Just a heads up to all of you: The PlayStation.Blog team is in Tokyo this week holding things down at TGS! What this means is our publishing frequency is going to be a little less than usual this week. We’re hoping to get some cool photos, maybe some video and other material from the show that we will in turn share here with you. Until then, hang tight and keep a lookout for something in the near future.

  • Gamesblow, I agree with you partially. Yes the PS2 is certainly getting in the way… but why must Sony not take advantage of it. Believe it or not, as immensely popular and old as it is, there are people out there buying PS2s for the very first time!! Sony should raise the price of that system thereby allowing them to lower the price of the PS3, since they’re losing so much per console. Oh yeah I’m aware that it’s no longer the $899 per console anymore but Sony is still losing “some” money on each PS3.

Sony should not and cannot (I think) pull the plug on their ultimate cash cow.

  • Couldnt have said it better myself

“How is anyone supposed to value the PS3 when the whole community swears by a title like HS when it turns out to be a rental. Or when Lair gets sunk in almost every review. Or when Warhawk has DRM and network issues that would make a preacher curse. Or that the system lacks the ability to have multiple users logged in at once. Or that R6V had no game lobby and fell just a tad too short when put up against its MS counterpart. Or that everything they/we are told is generally a lie, and everythign you have on your wish list gets pushed back 3, 6, 9 months. Or that some 1080i users have to resort to playing in 480p.

These are too many things that are piling up in the negative for Sony. If they would just take one thing from MS it should be that they impose and hold their dev’s to certain standards. They are to willing to say its up to the devs but the first thing they do with there 1st party titles is gouge you for DLC.” – Laughed

I dont even need to add on to all the negative made in the post. the PS3 and Sony are doing a effin horrible job right now, What do we get NO answer. I stayed positive waaay too long

  • It’s getting in the way more than some think… When PS3 owners pop in a game on their 1080I tv and see it only boots in 480P, they start to wonder why they upgraded from the ps2… I mean, these graphics look dated compared to what I’m seeing on the 360.

Simple comparison. People are uninformed and when they see a game like motorstorm running in 480P, they don’t assume it gets much better looking. They assume it’s a slight upgrade from ps2 and then tell everyone it’s not worth it. Sony needs to inform better. Fix their problems with upscale and more importantly, secure some worth while exclusives, content and release dates for us. Basically, if they hired Laughed, Lucifer and Myself for a online pr run… they couldn’t go wrong… Cause it seems like we’re the only one’s keyed in on Sony’s problems here.

  • IceCold, you’re right TGS was pretty lousy. I was hoping that Jack Tretton and Phil Harrison would come out and do their Home avatars one more time for amusement (sarcasm) just after Kaz made the announcement of the delay of Home. Well …. Home better be good. It’ll probably launch on the last Thursday of March ’08… who knows.

  • spiderman 3 was basically about the choices we make. obviously there are many bloggers only buy things so the can rant on in their lives of quiet desperation. i chose to buy a ps3 :1 it was sony and that means a sure bet just have to look back at psone and ps2 and two i did not buy it for a quick fix(i can do something else for that)but rather for the long haul just like when i bought sony televisions for their em my award winning trinitron. also i much prefer to be a whipping boy for sony than be whipped and lashed by ms. choose class the short run or the marathon?

  • @gamesblow

Ive been keyed in with the garbage they have been putting out. What they need are actual gamer in the office to tell them what we are lookign for cause obvisouly the developers are missing some key elements.

Warhawk is an online only game, and i cant even get my dang clann in one full game, much less get myself in one without gettin the full message.

Resistance was te closest to gettin it right, then R6V with the lobbies.

  • Yeah, the PS2 is keeping them afloat and is whats helping contribute to the PS3’s price cut.

Though, to clarify what i said which relates to what gb has said, once Sony strengthens its public image and stops playing PR games with the community, the market will respond.

I’d also add that another problem is that Sony can’t impose standards on Dev’s games simply because they need them to much at this point. Even if they could, there is the question to what standard should they be held to, when things like rumble and HOME are not even out yet.

The system is a mess, it lacks an identity and it comes across as incomplete. Its certainly going to continue to hold the system back until those things are ironed out.

