As Kotaku, Joystiq and others are pointing out, we’ve released a minor firmware update (version 1.92) for the PS3. This update focuses on some PS3 compatibility and playability issues for select titles. A search site for looking up compatible titles is also in the works, as soon as it’s live, I’ll publish a link to it here.

Wow you guys really suck at running a game company. First you promise many games months before they come out. That’s what persuaded me to buy a PS3 early. Then you let companies like Best Buy and Futureshop in Canada push up the pricing (when I bought one) up to $700 only to have the price get reset by Sony again a month or two after. So then I sign up for the playstation underground with promises of many demos and great things and got nothing… but a card saying I’ve signed up for Playstation Underground. Now to have a game(Warhawk) I’ve paid $70 for not work at all because you can’t beta test a patch? If there was a single player part of the game that would be one thing but this is a multiplayer only game (great thinking…) Here’s a few thoughts that probably would have made this one fiasco not so bad. 1) How about you let more than 3 people into the Beta test program (obviously this wasn’t tested) 2) Admit there is a problem and post it in the game when people are trying to connect 3) Fix the problem 4) Get your sh*t toghether… If any issues come up – I’m gonna chuck this piece of crap and buy a 360. Honestly for the $1000 I’ve already had to put out on this POC I’d have expected much better.
OK, now im mad. I HAVE to download this new update and I do, and NOW im getting the stupid sign-in error message. WTF!!!!!

So basically you’re gonna “chuck” your PS3 for a 360 because of bugs? What are you going to do when you see the red lights? “Chuck” it too and get a Wii? Give me a break man. The game WAS beta-tested (it seems you were on Mars for the past months) and they fixed most problems. But this one slipped and now they are fixing it.
So, yes, after updating to 1.92, I can log into Warhawk anymore…
I currently get a Network Error: Network Timeout.
My Internet connection checks out OK and I can access the PlayStation Store without problem.
No need to say it blows really hard.

Ive just found out that the 1.92 firmware is only designed to improve certain US and Japaneese games and doesnt do anything for a ps3 in Europe, so what the hells the point of releaseing it in Europe because all it has seem to have done is prevented me from loggin into WarHawk.

I had this Problem before 1.92 came out and it froze like 2 or 3 times before then.. and after the update installed it had froze like 2 to 3 times after words..
I know it has nothing to do with the machince being HOT because it wasnt on very long when both of these have accured..

Ever since I downloaded update 1.92, I cannot get into Warhawk server. I am sooooo pissed! Sony and Incognito do something quick to resolve this issue!!! >:(
For those that actually play LAIR…like myself,
have you had any problems in the NETWORK section of the game since firmware 1.92
EVERY time I click on “Messages” the whole system freezes, and I forced to manually reboot.
It worked fine prior to the firmware update.
Anyone else experiencing this?
sorry everyone but Sony just gave you an update…now you have to wait another 30-45 days to get a new fix…so deal with it…LOLOL

I was worried that Sony was creating fake user names and putting up positive comments in the forums to make themselves look better.

Well, I haven’t seen an official features list, but the one mentioned that I keep seeing, is that the controller turns itself off after a certain length of inactivity. So, I walked away from mine last night. This morning, it’s flashing away, low battery. SO that feature, if true, didn’t work. Anyone else ahve any input here?

PBJ, same here. My update was fine. I did have problems reconnecting to the Internet but all I had to do was clear my browser cache and it worked again.

I have been reading some of the blogs about the PS3 update and WARHAWK and I noticed people are complaining a lot. They say we want this, this, and that or we want this, this, and that fixed. You guys and girls that are complaining, are the ones that ask for something and then when you get it you are not satisfied, and then complain that you got what you asked for but it not to your satisfaction. You guy need to stop complaining and demanding you got to remember that all this extra work that SONY is giving us to maximize our experience, we are not being charged for. Its free so take it as it comes, they are aware of the bugs and some of the feature we want (like rumble controllers) they are hard at work to fix them but it cant happen over night. Think of it this way, you have a school project that is due at the end of the semester you have to bring it in for you teacher to see it every few weeks so she can see the progress. The teacher gives you comments like I would like to see this, this, and that on here go back and add it in. You have been hard at work on it for the past few months and fixed all the bugs. when you get done with it you think it Is an A++ project. You turn it in, you get an A, not that A++ because there are still bugs. Everything is not perfect its never going to be perfect because people have different needs. Remember it free stop demanding and getting mad at SONY the PS3 is going on a year in a few months and PERFECTION TAKES TIME.

I did notice the Warhawk servers are harder to get into. i had a Network Time Out error show up and the only way i have been able to repair it is to re-do my netwprk settings and then power down the PS3 with the hard key on the back. I also have not yet logged out of Warhawk as the title freezes on me and i need to manually shut down the ps3.

but what about being 3/4 through Oblivion and I can no longer play it for some reason after the last patch. Issues with deleting the cache after this update, I believe issues with patches should be discussed here, not off-topic rants and definitely no comments about the X box or like how I sold my ps3 and bought a Wii, four games, HD cables and an extra controller with enough to put a deposit on Halo 3 and put a 360 Elite on layaway. Sorry but PS3 is a work in progress, and I have been very dissappointed in how Sony has been handling their product and associated software. I bought a PSone day one and PS2 day one and the PS3 I had doubts about and even waited 1 month to buy. I will need to see both Sony-Playstation end of quarter results, and actual software progress and release before I buy another. Maybe by Feb 08 the games that we all expected, in the awe inspiring graphics will be out and hopefully not too late to catch up with their competitors.
Can we finally get the ability to play back AVI, WMV, etc.. files?
I can’t find any good file formats that it will play for videos.
I know I had problems with my bluetooth headset right after the update. Had to reconfigure my router and my network connection and then had to go and readjust the settings to the headset! It would be nice to know this before I install the update!

