Firmware Update (v1.92)

270 1

As Kotaku, Joystiq and others are pointing out, we’ve released a minor firmware update (version 1.92) for the PS3. This update focuses on some PS3 compatibility and playability issues for select titles. A search site for looking up compatible titles is also in the works, as soon as it’s live, I’ll publish a link to it here.

Update: The compatibility search site is now live.

  • By the way, the PS3’s expensive for a reason unlike the green competition. XP
Furthermore, PS3 is in dire need of exclusives. or atleast versions of games so specifically made for the PS3 that couldn’t be done on other systems as good. Considering the massive memory of the Blue Ray Disks and the raw power of the PS3 in comparison to the seemingly out-dated DVD and inferior technology available out there. I know such games are being made, I just hope that most are done this way from now on so that both the consumer and the…….seller to…the…consumer……people…..*cough* can both reap in the big benefits. It’ll be tons more work but I’m more than sure it’ll be worth it! XD Oh, and I’d LOVE to see a next gen Castlevania game(though the story never seems to change lmao).

  • while playing warhawk online got freezed and then was unable to join servers so after downloaded the above thingy I did run a network diagnostic or however is called and no problems since then, please sony more servers, other than that,It’s a pleasure to play and enjoy the console being able too “act” as second computer at home.

  • Hey everyone, I would still like to have the shuffle feature back in photos. I also have a big music collection (MP3) and scrolling through it is difficult, cause the icons and names disappear when you start scrolling down.

  • I’m not sure if this has been brought up before, but one thing I’d like to ask about is the upscaling features of the PS3. One of the problems of playing older consoles (such as PS2) on HDTV is that the TV would have to upscale the video. This could cause a lag of 6-15+ frames, as the TV would upscale for picture quality rather than speed, thus causing problems for people who play ultra time sensitive games such as rhythm games, fighting games, etc. where every frame of lag further ruins the playing experience.

The thing is, a lot of the people who are really into these older games, and who want to play them on HDTV, are saying that the PS3’s upscaling routine suffers from similar drawbacks. As SDTV is being slowly phased out, it would be nice if we could bring our older games with us and play them as they were meant to be played, except on HDTV. For me, this is definitely one of the two biggest reasons I haven’t adopted HDTV yet.

So, my question is, does the PS3’s upscaling cause a certain amount of lag, as I’ve been led to believe? If so, is there any possibility that the routine will be updated in a future firmware update to give us an option to upscale 480i/480p to 1080p with speed in mind rather than picture quality (as the emphasis, of course; obviously it wouldn’t matter how fast it was if the end result looked horrible, as that would be trading off one negative for another rather than creating a positive)? A lag of 0 frames would be ideal, if at all possible.

  • Update worked flawless on my PS3..

Just to add another positive post in here where the [DELETED] as usual floats from people that just can´t comprehend posting in normal tone.

  • CHANGELOG PLEASE!

  • I’ve had no problems with the 1.92 FW, except that it rebooted the PS3 seemingly half way through installation. Everything works fine though, and in system settings it does state it’s running 1.92. I just wish there was something to make it worth the hassle?

    On a side note;

Any news on fixing the Warhawk server joining problem??

  • Well, I hadn’t noticed the problems with 1.92 regarding the Playstation(R) Network until recently, since I’ve been doing a long bout of single-player gaming.

When I went to play Warhawk, my PSN woes began, as I was consistently being kicked out with the horrid 8002AA08 error.

Don’t you just love how descriptive these errors are? As a computer scientist myself I am gravely disappointed with the Sony people; they could’ve at least given us human understandable errors. Instead they took a page from Microsoft’s book. Aren’t they supposed to be bitter rivals with Microsoft and its Xbox 360?

As for me, after hours of frustration I called the Sony support number, where the representative helpfully told me everything I had already gleaned from half an hour Googling the problem; basically, that this is a rather common issue right now, did I try restarting my PS3, etc.

Well, restarting helped marginally. My Playstation 3 connected to the Playstation(R) Network alright, but then, just as I pop in my Warhawk DVD, BAM! It disconnects. It was like it was WAITING for me to do that before logging off, just to taunt me.

Then, as per the Googled suggestions, I then purged the cookies and the cache. Still no joy. After another hour of tweaking, it was starting to get late and I decided to leave it be. As I logged off on my computer I decided to give it one more try. Guess what? It worked.

As I understood it, my particular variation of the problem MIGHT have been that both my PC and my PS3 are working off the same wireless network (from my Linksys Wireless-G 2.4 GHz Broadband Router). As I understood it, the Router tried to equalized the bandwidth between my PC and my PS3 and failed; apparently my PC got higher priority (probably because it’s directly connected to the Router).