  • @spyder-97

It though man, caue they hype Home up so much, Let only a handful of people that actually want to use the Beta to make the experience better. Then they have the audacity to go on multiple conference staing home will be out for the holiday season, then delay it. This is the story for many things PS3. We get left in the dang dark while great gaming is going on else where, all because of what? We are devoted Sony/PS fans and we have hope that they will deilver on what turns out to be false promises every time? Be serious man. I bought my Ps3 launch day for a reason know it will take time but damn how much time do you need jsut to gt ome key features that should have been there in the beginning?

  • Seriously though. If I had a 1080i only TV, I’d just go buy a 32″ Vizio or even a 42″ Vizio. I mean they’re cheap, good quality, (they’re not Samsungs…duh), can handle 720p and they cost… a lot … less… than those 1080i-only TVs did when they were introduced 5 or 6 years ago.
Come on, those old things don’t even have HDMI, or built-in tuners. It’s time for them to get a new set. TVs are not gasoline…

  • See, that my point about Sony hiring viral marketers to spin their product. Why the hell would an average consumer start an arguement by using a SONY licensed movie as an example. F’ing ridiculous.

Orbio: Your words are falling on deaf ears, if I needed an ad for Spiderman 3 would have gone to google, thanks. Oh and do me a favor. Don’t come back.

  • I used to brag all the time to my friends about my PS3, wait till Home, wait till MGS4, wait till FFXIII, wait wait wait. My friend was going to sell his 360 to get a Ps3 for Home and MGS4. He keeps askin me where are they with Home. Now i get to go back to work and tell him that Home isnt coming out until next spring. When in my mind i know its closer to next holiday season. We cant even get the effin DS3 this year.

  • the problem is promises… don’t break them. we all know sony has wonderfull products and how sony loves to brag about it… but for ONCE make it first then talk about it!.. don’t say NO more rumble and come with rumble.. don’t say HOME this holiday when we all know it’s NOT gonna happen. It’s almost as stupid as putting an GTA tattoo on your arm and…….

  • @IceCold
I bought my PS3 in December (I got lucky at EB Games that night).
It really is upsetting, considering how the E3 Sony conference revved the engine up only to just have things crash and wrap around an oak tree DUI style with TGS. I mean Phil and Jack just kept emphasizing the Home avatars and now it’s delayed. THAT IS BAD PR. All I can say is Uncharted better be a really good game this November along with Haze, and FW2.0 better knock my socks off.

  • no favours laughed…i as a playstation owner have a right to be on this blog .like gone with the wind…frankly laughed i don’t give a damn…..what you say but i respect your right to say it.

  • @310; bzzzzz …(you just got tasered)

  • I wouldn’t take that away from you, but if your here as a marketer first then I’ll remind you this is a blog for fans and no longer exclusive to viral marketers pushing spin control and drumming up sales.

  • funny your not such a laughed but the reverse a depressive ..why else would i be on a playstation blog…what part do you not understand…if i was a wi owner i would be on a wi blog.from another sony movie…this time taxi driver…are you talking to me…no more chips for you…i’ll not allow you to pull my trigger. game over laughed…now on to a real game…warhawk or maybe one of the other seven ps3 games in my library…and my l6 blue ray movies.

  • lol, You say I am a depressive but you can’t even have a conversation with out hashing out lines from a movie. Seems like you lost your grip on reality buddy. Keep trying to justify your existance with your 7 PS3 games and 16 movies, I’m sure after Sony exec’s build pools in there backyard they’ll call you over for a drink.

BTW: Taxi Driver is another Sony owned property, so I would like to make one last thing clear. This is a site for fans, spin your stories somewhere else. If we wanted ads we’d be using google.

  • great @3 i got what i wanted..rumble… but 2008 isn’t what i wanted to hear! it should be there when GT Prologue comes! also Afrika.. please tell us what it is.. Playstation Eye..when? (i don’t want eye of judgement) where.. and how much?

Pricing.. sort it out Sony before the EU commision is gonna fine you! you can’t expect the european to shelve 30% more for your products and get them late! In my book 169Euro for a PSP is 234.40300 U.S. dollars! What about the 65$ ? can i get a refund?