That is why i paid my money for this box – it’s meant to be pucker full stop. I shouldn’t be asking for too much, as for the updates and poor SONY running around for free – get a grip!: They HAVE to do this stuff otherwise this kind of slagging of the PS3 on this forum will filter out to mine and your mates and hey presto – crap sales for SONY.
All i want is an exclusive title that will shut the 360 nutters up for good, ideally before xmas. SONY have had 3+years to figure this out and look where we are. I love my PS3 but the media centre novelty is wearing off big time.

I completely think Sony has to think about adding that functionality. heck, like people said earlier, I think a lot of us would be willing to pay a bit extra to be able to play more file formats.
Actually I change the statement that I posted on #210 I finally got into Warhawk today and played until battery of bluetooth headset died :) I am sooooo happy and keep up the good work.

after seeing the flak that LAIR took decided to rent the game instead of going out and purchasing it immediately as I had previously planned to do. I am glad I did. It’s not so much that the motion controls are bad (which they are good when they actually register), but the frame rate I don’t think ever stops degrading. It’s one of the worst frame rates I’ve ever seen. Sony, you should have delayed the game again for the love of dragons. I have never seen a game that looks so incredible and exciting and yet it is just about unplayable because of the frame rate and extremely spotty motion controls. I am not against motion controls, if they work I would probably be more for it than not, but if they are going to be this shoddy then why not give us an option? If you guys fix the game’s frame rate and controls, you would have a winner and I will purchase the game immediately, but as it stands I took it back to the video store before it was due back.

My wish for FW 2.0: Add a simple 48p frame doubling mode for 24p blu-ray content. This would make a lot of owners of older HDTV display (including the X2000/XBR2/XBR3 Bravia line!!!) very happy (removes 3:2 judder). This should take not more than a day for a skilled FW developer…
Even nicer would be frame interpolation from 24p to 48p or 72p like many new LCD TVs do. The Cell should be able to do that – but that would be a major development effort.
Yeah, besides new formats for vids to play on the PS3, a more robust Folder Management would be nice. I’d love to be able to sort my vids into folders such as Movie Trailers or PSN Games or even game specific folders. Same for the Picture section instead of just having them sorted by dates.

Think that is possible to copy a original PS2 or PS1 game directly to the hard drive and play on it without the use of the DVD, as anti-piracy you could only play it with your on DVD inside the PS3.
Think that its possible for a next update or something?
I would like to see game reviews from Sony that we can download from the PSN store and watch on the PS3. And new commercials Sony! You rock!

I don’t think that is possible because those games were made a long time ago and were made with anti-piracy and not being able to be copied in mind. They would either have to release a PS Store update with the games or re-release the older games to be able to be downloaded to the PS3.

And to people who think the PS3 is expensive. Just stay with me for a second. The Xbox you have to pay money as long as you are using Xbox Live. I don’t know how expensive that is but I’m going on $50 a year. After 2 years that’s already $100. Not to mention the PS3 comes with a Blu-ray player built in.
Xbox 360; pay $180 more dollars for HD-DVD, which by the way is losing to Blu-ray. SO say you got the $400 Xbox 360 (which comes with 20 massive gigs) and the $180 HD-DVD player, your up to $580 dollars, not to mention Xbox Live. NOW IF ANY XBOX 360 FANBOY EVER ARGUES THAT THE PS3 IS TOO EXPENSIVE I WILL SLIT THERE THROAT!!! Also give Sony time to get/work out the updates and my 1.92 works fine. Also I enjoy the Xbox 360 too so I’m no Sony Fanboy either.

I just wanted to add to what aggiechase37 said about Lair. You know, before Sony released the game. They was giving us sound tracks and giving us information about the game. And, now the game is out, its like they haven’t even had anymore post about it. Its obvious they knew this game sucked, thats why they post poned the release date. With that said, its just said that this game sucks. I said it earlier when the game was blogged that it was being released at a later date than announced: I would that they take another year to learn the technology and perfected the game than to just release a crappy game. This kindof makes me mad. I am highly dissappointed that this game sucks. Everyone is looking for the demo for Lair, but its not coming because Sony knows the game sucks. And, thats not good.
Advice for Sony: None of the games you published should have frame rate problems or graphical glitches and poor game play. Its one thing that 3rd parties can’t get it right with the games they release on the PS3, but if you have problems with games you guys develope with your own system, how do you expect 3rd parties to get it right when they release games for the PS3.

You guys should focus on developpement issues.
It is one thing to have an extremly powerful CPU, but devs should be able to use it properly. I rarely saw a PSOne or PS2 game lag.
Weird that, the Cell processing power is greatest strengh of the PS3 and may also be it’s greatest weakness.
In the end i’m not sure we’ll see big graphic differences between the PS3 and the X360 because both have the same genration of GPU (even though X360’s GPU shares some commun points with the ATI R600).
I have a little idea and i think it could work.
On a certain instant messenger there’s a little “now playing” thing that shows other instant messenger users what music each person is listening to and i thought this could work on the PS3!!
Under the name, where it usually says what game they’re playing…when the user it listening to some music it says what it is.
i know it’s hardly groundbreaking but i think it’d be nice to see what everyone is listening to and it could make people talk to each other more, start off conversations on music, bands etc.
the people that have heard my idea seem to like it and i wondered if we could get this?

Maybe within the “Now playing” function you could see what Blu-ray people are watching, if they wish to see that information and if people want to share that info, also the same thing with trailers downloaded from the playstation store etc.