Mind you, I don’t KNOW if this is the reason for my particular instance of the dreaded 8002AA08 error. All I CAN say is that when I turn off my PC, my PS3 connects to the PSN just fine. I didn’t do a detailed survey, so I can’t say for sure, but any weapon we PS3 owners can get our hands on to battle the evil, diabolical, take-over-the-PS3-world 8002AA08 error is useful.

So check your router! If your PS3 connects to the internet via wireless router it is possible that it MAY be conflicting with other wireless devices on the same network. Especially if the PS3 doesn’t have priority, it might not have the bandwidth necessary to connect to PSN.

If you have a land line connection, then I don’t know what to tell you. I personally haven’t ever connected my PS3 to a land-line so I don’t know what the effect might be. However, it may still be the same problem as mine; although land line connections usually aren’t as affected by multiple products using it as a wireless network would be.

Try disconnecting your PC from the internet, or even shutting it off, and see if that doesn’t solve your problems. Oh yes, and, it might be annoying, but also try restarting your internet connection/router (either via restart button if you’re lucky enough to have a modem/router that has a restart button, or else by unplugging and replugging the modem and/or router).

  • When will the stats be updated???Since the 09/02/2007 the stats are the same, and i’m not alone…Do not reset the stats!!! >-(

  • SONY, I want you to NEVER support ingame XMB. I want you to do that just to annoy all the retards that are seemingly all tapped into the same monobrain, chanting “ingame XMB” in unison as the occasional drool slides down the mouth on their expressionless faces.

Seriously, why would you want that? You do realise that the PS3 is not a PC, and so just because you can bring up the XMB does not mean you can start doing all kinds of sheit while playing a game.

I wanna play a game. Fire up the PS3 browser, if can your retard stricken intellect can muster it that is. Then push the PS button, hey presto, there is the XMB with the browser in the background, just like you want to have ingame. Now try to do anything, anything at all in the XMB. You will notice that about 99% of the functionality is disabled because a F*&#¤% browser is running in the background geniuses!

The PS3 cannot magically fart up extra resources to suddenly do 2 things that each require most of the Cell and RSX to run at the same time. That is just not how the PS3 was designed, ok, and for good reason.

STFU, all you god damned retards. And if anyone mentions, if I even catch a hint of glimmer in their eye for running MP3’s in the background while playing a game I swear to all holy gods I am going to shank them a new a-hole and stomp their faces in “American History X” style, fools!

  • the transition to 1.92 went smoothly for me. Thanks, Sony.

I’m very very looking forward to 2.00 :D

  • I don’t know if this has already been requested, cos I can’t be arsed to read every entry here, however, it would be nice if the firmware update downloads were able to be downloaded in the background. Fine, it can say, no online anything till you’ve upgraded your firmware, but while it’s taking it’s merry time to download, why couldn’t I have a nice blast on something, listen to some tunes, whatever? Anyway, seems like an easy request.

Might I suggest that firmware upgrades could be handled like, dare I say it, windows updates. Downloaded without being requested, and the user notified when it’s ready for installation. Mmmm! Perhaps that’s a little too much.

For the next upgrade, I’d like a better music visualisation please. I’ll leave the in game XMB to the game developers to impliment if people want that. It’s a nice to have, but not too important for me. I’d like better file management facilities please. I want to create folders for movies, folders for TV shows, folders for whatever I like.

Anyway, thanks for listening to us whingers!

  • Hi there, I don’t know about all of you guys but to me I have a really interesting bad issue looks like this new firmware didn’t solved any of the previous issues relating the freezes during game play on the Warhawk but now I just FOUND ANOTHER PROBLEMATIC ISSUE IN THIS UPDATE, NOW Iam UNABLE to play RUB a DUCK because since I downloaded Warhawk Its impossible even to get into the stage selection on Rub a Duck and no Iam unable to connect even to Warhawk online servers, ITS JUST GREAT ALL THIS WE PAY SO MUCH MONEY FOR THE DOWNLOADS AND NOW WE GOT ALL THIS TROUBLES WITH THE PRODUCTS ITS JUST AMAZING ALL THIS TO ME!
Sony could you please see what its all wrong on this is it because of the DRM or is just some incompatible issues with some PSN Store downloads????
My all family likes to play Rub a Duck but now sadly we are unable to play it so all the fun around our PS3 is just going down!
Hope you could reply to this matter as I didn’t want to turn my back to Sony and go to M*******, I am loyal to sony….
Hope ear soon from you guys…!

  • what was the point of us EU ps3 owners updating to 1.92 if the playability issues (as stated on the official playstation website) clearly state that they don’t affect Europe, Africa, Oceania…?

plz Sony, let us know what we are downloading beforehand, then we can stop speculating and we can decide for ourselves if each firmware is what we need or not.

especially when so many people have had so many issues regarding browser and PSN store problems.