  • So let me see if I have the highlights of this years TGS so far:

    Home delayed until 08.
    PS3 rumble (which I don’t care about)
Remote Play enhancements (which I don’t care about)
    No further price drops.
    No big game announcements (yet).

Wow. What a lousy TGS show so far. I know there are still a couple of days to go so something good may still be announced, but I’m not optimistic.

And Sony expects to not be in last place in monthly sales this Xmas…..how?

  • Um there isn’t going to be much big news from TGS. Its just the Japanese version of E3. Just the like news @ E3 didn’t effect most of japan don’t expect much of the news to effect the US.

  • @318; E3 isn’t what it was no more (press only in a hotel).. TGS is an almost all Sony party.. your comparison is wrong… TGS looks like the GC.

  • Everyone has to admit, Microsoft must have a huge grin and never has expected SONY to fold so easily. On the bright side even though I have a 360 and PS3 im gona go for COD4 on the PS3 just to get some use out of it.

  • lolll
those 3 idiots (gamesblows, loucifer and laughed) are running the Sony blog with their negative comments… can you guys do us a favor and just STFU, you are pathetic and you are annoying everyone here

  • On a side note, has anyone noticed any new contect on PSN in the US or EU????

  • Daver get lost. No one wants to hear your cheerleading prattling lips smacking a$$ kissing bias.

I’ll shut it, when the problems are fixed. When will you shut it? When will you wake up? When will you stop being part of the problem and start being a part of the solution. Or is that contrary to your objective?

To Torm: I just got off the PSN nothing new but then again, its way to early for anything yet.

  • No TGS isn’t all Sony, and it isn’t like GC, it is like I said E3. E3 is for Americans, TGS is for the Japanese. But I’m not going to argue. If you watch some of the game previews it shows games that have already been released in America, but hint hint its for Japan so those games aren’t out yet.

  • I haven’t written here in a while so let’s do a run down of all of my thoughts:

    1. Folding@Home has always, always, always been a very unique and wonderful idea. It’s clear that Sony has a network of people who search for programs and games that are not only blockbusters but also represent the obscure. The PS3 has given attention to a wonderful cause like it never had before. I’m also thinking of Everyday Shooter, which I believe will blow up the spot, but would have been ignored without Sony.

—Meanwhile, I’m annoyed by these people here who, due to internet anonymity, don’t have the class to give respect to this topic as respect is due. Whether they be MS trolls or shrills, please ignore them, Sony. Folding@home is a very good and needed idea as I too have been touched by cancer in my life. The comments here made by the selfish low-life brats here reveal themselves for what they are.

    2. I’m very happy with Warhawk and Heavenly Sword. As for Heavenly Sword, it is perfection. Anybody who can beat the game in 8 hours must have done so without dying once (yeah right) and without going for all of the glyphs; the game begs repetitive play, is so worth it and rewarding, the details are astounding, and the acting is something worth watching over and over. It actually reminds me of Metal Gear Solid—also a short game, but without a doubt one of the best games ever in the minds of those who played it, and for similar reasons.

    3. The TGS news is for the most part very thrilling. Being able to use my PSP-2000 (yes, I bought it) to turn my PS3 on and off via remote play is just what I was looking for. The potential for PSP/PS3 interactivity is such that it can revolutionize portable gaming, and I can sense that.

-I don’t care any direction for the dual-shock, but I’ll certainly buy it when its available in America.

-PSP gaming is a dream right now, especially if you’re into Turn-based strategy and/or RPG games. I’m still looking for games of that genre for my PS3

-I AM, admittedly, bummed by not having HOME until Spring. I was really looking forward to HOME this Fall. I mean, really. As far as I’m concerned, that would have heralded in a new level of web 2.0 interaction. I’m quite bummed by this and now I really wish I was invited to the BETA…haha.

-Sales of the PS3 are between 5 and 6 million—exactly where they should be. Of course, it would have been nice to have Wii numbers, but the PS3 is certainly in the position they need to be to catch up to their competitors in ’08 and be ahead in ’09.

