchet and Clank so they sell well.

  • Nice banner! I really like how the trailers are embedded into the ad itself. Also, I hope we see TV ads, as that will reach to the mass audience, and not just the hardcore gamers. There should be TV ads about the features(wifi, linux, music/video rip, browser, free online, etc.) and the variety of games, instead of just purely one game.

  • Nice! More ads everywhere. Good stuff! Also, just wondering, where the hell is GT mobile for the PSP. I bought a PSP to play GT and still no GT. Tell Yamauchi to hurry up! He takes way too long with delivering good games on time. Somebody get them new producers!

  • HOT. I love the interactivity and the snippets of video. This sure beats those pastel colored internet banners that first came out at the end of last year!

  • With all the bad press the PS3 has received, I hope this is an aggressive ad camapaign. I haven’t heard or seen anything with the PlayStation logo on it for a while. Commercials for games, like Skate and Madden have the Xbox logo at the end. I like what I’ve seen so far so keep it going.

  • Hey kim if you read this, im glad that sony has finally started advertising the Playstation 3 more, and also if your reading this a little hint, It would be great to get with myspace and advertise with them seeing as how they have over 200million people on their site and thats alot of eyes if you know what I mean.

  • Great banner. well done Kim, these are the adds that will help define the ps3. Are television versions going to be popping up soon?

  • spend more time gettings games on the shelf advertising trailers will not get the job done…were are the games…ps3 is in last place….all ps3 owners are pissed.i use 2 be the only one …just check out todays post everyone is pissed

  • Now that is just awesome! But as all the others have said, attack the tv. We’re all sick of watching the -BOX logo at the end, when I tell my friends, you should buy this game for PS3 they say, I thought it was on -BOX? The only thing I’ve seen in this past year is the Heavenly Sword commercial, and thats because it was an exclusive. And the myspace idea is really good, even though Tom’s a macrohard zbot weeny.

  • I like it. But then anything has to be better than the abysmal marketing the PS3 has had to date.

    Has anyone seen the “This is living” marketing in Europe? Most people don’t even know the PS3 exists, let alone it’s capabilities, the advertising is so cryptic/arty.

  • Scott have you even read these posts and seen everyones reactions? Yeah we know games are slow but we aren’t getting repetitive crap like Shaylo 2 and 3 or Lalo Party 27. Not all owners are pissed, and if you are go to a toilet. Advertising doesn’t get the job done? Of course it doesn’t. Thats why everyone knows about the release of Warhawk, oh wait, not everybody knows?, maybe that’s because there weren’t any ads on TV!

  • Awesome, now put them on tv as well, because the Wii and and Xbox 360 are killing you in marketing.

    The current PS3 commercials on tv don’t make much sense. You’ve got to show people what Blu-Ray and the PS3 can do.

  • Wouldn’t tv ad be better? Most people block online banners and pop ups. But its nice to see Sony finally doing some advertising.

  • It’s pretty cool that you are finally marketing the PS3 as something else other than a video game console. Push that Blu-Ray functionality. I want that hi-def format war to stop asap.

  • Ouch, I guess I’m the negative nelly here. I’m sorry but I think this is really poor. I highly doubt this will have an positive impact on sales. If anything, it may deter some who want to see game content. The Heavenly Sword stuff you guys have been doing is pretty good but if you want to sell systems, see my GAP blog.

  • Incredible. The first campaign was pretty good — although I was not a fan of the baby doll — but this is so much better. Graphically insane and really showing that the console is capable of quality titles and Blu-Ray movies.

    For the past few months a lot of “what is the core message of the machine” talk has come up but I don’t think the PS3 should be encapsulated to just a “gaming machine” and continue to make its own path.

    Nintendo has it with casual gaming and Microsoft is basically just a game box, but the PS3 is truly a well rounded entertainment machine but future proof with HD.

    I may seem to be sucking up but I believe in my investment. Having said that, I’m still waiting for lots of very necessary upgrades (in-game texting, custom soundtracks, etc) as well as getting the other divisions of Sony to get on board and start offering downloadable movies and TV shows (I know music is coming with SingStar). With all the different Sony groups it should be nothing to out-offer anything XBLM is capable of.

    I love you Sony but you have your work cut out for you. At least with marketing pushes like this it will get the machine in more homes and get the word out that this system IS the best choice.

  • Scott, I’m not about to start it again with you so lets clarify and I assure you that after this I won’t continue so don’t expect me to.

    Your kinda funny considering the $650 in my bank account, yeah my mommy, of course. But lets say I was broke, and I was saving to get a game console, someone offers me a low price for the ZBOT I would say NO because im saving my $$ for that other game console that doesn’t just feed off of one game for 2 years. Trust me, my house is not a microsoft place. Computer- Apple. Game console- Sony and nintendo. One more thing, of course Resistance, Motorstorm, Heavenly Sword, GTHD, Warhawk and multiplat games don’t make it worth while for now. Right?

  • Holy CRAP! THATS the type of advertising the PS3 needs.

    Please get rid of the white room ads and go back to PS1 era advertisements. There wasn’t a magazine out there that didnt have a Playstation ad. now its only in gaming mags, barely at that.

  • That…is…AMAZING. THANK YOU. That right there dominates any other advertisement I have seen to date. Amazing… But now you’re going to have to stop letting the 360 get away with GTA IV exclusives and Call of Duty for limited edition to M$. Maybe we’ll just have to stoop to their level and actually pay for exclusivity and extra features for games.

  • Very, very slick advertising. I can wait to see how this expands into other forms of media. This is exactly the kind of presence Sony needs for the PS3.

  • I like that style of things trying to come out of the ps3 like nariko’s face and all of that. Should be used for TV commercials, I think that actually happened once in my room with a skater… from SKATE.