  • Yes ever since the update I can’t log into my PSN. ALso it seems myt internet connection settings for my wired connection has been reset. So I think I just have to fix that and then everything will be all right.

  • OK GUYS I’ve FOUND THE PROBLEM WITH THE UPDATE. WHEN YOU UPDATE THIS NEW FIRMWARE PROGRAM IT JUST RESETS ALL OF YOU INTERNET CONNECTION SETTINGS WHETHER IT BE WIRED (like me) OR WIRELESS LIKE OTHERS. ANYWAYS ALL YOU NEED TO DO IS SET IT BACK UP TO YOUR SETTINGS BEFORE THE UPDATE. I’m DOING THAT RIGHT NOW. I’m JUST GETTING MY IP ADDRESS AND MY SUBNET MASK AND MY DNS # THEN I’ll BE DONE. HOPE THIS HELPS AND SORRY FOR THE CAPS.

  • Happy for the update every little counts everything works good so far not been really testing everything but seems good look forward to the next UPDATE in 4 weeks ;)

  • A simple feature you could add that would make my day, is an actual way to sort your games and videos.

I know you have had two options all along, alphabetical and the order they were downloaded in.
And I know you added the ability to sort by add date… or something similar, but still just as random as before in a different way.

but would it not be possible to select one of my games/demos, press triangle, and see the option to bump the selection up or down… so we can actually sort each file in the order we choose (rather than just talking about it in previous firmware changelogs)

Its bad enough we cant have folders to sort demos from PS1 from PSN titles…
but say I just want to keep WarHawk at the top of the list, yet still download new demos?
It just isnt possible to keep any sort of order…

  • how about more video format support. I am sick of trying to watch internet videos on my PS3 and have to go back to my PC to watch them, because this $700 paper weight doesnt support what I want to watch. fix this now.

  • Thanks for the updates! Sorry to post this here, but I can find no other place to provide feedback. Several home theater enthusiasts such as my self have a small issue with the PS3 we hope you can correct with a firmware update. When you have your PS3 connected to a reciever via HDMI, the PS3 will output CDs and MP3 audio in a 7.1 format. This locks most recievers into a surround format and prevents the reciever from providing processing such as Dolby PL2. It would be fantastic if you provided an option to force the PS3 to output 2 channel audio when play CDs or MP3s over a HDMI connection. Hope this feedback reaches someone who can make this happen. Thanks!

Hey.. its the official Sony blog here, if you dont like what Sony do, just leave..You guys are only complaining. If you are not happy with it, just go play with your xbox.. who cares anyway…

  • I say before the 2.00 update that Sony release a 1.99 update…what will the update do? Have the PS3 tell us in a nice female voice to stop freaking out over a dang firmware update ;-)

Got my 1.92 update with no issues. Internet works fine and can access my PSN account. Thanks for the update Sony!

  • Great patch!

I didn’t buy the PS2 but I bought the PS3… as a multimedia center. I enjoy playing from time to time. Now I can buy some old classics from carboot sales for almost nothing. MSG, FF series etc. Perfect! Keep the backward compatibility comming!!!
    Don’t worry Sony, I’ll buy a few new PS3 games too. :)

    I don’t care about in-game XMB, I need DivX and AC3

  • well u guys did a great job over the years with updates and the psp ,so i no yall will get it 2gether soon.just get games 360 does not have.

  • Does anyone know how to really fix the v. 1.92 patch problem? I really want to get some problems like this one over with…

  • Thanks for posting the information. I have two wishes related to new firmware.

    1) Tell us a few days in advance and INCLUDE what will be updated. This was done a few times before, this one was a stealth update.

    2) STOP MAKING THE UPDATES MANDATORY. I’m not interested in this update. It’s for Lair and warhawk issues. Two games I’m not buying (ever).

I wait a few weeks for the bugs to be know, your firmwares are not bug proof. Users are having issues with web browser and PS Store access along with PS Network connection issues. I’m not updating until this is resolved. So now I can’t access PS Network and play games with my friends. STOP IT, please.

  • Can you release a firmware update to allow me to play Japanese PS1 and PS2 games on my PS3? One of the biggest reasons mod chips exist in the first place is to allow region free gaming. It wasn’t until recently (last 5-7 yrs) that they were designed for more questionably legal purposes, and one could argue that if systems were region free there may have been less inclination to hack systems.

  • @twindad; ok sony/kaz will call you if you need an update…. -sigh- we know bill gates consults you first…

  • @ post163, bout time someone said it,it gets on my [DELETED] as well.
I just want a machine that works well and is bug free, browsing the net is quicker on a pc than PS3.
All i really would like is the option to install the updates when i want to, and also a delete function on the Friends Met area.