Sony! You keep pleasing me as you have since ’97. As a mature gamer who hates FPS games, Sony is still the only console for me. Keep it up, guys! The PS3 has as of recently finally become the ultimate gaming machine with the recent exclusives, PSN downloads, and of course the library of PS2 games at my disposal.—–12

P.S. Anyone share my views? Add me as a friend. My PSN is : TheTwelve

  • @The Twelve

I have a PSP too and allways loved the shining Force series on the sega 16 bit (Turn based strat). Are there any similar games for the PSP and which ones are the best?

  • @Laughed

Please explain these “problems” you keep reminding us about. You have been complaining about “problems” for the past 8 months. Please explain.

Also, if you hate Sony and the PS3 so much and you think it has soooo many problems, why don’t you sell it? It’s funny how both you and Loucifer constantly bash Sony and the PS3…yet you won’t sell your PS3. I wonder why?

  • I guess to Laughed, anybody who doesn’t constantly bash Sony and who might happen to be happy with their PS3, I guess all of those people are “cheerleaders”.

  • @Torment74

If you like Turn-Based strategy, you need, need, need to get Joan D’Arc. I’m loving it right now. I believe the best TBS game ever was Final Fantasy Tactics, and this game rivals it.

(This is the opinion of someone who also loved the Shining Force series of games…can’t tell you how many times I played those).—12

  • @The Twelve

Well like yourself im a gamer in his later years lol. I agree with alot of what you posted above but I think Sony need to get some real excitement going and give the PS3 a booster. Im defo getting HS and WarHawk so that will keep me quiet + all the 360 stuff. Joan D Arc has gotten great reviews and I love the art style. And if i remeber i will add your gamer tag to my friends list.

  • I seriously think it’s time to announce a price drop!

I know it doesn’t help us that already have ours, but it should help the install base!

  • Hey, definitely add me, Torment74. Word. We older gamers need to stick together!

I just read that Kaz expressed disappointment with PS3 sales. Well, alright. I still think that the PS3 is in a position to strike.–12

  • I think what I PERSONALLY, as well as others, are looking for NOW is:

-Confirmation of TouchSense in the DS3
-Confirmation that it is still ok to call the controller something else(I have always hated the dualshock name)
-I suggest “SixSense” if it has TS technology in it
-Info on new firmware features coming, such as in-game xmb, etc.(I know you’re tired of hearing about it)
-How early we will be getting DualShock3 controllers? Spring is technically anywhere between Feb and July depending on what calendar system you use.
-Can we just legally import DS3 from Japan until then?
-Any word on the software lineup for the remainder of the year?
-What’s with the new PS3 SKU you filed with the FCC? I know you don’t want to announce a new SKU to early and damage sales of current PS3 SKU’s, but I think it wouldn’t hurt to at least let us know that you will constantly be reworking the SKU’s and the system.

  • Hey if you guys could upload vid from the TGS like you did on the E3 would be nice, also bad move on the daley for home, no no games after assasincreed for this fall, please make some big update like stay online while in ps2 games cause is all we got to play for this fall.
If you got some more info on FFXIII would be nice

  • @TheTwelve

Kaz didn’t say he was “disappointed”, he said that Sony was not satisfied.

Just like if you wanted to make $20 million, but you only made $10 million. you feel that you did good, but you are not satisfied because you feel that you could have done better.

That’s basically it. Sony believes they could have done better…which they could have. but they haven’t done bad by any means.

  • TheTwelve and Torment74:
Great comments. I’m 28 and bought the ps3 because I felt it had the most bang for my buck and I still am convinced of that. However, it is a little frustrating to hear of delay after delay and less titles coming out than I would have expected.

Even so, I don’t need a new game every day and Warhawk has been keeping me away from far too many real life things already. :D…

What I really don’t understand is why home would be delayed when it seems like apart from a couple small bugs, things have ran well in the beta (no, I’m not in the beta – just based on youtube videos)… Whatever the reasons, the longer I wait, the more perfect and feature packed I’d expect it to be…

  • there’s a lot of bashing going on for some reason. i don’t know why. I still think FFVII remake for the PS3 is an essential if PS3 wants to have any sort of market share. I could easily see that being one of the best selling games for the PS3 worldwide. But that’s up to Sony and Squaresoft I guess..

I think Sony is shooting themselves in the foot at the moment. perhaps it’s more like frostbite and slowly losing feeling in the limbs. I just feel like they’ve been trudging in the snow for so long that they can’t feel their feet anymore. It’s like hey, wake up and start doing something. They can’t just stop they need to get going and they need to start churning things out. They’re trying to make everything perfect but in the mean time they’re losing in a war of attrition. That’s a pretty hard place to be.

But Sony still knows what it’s doing I think. Even if it’s losing it’s not going to ever lose completely. It may be a bit like Britain in WWii taking some hits, but I still think Sony is a better technology and a better system. It’s making marketing mistakes, PR mistakes, even developer mistakes, but it’s still Sony. It still stands for something. Like it was said of Sony back in the day when it was just selling Transistor Radios, “Sony was not first, but it was the most successful.” Sony’s a moving force. It’s moving at the speed of a glacier right now, but it’s still moving. It’s still going its own direction. As it should be.

That it’s maybe not keeping up as fast as microsoft is hurting it now, but I dunno.. Microsoft isn’t going to have much more innovation than it has now. Sony on the other hand is going to have more and more. So unfortunately, it’s still a waiting game for most. But then, I didn’t go out and buy a PS3 right away either. *whistle* so I’m not hurting at all. *shrug*

  • Remember when PS2 was launched?
Tekken Tag, SSX and something else.
These were the only games available for months, then all of a sudden BOOM, loads of games (hopefully the same will happen on PS3)
At the moment i use my PS3 for watching films and playing Oblivion (this game will do me till next winter) obviously a lot of people including myself are miffed about the lack of content at the moment, but instead of moaning we might as well bite the bullet cos we have to wait for Developers to finish writing games(i don’t want rushed out shite just to keep you moaning sods happy)I want quality and if that means lack of quantity the so be it.

  • Remember when the PS2 came out?
Tekken Tag, SSX and another game, these were all you could buy for ages.
Then all of a sudden there were shed loads of games to choose from (Hopefully this will be the same case for PS3).
I don’t want Developers rushing out products to shut you moaning people up, I want quality not quantity.
Until then i will keep myself content by continuing to play Oblivion and Resistance.
So bite the bullet, we all spent a lot of cash for our systems knowing that we would have to wait even longer for games to follow. They will come.

  • Talking about Home, the executive said as far as he was concerned, the release delay meant nothing had changed. He said, “We will still be opening in late November/Early December for general beta testing. So, the commercial start of Home will be pushed out later, but you will still get the experience this year.”

Quote form Phil Harrison. So when in Home launching?

  • *So when is Home launching?* oops!

  • I wonder what the devs can pull out of there arse after this one, what can they possibly say that will keep light at the end of what turned out to be a very very very very long tunnel?

  • First off all these pre-show “megaton” announcement rumors are just plants to make everyone feel disappointed no matter what is announced. So while everyone is expecting Touch Sense we get what appears to be plain old Rumble, which is what most people were complaining about not having, and now that we’re getting rumble (albeit way too far off in the future) now everyone says they don’t care about it. So once we get XMB in game functionality is everyone gonna be like, meh its not so great. Which in likelihood maybe it won’t be so great afterall. I’ll bet it won’t be universal, just for games that implement it, which is a mistake IMO.

The delay of Home is a huge huge PR blunder, given its emphasis at E3. Home would have attracted a huge interest in PS3 this holiday, its something new. Same thing as above, somehow just plain old game releases don’t seem to satisfy.

Personally i play my ps3 almost exclusively now, Warhawk and Heavenly Sword are great, unique experiences, and RFOM and Motorstorm continue to satisfy. I think the PS3 has a lot to offer right now, let alone what it has in store in the future.

There’s just too many of these events now that there’s worldwide coverage, its tough to come up with something new every month. Isn’t there a US event next month, traditionally Sony has a US event in October, no? Given today’s media environment I realize the challenges of managing this new ecosystem with blogs etc, but recognize that Sony needs to do a better job in this department. Its just bad project managament that Home is delayed, and even worse PR. Maybe Insomniac needs to impart its practices to Sony’s internal dev teams.

  • Hour long game play with Metal Gear Solid 4, Gameinformer and IGN both have great coverage on this right now, with rumble.