  • Warhawk just crashed. It says network time out. Both in England and the U.S. None of my friends can get online. This update sucks. Madden 08 kicks me out 3 minutes into every game. SONY + XBOX 360=Wii

  • @ loucifer
I’m comin around to your way of thinking. LAIR was a bit of a disappointment, not for controls which were fine but how the story is told. It feels like a time attack mode you unlock after the main game. Anyway I’m starving for content on my PS3. Warhawk is awesome but no campaign. I just got done playing Bioshock on the 360 for two straight weeks. PS3 games are awesome but all feel incomplete. I can’t wait to get KILLZONE 2 and MGS4. I don’t think PS3 titles will be real competition for another year.

  • @alphabase

I would really like to know why I cannot access the internet or the PSN store since I updated.

Same thing happened to me. I powered down and restarted, but still couldn’t access the internet or playstation network.

I corrected the problem by deleting my networks settings and re-adding them.

This update has nothing to do with warhawk crashing or the network timeouts your getting. Those problems need to be addressed by the warhawk people.

  • I’d read a rumour that FLASH wallpapers were now supported but obviously this was a lie.

Anyways, i’d love this feature to be implemented into a newer firmware update so we could make animated wallpapers for our ps3’s (like the animated ribons we have at the momment).

if viruses etc are a problem, maybe make a converter to run on pc’s or whatever OS that would convert the FLASH file into one of your own kinds and maybe it could also check the file in the proccess to see if it could harm the ps3 and then authenticate it to be safe to run and if a file was not safe it would not allow it to be run on a ps3.

    what do you guys think?

  • I guess I am not as lucky as I first thought I was. At first, I had no problems with the system. However, after the update, I can’t seem to be able to log on WarHawk. Someone mentioned that the game itself had nothing to do with it, but all I know is that I never had any issues with logging on to the network or the Playstation Store and now I do. I do hope this issue is addressed in the near future SONY!! it seems that I am not alone on this one. I appreciate the effort but please get on this one quickly.

  • no problems with the update logging into the store or onto Motorstorm. BTW, big update download in the MS announcement area in preparation for expansion packs which, to quote ‘should hit the stores in the next few days’!!

  • Hey guys I had that problem to this morning with my internet connections reset and not being able to go onto the PSN but I think you just have to reset your internet connection or your internet router or modem and then it should work. Thats all I did and my information was back up. I don’t know if Sony had anything to do with this but the problem is all better now for me.

  • I’m a little worried. I am not sure what this firmware update does, but if it does what I think (basically a patch so certain PS3 games play right), I get a little worried.

This seems a little outside the realm of firmware updates and more along the lines of a patch for each game. I’ve never seen the PS3 alert me of an update for a game when I start it up, and I am starting to doubt if it’s even possible for games to be updated, except for maybe the online ones.

I’m just very curious if the Playstation 3 can do patching like the Xbox 360, where any game can receive an update.

If it can, then from what I hear, Lair needs one. A patch enabling Oblivion DLC (and PSN downloadables) would be great too! :)

  • Everyone: To temporarily resolve this issue, you will want to disable the UPNP functionality of your Router. This will allow you to access the PSN.

Sony will hopefully resolve this soon or they will be inundated with calls and emails from users. Most average gamers are not capable of casually resolving this.

  • @Kaoro

    Hello McFly!?

Game patches to fix bugs and/or implement new ones come from the game manufacturer.

The problems you and everyone else are experiencing with warhawk, existed both prior to this latest firmware upgrade and still exist subsequent to the upgrade. All the issues we’re all having with warhawk need to be addressed by the warhawk people….unless the problem is poor response time from your isp or that you bought cheap network equipment. You’ll have to deal with those yourself.

  • Rev 1.92 went smooth but I second KiLLaK thoughts on the DL Warhawk DRM issue. Still chapped that my son is HAVING to use my account and his Warhawk friends are now my friends. Got me once, never again. Along the same lines as Twinsdad I would like the option to delay an update by a time period I specify, just to have the time to cruise the boards for problems.

  • i got the update, ever since, the network keeps signing me out and when i turn off my ps3, it took more then 30min. to try and turn off(flashing green:turning off) and i had to turn the power off from the back. PLZ HELP!

  • PLZ MAKE 1.93 SOON! at least make it an improvment of V1.92.

  • hmm, at least one PS3 game that runs at 60 frames per second in 1080p? Ok…. Ninja Gaiden Sigma.

  • Has this update caused the Warhawk “room full” error, or is the problem with Incog’s servers? I can’t get a straight answer out of anyone.
